Pokemon GO New Year's 2024 - All Research Tasks And Rewards
Pokemon GO developers at Niantic are celebrating the new year with the New Year's 2024 event. New monsters such as the Ribbon Jigglypuff and Ribbon Wigglytuff and their Shiny variants are debuting during the event. Players can also participate in Field Research and a Timed Research quest and get multiple rewards.
The Pokemon GO New Year's 2024 event starts on Monday, January 1, at 10 AM and ends on Wednesday, January 3, at 8 PM Local Time . There are two different Research quests with multiple rewards, and completing them rewards players with featured Pokemon encounters and several in-game items. The Field Research quest is an excellent opportunity to farm Stardust , and the Timed Research quest rewards Stardust, XP, and several PokeCoins. That said, this detailed guide explores all the Field and Timed Research tasks and rewards for the New Year’s 2024 event.

The Pokemon GO New Year’s 2024 Field Research quest comprises 3 tasks with different rewards. There are multiple rewards for completing the tasks, with 2 tasks offering 2 rewards instead of the usual 1 reward for completing each. The rewards include encounters with featured Pokemon like Darumaka , Bronzor, and numerous Stardust.
Pokemon GO New Year's 2024 - All Timed Research Tasks And Rewards
In addition to the Field Research, players can participate in the New Year's 2024 Timed Research quest. The Timed Research offers rewards, including featured Pokemon encounters and Pokemon GO items like PokeCoins , XP, and Stardust. It is a paid Research quest that costs a ticket of US $1.00 or the equivalent price in the players’ local currency. The ticket is available in the in-game shop from January 1, 2024, at 10 AM to January 3, 2024, at 8 PM local time .
Since it is a Timed Research, players must complete the tasks and claim rewards before the event ends on January 3, 2024, at 8 PM local time . One can also purchase the tickets and gift them to Pokemon GO friends of Great Friends or those with higher Friendship levels .
Participants can also take advantage of the different event-exclusive bonuses: 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance for Eggs inside Incubators , and the first three Eggs’ Hatch Distance decreases to 1/4 for using the Egg Hatching widget.
After a test run via an April Fools' joke on Google Maps, Pokemon GO was released to the public in the summer of 2016. The AR mobile app saw unparalleled success and continues to be one of the largest mobile games in the world, pulling in billions for developer Niantic.

Pokémon Go ‘Eggs-pedition Access: January’ research steps, and is it worth it?
Should you buy the month-long ticket?
by Matthew Reynolds and Julia Lee
“Eggs-pedition Access: January” is a ticketed limited timed event during Pokémon Go season “ Timeless Travels” .
For $4.99 , it unlocks a Timed Research that will be available until Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. in your local time .
The Timed Research steps, ticket bonuses, as well as whether or not it may be worth it, is discussed below.
What are the ‘ Eggs-pedition Access: January’ ticket bonuses?
As well as the Timed Research, the ticket also gives you these bonuses until the end of the January:
- 1 single-use Incubator for your first spin of the day
- Triple XP for your first spin and catch of the day
- Gift opening limit increased to 50 per day (up from 20)
- Gift sending limit increased to 150 per day (up from 100)
- Gift storage limit increased to 40 gifts (up from 20)
‘ Eggs-pedition Access: January’ Timed Research quest steps
You have until the end of the month to complete the following Timed Research:
Step 1 of 4
- Catch 30 Pokémon (2,500 XP)
- Catch 15 different species of Pokémon (2,500 XP)
- Transfer 20 Pokémon (2,500 XP)
Rewards : 2,500 XP
Step 2 of 4
- Use 25 berries to help catch Pokémon (2,500 Stardust)
- Send 5 gifts to friends (2,500 Stardust)
- Hatch 3 eggs (2,500 Stardust)
Rewards : 2,500 Stardust
Step 3 of 4
- Earn 25 hearts with your buddy (5,000 XP)
- Open 5 gifts (5,000 XP)
- Catch 20 water- or flying-type Pokémon (5,000 XP)
Rewards : 5,000 XP
Step 4 of 4
- Make 30 curveball throws (5,000 Stardust)
- Explore 5 km (5,000 Stardust)
- Evolve 10 Pokémon (5,000 Stardust)
Rewards : 5,000 Stardust, Togetic encounter
Is the ‘Eggs-pedition Access: January’ ticket worth it?
If you love hatching eggs, then yes — the ticket is worth it for the incubators alone. If you spin a stop every day, you’ll get 31 single-use Incubators , which means you can hatch 31 eggs. 31 single-use Incubators equal about 10 regular Incubators (which are priced at 150 PokéCoins individually, meaning 1500 PokéCoins for 10 Incubators costs approximately $15) making it a good deal for $4.99. You will have to remember to spin a PokéStop every day to make the most of this deal, though.
Meanwhile, the increases in gift storage, sending and sending is particularly useful for players who routinely trade gifts en masse. Regularly opening gifts and levelling friendship is one of the best ways to get XP in Pokémon Go , so if you want to maximize your gains, then this is well worth factoring into the price of the ticket.
Otherwise, if you are buying this for research alone, it offers just a smattering of Stardust, XP, and a single Togetic (which was found regularly in the wild over the recent December Community Day weekend), which are rewards which you will gain through regular play with little effort.

Pokémon Go Taken Treasures field research tasks and rewards
Everything you need to know about the Taken Treasures event!
Taken Treasures sees Team Rocket attempt to take over the world of Pokémon Go yet again.
It marks both a change in Giovanni and the Team Rocket Leader's lineups, as well as the release of Varoom and Revavroom in Pokémon Go . Not to forget the release of Shadow Kyogre, Shadow Ho-Oh's first appearance in Shadow Raids and a selection of new Shadow Pokémon variants. (All far more exciting than Varoom in my opinion. Don't care for Varoom.)
You can also complete the Taken Treasures event-exclusive field research tasks and progress through the final steps of the Timeless Travels Seasonal Research quest .

Taken Treasures field research tasks in Pokémon Go
You can collect event-exclusive field research tasks by spinning PokéStops during the Taken Treasures event in Pokémon Go. While these tasks can be saved and completed after the event ends, you may want to complete the tasks rewarding Mysterious Components during Taken Treasures as this item will come in handy when progressing through the final steps of the Timeless Travels quest.
It's also important to note that Pokémon earned from the field research tasks listed below have a higher chance of being shiny Pokémon compared to those found in the wild. Though not all of their shiny forms have been released.
Here are the Taken Treasures field research tasks in Pokémon Go:
- Catch a Shadow Pokémon reward - 1 Mysterious Component
- Purify 3 Shadow Pokémon reward - 1 Fast or Charged TM
- Defeat a Team Go Rocket Grunt reward - Ekans, Zubat, Koffing, Poochyena or Croagunk encounter
- Defeat 2 Team Go Rocket Grunts reward - Paldean Wooper, Scraggy, Bruxish, Mareanie or Nymble encounter
- Defeat 3 Team Go Rocket Grunts reward - Hisuian Qwilfish or Sableye encounter
Thank you to Amiibofan101 from reddit for the help with the above information.
As Max Out comes to a close in Pokémon Go, the Dual Destiny Season draws closer. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles . First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest . Don't forget to try out Routes , Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon , fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases .
Everything you need to know about the Taken Treasures event in Pokémon Go
Taken Treasures runs until Thursday 1st February at 11:59pm (local time) marks the release of Varoom and Revavroom from Gen 9 in Pokémon Go. (Which I guess is something to be excited about if you like their design. I, personally, do not.) Visit our how to get Varoom guide to learn how to add these engines to your Pokédex. Hint - it has something to do with the changes to the 12km egg pool Taken Treasures has brought.
This event also includes the final updates to the Timeless Travels Seasonal Research quest . Here you'll have to face Giovanni once again who now has Shadow Kyogre on his team, so make sure you have a strong Electric-type in your party. Remember, you have until 10am (local time) on Friday 1st March to claim this research quest and, once claimed, you can complete it whenever you like.
The Team Rocket Leaders have also changed their lineups alongside Giovanni as a new range of Shadow Pokémon have been released:
- Shadow Corphish (can evolve into Shadow Crawdaunt)
- Shadow Snorunt (can evolve into Shadow Glalie or Shadow Froslass)
- Shadow Chimchar (can evolve into Shadow Monferno and Shadow Infernape)
- Shadow Piplup (can evolve into Shadow Prinplup and Shadow Empoleon)
- Shadow Croagunk (can evolve into Shadow Toxicroak)
- Shadow Dwebble (can evolve into Shadow Crustle)
- Shadow Ferroseed (can evolve into Shadow Ferrothorn)
If you're lucky, you find yourself catching a shiny Shadow variant of the above Pokémon.
Since Team Rocket is attempting another Pokémon Go take over, their balloons will be appearing in the sky more frequently and Grunt will be invading more PokéStops. You'll also be able to use a Charged TM to make a Shadow Pokémon forget the Frustration Charged attack.
Taken Treasures also marks the first time Shadow Ho-Oh will be appearing in Shadow Raids - from 6am (local time) on Saturday 27th January to 10pm (local time) on Sunday 28th January.
The following Pokémon will also be appearing in Shadow Raids:
Meanwhile, in regular raids , you'll be able to battle these Pokémon:
Don't forget about the PokéStop Showcases either!
Finally, there is a pay-to-play Timed Research quest available during Taken Treasures. For £4.99, $5 or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency, this quest will reward you with a variety of items, Pokémon encounter and a new animated pose. You must, however, complete it before 11:59pm (local time) on Thursday 1st February or else the rewards will vanish.
This quest is non-refundable and can't be purchased using PokéCoin. It can be gifted to another player if you're Great Friends or higher.
Hope you enjoy the Taken Treasures event!
