Water water everywhere, not a drop to drink! The essay on ‘save water’ for classes 1, 2 and 3 is explained in detail. Clean water scarcity is a big problem in the country and affects the lives of many. Water is required for all humans, animals and plants to survive. Out of the 71 per cent covered with water, approximately 3.5 per cent is available for drinking purposes, known as freshwater. Therefore if we do not save these freshwater resources, we will face problems in the future. Polluting rivers by disposing of waste and washing clothes cause water problems. Wondering how to write an essay on saving water? Here are a few points to remember:

  • Explain the importance of water as a natural resource and its uses in our daily lives.
  • Write the examples of water pollution and wastage.
  • Keep the essay simple and short.
  • Make use of pictures or tables wherever necessary.
  • Once the basics are done, encourage your child to write an essay in their own words.

Kids enjoy simple content to read and write. Hence these few lines on saving water will help to write an essay for classes 1 and 2 kids.

  • Water is vital for all living beings to maintain life on earth.
  • It is used for cooking, washing, cleaning, bathing, irrigation, etc.
  • Conserving water is important because we cannot survive without it.
  • Water helps humans to stay hydrated and help fight diseases.
  • Water is used in industries like mining, steel, electricity, food, etc., in large quantities.
  • Lack or shortage of water causes diseases and conditions like drought, hunger, etc.
  • Throwing waste into water causes water pollution and harms fish and other aquatic life.
  • Do not leave the taps open while brushing, shaving, etc.
  • Use water in buckets to conserve water than choosing a shower for bathing.
  • Rainwater harvesting is a good method of preserving water.

A short paragraph on saving water can help children learn the importance and use of water and how important it is to use it carefully.

Water is a natural resource that is essential for living on earth. Without water, the earth would be dry, and plants, animals, and humans would not be able to survive. Additional uses include irrigation, washing clothes, cooking, cleaning, etc. We all know that water is not an unlimited resource, and it is important we do not waste it. Daily practices like leaving the taps open while brushing, shaving, etc., cause water wastage. We should not throw garbage in water bodies because polluted water bodies affect marine life and human health when we consume seafood. Shortage of water causes diseases and damages agriculture too.

A short essay for classes 1, 2 and 3 will help young ones understand the use of water and the importance of conserving it. It will also enhance their writing skills.

Our planet earth is covered with around 71 per cent water. When seen from outer space, it appears blue and is also called the blue planet. Air and water are what make life possible on earth. Plants, animals, and humans need water to survive. Water is necessary for bathing, cooking, irrigation, washing, etc. Industries like mining, petrochemical, electricity, food, etc., rely on large quantities of water for their activities. However, in recent times we use water as it is an unlimited resource. No care is taken to use it judiciously. Discharging industrial and domestic waste in water bodies causes pollution. It affects marine life too. Water scarcity leads to drought and poverty and impacts the nation’s economy badly. Therefore, steps must be taken to conserve water. Rainwater harvesting, reusing water, awareness programs in schools, closing taps after using them, and disposing of wastes in bins are a few steps we can take as responsible citizens to save water. Storing running water in dams, using water cans instead of hosepipes, installing canals on rooftops, and adopting bucket baths instead of showers are small initiatives that significantly save water. Acting responsibly in this matter will benefit the present generations and the generations to come. So, saving water, saving nature, and saving our future generations should be our motto.

The save water essay for class 3 kids seeks to explain the importance of water in our daily lives, why water is essential for the planet and the activities that cause water pollution in recent times. The importance of a water conservation essay is such that children learn about the problems our planet faces and can act towards making the situation better.

What Is Water Conservation?

Water conservation means the practice of using water efficiently wherever possible, thereby minimising its wastage. It includes all steps taken to preserve water bodies, freshwater sources, and our daily requirements without polluting or wasting them.

Necessity And Importance Of Saving Water

Water, as we all know, is a vital resource for the existence of life on earth. Though its supply seems abundant, the percentage of available freshwater is even less. Global warming and constant climate change have led to delayed rains, causing water scarcity. An increase in population, the rapid development of industries and polluted water bodies have further worsened the issue. Without proper conservation efforts, the chances are that we might exhaust it. Saving water has economic and social benefits. Besides, protecting water resources for future efficient use reduces wastage and contributes to energy-efficient operations.

What Are The Different Uses Of Water?

Water is used for a variety of needs, and the major ones are listed below:

  • For daily activities:  Bathing, cleaning, washing, and cooking require water on a daily basis.
  • Industrial uses:  Water is needed in large quantities in mining, food, chemicals, and several other industries.
  • Agricultural needs:  Watering is essential for the survival and growth of plants.
  • Ecosystem balance:  The water cycle is important for rains and the balance of the ecosystem.

Causes And Effects Of Water Shortage

1. Causes of water shortage:  Around 70 per cent of the earth is covered with water, but only 3 per cent of it is available for use. Therefore the availability is limited, and hence careless usage causes a shortage. An increase in population, rapid industrialisation, and climatic changes are major causes of water shortage.

2. Reasons for freshwater storage and how to store it:  The need to keep freshwater stored arises due to careless use in daily activities, pollution of water bodies by dumping sewage, pesticides, chemicals, etc. Rainwater harvesting, installation of canals on rooftops, and utmost care not to waste water during brushing, shaving, and similar activities are a few methods to store it.

3. Effects of water shortage:  Water scarcity causes drought and severely affects agriculture, plants, animals, and human beings. Industrial activities will come to a stop without water and, in the long run, affect the economy as a whole.

What Are The Best Ways To Save Water?

  • Use rainwater for watering plants, laundry, etc.
  • Turn off taps when not in use.
  • Participate in save water save nature programmes.
  • Water plants in the evening to reduce evaporation.
  • Prefer a bucket bath instead of a shower.
  • Check for any leaks in taps.
  • Use washing machines in full loads.
  • Invest in low flush toilets.
  • Be cautious while washing cars.
  • Don’t wash parking areas or garages daily.

The need to save water is at an all-time high, and educating children about its importance contributes a long way. Through this essay, your child will learn how important water is for lives on earth and the problems water shortage can cause. It also introduces them to water conservation and various steps that can be followed to achieve the same. They will learn how to participate in the idea of saving water by taking small steps to conserve water and thereby help preserve the earth.

Water is what makes the earth habitable; therefore, it is our responsibility to use it judiciously. And we should start sensitising our kids about it.

1. Learn about water and why it’s important.

Why is water so important? Learn about water from library books, your teachers, your parents or from the internet. Ask lots of questions!

CLICK HERE for my list of picture books about water for kids :

Some of my favourite water themed picture books for kids are:

  • A Drop Around the World  by Barbara McKinney
  • Drop: An Adventure Through the Water Cycle by Emily Kate Moon
  • Hey Water! by Antoinette Portis
  • One Well: The Story of Water on Earth by Rochelle Strauss
  • The Drop in My Drink  by Meredith Hooper
  • The Little Raindrop by Joanna Gray
  • The Rhythm of the Rain  by Grahame Baker-Smith
  • The Water Princess  by Susan Verde and Georgie Badie
  • Water Can Be by Laura Purdie Salas
  • Water Dance by Thomas Locker
  • Water Is Water: A Book About the Water Cycle by Miranda Paul
  • Water: Up, Down, and All Around  by Natalie M. Rosinsky
  • We Are Water Protectors  by Carole Lindstrom
  • We Need Water by Charles Ghigna

2. Don’t flush the toilet.

“If it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down.” If you haven’t learned this rhyme, then now’s the time (another rhyme!). What this little rhyme means is that when you’re at home, don’t flush the toilet if it’s just pee… otherwise… flush it down!  Parents: Of course, it’s good to remind your kids that when out in public, it’s good manners to flush the toilet regardless of yellow or brown.

3. Re-Wear those clothes.

While I wouldn’t recommend turning your undies inside out, let your clothes get nice and dirty before actually throwing them in the wash. Parents: Show your kids how to check their clothes at night time and re-wear clothes that are still mostly clean.

4. Don’t bathe so much.

Did you know that you only need a bath once or twice a week , unless you’re really dirty (think: covered in mud). I don’t know about you, but my kids would rather not bathe at all. Parents: Fewer baths are not only a water-saving win but a parenting win too!

5. Share your bath.

If you’re too little for showers then have a bath and share your bath water with your siblings, parents or dog.

6. Reuse your bath water for plants.

Don’t let your bath water go down the drain. Scoop it up with buckets and use it to water plants and trees.

7. Take speedy showers.

Showers use way less water than baths. Learn how to take a speedy shower. Parents: Teaching younger kids to take showers can be tricky, but  it can be done .

8. Reuse your towel.

Use the same towel for at least a week. Remember you should be clean after your shower and if you hang your towel to dry it will be ready and waiting.

9. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.

Don’t let the water run while you’re brushing your teeth. Turning off the tap saves a lot of water.

10. Be a leak detective!

Train your ears to pick up the sound of dripping water and become a water saving super heroes by tightening up leaky taps.

11. Help fill the dishwasher.

Dishwashers use less water than washing dishes by hand. Help scrape dishes and fill the dishwasher… and empty it too!

12. Have a special water cup or bottle.

Don’t grab a new cup every time you feel thirsty, instead have a special water cup or bottle that you can refill throughout the day. This way there will be fewer dishes to wash.

13. Fill your cup half-ways.

When you reach for a cup of water, only fill it half-ways to avoid wasting water.

14. Get cold water from the fridge.

Running to tap for cold water is wasteful, instead learn to fill a pitcher with water and cool it in the fridge.

15. Don’t throw out old water.

Don’t waste old water from cups and water bottles by pouring it down the drain. Instead, use it to water plants (inside or outside).

16. Drink water instead of juice.

It takes a lot of water to make juice. Did you now that it takes  200 liters of water to make one glass of orange juice ?

17. Wash your apple in a bowl of water.

Instead of washing your fruits and veggies under running water use a container or bowl filled with water instead. When you’re done use the water for plants.

18. Grow your own food.

Get your parents to stop watering the lawn and use that water for growing things you can eat instead. Growing your own food is a lot of fun and a better way to use water.

19. Give up the water guns.

Water guns are fun but they waste water.

20. Collect rain water.

With the help of a parent, set up a rain water barrel to catch rain water. Plants love rain water.

21. Wash your bike with a bucket and rag.

Save water by using a bucket and a rag to wash your bike instead of spraying it with a bunch of water with the hose.

22. Remember that YOU are a water saver!

Even if you are a kid you can save water just like grown-ups!

Essay on Water Conservation in 100 Words

Water is crucial for all components of life which makes it a necessary resource for day-to-day activities. We use water for domestic activities like cooking, bathing, drinking, washing, etc. So, ultimately the consumption of water is very high. This makes it necessary to conserve water. Just as air, water is also important for life. Besides, water consumption, water pollution, and water scarcity are also some of the major water-related issues that need attention so that we can conserve water.

Every year we celebrate World Water Day on 22 March. This day is celebrated to spread awareness about the importance of water and run campaigns to conserve water on Earth. There are several ways to conserve water such as switching to showers, turning off taps when not in use, don’t pollute water bodies, storing rainwater, etc.

Essay on Water Conservation in 200 Words

Water is one of the Earth’s most precious resources. But the world is facing water scarcity. As per the SDA report 2022, around 2 billion people worldwide are lacking safe drinking water. This means they are more vulnerable to diseases and unhealthy life.

Apart from the increasing population, climatic change is also hampering the quality of water. Floods and Droughts are more frequent due to the vulnerability of climate, thereby increasing the need to conserve water.

Water conservation is vital to meet the growing global demand for fresh water. Water consumption is very high for agriculture, industry, and households. By conserving water, we can ensure that there is a surplus amount of water to use and avoid conflicts over this limited resource.

Water conservation helps to maintain a balance in the ecosystem because every living thing on this planet is directly associated with the use of water. Reducing water consumption reduces the energy footprint associated with water supply.

The best ways of water conservation are rainwater harvesting , installing water plants, reusing water for gardening purposes, turning off taps when not in use, proper irrigation, installing automatic tap shut-off devices, not polluting water sources, and many more.

If we don’t want to witness the world die due to water scarcity then, it’s high time to conserve water and save the planet and future generations.

Water Conservation Essay - Essay on Water Conservation in English

Water, the essential component for life on our planet, is often undervalued. We have become accustomed to simply turning on a tap and expecting it to provide us with an endless supply of freshwater. However, this convenience has caused us to overlook the intricate process that water undergoes before it reaches our homes. As we face the threats of climate change and rapidly growing populations, it is becoming clear that freshwater is a limited resource that we are depleting at an alarming rate.

100 Words Essay on Conservation of Water

Short essay of 200 words on water conservation, 350 word essay on water conservation.

Water Conservation Essay - Essay on Water Conservation in English

Water conservation is important for a sustainable future. Every drop saved contributes to preserving this precious resource. Simple habits, such as turning off taps while not in use, fixing leaks promptly, and collecting rainwater, make a significant impact.

Education and awareness among communities, especially children, play a crucial role. Through small actions and spreading the message, we can ensure the availability of clean water for essential needs while reducing our environmental footprint. Water conservation is a responsibility we all share to safeguard our planet and secure a better future for generations to come.

Water conservation is a crucial practice that every school child should understand and embrace. Water is a finite resource essential for life, and its conservation plays a pivotal role in ensuring a sustainable future. Everyone can contribute to water conservation through simple yet impactful actions.

Firstly, turning off taps when not in use is a fundamental practice. Whether washing hands or brushing teeth, being mindful of water usage can save significant amounts over time. Additionally, fixing leaks promptly is essential to prevent wastage. Children can also participate in collecting rainwater for non-drinking purposes, such as watering plants or cleaning.

Furthermore, raising awareness about water conservation among peers and family members is vital. Schools can organize educational programs, projects, or campaigns to emphasize the importance of water conservation. Children can actively engage in discussions, presentations, or art projects to highlight the significance of preserving water resources.

In conclusion, water conservation is a responsibility that everyone should shoulder whether he is a child or an adult. By adopting water-saving habits and promoting awareness, people can contribute to a sustainable and water-secure future for themselves and generations to come. It is through their collective efforts that we can ensure the availability of clean water for essential needs while respecting the environment.

Crystal clear, life-giving, essential – water is the life of our planet. Yet, despite covering 71% of Earth's surface, only 2.5% is freshwater is available for human consumption. As populations increase and climate change intensifies, securing this precious resource becomes ever more critical.

The harsh truth of water scarcity is that more than 2 billion individuals worldwide do not have access to clean drinking water. If current trends continue, by the year 2025, two-thirds of the global population could experience water scarcity. The effects of climate change are significantly impacting precipitation patterns, resulting in more frequent occurrences of droughts and floods. Furthermore, pollution continues to render vast quantities of water unfit for consumption.

The contamination of water sources, unequal distribution, and unsustainable practices create a situation where millions are left without access to clean drinking water and are made vulnerable. The consequences of this crisis are dire and encompass stunted economies, strained ecosystems, and conflicts arising from the resources.

Failing to take action can have severe repercussions, as lack of access to water can lead to conflicts, displacement of communities, and economic decline. Additionally, it poses a threat to food security by reducing agricultural yields and endangering food production. Poor sanitation and hygiene in areas lacking water can also increase the prevalence of waterborne diseases, putting millions at risk.

Amidst the crisis, a glimmer of hope arises. Every drop of water saved is a victory, sending forth ripples of positive transformation. Simple yet impactful measures such as repairing leaky faucets, reducing shower times, and using water efficiently to care for lawns/cars/etc can greatly contribute to meaningful change. Utilizing rainwater harvesting techniques and investing in water-efficient appliances further magnifies our ability to make a difference.

Beyond individual efforts, systemic solutions are crucial. Investing in efficient infrastructure, promoting sustainable agriculture, and protecting our waterways are essential for long-term water security.

Water conservation is not a burden; it's a shared responsibility, a chance to rewrite the narrative. By embracing mindful practices and advocating for systemic change, we can ensure that every drop nourishes life, sustains communities, and paves the way for a thriving future. Remember, even the smallest actions, like a single raindrop, can spark a wave of positive change. Let's value water, conserve it, and celebrate it as the liquid treasure it truly is.

25 Ways to Get Your Kids Excited About Saving Water

save water essay for kindergarten

Kids aren’t often given enough credit. Although people are quick to point out the youngest generation’s faults, many of them deeply care about big issues such as equality and water conservation.

And if they don’t currently seem to care, their viewpoints can be shaped by what we do as the adult influences in their lives. Here are 25 ways to encourage them to save water .

25 Ways to Help Children Save Water

  • Don’t underestimate them: They can handle hearing about scary topics such as water scarcity.
  • Make it a game: See who can take the fastest shower.
  • Show them other kids making a difference: Greta Thunberg might be a big inspiration to them.
  • Have them reuse towels: Reusing towels in your household might seem like a small act. But cutting down on one load of laundry a week can save 30 to 40 gallons of water.
  • Lead by example: Show them you care and they’ll likely follow suit.
  • Turn off the faucet when brushing teeth: That can save gallons of water over the course of a week, and it’s one of the most painless ways to conserve.
  • Ask them to notify you if they notice a way to improve: Open the lines of communication -- they might have some great ideas.
  • Teach them baths use more water than showers: You both can save the baths for special occasions. Opt for showers most of the time instead.
  • Report leaks and drips as soon as possible: That will allow you to repair them in a timely fashion. Your child may want to watch you repair the leak too, so they can learn a new skill.
  • Have them be responsible for keeping a pitcher of water in the refrigerator at all times: That pitcher of water will always be cold, cutting down on the time you run the sink waiting for a cold glass of water.
  • Teach them to scrape rather than rinse dishes: There is no need to rinse the dishes before placing them in the dishwasher.
  • Teach them to recycle: Recycling saves a lot of water usage. Make it a high priority for your children.
  • Buy them a reusable water bottle: Remind them that every time they carry this with them instead of using a disposable water bottle, they are saving water. Plastic production takes a lot of water.
  • Ask them to be a good example for their younger sibling: Kids want to be someone to look up to. And if they know little eyes are watching them, they’ll double up on their efforts.
  • Have them save energy too: Kids don’t always make the link between saving energy and water. Teach them to shut off the lights and television when they aren’t in use.
  • Show them some YouTube videos about conservation: Kids are drawn to the screen and sometimes those lessons sink in better than the ones we try to teach them.
  • Tell them they don’t always have to flush: It doesn’t hurt anything to not flush your toilet after a child pees in it. Teach them if it’s brown flush it down, if it’s yellow, let it mellow.
  • Have them draw a picture about water conservation: It might be of sad animals looking for water, or of a dry planet. Once they draw the picture, hang it somewhere you’ll all see it. It will become a source of motivation.

save water essay for kindergarten

  • Read a book: A book about the importance of water will help drive home why this issue is vital. A great pick is The Water Princess .
  • Let your child skip some showers: Unless your child is hardcore into playing outdoors or playing sports and they are always sweating, they don’t need a daily bath. Every other day is just fine.
  • Have a water cup designated for all-day use: Kids are notorious for taking one sip of water and then getting a new cup out next time they are thirsty. Have them use one cup all day for their water breaks.
  • Train them to use old water for indoor plants: They can use water leftover from cups around the house to water plants instead of dumping them down the drain.
  • Grow a vegetable garden: That cuts down on water usage for packaging and transporting vegetables to grocery stores. It’s a fun way to conserve water and teach children.
  • Try to lower the water meter usage: This is a tangible way to show your efforts are paying off. Let your children see how much water you’ve saved month to month. Use those monetary savings to do a fun family activity together as a reward.

Don’t Forget: A Little Adds Up

Remember to teach your child that no amount of water saved is insignificant. It can all add up to big savings over time. Together, your family can make a huge difference.

Water Conservation 101: Tips To Save Water For Children

save water essay for kindergarten

Hello, and welcome to the newest episode of Kiki’s Knowledge Corner!

Our beloved home planet Earth has many fond names such as Gaia, Terra, Země, Erde, etc. One of the most popular names used to describe Earth is the ‘blue planet’. It is because about 71% of Earth’s surface is covered in water. This means that Earth has roughly 1,260,000,000,000,000,000,000 litres of water.

That’s a lot of water! Yet, only 3 per cent of all this water is freshwater, and only 1.2 per cent can be used as drinking water.

Over two-thirds of Earth’s freshwater is covered with ice caps and glaciers. It means that even though there is plenty of water on our planet, very little (less than one per cent of the world’s water supply) is available for use. And we use water every single day for brushing our teeth, bathing, cooking delicious food, etc.

That is why, today, we will talk about how to save water .

Simple everyday tips on how to save water

Reducing unnecessary water usage and making better use of the water that is already available is known as water conservation . By saving water, we can make sure that everyone has access to clean water today and in the future. Here are a few tips to reduce water usage and conserve wate r:

Turn off the water tap. One of the very first steps towards the conservation of water is to turn off the water tap when not in use. Remember to do so when you are brushing your teeth, washing your hands, or helping your parents wash the dishes. Also, remember to turn off the water taps that you notice are running for the whole day and not being used at home or even in school.

Bucket bath or shower – what to choose? Most people have a bucket bath with about 50 litres of water, which is about 2 buckets. 50 litres of water is used in 10 minutes also when using a standard shower head. This means that a shower could save more water if you stay within the 9.5 minutes time limit. Next time you shower, time it! Don’t forget to turn off the water tap while applying soap or shampoo in the shower to reduce the wastage of water.

Notify your parents about water leakage . Occasionally, there will be an undiscovered leak in the flush tank. You can find it by asking your parents to put a drop of food colouring or a spoonful of turmeric in the toilet tank to check for leaks. You can track for signs of the same colour around the flush system and find the leak in 30 minutes.

Water the plants at a fixed time. Water your plants in short intervals so that the soil gets ample time to absorb the water. If there is still dampness in the soil, you do not need to water the plants. If you water your plants early in the morning or late in the afternoon, the water will not evaporate before it gets to the roots.

Reuse and recycle. Almost everything requires the use of water to make and then to move to the store. Disposal of things you throw away also needs water. It means that by reusing and recycling things, such as water bottles and paper, you can save virtual water in the long run. Virtual water usage is the water used to make products and services that we use. It is also called indirect water use.

Eat mindfully. The water footprint of food depends on how and where it is grown, whether it is grown with the help of rainwater or with extra water supplied by the farmers, and how much pollution it causes. Pollution is when bad and harmful things are introduced into the environment. Processed food requires much more water to make than fruits and vegetables. For example, processed food like potato chips requires much more water to make and has a higher water footprint than whole potatoes. By eating less processed food and more fruits, vegetables and whole grains like millet, you can save virtual or indirect water and become healthier at the same time.

save water essay for kindergarten

Do note that saving water and reducing our water footprint requires us to make small but meaningful changes in our lifestyle. The water footprint is a measurement that determines how much water was used in the production of each of the products (t-shirts, jeans, etc.) and services (internet, electricity, etc.) that we use every day.

It is difficult to make these changes overnight, so give yourself some time to adjust to the new choices. Take small steps towards reducing your water footprint. All the best!

Paragraph on Save Water

Students are often asked to write a paragraph on Save Water in their schools. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 200-word, and 250-word paragraphs on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

Paragraph on Save Water in 100 Words

Saving water is very important. Water is like a special drink that keeps everything alive: plants, animals, and us! We use water to clean, cook, and to stay hydrated. But if we waste water, there might not be enough for everyone. We can save water by taking shorter showers and turning off the tap while brushing our teeth. Also, if we see a dripping faucet, we should tell an adult to fix it. Remember, every drop counts! By saving water, we make sure there’s enough for fish in rivers and trees in forests, too. Let’s all be water heroes!

Paragraph on Save Water in 200 Words

We can save water in many easy ways. When we brush our teeth, we can turn off the tap instead of letting it run. If we see a dripping tap, we should tell an adult to fix it because a dripping tap can waste lots of water. While taking a bath, using less water is a good idea. We can also collect rainwater to water our plants or clean our bicycles.

Saving water is good for the Earth. It helps to make sure there is enough water for everyone, even the fish in the rivers and the birds that need ponds and lakes. If we all save a little bit of water every day, it adds up to a big difference. So, let’s promise to be careful with water and use it wisely. Remember, every drop counts!

Paragraph on Save Water in 250 Words

Saving water is one of the most important actions we can take to look after our planet. Water is a precious resource, and there’s not an endless amount of it. Even though our Earth is mostly covered in water, only a tiny part of it is fresh and safe to drink. Think about this: every time you turn on the tap, you’re using water that has been cleaned and treated so that it’s healthy for you. That takes a lot of work and energy. So, when we use less water, we also save energy and reduce pollution.

Imagine a day without water. You couldn’t take a shower, quench your thirst, or even flush the toilet. Plants and animals would suffer, and food would be scarce because growing crops needs lots of water too. Every drop counts, so fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, and using a bucket and sponge instead of a hose to clean your bike or car can make a big difference.

Saving water also means that there’s more to go around for farms, wildlife, and other towns, especially during dry periods. By being careful with water, we can make sure everyone has enough, and we help keep rivers, lakes, and wetlands healthy and full of life. Remember, every action you take to save water helps our Earth and everyone living on it. So, let’s all do our bit and use water wisely. Essay on Save Water Save Life

Water is the most important and valuable natural resource on Earth. It sustains all life. There is no life without water. Water is not only important for human beings but for the entire ecosystem. Without enough water, the existence of humans, as well as animals, is next to impossible. After fresh air, water is the second most important natural resource for the survival of any living being.

Water is necessary for the survival of each living creature on this planet, be it a small worm, plant, or full-grown tree.  Animals and plants  cannot survive without water. About 71% of Earth’s surface is covered with water. Unfortunately, only 3% of the water available  is freshwater. About two-thirds of the freshwater lies in the form of frozen glaciers and ice caps. The rest of the small portion is available in the form of groundwater and surface water.

We totally depend on water for multiple purposes. Water is used in agriculture for the irrigation of crops. We use water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, bathing, and other domestic purposes. Water is used for recreational activities. In industries, water is used as a coolant, solvent and also used in other manufacturing purposes. Hydroelectricity is generated with the help of water. Water is also used for navigation and transportation of goods. This tells us how water is the most essential component of life and every drop of water is vital for sustenance. Therefore, water conservation is important to save life on this planet.

Importance of Water:

The basic use of water is drinking, bathing, agriculture, irrigation, hospitality, factories, etc.

Water helps in blood circulation and improves metabolism in the human body

The entire aquatic ecosystem is located in water. It is a home for all the aquatic animals

Water is a major source of transportation after land and air.

Water aids in saliva secretion and oxygen delivery to our bodily cells.

Some countries have abundant water resources for their residents and serve        the people, whereas others lack natural resources even for survival.

Depletion of fresh water has become a threat to our existence. According to some scientists, the quantity and the quality of water are degrading day by day. Although Earth is covered with almost 71% of water, the quality is that we cannot use it in day-to-day life for domestic purposes. Water quality is so poor that people in some places are prone to several water-borne diseases such as Eluru, caused by contaminated water.

These instances are eye-opening examples and should be taken seriously for better living conditions for us and our future generation.

Below are the Reasons for Shortage of Fresh Water:

Growth of population leads to excessive consumption of water.

Daily excessive wastage of water.

The rapid growth of industries has increased the problem of proper disposal of waste material from them. The waste products from these industries contain extremely poisonous elements that are polluting the rivers and other water bodies.

Pesticides and chemical fertilisers that are used to treat crops also pollute the fresh water.

Sewage waste that is dumped into the rivers is making the water unsuitable for drinking and washing causing several water-borne diseases like cholera, jaundice and typhoid.

Use of plastics and disposing them carelessly in the water bodies are affecting aquatic life and further disturbing the entire ecosystem.

Global warming is another major reason for the scarcity of water on earth. According to several types of research, because of global warming, the world will face more stress for water scarcity till the year 2050.

We now need to be aware of the depletion of fresh water and take adequate    measures to stop this.

Saving Water: Need of the Hour

Many places face extreme water scarcity due to extremely bad weather conditions, leading to less rainfall and groundwater depletion. In other parts of the world, groundwater is either unusable or overused. As the world's population is growing, so increase in industries and globalisation, causing groundwater to be overused and resulting in water scarcity.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) data shows that many people on this planet don't have access to clean and fresh drinking water. These situations are becoming worse day by day, and we need an immediate plan to control this situation. Various collective measures have to be taken by every individual on this planet and the government of every country to control water scarcity.

Government should impose some strict rules for the conservation of water. The government and the citizens have to take the initiative to create awareness and promote the “conservation of water.” One such initiative taken by the Modi government in India was “JANSHAKTI FOR JALSHAKTI.” This programme began as a means of working toward a brighter future.

Initiatives taken by Some State Governments:

The Punjab government contributed to saving water resources by avoiding waterlogging and fixing the drain  leakage.

The Rajasthan government has taken the initiative to construct small ponds, which  helped the local people of Rajasthan in many ways.

Villages of Telangana have constructed water tanks to conserve rainwater for future use.

These states are an inspiration, and others should also take a step forward to conserve and clean the water, water bodies, and groundwater.

Water saving should be and is the universal responsibility of every human being, living on this Earth.

There are many ways in which we can save water and reduce their pollution:

Be responsible to save water daily. Use only the required amount of water and avoid wastage. We should use water wisely.

We should use a washing machine to full capacity for washing clothes.

We should not let the tap run while washing hands and face.

We should water plants in the evening or early morning to minimise evaporation.

We should make provisions to store rainwater on rooftops and reuse the water for household purposes.

Bigger Communities and farmers should adapt to the practice of Rainwater harvesting.

The industrial waste should be treated properly instead of dumping it into rivers.

We should stop using plastics and dispose of them in an adequate way.

We can make people aware about water problems by means of social campaigns and other ways.

We should educate our children about water saving from an early age.

Reusing the water is an important way to save and prevent the scarcity of water. Bathing water can be recycled and used for planting or cleaning.

Rainwater harvesting is the method of collecting rainwater and conserving them for future use.

Conservation of groundwater is another important method in the preservation of groundwater and using it in the future.

 Prevention of waterlogging.

We cannot imagine our lives without water. It is unfortunate that mankind has neglected this precious gift from God. Conservation of water is a necessity to save life. All living organisms on this planet need water to survive. If we do not give importance to saving or conservation of water then our future generations will face water scarcity.

Thirsty for Knowledge? Let's Learn About Water!

Do you know how much water a family of four uses every day in the United States? Not 50 gallons, not 100 gallons, but 400 gallons! You could take up to 10 baths with that much water—but who would want to do that? Fortunately, there are many things we can do to save.

Why Save Water

Illustration of Earth.

Did you know that less than 1% of all the water on Earth can be used by people? The rest is salt water (the kind you find in the ocean) or is permanently frozen and we can't drink it, wash with it, or use it to water plants.

As our population grows, more and more people are using up this limited resource. Therefore, it is important that we use our water wisely and not waste it.

Simple Ways to Save Water

There are many simple things we can do to save water. Learn from the water-efficiency hero Flo what you can do today to help protect our water supply!

Turn off the Tap!

Water efficient faucet

Just by turning off the tap while you brush your teeth in the morning and before bedtime, you can save as much as 4 to 8 gallons of water! That could add up to more than 200 gallons a month, enough to fill a huge fish tank that holds 6 small sharks! The same is true when you wash dishes. Turn off the tap! Scrape your dirty dishes into the trash—then put them in the dishwasher.

Shower Power!

Low flow showerhead

Taking a shower uses much less water than filling up a bathtub. A shower only uses 10 to 25 gallons, while a bath takes up to 70 gallons! If you do take a bath, be sure to plug the drain right away and adjust the temperature as you fill the tub. To save even more water, keep your shower under five minutes long—try timing yourself with a clock next time you hop in!

Fix That Leak!

Toilet flusher icon

Fixing a toilet leak is a great way to reduce household water use and boost water conservation. If your toilet has a leak, you could be wasting about 200 gallons of water every day. That would be like flushing your toilet more than 50 times for no reason! Try this experiment: ask your parents to help you test for leaks by placing a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. If the color shows up in the bowl without flushing, you have a leak!

Beat the Heat!

watering can

Watering your yard first thing in the morning is a great first step to water-efficient landscaping.  Avoid watering your yard in the middle of the day.  Watering when it's hot and sunny is wasteful because most of the water evaporates before the plants have time to drink it. Also, when you're helping your parents water the yard, make sure not to water the plants too much—remember that a little sprinkle goes a long way!

Who Needs a Hose?

yellow sponges

An easy way to save water is to use a bucket and sponge when washing cars and bikes. Washing your bike or car with a bucket and sponge instead of a hose saves a lot of water. A hose can waste 6 gallons per minute if you leave it running, but using a bucket and sponge only uses a few gallons! Also, some car washes recycle water instead of letting it run down the sewer drains. Ask your parents to check if a car wash near you recycles water.
