McKinsey Report on Education
McKinsey Report on Education — A recent report on education by consulting firm McKinsey finds that the quality of teachers affects student performance more than any other factor. What are we doing in the U.S. to attract and train the best teachers? Guests include Carlos Garcia, superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District; Catherine Lewis, distinguished research fellow in education at Mills College and author of "Educating Hearts and Minds: Reflections on Japanese Preschool and Elementary Education"; Alan Miller, English teacher at Berkeley High School and former vice president of the Berkeley Federation of Teachers; and Tim Daly, president of the New Teacher Project.

Some 75 million young people around the world are unemployed, yet most employers say they cannot find enough qualified candidates for entry-level jobs. What skills will help young people find work, and what is the most effective way of delivering them? The newMcKinsey report finds that employers, education providers, and young people live in parallel universes with dramatically different perspectives and little engagement. The report draws on a survey of some 8,500 stakeholders in 9 countries, as well as an analysis of more than 100 education-to-employment approaches across 35 countries.
