bad system, terribly organized

Schoology seems like a great app to use for school & everything going on this year especially with COVID-19, but is it really? All the students are having a hard time trying to figure out everything with it. The due dates are too small, you can’t delete submissions you didn’t mean to send, very unorganized, and doesn’t say the assignment are done even after you submit your response. This is a terrible way to have many students focus on school. The courses you are in show up alphabetically and not in order, which can be very stressful and hard on students who like to be organized or have OCD and need to have it a specific way. The notifications are on the home screen of the app, instead they should have each class, like google classroom, with the due date and time, so you can click the assignment and it’s easy. The folders in the course class are also very hard to understand. Instead of all the assignments popping up you should just be able to click a certain folder and open it and get what you need. Also, when submitting a Google Document or a Word assignment, the assignment gets all messed up when submitted, which can ruin your students grade. This school year, needs to be organized & easy, for all our online, in school, & hybrid students. This is not an organized app for any school to use. Too messy for anyone. Even the teachers are confused on everything. Terrible app. Not recommended.

Good app, but a few bugs

The website of Schoology is very good. It is useful for school, especially during coronavirus quarantine because we have to learn from home. However, the app is not as good as the website. When I check the notifications, it doesn’t show me the new ones. Even after refreshing, it still just shows the old notifications. Then, after it finally shows me the new ones, the “notifications” section still has a red dot on it. (Even after the most recent update) When I close the app, it still says that there are a bunch of notifications. I also have trouble accessing links sometimes. Also, when a link actually works, the website it goes to always shows up in a pop-up. It never shows up in an actual browser. Another problem is that it takes forever to upload a video, which is a problem when I’m trying to submit a recorded project. A summary of my review: The website is great, but the app needs some bug fixes. Edit: Most of the links work, but there are still a few that don’t work. I’m still having problems with the notifications. When I checked the app this morning, it said that I had over 50 notifications. I did the same things: open notifications, refresh, go back to home page, refresh, go back to notifications, refresh. I repeated this process several times and I think I refreshed the page about 10 times, but there were still 50. I had to restart my iPad and then refresh 3 more times to get rid of that 50. There is still 1.
I’m a student and we use schoology in class. Schoology does good things like keep all of our work together but it has SO SO SO many bugs, malfunctions (we’ve had times where the app was down for a day so we couldn’t access our work) and I can tell it really stresses out the teachers and my fellow classmates. There’s always something wrong. There was once an entire week when the app didn’t work so we would have to use the website which is laggy. Schoology has good intentions, but mixed with the lags it depends what type of person you are. It’s not my schools choice to use schoology and even our principal doesn’t really like it. I don’t know how the elementarys in our district use this. It’s too complicated sometimes. I understand the developers probably spent a lot of work on this and I respect that because I’m not very good at coding myself and it has soOOOO many features on this app… when there’s not bugs this app can make my work a lot easier to access. I will say though, when I was forced to be virtual during quarantine and all we had besides zoom and email was schoology, it was very stressful for me (it makes me very scared that we might have to go back virtual and I’m going have to rely on schoology again..) But other than that id say that if schoology just worked on it’s bugs a little bit this app could be great for districts. :)

For discussion about Schoology.

All of my students are using iPads for their schoology assignments. The assignment is to submit an image, but sometimes I get them as .jpg, sometimes it’s an .html file, sometimes a .pdf. I think I’ve even seen a few other file formats...What are they doing wrong?

For the life of me I can seem to troubleshoot this, it doesn’t help that they can never remember what they did when I ask them questions about it. The problem is that sometimes because of the file format, I can’t even see the image they submit. Sometimes it will be so large or small that it doesn’t work on my screen, or won’t even show up at all.

They are all the same model of iPad, provided by the school. And (allegedly) they are all following the same instructions on how to submit assignments...

Kami and Schoology

Are you ready to level up your Schoology experience? In this video, you’ll learn how to create Kami assignments in Schoology and easily share them with your students.

Hiya, I’m Vanessa. I’m on the community team here at Kami and I love supporting and cheering on our educators. But more importantly, I love sharing top tips to make your lives even easier. Today I’m going to show you how Kami and Schoology works so well together. Getting set up is super simple, just make sure you and your students have the Kami extension installed. First, let’s dive straight into Kami and start creating an assignment for our class. For this assignment, I’m going to use this Bubble Map Template from the Kami Library. As you can see, I’ve already added in text boxes invoice comment instructions, but I want to add one more touch before I sign it out to my students. So I’m going to use the Add Media tool to drop an image in the middle. Another awesome thing about Kami is that all your work is automatically saved to either your Google Drive or OneDrive to a specific Kami Uploads folder, keeping all your Kami files in one place. Now that the assignment is ready to be assigned, let’s click on the Sharing button up here. Here you can see your unique Kami sharing link general sharing permissions, plus download and print permissions. I’m going to copy the unique sharing link. And now we’re ready to move on to the next step in Schoology. So let’s hop on over there.

Here we are in Schoology. With that Kami link and I copied earlier, I can quickly create an update in Schoology for quick collaboration. I’m going to click the link button, paste in the Kami link and give it a title and click Attach. I can also hit the bell button. If I want to make it an announcement. I want to make this an assignment. So I’m going to go to materials and from the drop down menu, I’m going to select the Kami option. It’s really important that you remember the steps so you get the full Kami experience. From here I’ll choose my file and I know where my work is because conveniently Kami saves everything to my Kami Uploads folder. So we’ll go to Google Drive and I’ll grab that file. I also have the option to control features where I can adjust the camera tools my students can access to complete the assignment, I’m actually only going to allow my students to use a few Kami tools to complete this assignment. And here is my Schoology window. Here I can confirm the due date, choose a category and I will save the changes. My assignment has now been sent out to my students. If you ever want to make any edits to your newly created assignment, click the Edit Template button to make some changes to your file before your students access to the assignment. Students received their assignment as normal in Schoology, and they can click the assignment directly to open it into Kami. Over on the toolbar, you can see the Feature Control selections that I’ve put in place. Once they finish their assignment, they can click Submit and see the celebratory confetti. Now that we’re ready to grade, open the Kami assignment in Schoology and click Open Grader. Here you’ll be able to monitor student’s work even before they click the Submit button. So make sure to take full advantage of this awesome feature when needed. I’ve marked up and left some feedback already. So to finish it off, I’ll leave a grade comment and hit post.

And there we have it. Now you’re ready to start your first Kami assignment with Schoology remember to have fun with your own content and Chemi create dynamic learning experiences and let me help you keep making connections. Thanks for tuning in.
