The 8 Best Presentation Laser Pointers

Presentation laser pointers come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Whether you are a professional or just starting out, this review will help you get the device that matches your presentation needs. These are the eight best presentation laser pointers.

The Best Presentation Laser Pointer

Kensington k72427ama expert presentation laser pointer.

The Kensington Expert K72427AMA has all the features you need for a laser pointer. It also comes with the perfect balance of price and the features that make an impact on a presentation.

The USB receiver stays connected for up to 150 feet, and it also serves as an SD card reader. You can keep your presentation on an SD card, plug it into any computer, and the Kensington Expert K72427AMA will do all the configuration for you.

We like the design of this pointer because it is comfortable, and the contours make it feel natural while in your hands. The Kensington Expert K72427AMA has backlit buttons and built-in joystick for mouse control, making it easy to navigate through your slideshow. Although it has a bit of a learning curve, these navigation features gave us better control while presenting.

The Kensington Expert K72427AMA is an excellent tool for professionals who want to make effective presentations without veering into the premium side of laser pointers.

Logitech Spotlight Presentation Digital Pointer

If you are feeling a little extravagant or want to take your presentations to the next level, then the Logitech Spotlight will bring out the master presenter in you. It has a premium look with premium features, and it is the most advanced presentation pointer we have seen.

Of all the laser pointers we tested, the Logitech Spotlight is the only one that gave us the  wow factor.  It goes beyond what we thought was possible for a presentation tool. Logitech ditched the traditional laser pointer in exchange for the ability to highlight or magnify specific details on the screen. It also gave us full control during presentations. We were able to open links, play videos, and manage everything using smart gestures.

This device has a Smart Time Management feature that lets you keep track of the time spent on your presentation. You can configure the Logitech Spotlight to vibrate five minutes before your closing so that you can wrap things up, and another when your time is up.

The features of the Logitech Spotlight redefine presentation, but it comes at a fairly high price. Still, it’s worth it if you want to take your presentations and style to the next level.

Canon PR10-G Presentation Laser Pointer

If you’re looking for a pointer that you can use even in bright auditoriums, then the Canon PR10-G Laser Pointer is the best that you can get. It is not the most feature-packed nor the one that gives the best value, but it has an excellent balance of interaction, usability, and reliability.

The PR10-G Presentation Laser Pointer uses a green laser light that Canon claims to be eight times more visible than traditional red lasers. We tried it for ourselves, and it is more visible, even at a distance of 100 feet from the screen and the USB receiver.

This device has an LCD for the timer, signal strength, and battery. You can also set vibration alerts at predetermined times to remind you when to start wrapping things up and start closing your presentation. We like how Canon designed the navigation controls on the PR10-G Laser Pointer, and it’s just right where the thumb rests while holding the device. Although the grip could have been better by having a bit more contour, it still feels nice to hold with just enough heft to it.

A lot of presentation laser pointers offer too many features, trying to be too many things at the same time. The Canon PR10-G, on the other hand, lets you focus on presenting by having the navigation controls right where you need them to be. It may not be the most affordable option, but it is one of the few devices that lets you get in the zone and have the best presentation every time.

Red Star Tec PR-820 Presentation Laser Pointer

As a wireless mouse and a laser pointer at the same time, the Red Star Tec PR-820 Presentation Laser Pointer will let you have full control over the laptop even from a distance of 50 feet. It has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get used to it, you will be able to interact with your presentation seamlessly.

This model can be very tricky and overwhelming to use, with 15 buttons all at your fingertips. These buttons include mouse control, volume, navigation, and action buttons. However, there is no other pointer in its price range that came close to the level of interaction that it can offer. Whatever you can do with a real mouse, you can do with the Red Star Tec PR-820.

This laser pointer is compatible with PowerPoint and Keynote, without pairing or configurations. You only need to plug the USB receiver into any regular or mini laptop , and you already have full control. The design feels natural and comfortable even during long presentations. The buttons are rubbery, similar to the ones you have on remote controls, which can be an acquired taste.

The Red Star Tec PR-820 may not have the best user experience, and it requires a bit of a learning curve. However, it is one of the few pointers that can offer full control, not only with the presentation but the whole computer as well. If you are looking for more than just a laser pointer with basic functionality, this device is worth considering.

DinoFire (Black & Green) Presentation Laser Pointer

DinoFire Presentation Laser Pointer is the slimmest device on this list, about the same size as a permanent marker. Still, it is powerful enough to control your presentations from 300 feet away. Pointers should be portable, and DinoFire took it to the next level without compromising its performance in other areas.

This device is a plug-and-play laser pointer that will let you open links, control the volume, switch to different applications, page up and down, and enable full-screen mode. It can support several applications, including MS PowerPoint, Word & Excel, Google Slides, ACDSee, iWork Numbers & Pages, Keynote, and Prezi.

The bright green laser light makes it easy to highlight details on your presentation even in bright auditoriums, but it diminishes when used on LCD. It runs on a 360 mAh lithium-ion battery that takes 60 minutes to charge, and it has a battery indicator function, so you will never go to a presentation with a low battery.

If you are looking for a slim pointer that you can slip into your pocket, the DinoFire Presentation Laser Pointer is your best choice. The grip may not be preferable for some, but it is the best slim laser pointer in terms of features, connectivity, and compatibility.

BlueBeach Presentation Laser Pointer

If you want a device that will help you deliver the message without breaking the bank, the BlueBeach Presentation Laser Pointer is the best that you can buy. It doesn’t have the fancy features that you can use for your presentation, but this is the best pointer that you can buy for less than $15.

This model uses a red laser pointer with buttons that will help you navigate through your slide. You can also do basic tasks to enhance your presentation like page up and down, darken the screen, and escape or resume. It stays connected to the receiver for up to 30 feet, but it gets sluggish. We recommend that you only use the BlueBeach Presentation Laser Pointer if you are presenting in classrooms or small group meetings.

One thing that we love about this pointer is the design. The contours are perfect. It feels natural in hand and is lightweight.

There’s nothing that makes the BlueBeach Presentation Laser Pointer stand out, but it will help you deliver outstanding presentations on a budget.

Be sure to browse our list of these reliable mini portable projectors and find the right one for your next presentation.

Amerteer Presentation Laser Pointer

The Amerteer Presentation Laser Pointer may be compact, but it offers unique design elements. This pointer is the smallest that we have tried, and it is the easiest to hold. You don’t have to worry about its grip or handle because it has an adjustable rubberized finger ring design where you slip your index finger through. This smart design implementation gave us the most natural and comfortable feel while holding a laser pointer.

This device has five buttons that are all within your thumb’s reach. These buttons will allow you to navigate through the presentation, launch or end the slideshow, open a black screen, and activate the red laser pointer. It is straightforward and feels so natural that I noticed my fingers still in the same position even after I removed this device.

This laser pointer works well even if the clicker is 100 feet away from the receiver, allowing you to engage with a large audience. It is compatible with both Windows and Mac, and it supports the most popular presentation apps.

This product is in the same category as the BlueBeach Laser Pointer but with very different design implementation. If you are looking for a budget-friendly and compact laser pointer, the Amerteer is an excellent option for you. The smart design implemented on this device will let you focus more on the presentation rather than what you have in your hands.

Kensington K33374USB Presentation Laser Pointer

The Kensington K33374USB Presentation Laser Pointer is our pick for the best grip and usability. Although other pointers offer a nice grip, the contours on this pointer feel very natural. We like the surface of this pointer because it provides a bit of resistance, making it the best laser pointer for people with sweaty palms.

This device has four equally spaced buttons that protrude from the surface, making it easy to use even without looking. The Kensington K33374USB Presentation Laser Pointer has the most straightforward navigation buttons that we have seen in a laser pointer. The navigation buttons include previous/next slide, laser pointer, and start/launch slideshow. There is almost no learning curve, so you can begin presenting like a pro as soon as you start using it.

This laser pointer works on both Windows and Mac from a distance of 65 feet. The red light laser works well even when used in bright rooms, but it is not as visible on LCD. The USB receiver delivers 2.4GHz of wireless connection, but it is quite bulky. Although it has dedicated storage inside the device, we still prefer a smaller USB receiver.

There is no other laser pointer that is more straightforward and as comfortable as the Kensington K33374USB. It is very reliable and never lost its connection throughout the entire two-hour test that we did. These attributes make it the best laser pointer for first-time users.

PowerPoint’s hidden laser pointer (and how to use it)

  • January 19, 2024

Did you know that PowerPoint includes a free (hidden) laser pointer option that you can use without having to buy one? Even if you have a differetn pointer you like to use, this built in pointer is a great backup whenever you need it. It also comes in three colors too (red, green, and blue).

The laser pointer in PowerPoint can be red, blue, or green.

Take your PPT skills to the next level

Why is a pointer useful during a powerpoint presentation.

A laser pointer is useful for highlighting or pointing out exactly what you want your audience to focus during your presentation. In other words, instead of trying to verbally tell somewhere where to look on your slide, you use your pointer to point it out.

For example, if you want to bring attention to the 100% year-on-year growth on your slide, you can simply use PowerPoint’s laser pointer to point it out on your slide.

Example using the red pointer color in PowerPoint to point something out during a PowerPoint presentation.

The more content you have on your slide, the more useful it is to point out what you are talking about with your laser pointer.

In the same way, you could use it to highlight:

  • Different rows in a table
  • The different people on your team (as you talk about them)
  • Ideas for a marketing campaign as you highlight them

In short, a laser pointer allows you to better control the ebb and flow of your presentation, by pointing things out on screen while you talk about them.

While there are probably a million different laser pointers you can use, the one I use most is the hidden laser pointer in PowerPoint. Read on to see how to use it.

How to change your cursor into a laser pointer

There are two different ways to turn your cursor into a laser pointer in PowerPoint. The first is using your mouse, the second is the laser pointer shortcut. Let’s start with your mouse first.

The advantage of this first technique is it locks the laser pointer, so you don’t have to hold any keys down on your computer. On top of that, once you turn it on using your mouse like this, the laser pointer remains on as you advance through your presentation. So you don’t have to turn it on for every slide.

In slide show mode, right click your slide, select Pointer Options, then click Laster Pointer to turn your mouse cursor into a laster pointer.

To turn your mouse cursor into a laser pointer during your PowerPoint presentation, simply:

  • Hit F5 to start your Slide Show ( see my guide here for other slide show shortcuts )
  • Right-click your slide
  • Open the Pointer Options
  • Select Laser pointer

Doing so, your mouse cursor becomes a colored pointer that you can drag around on your screen to highlight things in your presentation as pictured below.

NOTE: You cannot change the color of the pointer while giving a presentation. If you want a different color, you need to change its color before you run your presentation

Example of the red pointer in PowerPoint during a presentation. The red color works well for white slide backgrounds.

Turning off the laser pointer

To exit out of the laser pointer in PowerPoint, hit the Esc key on your keyboard.

There are two ways to turn the laser pointer off in PowerPoint. The first is simply to hit the Esc key on your keyboard. Hitting Esc, the laser pointer reverts back to the normal mouse cursor.

You can turn the laser pointer on by using the Arrow Options in the right-click menu to make your cursor visible again. This is an alternative method to hitting the Esc key on your keyboard.

An alternative way to turn the laser pointer off, is simply to change it into something else. You can do that as follows:

  • Right-click your slide in Slide Show view
  • Select Pointer Options
  • Select Arrow Options (or choose Pen or Highlighter)
  • Select Visible

Selecting  Visible  turns your mouse cursor back into the normal PowerPoint arrow cursor.

Laser pointer shortcuts

My favorite way to use the laser pen is simply to use its shortcut. That’s becuase using shortcuts make everything easier in PowerPoint AND saves you a ton of time.

NOTE: If you want to learn all the best PowerPoint shortcuts and tricks, they are all inside our PowerPoint Pro Membership here .

laser pointer in a presentation

To use this shortcut, simply hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard, then click and drag with your mouse. Doing so turns your cursor into the laser pointer color you have selected (red is the default).

When you are done, simply let go of the Ctrl key and the pointer disappears. This is a fast and easy way to highlight things in your presentation on the fly and impress your clients and colleagues.

I personally find this to be the fastest way to turn the laser pointer on and off. In the picture below, you can see what the blue laser pointer looks like in PowerPoint.

Example of the blue colored pointer in PowerPoint during a presentation.

You can alternatively lock the laser pointer by hitting Ctrl + L on your keyboard. This locks the laser pointer, so you don’t have to hold down anything on your keyboard (like with the previous shortcut).

To lock the laser pointer using your keyboard in slide show mode, hit control plus L on your keyboard.

To unlock the pointer when you are done with it, simply hit the Esc key to return to the normal mouse cursor.

How to change the laser pointer color

PowerPoint has three different laser pointer colors you can choose from in PowerPoint. Red is the default color, but you can easily change its color to green or blue.

By default, the the PowerPoint pointer is red, but you can easily it to green or blue if you want to, through the Set Up Slide Show  dialog box.

Just be aware that you need to set the color before you run your presentation.

laser pointer in a presentation

  • Click the  Slide Show  tab
  • Select the  Set Up Slide Show  command
  • Open the  Laser Pointer Color  options
  • Choose a color (red, green, or blue)

QUESTION: Does changing the laser pointer color change it’s color for all my presentations?

The color you choose for your pointer is saved in the PowerPoint presentation you changed it for. It is not set as the new default color for all your PowerPoint presentations. So, feel free to change your pointer color to best match the template / presentation you are working with.

By default, PowerPoint always starts with a red laser pointer. So unless you need a color other than red, you do not need to worry about changing it.

Does the pointer work when presenting two presentations at the same time?

Example of the laser pointer working when presenting two PowerPoint presentations side-by-side.

The answer is yes (as you can see pictured above).

For example, if you are running an English and Chinese version version of your presentation at the same time for two different audiences (which is what we did all the time when I was living in China), the laser pointer still works in each presentation.

The catch is, you need to use the laser pointer shortcut (discussed above), and make sure you click into each presentation before you use it. To see how to set up two presentations to run at the same time as pictured above, see my guide here .

Why bother changing the pointer color?

The most important reason to change the color of your pointer, is so that it stands out against your slide background.

Notice in the picture below, how much clearer the green laser pointer is against the red slide background, than the red one is. If your audience cannot see the color against your slide background, then using the laser pointer is meaningless.

Example of low contrast, with a red pointer on a red background, versus high contrast, the green pointer on a red background.

The same would be true if you were using a blue or green presentation background.

In short, you want a high contrast between your pointer color and the PowerPoint background color you are using for your presentation. That way your audience can clearly see what you are trying show them.

So that’s how to use PowerPoint’s built-in laser pointer and change its color between red, green and blue to have high contrast against your presentation.

This is one of those cool PowerPoint features that few people know how to use. And now that you know how to use it, you can take advantage of it during your presentations.

Best Presentation Laser Pointers In 2022

laser pointer in a presentation

A great presentation, whether informal or informal, hinges on certain important factors, key among which is the attention of your audience. To fully get the attention of an audience for any presentation you have planned, it is important to coordinate the information in such a manner that gives you enough flexibility and room to deliver it in a professional manner. One key tool you would need is a presentation laser pointer. Even though they have been around for quite a while, many people find it quite difficult to use laser pointers, partly due to inadequate information and complexity of some models. It can change slides (forwards and backwards), toggle full screen, and make the screen go to black. On top of that, it has a powerful laser that can be seen from 328 feet away and is designed to show up clearly on a screen or presentation background. If you’ve got a big presentation coming up, this is the tool you need. And afterwards, it makes a great toy to play with your cats.

Presentation Laser Pointer Buying Guide

How we chose our selection of presentation laser pointer.

Reviews - Recommending a list of best products for any customer is a tough task that takes rigorous research and product tests. Our team does more than that in settling on the best for our readers. We cull our best laser pointer list from random reviews on top shopping sites worldwide. Our reviews are judged using procedures that ensure our final choices are what our reviewer truly say they are.

Price - Price is also a key determinant in finalizing our top picks for laser pens. With many similar products offering a range of features and functions for the average buyer, we consider products that function well yet cost relatively less. Our list of best laser presenters is among the most affordable you may find out there.

Features To Look For In Presentation Laser Pointer

Connectivity - When looking to select a good laser presenter to buy, you should pay attention to how well the device connects, taking into consideration the range for connectivity as well as compatibility with popular systems. Most laser presenters can easily connect with PCs, Macs or Android devices, and it's important to get one that can connect to most, as it gives you versatility.

Laser Strength - Another key factor to look out for is the laser strength. Generally, most laser pointers have strong laser lights for pointing and work really well. Some devices, however, have weaker lasers when the user moves away from the connected device. For smaller presentations within shorter distances, you may want to select a product that has a weaker laser strength.

Laser Color - Different types of laser pointers come with different laser colors. There are red, green, blue and yellow yellow-coloredpointers, and it will be worth your while to decide on which color best suits you and can capture your audience’s attention whilst you present. There is a direct connection between a laser color and its wavelength. Another factor to consider is whether the color of the laser may not conflict with the color of the room you intend to use it for.

a presentation laser pointer

Battery - Whilst most laser pointers come with chargeable batteries for extended use, it is important to select those that can last after fully charged. Some powerful laser pointers, when fully charged can last for days without running down. You may want to look at some of the products we have recommended as most of them have similar battery systems and require just one hour of charging.

Range - The range of a laser pen is key for any intended use. After all, the whole idea of having a wireless laser presenter tool is just so you can still work with it from a distance. Some laser presenters are able to remain connected within shorter distances, with some ranging between 39 and 50 feet for smaller room presentations and up to over 300 feet for larger halls and rooms. Depending on the intended use, you need to consider the range that suits you best in order to make a purchasing decision.

Use - Of course, you want to use a wireless laser presenter device for wireless presentations, but with innovation today, some models are able to do more than the basic slide changing, with some laser presenters having click functions as well as volume adjustment functions for presentations. Whatever your intended use, most products out there, like the ones we have listed have functions that would make it use easy for you and your audience.

A good laser pointer can be a surprisingly versatile little tool - you can use it to elevate any presentation you might have to make, letting you point to specific data without needing to generalise or make big gestures, for example, as well as easily changing between slides.

Equally, it can be a fun little toy to play with (provided you keep it away from your eyes at all costs!), and can be great for playing with pets who'll lock onto it like a target. We've gathered a few of the best pointers you can buy right now - check them out right here.

DinssrFire Presentation Clicker Laser Pointer

Our guide to the best laser pointer to buy today.

A great pick

Great for professional use.

This simple, business-like laser pointer is perfect for the board room or home office, and has clear controls to let you move through a presentation.

There's a handy USB dongle to quickly pair it to your computer, and a huge range means you don't even have to be near your device for it to work.

Good alternative

Another very solid pointer.

This laser pointer is a great alternative that's similarly aimed at professionals for presentation purposes. It's pen-shaped meaning that it can easily slip into a pocket or bag.

You get controls for your presentation and the all-important laser pointer is clear and powerful without being too risky for safety.

Solid option

Excellent for use in presentations.

This pointer looks much like the one above, and offers many of the same features including presentation controls, a red laser pointer and its own dongle for connections.

It's simple and easy to use, and comfortable to hold as well, and the dongle makes it easy to pair and gives solid range.

TMMDH Cat Toy

Great for fun

Great for pets, and lacking in connectivity for simpler use.

If you want something that has a little more fun to offer up, this pack of three pointers is perfect. It has three colours - red, green and purple, meaning that you can swap them out as you like.

It doesn't have any connectivity or smart features, and keeps things simple with just the laser to point, and that makes it great for pet owners who want to distract their furry friends for some playtime.

A nicely shaped laser inter from a brand that you can usually count on.

Nothing says you're in control more than bringing your own laser pointer into a presentation. And that's exactly what the Logitech Wireless Presenter R400 is made for.

While Logitech says that it will work with all presentation programs, some may be more compatible than others.

One thing we really like about this laser pointer is its ergonomic shape. So many others are just a slender stick-like design, but this fits nicely in the hand.

ESYWEN Laser Pointer

Easy on the wallet

Simple, accessible, and budget-friendly.

You don't need to go out and spend all your money to get a solid laser pointer for presentations. The ESYWEN Laser Pointer is a perfect example of this, with a super budget friendly price.

It has a good range of about 82 feet for its 2.4GHz connection. Some may use it simply as a toy for their pets even. And for this price, it's no wonder. The simple buttons make it even more accessible.

WORD GX Adjustable Focus Blue LED

Strong blue laser

Super powerful laser pinter that can be used for fun nighttime outdoor activities. Though responsibility is required.

Some laser pointers are made a bit more powerful than others. The WORD GX Adjustable Focus Blue LED is one such, and not an example you'd want to hold a presentation with.

It's great fun at nighttime with its various patterns. And you can even use it to start your camp fire if you like. But be aware that it is extremely powerful and shouldn't be pointed at anyone at any time.

A slim laser pointer with a long range.

The Presentation Clicker Laser Pointer is slim and handy, offering 100ft of range through its 2.4GHz connection.

This pretty much means that no matter how big the room is, you'll have a connection to the screen to flip through your slides. It's also got great compatibility for a wide range of apps.

One issue might be the button layout, which can take some getting used to.

Why it’s illegal to shine laser pointers at aircraft

Keep your lasers to cats and school presentations.

Dane Kelly , Digital Content Producer

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – Michigan State Police are reminding residents to not shine lasers at aircraft.

The warning comes after troopers arrested someone in Grosse Pointe Park after they reportedly shined a laser at a Michigan State Police helicopter Monday, June 24.

Footage of the incident can be watched in the video player above.

Aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft has been a federal crime since 2012 .

Your eyes become significantly more sensitive to light in dark environments and a laser pointer could potentially flashblind or incapacitate a pilot . Even if the sight damage is temporary, having someone experiencing issues with their vision piloting an aircraft is a safety hazard to people inside and outside the aircraft.

Additionally, a beam can bounce off the windshield and cause the cockpit to experience bright flashes, similar to a camera flash . Even a weak beam can be a distraction to the crew , causing glare or disorientation.

Lasers directed at aircraft have resulted in some municipalities restricting access to laser pointers .

On a federal level, shining a laser at an aircraft can result in penalties of up to $11,000 per violation . On a state level, it can be punished by up to five years in jail and a $10,000 fine .

The aim behind this work is the development of a new laser illuminator for scene lighting that combines seven low-cost green laser pointers with an average power of 53 mW for each one. This laser illuminator presents several advantages: it is cheap, efficient, and portable, and it can produce clear images at long distances in the active laser illumination domain. We have used computer aided design tools like TracePro©and Solidworks©softwares to optimize both the optical design and mechanical parts. In order to collimate the resulting beam and minimize its divergence, a light guide with different shapes was used. The performed simulations indicate that the cylindrical cone light guide gives better performance of the laser illuminator. The proposed design results in 342 mW overall optical power with an optical-optical efficiency of 92.06 \(\%\) , a beam divergence of 7.33 mrad , a beam diameter of 5.31 mm and an \(M^2\) quality factor of 28.68. The experimental results were almost reliable with the TracePro©simulation and finally the developed illuminator laser was tested in imaging application case.
