Case Study: Leading Chip Manufacturing Company
Addressing new engineering challenges with ai and machine learning.
A global manufacturing company teamed up with SCPD for a special project. They needed a tailored educational program for their engineers, a group of professionals who specialize in materials engineering and work with cutting-edge technology. These engineers are always on the lookout for the latest in AI, machine learning, and data science to tackle complex engineering issues.
The Challenge
Harness the power of ai and data science.
The organization wanted their engineers to gain the latest AI skills necessary to launch successful data science initiatives and accelerate the development and deployment of new chip technologies. To make it happen, they sought the expertise of Stanford Engineering faculty, renowned for their leadership in AI and engineering teaching and research.
How the Program Worked
The company handpicked 30 engineers, primarily process engineers with three to five years of experience, along with others eager to implement AI and machine learning practices in their work. The group learned together in a 15-week educational program entitled Harnessing the Power of AI/ML to Address New Engineering Challenges. They attended weekly lectures by Stanford faculty as well as in-person sessions on the corporate campus, gained access to live virtual TA office hours, and completed project work that culminated in capstone presentations. Stanford faculty and the program Academic Directors Andrew Spakowitz, chemical engineering, and Felipe Jornada, materials science engineering, led the charge.
Results and Impact
The results were impressive. These rock star engineers are now well-equipped with cutting-edge AI and machine learning skills, enabling them to confidently tackle new engineering challenges in their field and hit their data science projects and product goals out of the park. What’s more, they earned a well-deserved SCPD Certificate of Achievement.

Café Coffee Day (CCD) founded by VG Siddhartha, the Visionary who brought revolutionary change in the coffee product in Indian market. This study evaluates the CCD on various components such as its growth, journey of V.G. Siddhartha; marketing strategies for its excellent brand image. Besides, it also focuses on some issues related to his suicide. Reasons are not accurate but these reasons had lot of impact on Siddhartha's suicide, such as cash flow position he faced during last one and half year. Some of the reasons are debt trap from some of his employees in the organization, money lenders pressure for their payment of debt before the actual date or a political pressure from IT department or a complex organizational structure. However, these reasons severely disturbed him. His life leaves lot of unclarified questions for every corporate in India, where people have to learn something from his life style.

The astounding growth and expansion of Starbucks is outlined, both on a global scale and within Austra-lia. The focus then shifts to the abrupt closure of three-quarters of the Australian stores in mid 2008. Several reasons for these closures are described and examined, including that: Starbucks overestimated their points of differentiation and the perceived value of their supplementary services; their service standards declined; they ignored some golden rules of international marketing; they expanded too quickly and forced themselves upon an unwilling public; they entered late into a highly competitive market; they failed to communicate the brand; and their business model was unsustainable. Key lessons that may go beyond the specifics of the Starbucks case are the importance of: undertaking market research and taking note of it; thinking globally but acting locally; establishing a differential advantage and then striving to sustain it; not losing sight of what makes a brand successful in the first place; and the necessity of having a sustainable business model.

Stumptown Coffee: The Aesthetics of Taste and Identity

The intent of this thesis is to show how consumer choices are important in signifying consumer identity and how this identity is produced through cultural ideologies, particularly the subcultural ideologies of the hipster and barista. This thesis also works to reveal how Stumptown is paramount in spearheading the third wave with its commitment to defining how one tastes coffee through the language that it uses as well as the culture that it caters to and educates. I will show how Stumptown is changing the perceptions of coffee through both the creation of a brand that signifies a sense of cool as well as demonstrates a responsibility to coffee as commodity. The ideologies that the Stumptown brand signifies dovetail with those of the hipster and creative class, this in turn reinforces the brands identity within the realm of cool.
