Double spacing refers to the amount of space that shows between the individual lines of your paper. Adding Double Line Spacing to a Word Document

To double-space an entire Microsoft Word document, click Design at the top. Select Paragraph Spacing , and then select Double .

Word 2016/2013/Office 365

• To double-space a specific area of text, highlight the text, click the Line and Paragraph Spacing button on the Home tab (4 horizontal lines with two blue arrows), then select 2.0.

Word 2007/2010

• If you don’t see the line spacing button, it is most likely missing because the window isn’t large enough. You can access it by clicking the arrow button next to the word Paragraph. This will open the Paragraph menu.
• In the Paragraph menu, you can adjust the line spacing using the Line Spacing dropdown menu from the Spacing section.

• Before will add space before the paragraph begins.
• After will add spacing every time you press Enter to start a new paragraph.

• ”Exactly” will allow you to set an exact spacing between lines, measured in points. There are 72 points to an inch.
• ”Multiple” will allow you to set larger spacing, such as triple spacing.

• You can change the spacing of the entire document by selecting all of the text and then adjusting the spacing settings. To quickly select all of the text Press Ctrl + A (PC) or ⌘ Command + A (Mac). This will not affect headers, footers, or text boxes. You will need to select these sections individually to change the spacing in them.

• Select all the text you wish to change the spacing of.
• Press Ctrl + 2 (PC) or ⌘ Command + 2 (Mac). This will give you double spacing.
• Press Ctrl + 5 (PC) or ⌘ Command + 5 (Mac). This will give you 1.5-line spacing.

Stock market today: Indexes rise to kick off the 2nd half as traders look ahead to fresh jobs data

• US stocks ticked higher as traders looked to kick off the second half of the year,
• The market is adding to a strong performance in the first half, with the S&P 500 up 14% year-to-date. 
• Investors are waiting for the June jobs report to roll out on Friday, which could shape the outlook for rate cuts.

US stocks surged on Monday as traders looked ahead to fresh jobs data at the end of the holiday-shortened week.

Major indexes rose to add to gains from the already strong first half of 2024, while bond yields also ticked higher.

Stocks finished off the first half of the year up big, with the S&P 500 up 14% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite up 18%. That's due to bullish expectations for rate cuts in 2024, as well as resilience in the tech sector, with stocks like Nvidia still dominating the market amid continued hype for AI.

The 10-year Treasury yield jumped nine basis points to 4.441%.

Traders are eyeing the June jobs report to roll out on Friday, which should give some insight into the strength of the economy and the outlook for Fed rate cuts this year. Economists expect the economy to have added 190,000 jobs in the last month, down from 272,000 jobs added in May.

"According to the CME FedWatch Tool, there is a 64.3% chance that the Fed will cut rates for the first time in over a year at the September 18 meeting," Art Hogan, the chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth said in a note on Monday.

"We agree with that assumption, as we think the disinflationary trend has accelerated in the second quarter enough to give the Fed the green light."

Chewy stock jumped as retail trader icon Keith Gill disclosed a $245 million stake in the pet care company, founded by the CEO of Gill's other well-known portfolio position, GameStop.

Here's where US indexes stood shortly after the 9:30 a.m. opening bell on Monday:

• S&P 500 : 5,476.43, up 0.28%
• Dow Jones Industrial Average : 39,366.12, up 0.63% (+243.37 points)

Nasdaq composite : 17,760.18, up 0.16%

• The 10-year Treasury yield spiked nine basis points to 4.441%.
• Bitcoin rose 2.24% to $62,770.

Travelers say Qatar Airways has the best business class, thanks to its QSuite with sliding doors and double beds: See inside

• Skytrax has named Qatar Airways the world's best airline for business class for nearly a decade.
• Introduced in 2017, the QSuite sports industry-first double beds and fan-favorite sliding doors.
• Qatar is expected to unveil an updated "QSuite 2.0" later this year.

Every year, the aviation ranking website Skytrax compiles and analyzes thousands of customer satisfaction surveys to determine the best of the best among some 350 airlines .

Qatar Airways stole Singapore Airlines' crown as the 2024 world's best airline this year. It was also named the best airline for business class for the ninth time since 2014.

The win is no surprise given Qatar's reputation for luxury at the front of the plane.

Qatar revolutionized premium flying when it introduced its famous QSuite , its first suite-style business class with fully closing doors. Several cabin layouts are possible, too, including first-of-its-kind double beds and quad-seating.

QSuite was an industry-changing design that raised the bar for premium seating worldwide.

Other airlines, like Air India and British Airways , have since adopted their own hotel-like cabins and multi-person seats.

Still, it appears travelers prefer the original — and Qatar is evolving it even further with the unveiling of its "QSuite 2.0" later this year.

Qatar has equipped all of its Airbus A350-1000s, some of its Airbus A350-900s, and most of its Boeing 777s with the QSuite.

Qatar's narrowbody planes don't have QSuite, nor do its Boeing 787 Dreamliners or Airbus A380s, though the mammoth quad-jets have an inflight lounge and bar.

Without major changes, QSuite wouldn't fit on the narrower Dreamliners , so Qatar created a different version. The 787s sport a 1×2×1 business class with sliding doors and similar soft products but without the QSuite's versatility.

The seat comes with the regularly expected business-class perks, including a giant television, power, gourmet meals, and storage.

QSuite food is rated the region's best, and it won Skytrax's 2024 Best Business Class Onboard Catering in the Middle East award.

Qatar's business class is also staffed with specially-trained flight attendants, though the airline's entire crew earned praise this year for being named the best cabin crew in the Middle East by Skytrax .

Its 1x2x1 configuration means there are no middle seats and every passenger can get up as they wish.

This freedom has become the standard in airline business class, though a few outliers, like Air India and Germany's Lufthansa, still fly some cramped planes without direct aisle access.

The latter, however, has recently introduced a new and improved "Allegris" business class on its widebody planes.

However, the seat is award-winning for its convertible beds, quad-seating, and privacy.

In order, Singapore, All Nippon Airways , Emirates, and Cathay Pacific were the other top five winners behind Qatar.

Delta was number eight, while United was number 17. American didn't make the list.

Qatar's QSuite was the first airline business class with a double bed.

The bed is created by combining two lie-flat seats into one , and closing both privacy doors creates a small pod — making it perfect for families and couples.

Big beds on airplanes are rare, meaning Qatar has a special edge helping it draw in customers willing to pay for the space.

Singapore has refreshed its Airbus A380 business class with seats that combine into a double bed. It also offers double beds in its first-class suite, and Etihad Airways does in its three-room "The Residence."

Cabin designer Ameco was shortlisted for the Crystal Cabin Awards for its concept of a double bed — but as a sleep option for economy.

The QSuite's versatility also draws customers, especially since it uniquely accommodates up to four people in one conjoined space.

Qatar has several seating configurations.

Next to the window, there are front-facing and rear-facing single seats. The center section has double suites and four-person spaces, though they can also be used individually and blocked off by raising a middle divider.

The quad-seating is achieved by dropping the partition between two rear-facing and two front-facing center seats. It's good for families or colleagues traveling together who need to work, meet, dine, play games, or watch a movie together.

This multi-person seating has gained traction, with more business class buddy seats popping up across the industry.

JetBlue Airways has offered a second seat in its Mint Suites for years, while Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic Airways, and German leisure carrier Condor also offer the option.

Air New Zealand is adding a companion seat to its new Business Premier Suites cabin launching next year.

Sliding doors like Qatar's have become the most noticeable new business-class trend.

Doors revolutionized privacy. JetBlue Airways and Delta Air Lines were among the first to offer this feature when their Mint and Delta One suites launched in 2014 and 2017, respectively.

Delta is the only Big 3 airline to offer doors in business class, but American will join once its new door-equipped Flagship Suites debut later this year. United's Polaris business class remains door-free.

Carriers, including Air France, British Airways, All Nippon Airways, and Malaysia Airlines, have all added privacy doors.

The list continues: Air India , Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, and Cathay Pacific Airways have added the perk.

Notably, five-star carriers Singapore and Emirates lack sliding doors in business but offer them in first-class suites.

For US-originating travelers looking for a QSuite, Qatar flies it between Doha and seven cities.

According to Qatar's website , the QSuite flies nonstop to New York-JFK, Chicago O'Hare, Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Washington Dulles, Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Boston.

Two Massive Asteroids Will Fly Past Earth This Week. Here’s What to Know

Within 42 hours of each other, the pair of large asteroids, which both have no chance of impacting our planet, will approach Earth as they orbit the sun

This week, two massive asteroids will pass closely by Earth just days apart—one on Thursday afternoon and one on Saturday morning—in time to ring in World Asteroid Day , celebrated annually on June 30, with a particularly special showing.

Both space rocks have a zero percent chance of hitting our planet, and that should come as a relief: The asteroids are so large that an impact by the first would be civilization-ending, and the second could destroy a city. But their closeness and likelihood of being visible—for those with telescopes—will offer astronomers and citizen scientists an exciting opportunity to catch a glimpse as they fly by.

A gargantuan space rock

At approximately 4:14 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday afternoon, the bigger of the two asteroids—called (415029) 2011 UL21—will pass Earth at a distance more than 17 times farther than our moon, or more than four million miles away. Still, at 7,600 feet long, it is one of the largest space rocks to come that close within the past 125 years.

Discovered in October 2011, the asteroid is larger than 99 percent of near-Earth objects (NEOs), though roughly ten times smaller than the Vredefort asteroid—the largest to ever hit Earth—and about five times smaller than the rock that wiped out the dinosaurs. Its elliptical orbit around the sun is steeply tilted, which is unusual for asteroids of its size, and it completes 11 solar revolutions every 34 Earth years.

As the asteroid passes our planet, the Virtual Telescope Project will stream live programming , so you can witness the rock’s approach wherever you are. If you’d rather spot it yourself, (415029) 2011 UL21 will be visible with small telescopes through Sunday, appearing brightest on Friday, writes EarthSky ’s Eddie Irizarry.

A ‘city-killer’ asteroid

On Saturday morning, at 9:46 a.m. Eastern time, the smaller asteroid named 2024 MK will fly significantly closer to Earth, passing at about three-fourths the distance to the moon. Those with strong binoculars or a telescope might be able to identify the asteroid—which is between 400 and 850 feet long—as it rushes across the sky and appears as a small beacon of light. Those in Hawai’i or South America, astronomers say, will have the best view, though it will also be visible from the southern United States.

“The object will be moving fast, so you have to have some skills to spot it,” Juan Luis Cano , a member of the Planetary Defense Office at the European Space Agency, tells the New York Times ’ Robin George Andrews.

The asteroid is at least double the size of the space rock for which World Asteroid Day was founded—the rock responsible for the 1908 Tunguska event, in which a roughly 160-foot-long asteroid crashed into a remote region of Siberia, wiping out 800 square miles of forest and releasing energy equivalent to 185 Hiroshima bombs .

Each year, astronomers recognize World Asteroid Day on the anniversary of this event. The space-focused holiday is supported by the United Nations to raise public awareness about the hazard of asteroid strikes.

What does this mean for planetary defense?

2024 MK was discovered on June 16—only about two weeks before its closest approach to Earth. This timeline “highlights the ongoing need to improve our ability to detect and monitor potentially hazardous near-Earth objects,” according to a statement from the European Space Agency.

The European Space Agency’s Planetary Defense Office continues to discover and track the passage of asteroids and other NEOs. But “the case of 2024 MK is yet another reminder about the fact that there are a lot of large objects still to be found,” Cano tells the New York Times .

Currently, no known asteroid is on a path to impact Earth within the next 1,000 years . But there will be some close calls, in the near and more distant future. In April 2029, a 1,100-foot-long asteroid named Apophis will fly within 20,000 miles of our planet. And again in 2089, 2011 UL21 will return along its orbit, coming about two and half times closer than its approach on Thursday.
