Using PowerPoint Presentations With Smart Board Interactive Whiteboards

Smart Boards (or SMART Boards) are interactive boards which come with software that allows presenting interactive class lectures with touchscreen support. You can present your content, including PowerPoint slides with on-screen annotations and write or erase content from the board using your hands, pen and various objects. Let’s take a look at an overview of what Smart Boards have to offer for teachers and students.

Smart Boards

What is a SMART Board?

SMART Boards are interactive whiteboards which are perfect for classroom lectures. You can engage your students, present content interactively, run PowerPoint slides, highlight and annotate board with a virtual pen and use your hands to make use of touchscreen features. Smart Boards have different models and associated software, such as the SMART Board 800 and Smart Board M600 white boards, the SMART Board 4000 and SMART Board 6000 Series Interactive Flat Panels and the SMART kapp Digital Capture Board .

The Smart Notebook and the Smart kapp iQ software make collaboration and interactive class lectures easy. Similarly, the LightRaise Interactive Projector is another fine Smart Tech device tied to Smart Boards.

Collaborate on a SMART Board

To find out more about the various SMART Boards, see this developer’s video.

Three Main Features of a SMART Board

Smart Board is quite easy to use. It has three primary features:

  • Touch Recognition: The Smart Boards are interactive whiteboards with touchscreen support which allow you to write with a pen, use a finger to navigate your content and even use a palm to erase the board.
  • Pen Tray: The Pen tray works like a chalkboard. You can simply pick a colored pen and write with it on the board. You can also use the board with other objects.
  • Smart Notebook Software: This interactive white board software lets you make use of powerful tools and readymade lesson activities. With the various tools that accompany this software you can present presentations and class lectures with interactivity.

The below video shows just how easy it is to use a Smart Board and how you as a teacher can make good use of it.

Using PowerPoint with a SMART Board

As mentioned earlier, you can also use PowerPoint with Smart Boards. You can open a PowerPoint file, highlight key points using the pen tray and make use of the touchscreen to touch and present slides interactively.
