Toggling [ ]

Experimental Gameplay is found in the world options when creating or editing a world. When turning the option on in an existing world, a copy of the world will be created automatically. Turning the option on disables achievements after the world is created. Once the experimental world is created, it cannot be turned off again. Worlds with the experimental on will have an "Experimental" tag right next to the game mode name in the world menu.

Warnings [ ]

Experimental Gameplay Load

The warning message when attempting to play on an experimental world.

The point of Experimental Gameplay is for the player to look at some not-quite-finished features, which could crash, break, or stop working at any point in future updates. When the player attempts to load the experimental world, it will show a warning message before loading it. Attempting to disable experimental gameplay toggle via external tools could also crash and break the world.

It is recommended to create back up copies of the world when playing on experimental, or not enabling experimental toggle on to avoid breaking the world and having issues in future updates.

Features (Bedrock Edition) [ ]

There are 8 different toggles of Experimental Gameplay on Bedrock Edition. [1] [2] These are:

  • Enables add-ons features added on the holiday update and some further updates that include the creation of custom blocks and items, Molang enhancements and the run_command method. This toggle will soon be removed from Bedrock Edition entirely, thus breaking add-ons using these features, mostly block and item events.
  • Enables custom biomes by using add-ons.
  • Used for Volume Driven Fog and entity properties and permutations.
  • Enables the usage for "-beta" versions of API modules in add-on packs.
  • Enables experimental Molang features.
  • Enables the / camera command and its features.
  • Overhauled trades for Villager and Wandering Trader
  • Introducing new experimental cross-platform graphics features for creators

Features (Java Edition) [ ]

There are two data packs of experimental features on Java Edition:

  • Enables the experimental bundle item.
  • While this data pack is selectable during world creation, it will not be found within the datapacks folder of the save.

How to turn Vanilla Experiments on in Minecraft

More exciting than it sounds

Minecraft Vanilla Experiments let you tinker with future features long before they’re officially added.

It’s an unstable mode, though, and one you need to make sure you’re happy with before getting started. If you’re impatient and want to see what Mojang has in store, though, it’s a way to change how you approach the game and see how features evolve over time.

What are Vanilla Experiments in Minecraft

Vanilla Experiments are essentially Minecraft’s public test servers. They’re similar to Snapshots, but only work on the Beta Bedrock version of the game. Vanilla Experiments let you get familiar with features that aren’t available in the game yet. Following the release of Cliffs and Caves Part 2 , the next Vanilla Experiment previews a handful of additions from the upcoming Wild update, including Goat Horns and all things Sculk, such as veins, catalysts, and sensors.

The Vanilla Experiments option is always available, and you can work with it in a few ways.

How to turn on Vanilla Experiments in Minecraft

You can turn on Vanilla Experiments in an existing world to tinker with it there or activate it before creating a new world, if you want to start from the beginning.

minecraft vanilla experiments

To edit an existing world with Vanilla Experiments:

  • Click the pencil icon
  • Navigate to “Settings” and find the Experiments group
  • Choose “Activate Experiments”
  • Wait while the game creates a copy of your world
  • Find the copy named “Copy of” whatever you named it

To create a new world with Vanilla Experiments enabled:

  • During creation, navigate to the Experiments section
  • Toggle “Vanilla Experiments” on
  • Accept the warning

Keep in mind the experiments mode is unstable. The features you’re previewing might not work correctly, and they’re subject to change between the time you play them and when Mojang officially adds them to the game.

Finally, make sure you’re happy to have experiments in your world because you can’t turn them off. If you’re tired of them, you’ll have to create a new world without Experiments.

While you’re wandering the wilds of Minecraft , keep an eye out for some rare items that should be easier to find in the new update. Higher block height means more chances to find Packed Ice , and if you run across an azalea tree , you’re in luck. There’s a Lush Cave below, and probably an Axolotl or two inside.

Minecraft Bedrock Edition How To Turn On Vanilla Experiments

Looking to get your hands on some features early in Minecraft Bedrock Edition? This guide will help you enable the Vanilla Experiments.

' src=

Minecraft Bedrock edition has a feature exclusive to it that is known as Experimental Gameplay. This allows players to experience features that are still in development earlier than the official release date. It is a double-edged sword because while you get to play new features they might break and show unexpected behavior. So if getting early access to upcoming content sounds interesting to you read along to learn how to enable and turn on Vanilla Experiments in Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

How to Enable Vanilla experiments in Minecraft Bedrock edition

how to turn on vanilla experiments in minecraft bedrock edition

There are two ways you can enable vanilla experiments. The first way is when creating a world. And the other way is by editing an existing world. Let us check how to enable it in both.

  • When you create a new world. Scroll down to the Experiments section in the Game Settings.
  • In this section, you will find an option known as Vanilla Experiments. Toggle this option on.
  • Here you will get a popup warning you that your world might crash, break, or not work with future updates. If you are okay with this then click on Activate Experiments.
  • If you have already created a world then you can edit its settings by clicking on the pencil icon on the right.
  • Similar to the above steps, scroll to the Game Settings and find the Experiments section.
  • When you get the warning popup select Activate Experiments.
  • Since this is an existing world, it will start to create a copy of the world to add the experimental feature. You can find the new world with this feature under the name “Copy of” followed by your world’s name in which you enabled experiments. For example, if your world was “The World”, then the copy will be named as “Copy of The World”.
  • You can see it worked if under the world there is “Experimental” written beside the game mode.
  • Remember you cannot change your experimental world to a non-experimental one.

That covers everything you need to know about how to enable and turn on Vanilla Experiments in Minecraft Bedrock Edition. If you like playing this game the check our other guides on how to make a private server and the best diamond levels for Minecraft 1.18.

Vanilla Experiments on Minecraft

  • by Matthew Paxton

Do you like playing with clay and other blocks in Minecraft? If so, you’ll love the Vanilla Experiments feature.

When it’s activated, you can try new features of the game. Our gamers will show you how to turn it on in this guide.

What Are Vanilla Experiments in the Game Minecraft?

Vanilla Experiments are like public test servers for Minecraft. They are like Snapshots but only work in the Beta Bedrock version of the game.

You can use Vanilla Experiments to try out features that aren’t in the game yet. After Cliffs and Caves Part 2, the next Vanilla Experiment shows off a few new features from the upcoming Wild update.

Vanilla Experiments

As per the recent stats in Minecraft , these include Goat Horns and everything Sculk, like veins, catalysts [ 1 ], and sensors. Vanilla Experiments is always a choice, and you can use it in a few different ways.

  • Go to "Settings" and find the group called "Experiments"
  • Select "Activate Experiments"
  • Your world will be copied while you wait
  • Find the copy named “Copy of” whatever you named it

Vanilla Experiments Minecraft

To make a new world with Vanilla Experiments turned on, do the following:

  • Go to the Experiments section during the creation
  • Toggle "Vanilla Experiments" on
  • Accept the warning

Don’t forget that the experiment mode is not stable. The features you’re trying out might not work right, and they might change between now and when Mojang adds them to the game for real.

Experimental Features in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition

  • 5 contributors

image showing the Document Versions Dropdown.

With each retail version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, there are a few features that are currently in an experimental state. Experimental Features can be toggled on for creators who are interested in testing the latest features offered in the preview, and retail versions of Minecraft.

The Experiments toggle list is subject to frequent changes and could have entirely different options from the ones in your own version of Minecraft. Also, the screen shots shown here might look different.

Experimental Features available in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition

There are two sets of experimental features available, depending on whether you are using a retail version of Minecraft or the latest version of Minecraft Preview.

These are the currently available Experimental toggles in the 1.20.81 retail build at the time of this writing.

GAMEPLAY - Change the way your world works

Villager Trade Rebalancing Contains updated trades for villages for the purpose of rebalancing

These are the currently available Experimental toggles in the 1.21.10 preview build at the time of this writing.

How do I activate an Experimental Features toggle for my world?

You can activate an experimental toggle for any of your new or existing worlds.

Activating experimental features that are still under development means that your world might crash, break, or not work with future updates.

If you're planning to build content that you want to share with the community, it would be best to do it in a non-experimental world.

Toggle Experimental Features in a New World

If you are building a new world from scratch to test experimental features, you can toggle which features you want enabled in the Game Settings.

Under Game settings, navigate down to Experiments and select a toggle to enable the feature.

Image showcasing 4 toggles for experimental features available in Minecraft

When you get the popup asking if you're sure, select Turn on Experiments anyway .

image showing a pop up to confirm if you want ot activate experimental features in Minecraft.

Toggle Experimental Features in an Existing World

If you want to add experimental features to an existing world, open that world's game settings and activate the toggles just like you would for a new world.

A copy of your world will be generated automatically after you activate an experimental feature toggle. You can also manually create copies of your world as an extra precaution, in case something goes wrong.

After you select Activate Experiments , a copy of your existing world will be created. The copy will have the same name as the original world with "Copy of..." added in front of it.

Verify that the World has Experimental Features Enabled

After you've created a world that has an experimental feature toggle enabled, your world will get a tag next to the game mode in your Worlds list that says Experimental .

image showcasing a survival world that has the Experimental tag applied

Another way to identify if your world is using experimental toggles is to visit the settings for your world. In the Game world settings, scroll down to the Experiments section to see which experiments are enabled.

Worlds that use experimental features cannot be restored to a non-experimental state.

How to Turn On Experimental Gameplay in Minecraft PE / Bedrock

  • Matthew Flores
  • Wilson Westwood

This YourGlobalGamer guide contains information on how to turn on experimental gameplay in Minecraft PE and Bedrock.

Experimental gameplay is a feature that is exclusive to Bedrock Edition. However, in Minecraft Java Edition, experimental gameplay is available with separate data packs.

When the feature is enabled, it allows players to test features that are unfinished or are a work in progress that will eventually release to the public in the near future.

Additionally, experimental gameplay is often enabled when players create a new world, but it can also be enabled on pre-existing worlds in the game.

How to Enable Experimental Gameplay on a New World

The first step is to open Minecraft Bedrock Edition and click on Create New World. Then head to the game settings and scroll down until you see the Experiments tab. Then click on Activate Experiments on the prompt.

Also, ensure that you give the world an exciting and memorable name, making it easier to identify later. Go ahead and stop your server.

Despite its possibility, enabling the experimental feature on an existing world can result in the save file becoming extremely corrupted.

The first step is to stop the server and create a backup server. After this, relaunch the game and tap the Edit icon in the relevant world. Go ahead and enable experiments in your world. Doing this will make you create a copy with the experiments being enabled.

Edit icon

Tap on the Edit on the generated copy of the world which has been generated.

After doing this, enable any different experiments you wish to have on your world and click Play. When the world has fully loaded, click on Save and then Quit. Then proceed to upload the world into your server and then restart it.

The server will now be running smoothly with the experiments you have selected.

Android platforms have a beta feature, which players can join anytime. It is also important to note that once players join the beta program, their standard version of the game will be replaced by the beta version.

For players to join the beta version, head to the official Minecraft app in the Google Play Store. Scroll down until you see the Join the Beta option at the bottom (or click this link) . Select the option and tap on Join. Wait for some minutes and then go ahead and launch your Minecraft application. The beta version will appear after a while, and the standard version will now be replaced with the beta one.

Minecraft Beta Version Tester

Additionally, if you wish to leave the beta version after a while, you can head to the Google Play Store and move down to the You’re a Beta Tester option. There, tap on Leave. By doing this, your application will switch back to the standard version.

Players may also be required to activate additional experimental features in the game to test the latest features.

Head to the Create New World or Edit World option to do this. For players who are creating a new world, go to the Game setting and scroll down to the Experiments option, where you will see a toggle for activation.

Activate Experimental Gameplay? Pop-Up

A pop-up will appear that will ask you whether you would like to activate experimental gameplay. Tap on the Activate Experiments option. For players using an existing world, it will create another copy of the world which will have the same name as the original world.

The first step is to head to the Create New World or Edit World setting. When players create a new world, go to the Game setting and move down to Experiments. Click on Activate, and the experimental feature will be activated. If you are using an existing world, activating experimental features will create another copy of the existing world, which will be similar to the original world.

The first step is downloading the Testflight app and installing it on your device. Follow the instructions when the slots are available. When the slots become available, ensure you install the Testflight app and be ready on your device. Go ahead and open the app to see a menu for the game’s preview. Tap on the Accept icon and then choose Install.

After it has finished installing, click Open and then sign in to the game using your Microsoft Account. When you are done, click on Play Preview and then go ahead and activate the experimental features, which is the same procedure similar to Android devices.

Demystifying Vanilla Minecraft: A Thorough Guide

Vanilla Minecraft is the original, unmodified version of Mojang‘s iconic sandbox game. While most active Minecraft servers today rely on plugins and mods to enhance gameplay, vanilla remains popular for its purity and simplicity. Let‘s dig into what exactly vanilla Minecraft entails and why this classic format endures.

What Does "Vanilla" Mean in Minecraft?

When I say "vanilla Minecraft," I‘m referring specifically to the base game, straight from Mojang, without any user-added modifications. Think of it like vanilla ice cream – simple, plain, and unadorned. This means:

  • No installed mods that alter mechanics or add content
  • No plugins for minigames, chat, cosmetics, etc.
  • The default, unaltered textures and resource packs
  • No manipulated world generation or settings
  • Strictly playing with the tools and options within the default game

This is Minecraft at its purest and most basic form. For many veteran players, this vanilla simplicity harkens back to their early days with the game over a decade ago. It represents Minecraft in its original, uncustomized state.

The Vanishing Vanilla Server

In today‘s Minecraft ecosystem, purely vanilla multiplayer servers are actually quite rare. Most active servers run Spigot, Paper, or Bukkit, which add modification capabilities. Some mods like minigame plugins are so ubiquitous that we forget they‘re not in the base game!

According to various server tracking sites like MinecraftServers.org, fewer than 15% of active servers today are vanilla. This represents a steady decline – in 2015 over 50% of tracked servers were still vanilla.

Vanilla server trends

Vanilla server trends over time – source: MinecraftServers.org

Why has vanilla waned in popularity among servers? The simple truth is most players eventually get bored of plain old basic Minecraft. Without the replayability of new game modes, plugins, cosmetics and mechanics, even the best vanilla server will feel stale after a while.

Mods breathe new life into Minecraft and spur creativity. But for some purists, vanilla endures as the ideal "old school" experience.

How Vanilla and Modded Gameplay Compare

Let‘s examine some key differences in gameplay between unmodified vanilla servers and heavily modded ones:

Vanilla Gameplay

  • Survival and building are primary activities
  • Focus on collaborating and community building
  • Gameplay mechanics are predictable and consistent
  • Requires patience and creativity to progress without shortcuts
  • Lower system requirements – runs smooth on most PCs

Modded Gameplay

  • Far more activities like custom minigames
  • Complex magic and technology systems
  • Automation and shortcuts enable rapid progress
  • Unpredictable mechanics and game-breaking items
  • Potential for instability and bugs from mods
  • Much higher system requirements for performance

Neither approach is inherently "better" overall. Vanilla offers a more relaxed, community-driven experience that relies on core game mechanics. Modded servers enable more varied gameplay for those who crave endless novelty.

As a tech geek, I‘m fascinated by complex modded servers and all they make possible. But even I enjoy returning to vanilla periodically as a palette cleanser. There‘s something special about the purity of plain old basic Minecraft.

The Allure of Vanilla Purity

What drives vanilla‘s lasting appeal despite most active servers being heavily modded today? I see a few key social and psychological factors:

Nostalgia – Vanilla evokes fond memories of our first days playing Minecraft. It feels like coming home.

Accessibility – Vanilla is easy for complete newcomers to pick up. Lower barrier to entry retains players.

Publishing – Vanilla is required for inclusion on listing sites like MCSL. Exposure reaches new players.

Unity – Vanilla provides a shared baseline experience all Minecraft fans relate to.

Challenge – Vanilla forces you to innovate within constraints. Unlocking your potential.

Control – The consistency of vanilla physics and mechanics provides a sense of reliability.

The purity of vanilla Minecraft has an intangible charm for certain players. Even those of us who deeply enjoy mods may feel the urge to return "back to basics" temporarily. It cleanses the palate and recenters the Minecraft experience around core pillars of creativity, collaboration, and community.

Vanilla Isn‘t Plain Old Boring Minecraft

When I tell friends I enjoy playing vanilla Minecraft, some assume that means "plain old boring Minecraft." This couldn‘t be further from the truth! Consider these examples of innovation within vanilla:

SciCraft – This prestigious vanilla technical server has pioneered ingeniously efficient farms and contraptions using only default game elements. Their complex redstone machinery pushes vanilla to its limits.

ZipKrowd – Their vanilla Survival multiplayer accomplishments include a Wither cage, max enchanting towers, and even a gold farm in the End dimension! Their team coordination within vanilla constraints is incredible.

EthosLab – This popular YouTuber has meticulously documented his long-running vanilla singleplayer world. Over 470 episodes revealed stunning builds and farms.

Vanilla Minecraft offers near infinite potential for creation and discovery. Having constraints imposed actually forces you to innovate in amazing ways. Don‘t underestimate what‘s possible within the base game!

Uncovering Vanilla Experiments

While vanilla Minecraft may seem static, Mojang is constantly experimenting with new features and changes behind the scenes. Players can get a sneak peek at this work-in-progress content using Vanilla Experiments .

Enabled via the /datapack command, Vanilla Experiments introduce unfinished features and tweaks for testing before their full release. If you enable experiments in an existing world, be sure to back up your saves first in case something breaks!

Some highlights from recent Vanilla Experiments:

  • New bamboo wood type
  • Early archeology system
  • New candle block
  • Changes to mob pathfinding AI
  • Adjustments to ore distribution

Not all experiments make it to official updates unchanged. Mojang wisely iterates based on player feedback before features launch in full. Think of it as a beta test and provide your input!

Java vs. Bedrock: The Best Flavor of Vanilla

Vanilla Minecraft comes in two major editions: Java and Bedrock. Which offers the definitive vanilla experience? Let‘s compare their pros and cons:

Java Edition

  • Allows mods and total customization
  • More robust technical capabilities
  • Tweaks possible via OptiFine
  • Diverse individual servers to join
  • Some players encounter performance issues

Bedrock Edition

  • Designed for accessibility and stability
  • Cross-platform multiplayer support
  • Smoother performance, especially on lower-end PCs
  • Offers vanilla experience across devices
  • Less modding capabilities
  • Mainly limited to featured servers

For me, Java Edition edges out Bedrock for the ultimate vanilla experience due to the freedom to optimize performance via mods like OptiFine and Sodium. Bedrock certainly runs smoother out of the box, but lacks the customizability purists desire.

Regardless of your platform, vanilla Minecraft offers that pure creative joy we fell in love with over a decade ago. In a world with near endless mods, texture packs, and plugins, vanilla‘s simplicity endures as a testament to the game‘s timeless essence.

So don‘t overlook vanilla as just "plain old Minecraft." Lean into its constraints and unlock your true potential as you return to the roots of this legendary game.

Happy mining!
