The Corporate Law Society of National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur is pleased to announce the 6th Pranita Mehta Memorial Essay Competition, 2022 in memory of Ms. Pranita Mehta, an exceptional student of NLU, Jodhpur.

The Competition is open to all students pursuing under-graduate (three/five year) or post-graduate law degrees from any law school/university/college recognised by the Bar Council of India.

.Pranita excelled in her academic pursuits at NLU, Jodhpur, and was the recipient of numerous awards at international moot court contests.

Pranita, a corporate law aficionado, was also one of the first in her class to get hired by a Tier-1 legal firm in India. She exemplified not only the ideal student, but also the perfect balance of charm and happiness. Pranita, also known as a lively all-rounder, had a profound impact on everyone’s lives as a key source of inspiration and delight.

  • Second Prize:  Rs. 15,000/
  • Third Prize:  Rs 10,000/
  • Publication with JCLG:  The winning essay will also be published in the well-reputed on Corporate Law Governance [JCLG”]. and Journal
  • Internship with IndusLaw:  Top three winners of the Competition will also get the opportunity to intern with IndusLaw.
  • Merit Certificates:  Top ten submissions will also be given merit certificates.

Submission Requirements

  • Only MS Word (.doc/docx) documents will be accepted. No PDF forms will be accepted.
  • Formatting Instructions:
  • Main text font and size, as well as footnote font and size. For the main text, use Times New Roman 12 point, and for footnotes, use Times New Roman 10 point.
  • Size and alignment: A4 size with a 1 inch margin on all sides; all text is justified except headings.
  • Footnoting: The participant must use the same citation style throughout the work.
  • Submissions should be 1.5 spaces apart (except footnotes which may be single spaced).
  • The submission has a word restriction of 2000-3000 words (excluding abstract and footnotes). The abstract should not exceed 300 words.
  • Plagiarism: Any entry found to contain more than 25% plagiarised material will be disqualified from the competition.
  • Anonymity: The participant must not include his or her name in any way in the content of the contribution.
  • Co-authorship: Up to two co-authors are permitted.
  • Any entry that had previously been published will be disqualified. CLS retains the copyright of the contribution.
  • In the event of a conflict, CLS will have the ultimate say on the guidelines.
  • If a participant is submitting an assignment/project that has already been submitted to their university’s Turnitin repository, CLS demands that the participant send the Turnitin report indicating that the plagiarism percentage is less than 25%.
  • It is not necessary to pay a registration fee to enter the competition.

An epitome of excellence and diligence, Ms. Pranita Mehta was an outstanding student of NLUJ (Batch of 2017). She had been a part of the CLS since its inception and was associated with the Society as an Advisor in 2016. In addition to leading a formidable academic career both at school and university, she was second to none when it came to extracurricular activities. Throughout her time in NLUJ, Pranita performed exceptionally well in her academic endeavours as well as at various international moot court competitions. Pranita, a corporate law enthusiast, was also amongst the first ones in her batch to get recruited by one of India’s Tier-1 law firms. The Centre for Studies in Banking and Finance (“ CSBF ”), National Law University, Jodhpur was established by the Reserve Bank of India in 2002 to provide a venue for scholars and practitioners to exchange views on banking and financial systems through its various undertakings and activities.

About the Essay Writing Competition 2022

CSBF is inviting submissions for the “4th NLUJ CSBF Essay Writing Competition, 2023” in association with JSA, Eastern Book Company (EBC) and SCC Online.

Acquisition financing in India: What are the changes required in the regulatory landscape to make it more successful?

Is “exclusive” security truly exclusive under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code: a critical review of the current law and caselaw.

Role of Alternative Investment Funds in providing liquidity to the Indian market and the changes required in their regulatory framework to improve their impact.

Integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations in the investment decisions of lenders in India, including the potential for ESG factors to impact credit performance.

Evaluation of Sale of Assets of Corporate Debtor under the IBC in light of introduction to Regulation 36B(6A) of the CIRP Regulations.

Are Asset Reconstruction Companies playing a role in actual revival of stressed assets or are they looking at their returns? First Prize: INR 30,000/- and a merit certificate;

Second Prize: INR 25,000/- and a merit certificate;

Third Prize: INR 15,000/- and a merit certificate;

Certificates of Special Mentions to the Fourth and Fifth best entries.

The authors of the top five entries will be considered for an internship at JSA.

The top five entries will be considered for publication on the CSBF blog.

The winning entries will also be published on SCC Online Blog.

One year access cards to EBC Learning will be given to the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth best entries.

Submission Guidelines

The first page of the submission should only contain the title of the paper, followed by the 200 word abstract.

The second page must contain a table of contents, and the main body of the manuscript should begin immediately thereafter.

The word limit for the essay is 3500 words. The word limit is exclusive of the footnotes.

All the submissions must be an original and unpublished work of the author(s). All the submissions will be checked for plagiarism and those with plagiarism percentage over the permissible limit (i.e., 20%) will be summarily rejected.

Disclosure of information regarding the identity of the author(s), including, but not limited to name, institutional assistance, professional details, etc., within the body of the manuscript or other properties of the document submitted is strictly prohibited. Any violation of the anonymity requirement will lead to disqualification of the manuscript for the purposes of the competition.

Formatting Guidelines: Garamond; Size 12; Justified; 1.5 Spacing. Footnoting Guidelines: Garamond; Size 10; Justified; 1 spacing.

The participants are required to submit their manuscript ONLY by filling out the Google Form.

Citation Guidelines

The authorities must be cited in the form of footnotes.

Citations must follow a uniform format of citation throughout the submission.

The participants are required to provide the title of the name of the author, article/report/blog, date of publication, and active web-link for the authorities cited wherever possible.

In case of large documents such as reports, long articles, cases, etc. the author(s) must include the relevant paragraph/page of the authority being cited.

Speaking/explanatory citations are discouraged.

Competition Guidelines:

A co-authorship of not more than two (2) authors is permitted.

By submitting the article, the author(s) forfeit their copyright over their manuscript in favor of the organizers.

In case of any dispute, the decision of the organizers will be final and binding. The Centre retains absolute discretion in marking the manuscripts.

The Centre for Studies in Banking and Finance (“CSBF”), National Law University, Jodhpur is inviting submissions for the “ T HIRD NLUJ CSBF ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION, 2022” in association with JSA as their intellectual partner and Eastern Book Company (EBC) and SCC Online as their knowledge and research partners.

The Centre for Studies in Banking and Finance (“CSBF”), National Law University, Jodhpur was established by the Reserve Bank of India in 2002 to provide a venue for scholars and practitioners to exchange views on banking and financial systems through its various undertakings and activities. The Centre seeks to promote vibrancy and increase intellectual participation in the banking sector, capital markets, and other sectors related to financial services.

[A] Future of Alternative Investment Funds: New Investment Market and Corporate Governance Competitor

Eligibility

All students pursuing under-graduate (three/five year courses) or postgraduate law degrees from any law school/university/college recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate in the Competition.

Submission Guidelines

1. The first page of the submission should only contain the title of the paper, followed by the 200 word abstract.

The second page must contain a table of contents, and the main body of the manuscript should begin immediately thereafter.

2. The word limit for the essay is 3500 words. The word limit is exclusive of the footnotes.

3. All the submissions must be an original and unpublished work of the author(s). All the submissions will be checked for plagiarism and those with plagiarism percentage over the permissible limit (i.e., 20%) will be summarily rejected.

4. Disclosure of information regarding the identity of the author(s), including, but not limited to name, institutional assistance, professional details, etc., within the body of the manuscript or other properties of the document submitted is strictly prohibited. Any violation of the anonymity requirement will lead to disqualification of the manuscript for the purposes of the competition.

5. Formatting Guidelines: Garamond; Size 12; Justified; 1.5 Spacing. Footnoting Guidelines: Garamond; Size 10; Justified; 1 spacing.

6. The participants are required to submit their manuscript ONLY by filling out the Google Form. The form can be accessed by clicking here . The link to our form would also be available on our official website: csbfnluj.wordpress.com

Citation Guidelines

1. The authorities must be cited in the form of footnotes.

2. Citations must follow a uniform format of citation throughout the submission.

3. The participants are required to provide the title of the name of the author, article/report/blog, date of publication, and active web-link for the authorities cited wherever possible.

4. In case of large documents such as reports, long articles, cases, etc. the author(s) must include the relevant paragraph/page of the authority being cited.

5. Speaking/explanatory citations are discouraged.

Competition Guidelines

1. A co-authorship of not more than two (2) authors is permitted.

2. By submitting the article, the author(s) forfeit their copyright over their manuscript in favor of the organizers.

3. In case of any dispute, the decision of the organizers will be final and binding. The Centre retains absolute discretion in marking the manuscripts.

Tentative dates of announcement of results: first week of May, 2022

[A] First Prize: ₹25,000 /- and a merit certificate.

[B] Second Prize: ₹20,000/- and a merit certificate.

[D] Certificate for special mention to the fourth and fifth best entry.

[E] The authors of the top five entries will be considered for an internship at JSA.

[F] The top five entries will be considered for publication on the CSBF blog.

About the Competition

Centre for Studies in Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Law & Policy is organizing a Writing Competition on Practices Demonstrating Conservation and Sustainable Use of Environment during COVID-19.

The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic spread rapidly throughout the world and country after country responded with lockdowns which, according to UNESCO, has made around 1.5 billion students globally remain at home.

Coming in the backdrop of the World Nature Conservation Day (July 28), the aim of the competition is to support and reward innovative ideas and practices relating to engagement with nature during this pandemic.

Who can Participate

The competition is open to all law students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various Indian Universities/Institutes/Colleges.

How to Participate

Each participant/Group (not more than five) to submit a write-up of 2000 words along with necessary photographs elaborating on points which include the following:

  • Ideas and practices about your own engagement with nature during this pandemic.
  • The benefits of such practice for the environment.
  • The write-up along with photographs has to be mailed to  [email protected] on or before 8th August 2020.

Each entry shall pay a registration amount of Rs. 500  [for Link ,  click here] here at ‘Payment Other than Semester Fee’ specifying the purpose of payment as  “CSENRLP Writing Competition August 2020”.

  • J. Sagar Associates will consider the authors of the best entries for an internship opportunity with the firm;
  • The best five entries will also receive a one-year subscription to EBC Learning and SCC Online; and
  • The best five entries will be considered for publication on the CSBF Blog.

The Gary B. Born National Essay Writing Competition on International Arbitration

The Essay competition is being organised by National Law University, Jodhpur Centre for Advanced Research & Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL) and Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL).

This competition seeks to encourage law students to study the feasability of the BAT Model, and address continuing concerns of the desirability of arbitration of public law claims, and whether the UNCITRAL Model Law can thereby be re-amended, keeping in mind the developments of the last decade. The competition has the gracious support and patronage of Mr. Gary B. Born himself, who is currently also the President of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre’s Court of Arbitration and an expert in international arbitration in his own right, having participated in more than 600 international arbitrations, including four of the largest ICC arbitrations and several of the most significant ad hoc arbitrations in recent history.

  • The “Born” Bilateral Arbitration Treaty Proposal: The Way Forward.
  • Privatisation of “Justice Delivery”: Desirability and Propriety of Arbitrating Public Law Claims.
  • The UNCITRAL Model Law: Suggestions for a Second Amendment / 10 Year Review Of The UNCITRAL Model Law.

RULES/GUIDELINES:

  • The competition is only open for students enrolled in a 5 year integrated undergraduate law degree programme or a 3 year LL.B. degree programme, recognized by the Bar Council of India.
  • To participate in the competition, interested students shall submit a soft copy of their completed essay on or before July 31, 2016, 23:55hrs at [email protected] .
  • No hard copy submissions are required.
  • The essay must contain an Abstract, not exceeding the limit of 250 words.
  • Co-authorship is not permitted.
  • The essays must not exceed a total of 7000 words (Excluding footnotes. However descriptive footnotes and substantive text in the footnotes is not permitted).
  • The top three essays shall be conferred with, Cash Prizes, Letter of Appreciation from Mr. Born and an opportunity of publication in the next IJAL Issue.
  • All the participants will be awarded ‘Certificate of Participation’.
