What did the experiments by Hammerling on Acetabularia prove?

Acetabularia : it is a unicellular green alga (uninucleate). experiments on acetabularia by hammerling proved the role of the nucleus in heredity. hammerling’s experiment included the exchange of stalk and rhizoid. hammerling proved the existence of heritable data in the nucleous on acetabularia – single-celled algae. this experiment demonstrated that the nucleus contains genetic information and controls development . the experiment also proved the existence of morphogenetic substances..

The various species of the genus Acetabularia are the best known members of the family Dasycladaceae because of their extensive use as research objects in the fields of developmental biology, molecular biology and cytology. These cells combine a number of unique characteristics which make them particularly well suited for use in these fields. These characteristics include their abnormally large size, their pronounced morphogenetic capabilities and the fact that they are able to survive for long periods following such operations as enucleation and transplantation of nucleus-containing cell fragments.

Experiments on Acetabularia by Hammerling proved the role of Nucleus in heredity Cytoplasm in controlling differentiation Chromosomes in heredity Nucleo-cytoplasmic ratio

Acetabularia cell is composed of three segments: the "rhizoid" or base which contains the nucleus, the "stalk," and the "cap." in his experiments, hammerling grafted the stalk of one species of acetabularia onto the rhizoid of another species. in all cases, the cap that eventually developed on the grafted cell matched the species of the rhizoid rather than that of the stalk. this experiment shows that the base is responsible for the type of cap that grows. the nucleus that contains genetic information is in the base, so the nucleus directs cellular development and controls heredity. so, the correct option is 'nucleus in heredity'..

  1. Experiments on Acetabularia by Hammerling proved the role of

Acetabularia cell is composed of three segments: the "rhizoid" or base which contains the nucleus, the "stalk," and the "cap."; In his experiments, Hammerling grafted the stalk of one species of Acetabularia onto the rhizoid of another species. In all cases, the cap that eventually developed on the grafted cell matched the species of the rhizoid rather than that of the stalk.

  2. Hammerling's Acetabularia grafting experiment

Hammering's grafting experiment using Acetabularia cleared all speculations and confirmed the role of nucleus in heredity. His experimental material Acetabularia is a large single celled, uni-nucleate alga. The algal body is ~6cm long and consists of a foot, a stalk and a cap (largest unicelled organism).

  4. Joachim Hämmerling

Hämmerling began growing Acetabularia in laboratories in the 1930s. [2] [3]There he discovered that the plant had one cell and the nucleus was always located in the rhizoid. [3] Then he began studying the roles of the nucleus and cytoplasm by experimenting with the Acetabularia. [4]In 1938 while working at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biology, Hämmerling received a grant through a ...

  5. Significance of nucleus : Hammerling's experiment

    J. Hammerling, a German biologist, demonstrated in 1934 that the nucleus determines the characters of the cell and ultimately the characters of the individual. He conducted certain experiments using two species of a green alga, Acetabularia. The two species, namely A. crenulata and A. mediterranea used in this experiment differ in the shape of their caps.

  6. What did the experiments by Hammerling on Acetabularia prove?

Acetabularia: It is a unicellular green alga (uninucleate).. Experiments on Acetabularia by Hammerling proved the role of the nucleus in heredity.; Hammerling's experiment included the exchange of stalk and rhizoid. Hammerling proved the existence of heritable data in the nucleous on Acetabularia - single-celled algae.; This experiment demonstrated that the nucleus contains genetic ...
