What Does Bingo Center Do in Cookie Clicker? Upgrades Guide

Justine

Cookie Clicker has a ton of sweet and chaotic fun awaiting its players, from freshly baked cookies to terrifying havoc and mayhem. The Grandmapocalypse is one of the most interesting events that can happen in the game, but it requires the Bingo Center and upgrades – many players wonder what else the Bingo Center does in the game as a result.

The Bingo Center in Cookie Clicker acts as a Research Facility, enabling players to access upgrades as well as efficiency benefits for grandmas. Players will need to unlock 7 grandma types, and the base cost will amount to around 1 quadrillion cookies.

While unlocking the Bingo Center in Cookie Clicker will be worthwhile for most players, it is not an easy process. Stick around to find out everything you need to know about the Bingo Center in Cookie Clicker , how to unlock it, as well as the unique events and benefits that it leads to in the game.

What Does The Bingo Center Do In Cookie Clicker?

Having the Bingo Center, also known as the Research Facility in Cookie Clicker, will unlock a new upgrade after 30 minutes. Although, research will only start once the last item researched is purchased. The primary benefits of the Bingo Center in Cookie Clicker are as follows:

  • 5 multiplier upgrades
  • 1 upgrade to double grandma efficiency
  • 3 upgrades to greatly increase grandma output

Is The Bingo Center Worth It In Cookie Clicker?

The Bingo Center is currently the only upgrade to make a building four times as efficient, as of update 1.036. Although its price of around 1 quadrillion cookies is definitely a milestone that will take time to reach, the Bingo Center is worth the cost. According to the Cookie Clicker Wiki :

“In theory, fully upgraded grandmas are the most efficient building a player can buy because they have a CpS based on the number of grandmas purchased. That is grandma’s CpS rate increases quadratically where other CpS rates increase linearly. “

Cookie Clicker upgrades are quite expansive, as there are currently 663 normal upgrades and 13 debug upgrades in the entire game.

upgrades

With that being said, the crossover point where grandmas outperform the best buildings will require the purchasing of so many grandmas. Increasing grandma level will ultimately increase the grandma CpS by 1% per level as you progress. Securing a higher number of grandmas and grandma levels will enable more stockbrokers to be hired in the Stock Market mini-game, which can help you lower the overhead cost.

How To Unlock The Bingo Center In Cookie Clicker

Players can unlock the Bingo Center in Cookie Clicker once they have the Elder Achievement. There is a fairly wide range of grandmas in Cookie Clicker, but players will need to unlock 7 specific grandma types to unlock the Bingo Center, namely the farmer, worker, miner, cosmic, transmuted, altered, and grandmas’ grandma.

How Do You Get 7 Grandma Types?

Grandmas are the main antagonists in Cookie Clicker, both in the Classic version as well as within the 1.0 Update. She costs 100 cookies and will produce 1 CpS by baking them for the player – she is also one of the two buildings shown at the very beginning of the game.

Should I Start The Grandmapocalypse?

Players can enjoy the horrific Grandmapocalypse after a certain point in Cookie Clicker, a mini-game that changes many key elements of the classic game in a variety of ways. The background completely changes the feel, topped with Golden Cookies being replaced with Wrath Cookies and Wrinklers (which look like tiny worms) latching onto the player’s main cookie.

As a result, this event is not something players should rush into early on in the game – in fact, players even get a warning before triggering it. It’s more recommended for players that have neared of reached the endgame, as it’s better to have a lot of grandmas as well as a high CpS before starting the event.

warning

The Grandmapocalypse in Cookie Clicker can be triggered by players purchasing the One Mind upgrade from the Research Facility. It will be indicated by shaking, flashing, and a tiled background of grandmas.

Should I End The Grandmapocalypse?

Although the Grandmapocalypse can seem incredibly daunting at first and players often wonder if the entire experience is worth it, the event can bring in some amazing CpS, research upgrade unlocks, as well as the chance to get a variety of achievements. In addition, the Wrath Cookies provided by the Grandmapocalypse provide the chance of getting numerous status effects that can alter the player’s CpS for the effect’s duration.

56 Best Cross-Platform Games (Free & Paid) in 2024

However, some players may feel like they want to end the event – either because they’ve had enough of it or have gotten the most out of its benefits for the time. But, either way, players will need to get through the complete event to get the ability to end it.

grandmapocalypse

The event will progress in stages, starting with Awoken, then Displeased, and finally Angered/ Appeased. Getting through the final stage will add Elder Pledge and Elder Covenant to the game, and players will need to use them to put a stop to the Grandmapocalypse.

grandma

Players can choose to end the Grandmapocalypse either temporarily or permanently if they feel they’ve had enough of the activity. But, they both have certain pros and cons, as seen below:

Elder Pledge

The Elder Pledge will cause the game to be paused for 30 minutes, and players will be able to enjoy the classic Cookie Clicker game during that time – this pledge can be purchased multiple times. After players have used it ten times, they can research Sacrificial Rolling Pins to increase the duration.

Elder Covenant

The Elder Covenant ends the Grandmapocalypse event permanently, but it does come with a price that may not be worthwhile for some players – CpS will be reduced by 5% for the rest of the game. If players want to return to the Grandmapocalypse after using the Elder Covenant, they can revoke it by spending 6.66 billion cookies. While this is a hefty cost, the upside is that players will get 5% of their CpS back by revoking the Elder Covenant.

The Bingo Center/ Research Facility in Cookie Clicker definitely offers some amazing benefits for players, from awesome upgrades to unique yet challenging endgame events. Although it will take time to gather everything you need to unlock it, it’s definitely worth the effort!

Sometimes, upgrades cost cookies, but can also cost Heavenly Chips or cps. Upgrades grant different types of bonuses, including but not limited to:

  • Making sounds only when something happens,
  • increasing total cookie production,

  • Increasing Golden Cookie frequency, duration, gain, (which also increases Wrath Cookie counterparts),
  • Increasing CPS granted by milk,
  • Hastening the ripeness of Sugar Lumps,
  • Increasing random drops from seasonal effects,
  • Decreasing building costs,
  • Increasing click power based on cursors,
  • and so on and so forth.

All upgrades will appear at the top right of the page, on top of buildings, and will disappear from the list when bought. When bought, they will also appear in the stat sections, where they can be viewed at any time (along with the tooltip on hover, that describes its effects). Just like cookies and buildings, upgrades are often lost when ascending. Permaslotted upgrades, however, will stay throughout ascensions. Seasonal Cookie Flavours are also usually lost, but they have a chance of being kept, as long as one buys the Keepsakes heavenly upgrade .

Income-multiplier Upgrades [ ]

With the exception of the green yeast digestives flavored cookie, these upgrades all contribute to a multiplier of the cookie income, which is the total output of all the buildings equipped with their respective upgrades. The income-multiplier upgrades are a mid-game to end-game feature because they become very expensive.

Flavored Cookies [ ]

Flavored cookies increase the base multiplier, which starts at 100%. These bonuses stack multiplicatively. Notably, flavored cookies are listed in a separate section from the other upgrades on the stats screen.

Of the 245 cookies, 236 have a fixed CpS multiplier, one does not provide a multiplier ("Green yeast digestives"), seven have a variable multiplier based on the game state (Valentine's Cookies), and one has a value based on the system clock ("Birthday cookie"). The total CpS multiplier from the 236 standard cookies and the birthday cookie is:

{\displaystyle 1.01^{7}\times 1.02^{57}\times 1.03^{22}\times 1.04^{58}\times 1.05^{77}\times 1.09\times 1.1^{15}\approx 12042.172=1204217.2\%}

If Selebrak is worshipped in the Pantheon , and/or if the Starlove heavenly upgrade has been purchased, the heart biscuits have increased CpS boost. The individual and total CpS boost of heart biscuits and flavored cookies as a whole is as follows for each combination of Selebrak and Starlove:

Further CpS Boost Without Starlove With Starlove
Selebrak: N/A Jade Ruby Diamond N/A Jade Ruby Diamond
Individual Heart Biscuits 1.02 1.022 1.024 1.026 1.03 1.033 1.036 1.039
All Heart Biscuits Combined 1.149 1.165 1.181 1.197 1.23 1.255 1.281 1.307
Flavored Cookies Total Boost 1395957.6% 1415230.9% 1434731.8% 1454462.6% 1494622.8% 1525363.2% 1556644% 1588473.1%

Kitten Upgrades [ ]

Each kitten upgrade boosts the CpS multiplier by a percentage proportionate to the Milk amount and each upgrade's effect stacks with another multiplicatively. For example:

  • Kitten helpers boost the CpS by 10% of the Milk amount. So with a Milk level of 150%, Kitten helpers will boost CpS by 1 + 0.1 × 1.5 = 1.15 = 115%
  • Kitten workers boost the CpS by 12.5% of the Milk amount. With a Milk level of 150%, Kitten workers will boost CpS by 1 + 0.125 × 1.5 = 1.1875 = 118.75%
  • With both Kitten helpers and Kitten workers upgrades, the overall Kitten multiplier will be 1.15 × 1.1875 = 1.365625 = 136.5625%

You can check the overall Kitten multiplier (which accounts for the following upgrades, as well as the heavenly upgrade Kitten angels with its milk factor of 0.1) at the top of the Achievements section in Stats. There are other factors which can increase the milk power. See Milk for more details.

Bingo Center/Research Facility [ ]

After you have the "Elder" achievement and own at least 6 grandmas, you are eligible to get the "Bingo Center/Research Facility", which costs 1 quadrillion cookies (as of version 2.052). After you purchase it, it will research an upgrade with each research period taking 30 minutes without "Persistent memory" heavenly upgrade and 3 minutes with it. However: research time is based on frames, not minutes. The game naturally runs at 30 fps. If you alter that to 5 fps to reduce load on your CPU, upgrades will then take 3 hours. At 10 fps they take 1 hour 30 minutes, at 20 fps they take 45 minutes, and so on. Research on the next upgrade will not begin until the previously researched item has been purchased.

If you want "Sacrificial rolling pins" without waiting, you can buy "Elder Pledge", then "Elder Covenant", then "Revoke Elder Covenant", then repeat until you've unlocked the upgrade.

  • The flavor text for the Ghostly biscuit upgrade "spooky scary skeletons will wake you with a boo" is a reference to the Andrew Gold song "Spooky Scary Skeletons"
  • The Prism upgrade Pure Cosmic Light was the only main building final upgrade to not have a blue sparkle in its sprite as of V1.0411 (fixed in 1.0418).
  • The flavor text for the prism upgrade Grainbow, "Remember the different grains using the handy Roy G. Biv mnemonic" refers to the mnemonic Roy G. Biv, which actually is used to remember the seven colors of the rainbow.
  • Вefore 1.0420, season updates couldn't be bought twice in a row (i.e. once the 24 hours are over, it becomes locked again, so you need to buy a different season before you can buy this one again).
  • Starting with the version 2, base cost of "Licorice macarons" upgrade increased 10 million times, from 1 quintillion to 10 septillion , which makes it most significant upgrade cost increase both in absolute and relative numbers at the moment. Next cost increase in absolute numbers to consider is " Brane transplant " — from 1.667 trillion to 5 quintillion (cost of efficiency increase upgrades for buildings is calculated based on building base price and tier multiplier common for all building types).
  • The flavor text for Bunny biscuit is a reference to Watership Down's El-Ahrairah being blessed with being hard to catch.
  • The base price of eggs and the bonus value of "egg" may be a play on the French words "un œuf" and "un neuf", respectively "an egg" and "a nine", those being homophonous in French, Orteil's native language.

  • The "Ardent heart biscuits" upgrade's flavor text probably have a reference to Red Hot Chili Peppers band.
  • However, Orteil has previously said that "egg" is not a reference to anything.
  • The flavor text for "Shark Egg" is a reference to the thoughts of the sharks in one of Orteil's other games, Nested
  • If you look at the upgrades in the Stats screen after they are purchased, they will all say "[Purchased]". However, the kitten upgrades will say "[Purrchased]". This also applies to the upgrade when it is not purchased; on the bottom it says "Click to purrchase" instead of "Click to purchase."
  • The flavor text for the "Undecillion fingers" upgrade is a reference to the movie " The Year Without A Santa Claus "
  • All upgrades that "added x base CpS" to the buildings were changed to another "doubles efficiency" upgrade, which was a buff because the base CpS increase was less than the original base CpS, and each upgrade stacks with all others (except the doubling efficiency of cursors and their -illion fingers)
  • This is later changed again where each upgrade becomes multiplicative, from "Trillion fingers" onwards by 20 instead of the flat increase by 10 times. However, it also makes the highest "finger" upgrade no longer give an incredible flat amount of cookies per click at the start of a new ascension.
  • As stated above, Persistent Memory is no longer an actual upgrade, but now a legacy upgrade, costing 5 heavenly chips.
  • Upgrades that add to the cookie production multiplier (i.e. Santa's Dominion adds +20% cookie production) were buffed to be global, so the percentages were reduced. Cookie upgrades that added +5% made the percentage, for example, go from 1,000% go up to 1,005% production. Now, those +5% cookie upgrades give +1% cookie production, and would boost the percentage from 1,000% to 1,010%.
  • The description of certain research upgrades were changed to match how they really act. One Mind, for example, originally said "grandmas gain +1 base CpS per 50 grandmas," implying you may need to get 50 grandmas for a CpS boost. Now, it says "grandmas gain +0.02 CpS per grandma," showing that each grandma boosts every other grandma by 0.02 base CpS, instead of requiring 50 to get the boost.
  • Some cookies/biscuits (i.e. Macarons) now require a Heavenly Upgrade to purchase.
  • The Cookie Upgrade "Pecan Sandies" flavor text is a reference to the It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 3 Episode 9 "Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person" where Frank wants the band to be called "The Pecan Sandies"
  • The flavor text for the "Molasses cookies" upgrade is a reference to the song "Potatoes and Molasses" from Episode 3 of the short cartoon series "Over the Garden Wall."
  • The stuff rationale's description is a reference to the Xavier: Renegade Angel episode "Vibracaust."
  • The flavor text for the "Butter pucks" upgrade is a reference to the character Puck from Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream , when Puck says, "Lord, what fools these mortals be!"

Cookie Clicker: How To Cause The Grandmapocalypse

All hail the new flesh.

how to get a research facility in cookie clicker

One of the most bizarre, twisted, and freakish twists in video games comes from Cookie Clicker . If you’ve heard of Cookie Clicker , it’s because of this infamous event — the Grandmapocalypse. And now that Cookie Clicker is out on Steam , its the perfect time to revisit one of gaming’s most brain-melting moments. This isn’t a standard clicker game, this is an abomination from the old gods. Cookie Clicker has granted us eyes so that we may see .

Cookie Clicker is a legendary clicker game created by the one-man dev team Julien “Orteil” Theinnot. Originally released as a browser game way back in 2013, this memetic game about creating your own cookie empire turned dark and strange thanks to constant updates from the creator, adding bizarre new features until we now have a very fully-featured little game all about clicking a big cookie endlessly.

In Cookie Clicker , you can upgrade your grandma workforce into a fleshy mass of endless baking potential. Here’s how to trigger the grandmapocalypse .

how to get a research facility in cookie clicker

How To Trigger The Grandmapocalypse Event

To begin the end times, you’ll need to fulfill some early steps. Before you can get started, you’ll need to unlock Grandmas — these are a building type that generates cookies automatically.

  • Step #1 : Purchase 7 Grandma types to unlock the “Elder” achievement.

There are many different grandma types. By upgrading and purchasing 7 different types of Grandmas (like the Farmer, or the Cosmic) you’ll get the Elder achievement, and unlock the next required building — the Bingo Hall / Research Center .

  • Step #2: Build the Bingo Hall / Research Center

The Bingo Hall / Research Center upgrade unlocks with the Elder achievement, and has the ability to make your Grandmas four times more efficient . The Research Center costs 1 quadrillion cookies to purchase, so it will take a lot of saving and clicking before you’ll be able to finally purchase it.

  • Step #3: Wait 30 Minutes For New Upgrades

The Research Center unlocks new upgrades after 30 minutes or so. Save up your cookies, because you’ll need 16 quadrillion cookies to purchase the upgrade required to trigger the Grandmapocalypse event.

  • #1 : Specialized Chocolate Chips
  • #2 : Designer Cocoa Beans
  • #3 : Ritual Rolling Pins
  • #4 : Underworld Ovens
  • #5 : One Mind [ Triggers Grandmapocalypse Event ]

Purchase the upgrades in order as they unlock . Each time an upgrade pops up, purchase it and it will take about 30 minutes to unlock another upgrade. The final upgrade, One Mind , costs 16 quadrillion cookies . It also triggers the event, and will completely change your game, giving you disgusting new artwork and a bunch of new features.

What Is The Grandmapocalypse?

The Grandmapocalypse causes a slew of changes to the game. Not all of them are good. Some of them are disgusting. And certain changes are absolutely amazing.

  • Continue to purchase Research Facility upgrades to progress from Phase 1 to Phase 3. Once you reach the final phase, you can stop the effect of the Grandmapocalypse with an upgrade temporarily or permanently.
  • The background art will change. First the Grandmas become creepy, bloody and beedy eyed — then they become abominations of flesh .
  • Wrinklers and Wrath Cookies will spawn. Wrath Cookies replace Gold Cookies, and can give good bonuses or damaging debuffs to your cookie production.

Wrinklers are weird, slimy monstrosities that encircle your cookie and begin syphoning 5% off your Cookies Per Second . You can pop them immediately, or you can let them fill up — once filled, you can pop them for a huge cookie payoff bonus. Basically, there’s no reason to destroy Wrinklers immediately. Let them gorge on cookies, then pop them when they’re ripe for a big reward.

This is when the game gets weird . If the Grandmapocalypse is too disgusting for you, you can turn off the weird stuff in the Settings menu on Steam.

Cookie Clicker: Grandmapocalypse Guide

How to trigger the most infamous event in the game. Including all the details you’ll need to get started on the Grandmapocalypse, Wrinklers and Wrath Cookies.

How to trigger

Grandmas are an unique type of building. They have 2 upgrades, normal upgrades that are unlocked by having a certain number of Grandmas (These have rolling pin icons and are not relevant), and synergy upgrades that are unlocked by having fifteen of other buildings (These have Grandma icons).

Congratulations! You’ve doomed us all.

Phase ?: Appeased

how to get a research facility in cookie clicker

  • Ruin! : Lose cookies. The opposite of  Lucky!
  • Clot : Halves CpS for 66 seconds. The opposite of Frenzy
  • Building debuff : Cuts CpS by a certain amount. This depends on the amount you own of a random building. The opposite of Building buffs.
  • Cursed Finger : For 10 seconds, it turns CpS to 0, but every click grants you 10 seconds of your CpS. Similar to Click Frenzy.
  • Elder frenzy : Boosts CpS by x666 for 6 seconds. One of the strongest effects in the game.

As you can see, Wrath Cookies can be a bit of a gamble. But the positive effects greatly counterweight the negative ones. Golden Cookies are generally still better, because Clots can hurt quite a bit.

If you’re farming Golden Cookies, you should stop the Grandmapocalypse at Phase 1, since you can get Wrinkler benefits while also getting a pretty high chance of getting Golden Cookies. You should still get to Phase 3 on your first runs to get the Grandmapocalypse Achievements.

Wrath Cookies still count towards your Golden Cookies Clicked, so don’t worry about not making progress towards Golden Cookies Achievements.

If you’re an idler who doesn’t care much about hunting for Golden Cookies, there is no reason not to go all the way to Phase 3.

How do you get angry grandmas in cookie clicker?

I have no idea how to get angry grandmas. I have the Bingo/Research Facility upgrade but I don't know how to get the upgrades that are being researched.

Get atleast 7 grandmas and 7 grandma types.

Get the Bingo center/Research facility and buy the new upgrades from that. It will start the grandma apocalypse.

Dr_Bunsen's user avatar

If you already have 7 types of grandmas, then make sure you're waiting long enough, the bingo center takes time to research, approx. 30 minutes, but it can be reduced with the ascension upgrade "Persistent Memory".

Nicholas's user avatar

In order to start the grandmapocolypse, you must first purchase 7 of the upgrades that give you more grandma types, then you must buy the upgrade that unlocks the research, the Bingo center/Research facility upgrade (1 quadrillion cookies) which you already have as you mentioned, and then you must purchase 4 of those researched upgrades (each takes 1/2 hour to research) to get to the upgrade named One Mind (~15 quadrillion cookies), and once you purchase that, the grand matriarchs will get angry and buying further updrades will get the grandmas angrier and wrinklers will start spawning as a result until you make an Elder Pledge or Covenant.

The game is practically the same as the browser version, but with a few additional upgrades and changes that make it much more of a robust game rather than an idle experience.

The Grandma is the second cookie generator that players can buy in Cookie Clicker , right after the Cursor. They aren't exactly powerhouses at the start, but as the game keeps going and players put more and more investment into their elderly cookie makers, they quickly out-produce items all the way up to the Idleverse.

Just like Grandmas in real life, not all Grandmas in Cookie Clicker are the same age. In fact, Grandmas can be anywhere from age 70 all the way past age 100, and every number in between.

The ages of your Grandmas have no effect on their ability to produce cookies . There's nothing quite as hilarious as mousing over your Grandmas and discovering that your first Grandma, Stinky, is still making cookies at the ripe old age of 106.

7 In Cookie Clicker Classic, Grandmas Are Very Different

Grandmas Cookie Clicker Classic

The Grandmas in the modern iterations of Cookie Clicker are pretty cute, compared to renditions of versions in the past. They are rendered in pixel art and change their costumes depending on what upgrades the player has purchased. In the original version of the game, though, it's a different story.

Grandmas in the original Cookie Clicker had four different versions - Inverted, where their color palette is inverted, Lustful, which gives her glowing white eyes, Skeleton, which of course turns her into a Skeleton, and Kaleidoscope, a psychedelic version of the Grandma. These all appear based on the types of Grandma unlocked and what stage of the Grandmapocalypse the player is on.

6 They Are A Requirement For The Bingo Center/Research Facility

Cookie Clicker Everything You need To Know About Grandmas Bingo Center Research Facility Upgrades

Once the Bingo Center/Research Facility is unlocked through Ascension, it can be unlocked early in the game. By owning seven Grandmas, the option to buy a Bingo Center/Research facility opens up, and this should be done as early in a playthrough as possible.

The Bingo Center/Research Facility is key to unlocking special upgrades that fundamentally upgrade your cookie production across the board. It also grants access to certain upgrades that can't be attained any other way.

5 Grandmas Are A Good Investment Early On...

Cookie Clicker Everything You need To Know About Grandmas Starting Out Screen Beginning

While they cost a little bit more than a Cursor, and don't produce as much as a Farm, Grandmas should be a player's primary focus until later in the game. Upgrades associated with Grandmas improve cookie production for almost every other item that can be bought , and some upgrades increase their production based solely on the number of Grandmas owned.

They produce one cookie per second by default, but with regular upgrades they quickly cascade into an unstoppable cookie-producing machine that is hard to match with other items.

4 ...And They Are Arguably The Best In The End-Game, Too

Cookie Clicker Everything You need To Know About Grandmas End Game Idleverse

Theoretically, Grandmas are the best item in the game, even outpacing the Idleverse. The only problem with this is that it's actually impossible to reach the number of Grandmas necessary to outpace the Idleverse thanks to the limits of the game's engine.

However, with careful planning and regular upgrades, Grandmas quickly outproduce Farms, Factories, Shipments, and everything else in their way. They stay cheaper than most other options, too.

3 They Have Lots Of Great Synergy Upgrades Available

Cookie Clicker Everything You need To Know About Grandmas Synergy Upgrades

The Grandmas have access to the best upgrades throughout a regular playthrough of Cookie Clicker . This is thanks to their variety of Grandma types. Farmer Grandmas for example increase the production of Farms by 1% for every Grandma - at 100 Grandmas owned, this effectively doubles Farm production without having to purchase another upgrade.

RELATED: Cookie Clicker: Tips That Will Have You Rolling In The Dough

There are several special upgrades, like the Script Grannies, that further increase these synergistic bonuses. The Bingo Center/Research Facility allows access to upgrades like One Mind, which further increases the amount Grandmas can produce based on the number of Grandmas owned.

2 There Are 19 Different Grandma Appearances To Unlock

Cookie Clicker Everything You need To Know About Grandmas Apperances Different Versions Upgrades

When a player unlocks a new Grandma type, like the Farmer Grandma, the Miner Grandma, or the Witch Grandma, it changes the appearance of some Grandmas standing in their section on the left side of the screen.

While it would appear at first that this means the upgraded bonuses only apply to Grandmas donning the associated outfit, the upgrades apply to all Grandmas. This means that even if a Grandma looks like a Worker Grandma, but the player has unlocked the Altered Grandmas upgrade, all Grandmas will still produce cookies as if they were all Altered.

1 The Grandmapocalypse Is A Terrifying End-Game Event

Cookie Clicker Everything You need To Know About Grandmas Grandmapocalypse

The Grandmapocalypse is an event that only the most dedicated Cookie Clicker players will ever get to see. The Grandmapocalypse can be triggered by owning the One Mind Bingo Center/Research Facility upgrade, but further Grandmapocalypses can be triggered with the Communal Brainsweep and Elder Pact upgrades too.

The Grandmapocalypse fundamentally changes how the game is played . Some Golden Cookies are replaced with Wrath cookies, Wrinklers will start to spawn, and the Grandmatriarchs will begin to alter the appearance of Grandmas in the Store. The Grandmapocalypse can be ended by making a pact with the Grandmatriarchs, but not after the horror has taken over the game.

Cookie Clicker is available on PC via Steam, or in its original browser-based version

Cookie Clicker Ascension Guide – When to Ascend?

Grandmapocalypse Guide Cookie Clicker

Grandmapocalypse Guide Cookie Clicker

At a certain point in Cookie Clicker, you come across something known as the Grandmapocalypse. This is an event that makes your Grandmas way better at baking cookies, at a certain cost. In this Cookie Clicker guide to the Grandmapocalypse, I will be explaining how it works as well as answering a bunch of questions you might have, like whether or not the Grandamapocalypse is even worth it.

The Grandmapocalypse is one of the most interesting parts of Cookie Clicker and definitely a part that you shouldn’t ignore. If you’ve already started it, I recommend checking out the table of contents for this guide as I provide as much information as I could.

I will be keeping this Grandmapocalypse guide updated with new versions of Cookie Clicker as well. Also, this all works with the Steam version!

Make sure to check out our Ascension guide as well! You’ll need it, winky face.

What is the Grandmapocalypse?

how to get a research facility in cookie clicker

The Grandmapocalypse is an event in Cookie Clicker that has three tiers, each level of the event being tied to Grandma upgrades. On the first upgrade, your Grandma buildings start looking different and receive a buff to their cookies per second (.02 CPS per Grandma). After that, you will notice Golden Cookies are sometimes red. These are what are called Wrath Cookies .

Wrath Cookies are explained in a different section, but just know that they can have both positive or negative effects.

Alongside Wrath Cookies, there will sometimes be Wrinklers , which spawn around your giant cookie (the one that you click). These Wrinklers eat some of your CPS and will release it once they have been broken open (by clicking them).

Once you upgrade your Grandmas again (enter stage 2 of Grandmapocalypse) your Grandmas start looking even more ghastly and receive another large buff to their CPS. Wrath Cookies and Wrinklers appear more often now.

The final stage of the Grandmapocalypse has the Grandmas looking like a cthulhu like creature and another buff to their cookies per second. Now, only Wrath Cookies spawn and Wrinklers appear almost instantly.

You will have an option to “appease” the Grandmas and restore things to normal, albeit temporarily.

And that is the explanation behind the Grandmapocalypse. This is all very basic stuff and doesn’t go deep into the mechanics of the Grandmapocalypse. I recommend you read the rest of the Grandmapocalpyse guide to truly understand what is happening.

How to Start the Grandmapocalypse

Bingo Research Center - Grandmapocalypse guide

To start the Grandmapocalypse you need to unlock the Grandma upgrade One Mind. This is the very beginning stage of the Grandmapocalypse and takes a few hours to get if it is your first time playing Cookie Clicker.

To get One Mind, you first need 7 types of Grandmas (see the next section). After which, you will unlock the Bingo Research Center. The Bingo Research center takes roughly 30 minutes per upgrade and costs 1 quadrillion cookies to start. You have four upgrades before One Mind shows up.

In other words, you need to wait at minimum (because the research won’t start again until you purchase the previous upgrade) about two hours before you can start the Grandmapocalypse. There is no way of doing this any quicker.

Getting 7 Types of Grandmas

Types of Grandmas Cookie Clicker

Alright, so you want to start the Grandmapocalypse but you have no idea what 7 types of Grandmas means. Well, to put it simply, the 7 types of Grandmas just means having 7 different buildings with at least 15 total buildings.

Farmer Grandmas Cookie Clicker

Once you have 15 of a certain building, you will unlock the upgrade which will double the efficiency of Grandmas and increase CPS of the building with the amount of Grandmas you own. Do this 7 times to unlock the Bingo Center.

One-Mind Cookie Clicker

One Mind - Cookie Clicker Grandmapocalypse guide

Ok, you have the Bingo Center, you have researched all the pre-requisites, now you are finally ready to start the Grandmapocalypse by purchasing the One Mind upgrade!

There is no going back from purchasing this uprade. If you decide to go through with it, you will be locked into the Grandmapocalpyse with very few options to fix it. Later we will explain that the Grandmapocalpyse isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but you should be prepared for some of the consequences.

A few things happen when in stage one of the Grandmapocalypse (aka One Mind):

  • Golden Cookies are now Wrath Cookies 1/3 of the time
  • Wrinklers start appearing
  • Your Grandmas start changing appearance

So far, this is all that happens.

Communal Brainsweep

Communal Brainsweep

After a few more upgrades at the Bingo Center, you get another chance to upgrade your Grandmas even further. This upgrade, called the Communal Brainsweep, will give your Grandmas another 0.02 CPS per Grandma.

Once you take this upgrade, you have entered the second stage of the Grandmapocalypse.

In the second stage you have:

  • Golden Cookies have a 2/3 chance to be Wrath Cookies
  • Wrinklers appear faster
  • Grandma appearance changes again

Finally, we have the Elder Pact. This is the final stage of the Grandmapocalypse (although not the final upgrade). Elder Pact gives your Grandmas 0.05 CPS per portal.

Once you take the Elder Pact you will have these effects:

  • All Golden Cookies are now Wrath Cookies
  • Wrinklers appear incredibly fast
  • Grandmas become demonic

What is a Grandmatriarch?

A Grandmatriarch is just the scary name for the final form of Grandmas during the Grandmapocalypse. These Grandmas are the most efficient and can even become the strongest building in the game!

Is the Grandmapocalypse Good or Bad?

The most asked question in all of Cookie Clicker, is the Grandmapocalypse a good thing or is it a bad thing? The short answer is, the Grandmapocalypse is a good thing. With the Grandmapocalypse your Grandmas are much better at making cookies and you get Wrinklers, which can get you up to six times your CPS. Also, the Wrath Cookies are almost always worth it as well.

The main strategy that most people employ for the Grandmapocalypse is to stay in stage one, aka, only getting the One Mind upgrade. Apparently this gives the highest CPS over all other upgrades. A redditor actually did a test and found that One Mind is even better than playing without the Grandmapocalypse!

I will be explaining each part of the Grandmapocalypse in the next sections, so keep reading if you want the mechanics explained!

Wrinklers Grandmapocalypse

Wrinkers are the weird little disgusting creatures that start attaching to your big cookie during the Grandmapocalypse. While they are described as being bad for your CPS, they actually increase it tremendously if you let them live. The reason for this is pretty straightforward if you know the numbers behind them.

Each Wrinkler will give you 1.1x of the amount of cookies they have eaten. So, although it looks like they are negatively impacting your CPS, they are actually making you way more than you would regularly. Also, and this is important, Wrinklers give you 1.1x the amount of cookies every Wrinkler ate while that Wrinkler was there .

So, if you had two Wrinklers present at the same time, popping one would give you 1.1x the amount that both of them ate. Because of this, once you have reached 10 Wrinklers eating your CPS, you will end up having what equates to a 6x CPS multiplier.

To summarize, always keep Wrinklers for as long as possible! You can pop one or two if you need it for a big upgrade, but don’t pop them just for the sake of it as they increase your CPS dramatically.

Are Wrinklers Good or Bad?

Wrinklers are incredibly good for you in Cookie Clicker. They increase your CPS by 6x if you let ten of them pile up.

Wrath Cookies

Wrath Cookie Cookie Clicker

Another incredibly important part of the Grandmapocalypse is Wrath Cookies. These are the red version of Golden Cookies and, unlike their golden counterparts, can have negative effects instead of positive.

Wrath Cookie Probability

What’s more interesting about the Wrath Cookies is the fact that they have roughly a 50% chance of being either positive or negative. This means that you are taking an active gamble by clicking on them, one that may or not pay off. You might end up getting a Clot (the negative version of the Frenzy) or you could end up with an Elder Frenzy which gives 666 times CPS for 6 seconds (longer with upgrades).

Here is a list of all the Wrath Cookie Effects:

  • 10 minutes of production is equivalent to  CpS  * 600 .
  • 15 minutes of production is equivalent to  CpS * 900 .
  • This is the same as the  “Lucky!”  effect of  Golden Cookies .
  • This reduces production by 50% for 66 seconds, which is equivalent to losing 33 seconds of production ( CpS * 33 ).
  • With the  Get Lucky upgrade , this lasts 132 seconds, equivalent to losing 66 seconds of production ( CpS * 66 ).
  • When Clot is active, a red border appears around the cookie window.
  • Affects Cookies per Second, but does NOT affect Cookies per Click (although it indirectly affects cookies per click with the ‘mouse’ upgrades).
  • With the “Get Lucky” upgrade, this lasts 12 seconds ( CpS * 7992 ).
  • With 10  Wrinklers  giving an effective 6x CpS and the “Get Lucky” upgrade, the total benefit of the elder frenzy is CpS * 47,952 or 13 hours, 19 minutes, 12 seconds of production
  • With the “Get Lucky” upgrade, this lasts 26 seconds.
  • Works only for manual clicking, not for  Cursor ‘s autoclicking.
  • Assuming the mouse is  upgraded  to adamantium (4% CpS per click), and about 5 clicks per second, this gives x155.4 production ( CpS * 2020 or 4040 ). An unobtainium mouse (5% CpS per click) at the same speed gives x194.25 production ( CpS * 2525 or 5050 ).
  • A massive amount of Golden Cookies appears everywhere on the screen for 7 seconds, each granting you 1–7 minutes worth of cookies.
  • Those cookies do not count for clicked/missed Golden Cookies counters. They can, however, unlock Easter eggs.
  • If the number of cookies in your bank is less than 10 billion, the first cookie you click in the chain will reward you with +6 cookies, and 3 seconds after being clicked another cookie will appear which grants +66 cookies, and then the third +666 cookies, and so on. If the number of cookies in your bank has reached 10 billion but less than 100 billion, the cookie chain will start from +66 cookies, and when reached 100 billion it will start from +666 cookies, and so on.
  • Missing any cookie will break the chain. All cookies (min-capped 1 second at 10+ chain) will appear for 1 to 10 seconds and are NOT prolonged by Lucky Day or Serendipity.
  • Every cookie past the 1st has a 1% chance to not appear.
  • No cookie will appear if the reward exceeds 50% of your bank. (That is, your bank is less than 2x the value of the next cookie.)
  • No cookie will appear if the reward exceeds 6 hours’ worth of cookies.
  • Cookies will spawn until an above condition is met.
  • The following table shows the rewards and requirements for each level of the chain:
  • Sets CpS to 0 for ten seconds, but each click is worth an amount equal to ten seconds of normal (unwithered) production.
  • Works only for manual clicking, not the  Cursors’  autoclicking.
  • Since seed costs are based on CpS, all seeds have their minimum cost during Cursed Finger. It can be advantageous to fill the entire Garden with Bakeberries (or other expensive seeds) during Cursed Finger.
  • Interestingly enough, “Get Lucky” also doubles the value of every click. This bonus works similarly if “Lasting Fortune” is also purchased, making every click worth 22 seconds of normal production.
  • Also interestingly enough, CpS is not updated during the duration of this effect. This means that buildings or upgrades purchased or sold during the duration of this effect will not alter the cookies received from a click until after the effect ends, and means that a Cursed Finger that was received from a Wrath Cookie that was clicked during a Frenzy or Clot will not be affected by the Frenzy or Clot ending.
  • Any reindeer clicked during this duration will give 50 cookies; this is due to the CpS being set to 0 for the duration of the effect.
  • Get a variable bonus to cookie production for 30 seconds; effect shared with Golden Cookies.
  • Possible specials: High-five ( Cursors ), Congregation ( Grandmas ), Luxuriant harvest ( Farms ), Ore vein ( Mines ), Oiled-up ( Factories ), Juicy profits ( Banks ), Fervent adoration ( Temples ), Manabloom ( Wizard towers ), Delicious lifeforms ( Shipments ), Breakthrough ( Alchemy labs ), Righteous cataclysm ( Portals ), Golden ages ( Time machines ), Extra cycles ( Antimatter condensers ), Solar flare ( Prisms ), Winning streak ( Chancemakers ), Macrocosm ( Fractal Engines ), Refactoring ( Javascript Console ), Cosmic nursery ( Idleverses ).
  • You need at least 10 buildings of a type to get its special. One of the applicable specials is chosen at random. However, having at least 10 buildings but less than 10 of each type causes this to become a Frenzy.
  • Production bonus equals +10% per building of the corresponding type, meaning 10 buildings will give you +100% (x2), 20 will give you +200% (x3), and so on.
  • Stacks with Frenzy; if Frenzy and a building special bonus are active at the same time, the bonuses are multiplied. For example, having 50 Cursors when triggering a High-five while a Frenzy is active will grant 42x production for the duration of the stacked bonuses.
  • In contrast to the previous effect, this “rusts” CpS by -10% per owned building of a random type for 30 seconds. It otherwise works within the same requirements of its CpS-boosting counterpart.
  • Possible debuff specials: Slap to the face ( Cursors ), Senility ( Grandmas ), Locusts ( Farms ), Cave-in ( Mines ), Jammed machinery ( Factories ), Recession ( Banks ), Crisis of faith ( Temples ), Magivores ( Wizard towers ), Black holes ( Shipments ), Lab disaster ( Alchemy labs ), Dimensional calamity ( Portals ), Time jam ( Time machines ), Predictable tragedy ( Antimatter condensers ), Eclipse ( Prisms ), Dry spell ( Chancemakers ), Microcosm ( Fractal Engines ), Antipattern ( Javascript Console ), Big crunch ( Idleverses ).
  • The description of this effect is misleading. While it would seem that a production modifier of more than -100% would result in negative cookie production, this effect simply adds the “negative multiplier” to the  denominator  of the Golden Cookie production multiplier. For example, with 105 Banks, a Recession would result in a Golden Cookie production multiplier of (100%) / (100% + 1050%) = 100% / 1150% = 8.695%.
  • As with building buffs, you need at least 10 buildings of a type in order to get a debuff. However, also like the building buffs, having at least 10 buildings but less than 10 of each type causes this to become a Frenzy instead.
  • Cookie crumbliness x3 for 60 seconds!
  • Chocolatiness x7 for 77 seconds!
  • Dough elasticity halved for 66 seconds!
  • Golden cookie shininess doubled for 3 seconds!
  • World economy halved for 30 seconds!
  • Grandma kisses 23% stingier for 45 seconds!
  • Thanks for clicking!
  • Fooled you! This one was just a test.
  • Golden cookies clicked +1!
  • Your click has been registered. Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Thanks! That hit the spot!
  • Thank you. A team has been dispatched.
  • Oops. This was just a chocolate cookie with shiny aluminium foil.
  • Get x15 cookie production for 60 seconds.
  • Requires Reaper of Fields aura to be active on Krumblor.
  • Gives x1111 cookies per click for 10 seconds.
  • Works only for manual clicking, not for  Cursor ‘s autoclicking
  • Can also indirectly stack with frenzy. After buying all the main “mouse” upgrades, your clicking power during frenzy increases by approx x7 because of the increase in CpS, so, therefore, getting a “Dragonflight” during a “Frenzy” yields roughly x7777 clicking power until either the “Frenzy” or “Dragonflight” ends.
  • Requires Dragonflight aura to be active on Krumblor.
  • All buildings are 5% cheaper for 5 seconds.
  • 0.01~0.012%   to get “sweet” : Gain one sugar lump.

As you can see, some of these are incredibly similar to the Golden Cookie upgrades, while some are tied to events or even Krumblor. The main effects to pay attention to are towards the top!

Should You Click Wrath Cookies?

Yes, you should always click Wrath Cookies if you are an active player. The tradeoffs are always worth the eventual reward.

Grandmapocalypse Strategy

The Grandmapocalypse strategy involves staying in the first stage of the Grandmapocalypse (One Mind) and keeping the Wrinklers always on your big cookie. This gives you your 6x CPS bonus from the Wrinklers while also giving you the chance of getting massive CPS multipliers from Golden/Wrath Cookie combos.

For inactive players that just idle, it is better to upgrade all the way to the final stage of the Grandmapocalypse. You avoid the only negative part (Wrath Cookies) while increasing your CPS and getting a whole bunch of extra upgrades along the way. Wrinklers also spawn much faster, so you can afford to pop one or two more often.

How to Stop the Grandmapocalypse

You might have gone too far in the Grandmapocaplypse and want to somehow stop it. There are two ways to stop the Grandmapocalypse in Cookie Clicker. The first, you can use the Elder Pledge to halt the Grandmapocalypse for 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can use the Elder Convenant to end it permanently, in exchange for 5% CPS.

What is recommended by most people, is to only use Elder Pledge and Elder Covenant when you are wanting to unlock achievements. Otherwise, you are better off ascending and restarting the run if you don’t want the Grandmapocalypse.

Warning : Selling all your Grandmas will pop your Wrinklers and prevent others from spawning. Try to avoid selling all of your Grandmas.

Does Elder Pledge Pop Wrinklers?

The Elder Pledge does pop all of your Wrinklers.

Is Elder Pledge Good?

Elder Pledge is only good if you want to unlock the achievement, otherwise restart the run.

Grandmapocalypse Achivements

Grandmapocalypse Achivements

The list of Grandmapocalypse achievements are:

  • Elder Nap: Appease the Grandmatriarchs once
  • Elder Slumber: Appease the Grandmatriarchs 5 times
  • Elder Calm: Delcare a covenant with the Grandmatriarchs
  • Itchscratcher: Pop 1 Wrinkler
  • Wrinklesquisher: Pop 50 Wrinklers
  • Moistburster: Burst 200 Wrinklers

As I’ve said before, it is good to go through all stages of the Grandmapocalypse at least once to get the achievements done.

Getting the Grandmapocalypse Fast

Persistent Memory - Grandmapocalypse Guide

To get back to the Grandmapocalypse fast if you have already done it in a previous run, you will need the Heavenly Upgrade Persistent Memory . This upgrade unlocks research 10 times faster (meaning it takes 3 minutes per upgrade).

Income-multiplier Upgrades

With the exception of Green Yeast Digestives, all flavored cookies contribute to a multiplier of the cookie income, which is the total output of all the buildings equipped with their respective upgrades.

Flavored Cookies

Flavored cookies increase the base multiplier, which starts at 100%. These bonuses stack multiplicatively. Notably, flavored cookies are listed in a separate section from the other upgrades on the stats screen.

Of the 245 cookies, 236 have a fixed CpS multiplier, one does not provide a multiplier ("Green yeast digestives"), seven have a variable multiplier based on the game state (Valentine's Cookies), and one has a value based on the system clock ("Birthday cookie"). The total CpS multiplier from the 236 standard cookies and the birthday cookie is:

{\displaystyle 1.01^{7}\times 1.02^{57}\times 1.03^{22}\times 1.04^{58}\times 1.05^{77}\times 1.09\times 1.1^{15}\approx 12042.172=1204217.2\%}

Kitten Upgrades

The player can check the overall Kitten multiplier, which accounts for the following upgrades, as well as Fortune #103 (milk factor 0.05) and the heavenly upgrade Kitten angels (milk factor 0.1) at the top of the Achievements section in Stats. There are other factors which can increase the milk power. See Milk for more details.

Bingo Center/Research Facility

After obtaining the "Elder" achievement with at least 6 grandmas owned, the player is eligible to get the "Bingo Center/Research Facility", which costs 1 quadrillion cookies (as of version 2.048). After purchasing it, it will research an upgrade with each research period taking 30 minutes without "Persistent memory" heavenly upgrade and 3 minutes with it. However: research time is based on frames, not minutes. The game naturally runs at 30 fps. If the player alters that to 5 fps to reduce load on their CPU, upgrades will then take 3 hours. At 10 fps they take 1 hour 30 minutes, at 20 fps they take 45 minutes, and so on. Research on the next upgrade will not begin until the previously researched item has been purchased.

If the player wants "Sacrificial rolling pins" without waiting, they can buy "Elder Pledge", then "Elder Covenant", then "Revoke Elder Covenant", then repeat until they have unlocked the upgrade.

He explains to Elaine that they must 'look to the cookie' and all our race problems will be solved (this is referring to the black and white colors on the cookie, in harmony). It may also refer to a Mortal Kombat easter egg, "Look to la luna."
  • The quote for the cookie upgrade "Madeleines" ( "Unforgettable!" ) is a reference to the book In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust, in which madeleines are used to contrast involuntary memory with voluntary memory.
  • The 4 cookies added in 1.036 - Madeleines , Palets, Palmiers and Sablés - are types of French biscuits, which may be a form of cheeky patriotism on Orteil's part.
  • The 4 new cookie upgrades added in version 1.075, Caramoas, Sagalongs, Shortfoils and Win Mints, are based on Girl Scout cookies, referring to Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, and Thin Mints respectively.

  • The "Christmas Tree Biscuits" quote, "Whose pine is it anyway?" is a reference to the popular comedy-improvisation show "Whose line is it anyway?" that ran in the late 80's to early 90's with both English and American versions.
  • The flavor text of "Santa's Dominion" makes a reference to a poem of Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley . The poem's quote is "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
  • The Weighted Sleighs upgrade's flavor text may possibly be a reference to a saying from Gabe Newell.
  • It seems like even with upgrades that make other upgrades cheaper, the player still needs the original amount of cookies for upgrades to light up. This is only a visual bug, and the player can still buy the upgrade even if it isn't brightened.
  • When holding the cursor in the store and moving it quickly over the tooltip of an upgrade, the store window will minimize.
  • The flavor text for the Christmas upgrade 'Increased merriness' ,'The s'more the merrier', is a play on the quote, "The more the merrier". A s'more is a roasted marshmallow sandwiched between two graham crackers.
  • If the game is not in Christmas season, using the command 'Game.seasonPopup.spawn ()' will spawn a bouncing golden cookie instead of a reindeer.

  • The flavor text for the prism upgrade Grainbow, "Remember the different grains using the handy Roy G. Biv mnemonic" refers to the mnemonic Roy G. Biv, which actually is used to remember the seven colors of the rainbow.
  • Вefore 1.0420, season updates couldn't be bought twice in a row (i.e. once the 24 hours are over, it becomes locked again, so the player needs to buy a different season before they can buy this one again).

  • The "Aqua crustulae" upgrade name means "Water of cookie" in Latin, although in proper grammar this would be "Aqua crustuli" or "Aqua crustulorum". It's probably is a reference to Latin expression " Aqua vitae " that means "Water of life".
  • If the player looks at the upgrades in the Stats screen after they are purchased, they will all say "[Purchased]".
One Mind, for example, originally said "grandmas gain +1 base CpS per 50 grandmas," implying the player may need to get 50 grandmas for a CpS boost.
  • "Beardlier Beards" Wizard Upgrade flavor text "The beard is the word" is a reference to the song Surfin Bird by The Trashmen.
  • The Name and flavor text for "Rules of acquisition" is a refrence to the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition from the Start Trek series.
  • The "Havabreaks" upgrade is a reference to Kit Kat chocolate bars. The name is a reference to the Kit Kat slogan "Have a break", the icon looks similar to actual Kit Kat bars, and the flavor text describes the chocolate bar and brings up the 200+ Kit Kat flavors in Japan.
  • The "Dim Dams" upgrade references the popular snack Tim Tams.
  • The flavor text for Corn syrup cookies is likely a reference to the "Country girls make do" meme phrase.
  • The flavor text for "A festive hat, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse , is a direct quotation from the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas"
  • The flavor text for "Reindeer baking grounds" is a reference to the book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus by John Gray.
  • The flavor text for "Santa's legacy" is a reference to a quote from the movie Scarface: “In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women.”
  • The flavor text for "Santa's dominion" is a reference to the poem Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley: 'My name is Ozymandias, king of kings; Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
  • The "Reindeer Season" flavor text Go, Cheater! Go, Hacker and Faker! is a reference the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" where santa calls his reindeer by name: And he whistled, and shouted, and call'd them by name: "Now! Dasher, now! Dancer, now! Prancer and Vixen,' "On! Comet, on! Cupid, on! Donner and Blitzen"
  • The "Magic Shenanigans" flavor text " It's magic, I ain't gotta explain sh*t." is a reference to the meme of the same name.
  • The " Turbo-charged soil" flavor text "It's got electrolytes!" is a reference to the movie " Idiocracy "
  • "Steamed cookies" that are "localized entirely within this gaming platform" are references to the Steamed Hams scene between Seymour Skinner and Superintendent Chalmers, in an episode of the Simpsons named: "22 Short Films About Springfield" .
  • The flavor text of the debug upgrade "Ultrascience" ( "YEAH, SCIENCE!" ) may be a reference to a quote said by Jesse Pinkman in a Breaking Bad episode titled "A No-Rough-Stuff-Type Deal."
  • The upgrade "Forwards from grandma" is a reference to the subreddit r/forwardsfromgrandma.
  • The upgrade "Great Baker in the sky" might be a reference to either the Pink Floyd song "The Great Gig in the Sky" or Mao Zedong's propaganda song "Red Sun in the sky"

Definitive Cookie Clicker Ascension Guide for All Skill Levels

  • Ascension is like starting a New Game+ where you forfeit your current progress for new bonuses. It introduces Prestige Levels, Heavenly Chips, and Heavenly Upgrades, enhancing gameplay and replayability.
  • It's recommended to ascend after amassing 100-200 trillion cookies for a significant number of Prestige Levels and Heavenly Chips, which offer substantial benefits for subsequent playthroughs.
  • Key upgrades to prioritize after ascending include Legacy, Heavenly Cookies, How to Bake Your Dragon, Heavenly Luck, and Permanent Upgrade Slot 1, each providing substantial boosts to gameplay.

It is hard to believe that Cookie Clicker launched 10 years ago. A game that defined idle-clickers for a long time, Cookie Clicker might seem look like a precursor to the countless mobile idle-clickers we see today, but it has a large and loyal fanbase. Natively released on Steam and Android , while being accessible on every platform via its original web version, Cookie Clicker is extremely addictive.

While Cookie Clicker may be an idle-clicker game, it does feature some complex mechanics that are a major reason as to why the game is so popular. Ascension is one such confusing mechanic, with many players wondering what it does and whether it is even worth it. Well, we’re here today to explain ascension in Cookie Clicker in the simplest terms possible.

What is ascension in cookie clicker, 1. prestige levels, 2. heavenly chips, 3. heavenly upgrades, what is the perfect time to ascend, which heavenly upgrades should i get after ascending.

Ascension is essentially the New Game+ version of Cookie Clicker. When you decide to ascend, you forfeit all of your current progress to start a new game, but this time with new bonuses. While simple enough on paper, the perfect time to ascend has been a subject of debate among the players for many years.

What Happens When You Ascend?

When you ascend, you lose 3 things:

  • All of your cookies
  • All of your buildings
  • All of the upgrades you bought from the shop

However, all your sugar lumps and building levels remain intact and carry over to the new game, along with all of your achievements . When you ascend, 3 new mechanics will be introduced: Prestige Levels and Heavenly Chips , and Heavenly Upgrades .

Prestige Levels are bonuses that are unlocked when you ascend. Each Prestige Level adds 1% to you total cookie production per second (CPS) . Therefore, if you have 10 Prestige Levels, that means you gain an extra 10% of cookies being produced per second. Prestige Levels are unlocked automatically when you ascend.

Heavenly Chips are a form of currency made available when you decide to ascend. They are used to unlock bonuses like permanent upgrade slots . For your first ascension, 1 Heavenly Chip is equal to 1 trillion cookies forfeited. Heavenly Chips and Prestige levels are granted on 1:1 ratio when ascending.

Heavenly Upgrades are the bonuses you unlock using Heavenly Chips. These are upgrades that carry over to your new game when you decide to ascend. As such, you should choose the ones that are going to be the most beneficial for you in the long run.

You can ascend any time you want, although ascending before having a surplus of 1 trillion cookies is useless. That’s because ascending before obtaining the mentioned amount grants you no Prestige Levels and no Heavenly Chips, therefore resetting all your progress for nothing. Even if you have 1 trillion cookies, you shouldn’t ascend right away.

The more cookies you have, the more Heavenly Chips and Prestige Levels you gain when ascending, leading to more Heavenly Upgrades. Therefore, ascend only when you’re confident that you have enough Prestige Levels and Heavenly Chips. You can ascend as many times as you want so there’s no end to Cookie Clicker.

The most contested topic between fans of Cookie Clicker, there are countless opinions on when a player should ascend. Ascending early, as we’ve already established, does more harm than good. So how far ahead should one be before ascending?

how to get a research facility in cookie clicker

According to most veterans, for your first ascension, you should ascend after amassing 200 trillion cookies , which are the equivalent of 200 Prestige Levels and 200 Heavenly Chips . Most players aren’t keen on waiting this long and usually ascend after compiling 100 trillion cookies .

Any lower is fine too, but since the number of cookies required for gaining Prestige Levels and Heavenly Chips increases after each ascension, it is essential that you ascend with at least 100 trillion cookies. This will give you high amount of Prestige Levels so that you can amass cookies with ease, and, with a 100 Heavenly Chips, you can unlock several vital upgrades which will help you greatly in the next playthrough.

After ascending, there are more than a 100 Heavenly Upgrades to choose from. Some of the best Upgrades, along with their cost in terms of Heavenly Chips include:

  • Legacy (1 Chip): Unlocks the Heavenly Chips and makes your Prestige Level bonus permanent (1% added to CPS per Prestige Level).
  • Heavenly Cookies (3 Chips): Permanent 10% cookie production multiplier.
  • How To Bake Your Dragon (9 Chips): Lets you buy a crumbly egg after baking 1 million cookies in an ascended state. A crumbly egg can boost your CPS by 100-250% .
  • Heavenly Luck (77 Chips): Golden Cookies appear 5% more frequently .
  • Permanent Upgrade Slot 1 (100 Chips) : Unlocks a slot in which an upgrade can be placed. This upgrade will carry over through all your ascensions, as long as it remains in the slot.

Research facility as an AFK player - how far should you go?

I am a mobile player and I wonder how far I should go with the research facility upgrades. I check the game only once every second or even third day, and then I only look if I can buy certain buildings or upgrades. Needless to say, I am not the most active player and thus I don't look out that much for getting golden cookies. That said, how far should I go with the research facility upgrades to ensure the most afk efficiency?
