హిందీలో ఒక్క సినిమా చేయ‌క‌పోయినా పాన్ ఇండియా స్థాయిలో క్రేజ్‌ని సొంతం చేసుకున్నారు విజ‌య్ దేవ‌ర‌కొండ‌ (Vijay devarakonda). ఆయ‌న్ని ‘లైగ‌ర్‌’(Liger Review)తో పాన్ ఇండియా స్థాయిలో ప‌రిచ‌యం చేస్తున్నారు పూరి జ‌గ‌న్నాథ్‌. ఈ క‌ల‌యికే ఒక ప్ర‌త్యేకం అనుకుంటే... ఇందులో బాక్సింగ్ దిగ్గ‌జం మైక్ టైస‌న్ న‌టించ‌డం మ‌రో ప్ర‌త్యేక‌త.  కొన్నాళ్లుగా దేశ‌మంతా ‘లైగ‌ర్’ ప్ర‌చార హోరు కొన‌సాగింది. ప్ర‌చార చిత్రాలు ఆక‌ట్టుకున్నాయి, అంచ‌నాల్ని రేకెత్తించాయి. పాన్ ఇండియా సినిమాల హంగామా కొన‌సాగుతున్న ఈ ద‌శ‌లో ప్రేక్ష‌కుల ముందుకొచ్చిన ‘లైగ‌ర్‌’ (Liger Review) ఎలా ఉందో తెలుసుకునే ముందు క‌థేమిటో చూద్దాం..!

క‌థేంటంటే: మిక్స్‌డ్ మార్ష‌ల్ ఆర్ట్స్ (ఎమ్‌.ఎమ్‌.ఎ)లో త‌న కొడుకు లైగ‌ర్ (విజ‌య్ దేవ‌ర‌కొండ)ని  జాతీయ ఛాంపియ‌న్‌గా చూడాల‌నేది బాలామ‌ణి (ర‌మ్య‌కృష్ణ) కోరిక‌.  త‌న భ‌ర్త కూడా ఫైట‌రే. అందుకే త‌న క‌ల కోసం క‌రీంన‌గ‌ర్ నుంచి ముంబై చేరుకుంటుంది. త‌న కొడుకుతో క‌లిసి ఓ టీస్టాల్ పెడుతుంది. జీవితంలో క‌ల నెర‌వేర్చుకోవాలంటే అమ్మాయిల జోలికి వెళ్ల‌కూడ‌ద‌ని బాలామ‌ణి త‌న కొడుకుకి చెబుతుంటుంది. కానీ,  తానియా (అన‌న్య‌ పాండే)తో ప్రేమ‌లో ప‌డ‌తాడు. ఆ అమ్మాయి మాత్రం లైగ‌ర్‌కి న‌త్తి ఉంద‌ని తెలిసి దూర‌మ‌వుతుంది. ప్రేమ‌లో ప‌డి విఫ‌లమైన లైగ‌ర్ త‌న క‌లని నెర‌వేర్చుకున్నాడా?  లేదా?  లైగ‌ర్ లాస్ వేగాస్‌కి ఎందుకు వెళ్లాల్సి వచ్చిందనేది  మిగ‌తా క‌థ‌.

ఎలా ఉందంటే: ఓ సాధార‌ణ ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌కి మిక్స్‌డ్ మార్ష‌ల్ ఆర్ట్స్ నేప‌థ్యాన్ని జోడించి తెర‌కెక్కించిన సినిమా ఇది (Liger Review).  కానీ, ఈ సినిమా ఎక్కువ‌గా ఎమ్.ఎమ్‌.ఎ క‌థ‌గానే ప్ర‌చార‌మైంది. ఆ నేప‌థ్యానికి త‌గ్గ సీరియ‌స్‌నెస్ ఎక్క‌డా క‌నిపించ‌దు. అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా కొన్ని స‌న్నివేశాలు మ‌రీ కామెడీగా అనిపిస్తాయి. ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌లోనైనా బలం, కొత్త‌ద‌నం ఉందా అంటే అదీ లేదు.  లైగ‌ర్‌, తానియా  ఒక‌రికొక‌రు ప‌రిచ‌య‌మైన విధానం, వాళ్లు ప్రేమ‌లో ప‌డ‌టం, ఆ త‌ర్వాత విడిపోవ‌డం... ఎందులోనూ సంఘ‌ర్షణ క‌నిపించ‌దు. క‌థ ఏ ద‌శ‌లోనూ ఆస‌క్తి రేకెత్తించ‌దు. ప్ర‌తీ స‌న్నివేశం ప్రేక్ష‌కుడి ఊహ‌కు త‌గ్గ‌ట్టుగా సాగుతుంది. విజ‌య్‌ని తెర‌పై చూపించిన విధానం మాత్రం మెప్పిస్తుంది.  ప్ర‌తినాయ‌కుడు, క‌థానాయిక స‌హా మిగ‌తా పాత్ర‌లేవీ మెప్పించ‌వు. ర‌మ్య‌కృష్ణ పాత్ర ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధం వ‌ర‌కు ఫర్వాలేదు అనిపించినా, ద్వితీయార్ధంలో మ‌రీ నాట‌కీయంగా అనిపిస్తుంది. హీరో  అమెరికాలో ఫైట్ చేస్తుంటే, ఆమె టీవీ చూస్తూ అరుస్తూ, హీరోని ఎంకరేజ్ చేస్తుంటుంది. వాస్త‌విక‌త‌కి దూరంగా ఉండే అలాంటి స‌న్నివేశాలు ద్వితీయార్ధంలో బోలెడ‌న్ని. పూరి జ‌గ‌న్నాథ్ బ‌లం ర‌చ‌న‌. హీరో పాత్ర‌ని రాసే విధానం, వాళ్ల‌తో ప‌లికించే డైలాగులు సినిమాల‌కి ప్ర‌ధాన ఆక‌ర్ష‌ణ‌గా (Liger Review) నిలుస్తుంటాయి.

కానీ, ఈ సినిమాలో  హీరోని న‌త్తి స‌మ‌స్య ఉన్న యువ‌కుడిగా చూపించేయ‌డంతో, పూరి త‌న చేతులు తానే క‌ట్టేసుకుని ఎమ్‌.ఎమ్‌.ఎ ఫైట్ చేయ‌డానికి రింగ్‌లోకి దిగిన‌ట్టైంది. కొత్త‌ద‌నం లేక‌పోయినా ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధం వ‌ర‌కు ప‌ర్వాలేద‌నిపించినా, ద్వితీయార్ధంలో సినిమా గాడి త‌ప్పింది. హీరో జాతీయ ఛాంపియ‌న్ అయ్యాక, ఇంట‌ర్నేష‌న‌ల్ పోటీల కోసం ప‌డే సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ, స్పాన్స‌ర్‌షిప్ వ్య‌వ‌హారం త‌దిత‌ర స‌న్నివేశాలు ప‌ర‌మ సాదాసీదాగా అనిపిస్తాయి. ప్రీ క్లైమాక్స్‌లో ఫైట్ వ‌ర‌కు ఇది స్పోర్ట్స్ సినిమా అని గుర్తు చేస్తుంది. ప్ర‌చారంలో భాగంగా ముంబై వెళ్లిన‌ప్పుడు అక్క‌డ  మైక్ టైస‌న్ ఎవ‌ర‌ని అడిగార‌ని, వికీపీడియాలో తెలుసుకుని సినిమాకి ర‌మ్మ‌ని చెప్పాన‌న్నారు  పూరి. కానీ, మైక్ టైస‌న్ ఎవ‌రో తెలుసుకోకుండా ఈ సినిమా చూడ‌ట‌మే మేల‌నిపిస్తుంది. క్లైమాక్స్‌లో ఫైట్ చూశాక‌. విజ‌య్‌కీ,  మైక్ టైస‌న్‌కీ మ‌ధ్య స‌న్నివేశాల్ని టైస‌న్ గురించి తెలిసిన ప్రేక్ష‌కులు జీర్ణించుకోవ‌డం క‌ష్ట‌మే.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: విజ‌య్ దేవ‌ర‌కొండ న‌ట‌న మెప్పిస్తుంది. లైగ‌ర్ పాత్ర కోసం త‌నని తాను తీర్చిదిద్దుకున్న విధానం, న‌త్తి ఉన్న యువ‌కుడిగా త‌ను క‌నిపించిన తీరు ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాల్లో అత‌ని క‌ష్టం స్ప‌ష్టంగా క‌నిపిస్తుంది. ర‌మ్య‌కృష్ణ పాత్ర ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధం వ‌ర‌కు ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. అన‌న్య పాండే అందంగా క‌నిపించింది కానీ, ఆమె పాత్ర సినిమాపై పెద్ద‌గా ప్ర‌భావం చూపించ‌దు. రోనిత్ రాయ్ కోచ్‌గా మెప్పిస్తాడు. విషు, చంకీ పాండే, అలీ, గెట‌ప్ శ్రీను పాత్ర‌ల ప‌రిధి మేర‌కు న‌టించారు. సాంకేతికంగా కెమెరా విభాగం త‌ప్ప మ‌రేదీ పెద్ద‌గా ప్ర‌భావం చూపించ‌లేదు. సంగీతం ఓకే అనిపిస్తుంది. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడిగా పూరి జ‌గ‌న్నాథ్ అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా మాత్ర‌మే త‌న మార్క్‌ని ప్ర‌ద‌ర్శించారు. నిర్మాణ విలువ‌లు  ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉన్నాయి.

Liger Review: Knock Out Punch For Audience

“Liger” has created tremendous hype. The combination of director Puri Jagannadh and young sensation Vijay Deverakonda has occupied the media and social media space lately. Boxing legend Mike Tyson’s presence is another reason.

Besides big-ticket movies like “RRR”, “Radhe Shyam” and “KGF”, this pan-Indian film has also created buzz nationwide. Let’s find out whether the film lives up to the hype.

Story: Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) and his mother Balamani (Ramya Krishna) move to Mumbai from Karimnagar.

Balamani aims to see his son become a champion in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) as her husband died without realizing his dream of winning a title in a boxing championship.

The mother and son run a chai shop in Mumbai for a living and Liger gets trained under an MMA guru (Ronit Roy). 

A rich girl Tanya (Ananya Panday) loves him and this romance changes his life altogether.

Will he become a champion or will he land in trouble due to his love story?

Artistes’ Performances: If you take away Vijay Deverakonda from the scene, nothing holds. Such a magnetic power he has in this film. He underwent a stunning makeover and developed a terrific body to play the role of ‘Liger’. While the stuttering act is not always perfect, his sincerity and hard work are praiseworthy. However, the script doesn’t give him anything to go beyond the surface. 

Ramya Krishna’s role as a spirited mother lacks enough material. Despite that, the senior actress gives what is required. Ananya Panday plays a typical heroine’s role.

Boxing legend Mike Tyson makes an appearance in the climax part. But the role Puri has written for him is half-baked.

Getup Seenu, Ali, and Ronit Roy do an okay job. Vishu Reddy does justice to his role.

Technical Excellence: The film is made on a lavish scale. The Las Vegas sequences and the production values have brought the film a rich look. Vishnu Sharma’s cinematography is top-class.

“Coka 2.0” and “Aafat” are beautiful on screen but both come in the wrong places in the film. Puri’s trademark dialogues are effective here and there.

Analysis The career of Puri Jagannadh, the director of many sensational blockbusters, lacks consistency. “Liger” seemed to be the opportunity to return to his glory days of “Pokiri”. With the scale of the movie (a pan-Indian project with Karan Johar joining hands) and a rising star in the lead role, the hype it generated gave the perfect vehicle for him to show his stamp. But, it turns out to be a wasted effort as “Liger” looks like an exercise with no proper script.

The film has a Mumbai setting. Had Puri written a story as bulky as Vadapav, it would have been different. But the storyline is as thin as a paper dosa. More than the story, the film doesn’t have a strong conflict or high emotional quotient, or a strong villain, the essential elements for mass movies. Puri Jagannadh’s script writing is not at all good here.

The idea of a protagonist with a stammering problem is irritating. The USP of this actor is his dialogue delivery. Director made a colossal mistake by thwarting his strength with this disability to the character. Moreover, this deficiency in the hero hardly makes any difference to the main story.

Puri Jagannadh begins this film as an inspirational story of a rise of a champion from a humble background. But midway, he cuts to the routine love story. The main goal gets lost in the melee. At a point it appears as if written by an amateur writer but not Puri Jagannath. So shocking! 

The so-called MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fights and sequences, which come one after the other, make a tiresome watch. Despite naming it MMA, the fights are similar to many boxing dramas. No difference! The film and the fights don’t provide a high.

The film further goes downhill when the story shifts to Las Vegas.  Things turn awkward as poor scenes are written to introduce the character of boxing legend Mike Tyson. A lengthy fight scene with lady fighters is another misstep. Thus, the final act completely goes wrong and becomes pointless. A legend like Tyson should have given better scenes.

Despite Vijay Deverakonda’s hard work, Puri wastes the golden opportunity to get pan-Indian fame.

Overall, “Liger” neither delivers a knockout punch nor does it offer thundering moments. It only proves that Puri Jagannadh is yet to come to his old form despite delivering 'iSmart Shakar' recently.

Bottom line: Bo..Bo..Bo..Boring

LIGER MOVIE REVIEW CLICK TO RATE THE MOVIE

Liger is a film written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, and produced by Karan Johar, Puri Jagannadh, and Charmme Kaur under the banners Dharma Productions and Puri Connects. It features Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Pandey in the lead roles while Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy and others play crucial supporting roles. The film also has Mike Tyson in a cameo.

Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) is a martial arts fighter who wants to become the National Mixed Martial Arts champion, something his father failed to achieve. He joins an academy in Mumbai and trains hard but is distracted by his love interest Tanya (Ananya Pandey). After winning the event, his aim is to take part in UFC. How he manages to achieve this dream forms the rest of the plot.

For a sports drama like Liger to work, the film has to show us how the protagonist learns a sport, the downfall, the difficulties in achieving a goal, the emotional battles, what is at stake and more. However, this film misses these details. For a very long time you keep wondering what the film is trying to convey because it meanders around aimlessly.

Right from the hero introduction fight, Liger's character is invincible. Even the relationship between him and his mentor isn't established properly. The training sessions are just a few montages of Liger working out in a gym. Neither is the relationship between Liger and his mother or his girlfriend shown properly.

The film has plenty of songs and each of them are huge speed breakers for an already weak screenplay. Another issue is that all the songs are identical with respect to the mood and have no relevance to the plot whatsoever. For instance, there's a scene where Vijay Deverakonda is scolded heavily by his coach and mother for going behind Ananya Pandey, and he also regrets his actions. Immediately the scene cuts to a peppy love song.

The only saving grace of the film is Vijay Deverakonda's performance which reminds us of his role in Arjun Reddy. He really shines in the fight sequences, especially towards the climax. Ananya Pandey's role lacks any meat and only comes to life during the songs. Mike Tyson's inclusion in the pre-climax and climax scenes looked wasted and he could have been used far better.

The stunt choreography is also quite stylish and has been shot well. Except the stunts, the camerawork and the music don't offer much to the film. The cinematography is unstable, with the camera moving around without a purpose, and the music is too loud. In a few places, the music gives us cues on how to react to the proceedings on screen.

Overall, the film is average technically and below par when it comes to writing. A lot of scenes look inspired from other movies, and are predictable. This affects the engagement of the film badly. A lot could have been better, but if you're a Vijay Deverakonda fan, Liger is a strict one time watch for you. For the rest, there are literally no factors that redeem the film at any point.

టాలీవుడ్‌లో అదిరిపోయే డైలాగ్స్ .. మంచి స్క్రీన్ ప్లేతో కథను పరిగెత్తించే డైరెక్టర్ ఎవరైనా ఉన్నారంటే.. పూరీ జగన్నాథ్‌ పేరే ముందుగా చెప్పుకొంటారు. ఇక హిట్టు, ఫ్లాప్ అనే విషయంతో సంబంధం లేకుండా ఈ మధ్య అద్భుతమైన ఫెర్ఫార్మెన్స్‌తో ఆకట్టుకొంటున్న హీరో విజయ్ దేవరకొండ. ఈ ఇద్దరు కాంబినేషన్‌లో వస్తున్న సినిమాకు లైగర్ అని పేరు పెట్టగానే ప్రేక్షకుల్లో భారీ అంచనాలు పెరిగాయి. ఇక ప్రమోషన్స్‌తో సినిమాపై విజయ్ దేవరకొండ మరో లెవెల్‌కు తీసుకెళ్లాడు. ఇలాంటి అంశాలతో ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చిన లైగర్ చిత్రం ప్రేక్షకులకు ఎలాంటి అనుభూతిని పంచింది? పూరీ జగన్నాథ్ మళ్లీ సత్తా చాటాడా అనే విషయాల్లోకి వెళితే..

లైగర్ సినిమా కథేంటంటే?

కరీంనగర్‌కు చెందిన బాలమణి (రమ్యకృష్ణ) తన కొడుకు లైగర్‌ (విజయ్ దేవరకొండ)ను మిక్స్‌డ్ మార్షల్ ఆర్ట్స్‌లో ఛాంపియన్ చేయాలనుకొంటుంది. మార్షల్ ఆర్ట్స్‌లో చాంపియన్ మార్క్ అండర్సన్ (మైక్ టైసన్)ను పిచ్చిగా లైగర్‌ ఆరాధిస్తుంటాడు. ఈ క్రమంలో ముంబైలోని మార్షల్ ఆర్ట్స్ కోచ్‌ (రోనిత్ రాయ్) వద్ద లైగర్‌ను చేర్పిస్తుంది. ఇదిలా ఉండగా లైగర్‌ను మొదటి చూపులోనే తానియా (అనన్య పాండే) ప్రేమిస్తుంది. కానీ కొన్ని కారణాల వల్ల లైగర్‌ ప్రేమను రిజెక్ట్ చేస్తుంది. లైగర్‌తో బ్రేకప్ తర్వాత తానియా ఓ మాఫియా అధినేత చేతిలో కిడ్నాప్‌కు గురి అవుతుంది.

బాలమణి తన కొడుకుకు లైగర్ అని పేరు ఎందుకు పెట్టింది? లైగర్‌ను ఎందుకు మార్షల్ ఆర్ట్స్ ఛాంపియన్‌ను చేయాలనుకొన్నది? లైగర్‌ ప్రేమను ఎందుకు తానియా రిజెక్ట్ చేసింది? తానియాతో బ్రేకప్ తర్వాత లైగర్ పరిస్థితి ఏమిటి? అమెరికాకు వెళ్లిన లైగర్‌కు మార్క్ అండర్సన్ (మైక్ టైసన్) ఎలాంటి పరిస్థితుల్లో ఎదురుపడ్డాడు. తాను అభిమానించే మార్క్ అండర్సన్‌ను లైగర్ ఎందుకు ఎదురించాల్సి వస్తుంది? తానియాను కిడ్నాప్ ఎవరు చేశారు? కిడ్నాపర్ నుంచి తానియాను లైగర్ ఎలా రక్షించాడు అనే సింపుల్ కథకు సమాధానమే లైగర్ సినిమా కథ.

ఫస్టాఫ్ ఎనాలిసిస్

ఆరంభంలో మంచి యాక్షన్ ఎపిసోడ్‌తో లైగర్ సినిమా కథ మొదలవుతుంది. తన జీవితంలో జరిగిన విషయాలను లైగర్ చెప్పడం ద్వారా కథ ముందుకు వెళ్తుంది. కరీంనగర్ నుంచి ముంబైకి వెళ్లడం, అక్కడ కొన్ని అవమానాలకు గురికావడం లాంటి అంశాలతో కథ ఓ మాదిరిగా సాగుతుంది. లైగర్ మార్షల్ ఆర్ట్స్ కోచ్ వద్ద చేరడం.. అనన్య పాండే లవ్ ట్రాక్ సరదాగా, యూత్ ఫుల్ ఎలిమెంట్స్‌తో సాగిపోతుంది. ఆలీ, గెటప్ శ్రీను కామెడీ పంచులు సినిమాలో హ్యుమర్‌ను పెంచింది. అనన్య పాండేతో లవ్ ట్రాక్ కిక్ ఎక్కించేలా లేకపోవడం ఈ సినిమాకు మైనస్‌గా అనిపిస్తుంది. రమ్యకృష్ణ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్, విజయ్ యాక్షన్, ఫైట్స్ సినిమాను మరింత యూత్‌ఫుల్‌గా మారుస్తుంది. చిన్న ఎమోషనల్ ఎపిసోడ్‌తో లైగర్ ఫస్టాఫ్ ముగుస్తుంది.

సెకండాఫ్ ఎలా ఉందంటే?

ఇక సెకండాఫ్‌లో బ్రేకప్ తర్వాత ఇంటర్నేషనల్ ఛాంపియన్‌ కావడానికి లైగర్ ప్రయత్నించడం.. జాతీయ ఛాంపియన్ తర్వాత విదేశాలకు వెళ్లే విషయం రొటీన్‌గా అనిపిస్తుంది. యాక్షన్ ఎపిసోడ్స్‌తో సెకండాఫ్‌ నిండిపోతుంది. చివర్లలో మైక్ టైసన్ ఎపిసోడ్ సీరియస్‌గా ఉంటుందనుకొంటే.. పూరీ తన మార్కుకు భిన్నంగా కామెడీతో కథను ముగించడం మరికొంత నిరాశను కలిగించినట్టు అనిపిస్తుంది.

పూరీ జగన్నాథ్ మేకింగ్ ఎలా ఉందంటే?

ప్రతీ సినిమాలో బలమైన సన్నివేశాలు, ఎమోషన్స్ దట్టించే పూరీ జగన్నాథ్.. ఈ సినిమాలో అలాంటి ప్రయత్నాలు చేసినట్టు కనిపించడు. రెగ్యులర్, రొటీన్ ఫార్మాట్‌తో కథ లేకుండానే కేవలం విజయ్ దేవరకొండ ఫెర్ఫార్మెన్స్‌తో మ్యాజిక్ చేయాలనే సాహసం చేశాడనిపిస్తుంది. రమ్యకృష్ణ పాత్రను ఎమోషనల్ తీర్చిదిద్దిన పూరీ.. మిగితా పాత్రలు చాలా పేలవంగా డిజైన్ చేశాడు. కథకు అవసరమైనప్పుడు క్యారెక్టర్లను సన్నివేశాల్లోకి లాగే రెగ్యులర్ ఫార్మాట్‌తో ముందుకెళ్లాడు. నత్తి అనేది సినిమా ఫ్లోకు అడ్డుపడిందా అనే సందేహం కలుగుతుంది. ఇలాంటి లోపాలు ఉన్నప్పటికి.. చాలా చోట్ల డైలాగ్స్‌తో పూరీ మెరుపులు మెరిపించాడు. కథ, కథనాలపై మరింత దృష్టిపెట్టి ఉంటే అభిమానులు సంతోషపడి ఉండే వారేమో అనిపిస్తుంది. కథ లేకుండా పూరీ సినిమా తీయడం షాక్ కలిగించే అంశం.

విజయ్ దేవరకొండ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ అదుర్స్

విజయ్ దేవరకొండ ఎప్పటి మాదిరిగానే ఫెర్ఫార్మెన్స్‌తో మెరుపులు మెరిపించాడు. బాడీ ట్రాన్స్‌ఫర్మేషన్‌తో ఫ్యాన్స్‌నే కాదు.. సాధారణ ప్రేక్షకులను కూడా థ్రిల్ చేశాడు. గతంలో ఎన్నడూ లేని విధంగా.. పాటలు, ఫైట్స్‌తో చెలరేగిపోయాడు. బలమైన కథ లేకపోయినప్పటికీ.. విజయ్ తన టాలెంట్‌తో సినిమాను మరో లెవెల్‌కు తీసుకెళ్లే ప్రయత్నం చేశాడు. ఇప్పటి వరకు లవర్ బాయ్‌ ఇమేజ్‌తో ఉన్న విజయ్.. ఇక నుంచి కమర్షియల్, మాస్ హీరోగా ఈ సినిమాతో ఎస్టాబ్లిష్ కావడం మంచి పరిణామం అని చెప్పవచ్చు.

ఇక మిగితా క్యారెక్టర్ల విషయానికి వస్తే..

రమ్యకృష్ణ మరోసారి మంచి పాత్రలో అద్బుతమైన ఎమోషన్స్‌ను పలికించింది. సినిమాకు ఆమె నటన పాజిటివ్ అంశంగా మారింది. ఇక అనన్య పాండే ఈ సినిమాకు పూర్తిగా మైనస్. గ్లామర్ పరంగాను, అలాగే ఫెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ పరంగాను ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయింది. ఆలీ, గెటప్ శ్రీను అక్కడక్కడ నవ్వులు పూయించారు. రోనిత్ రాయ్, విష్ పాత్రలు ఫర్వాలేదనిపిస్తాయి. ఇక మైక్ టైసన్ విషయమే పూర్తిగా నిరాశను కలిగిస్తుంది. చంకీ పాండే గెస్ట్ అప్పీరియెన్స్ మాదిరిగా ఉంటుంది.

సాంకేతిక నిపుణుల విషయానికి వస్తే..

విష్ణు శర్మ సినిమాటోగ్రఫి ఎక్సలెంట్‌గా ఉంది. సునీల్ కశ్యప్ అందించిన బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ మ్యూజిక్ సినిమాకు స్పెషల్ ఎట్రాక్షన్. రెండు పాటలు తప్ప.. మిగితా పాటలు అంతగా కనెక్ట్ కాలేకపోయాయి. ఎడిటర్ జునైద్ సిద్దీఖి వర్క్ బాగుంది. బలహీనమైన స్క్రిప్టు ఉన్నప్పటికీ.. సన్నివేశాలను చకచకా పరుగులు పెట్టించారు. ఆర్ట్, ఇతర విభాగాల పనితీరు బాగుంది.

నిర్మాణపరమైన విషయాలకు వస్తే..

కథ, కథనాలపై మరింత దృష్టిపెట్టాల్సి ఉండేది. అయితే విజయ్ దేవరకొండ, రమ్యకృష్ణ, మైక్ టైసన్ తప్పిస్తే.. పాత్రల కోసం ఎంపిక చేసిన నటీనటులు అంతగా ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయాయి. సినిమాను లావిష్‌గా, మంచి క్వాలిటీతో అందించడం వారికి సినిమాపై ఉన్న అభిరుచిని తెలియచెప్పింది. వారు పాటించిన నిర్మాణ విలువలు బాగున్నాయి.

మార్షల్ ఆర్ట్స్ బ్యాక్ డ్రాప్‌తో లవ్, యాక్షన్, ఎమోషనల్ పాయింట్లతో తెరకెక్కిన చిత్రం లైగర్. కొత్తదనం లేని కథనం, పూరీ మార్క్ మేకింగ్ కనిపించకపోవడం ఈ సినిమాకు మైనస్ అని చెప్పవచ్చు. సాధారణంగా పూరీ సినిమాలో లవ్ ట్రాక్ బ్రహ్మడంగా ఉంటుంది. కానీ ఈ సినిమాలో అదే సినిమాకు మైనస్‌గా మారింది. స్క్రిప్టు పరంగా అనేక లోపాలు ఉన్నప్పటికీ.. విజయ్ దేవరకొండ ఫెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ ఈ సినిమాను నిలబెట్టేలా చేసింది. ఎమోషనల్‌ కంటెంట్ సరిగా పండకపోవడం మరో మైనస్. అయితే యాక్షన్ సీన్లు మాత్రం తెలుగు సినిమా స్టాండర్ట్స్‌ను పెంచేలా ఉన్నాయి. బీ, సీ సెంటర్లలో ప్రేక్షకులకు నచ్చే అంశాలు పుష్కలంగా ఉన్నాయి. మల్టీ ప్లెక్స్ ఆడియెన్స్ రెస్సాన్స్ బట్టి ఈ సినిమా సక్సెస్ రేంజ్ తెలిసే అవకాశం ఉంది. రొటీన్, రెగ్యులర్ కథ ఉన్నప్పటికీ.. విజయ్ దేవరకొండ కోసం లైగర్ వన్ టైమ్ వాచ్.

Liger Movie Review (2022)

Puri jagannadh's liger, starring vijay deverakonda and ananya panday, feels like a cruel joke on those who think "south films are better".

There's a terrific idea for a scene in the first half of Puri Jagannadh's Liger . That title refers to the Vijay Deverakonda character, who is named after his lion-like father and his tigress-like mother, played by Ramya Krishnan. Liger and his mother make their living by selling tea, but Liger falls for the super-rich Taniya, played by Ananya Panday. The scene I am talking about has Liger's mother telling Taniya how she raised him single-handedly, and it's her dream to make him an MMA fighter, and she does not want a flighty society girl to destroy that dream. A good masala -movie writer would have made this scene soar. It has everything: a mother's ambition, the rich-versus-poor conflict, a young man whose ambition is swayed by the distractions of a young woman. There is everything. And yet, the scene is a giant ball of nothing. It does nothing to you. It feels like one of many "checkboxes" someone thought they had to include in order to make a certain kind of mass-appeal movie.

It's disturbing enough that Bollywood filmmakers have forgotten to make good masala movies. But when the Telugu filmmaker responsible for Pokiri and who made a mini-comeback with iSmart Shankar fails so badly, it feels like a double disaster. Like that earlier scene I talked about, the entire movie is a series of ideas for scenes, ideas that are not fleshed out at all. There is a great idea for a scene where Taniya talks about how guys cannot handle a breakup. There's a great idea for a scene where Liger imagines his opponent as the man who killed his father. There's a great idea for a scene where Liger, who stammers, says people will call a stammerer a stammerer – there is no self-pity, he has accepted the fact. But because the love angle is so badly written, and because Liger's father remains an abstract concept, and because Liger's stammer adds nothing to the character, these ideas do not impact us one bit.

Liger feels like a bad 80s-90s Tamil or Telugu movie where a song or a comedy track would be randomly inserted, without any care about the overall emotional arc. The mother, the girlfriend, the coach figure played by Ronit Roy, the strain of patriotism – nothing and no one registers, and neither does Vijay Deverakonda. How can you evaluate the acting when the screenplay is so terrible and the director doesn't seem to be looking through the monitor to see reaction shots? The film feels like a cruel joke on those who think "south films are better". It feels like it's been made to say "south films can suck big-time, too". A few weeks back,  I reviewed the Karthi-starring Tamil film, Viruman . It is a generic template-movie, but at least that template was adhered to faithfully. There was no innovation, but whatever was done was done with a bit of conviction. Even that bit of conviction is completely absent in Liger .

The biggest question on my mind was how Vijay Deverakonda signed this film. Whether you like this actor's work or not, you have to admit that he tries to pick scripts that are different. World Famous Lover did not work, but at least you could see the potential Vijay saw in it and why he was interested. But what did he see in this collection of cliches? Did he not see that the film is an excruciating - and very randomly put together - mix of action and romance? Did he not sense that the Mike Tyson cameo is unintentionally hilarious? Did he not see that the conflict points are abruptly cut off by badly placed songs? The film's best bit has the coach dismissing Liger's stammer. He says it's okay if your words come late, but your punches should land on time. But even the fights are boring, all chopped to pieces and giving little sense of actually being there. Like everyone in the movie, even the editor seems to have checked out. The title suggests a cross between two magnificent animals, but Liger feels more like a cross between some of the worst commercial movies ever made.

లైగర్.. దేశమంతా ఇప్పుడు ఈ సినిమా గురించే మాట్లాడుకుంటున్నారు.. మాట్లాడుకునేలా చేసారు విజయ్ దేవరకొండ. పూరీ జగన్నాథ్ తెరకెక్కించిన ఈ చిత్రం భారీ అంచనాల మధ్య విడుదలైంది. మరి లైగర్ అంచనాలు అందుకున్నాడా.. బాక్సాఫీస్ దగ్గర వాట్ లగా దేంగే అన్నాడా లేదా రివ్యూలో చూద్దాం..

లైగర్ (విజయ్ దేవరకొండ), వాళ్ళ అమ్మ బాలమణి (రమ్యకృష్ణ) కరీంనగర్ నుంచి ముంబైకి వస్తారు. ఓ చాయ్ బండి నడుపుకుంటూ తన కొడుకుని నేషనల్ ఛాంపియన్ చేయాలని కలలు కంటుంది. దానికోసం ఒక కోచ్ ను పట్టుకొని ఎంఎంఏ ట్రైనింగ్ తీసుకుంటాడు లైగర్. ఈ క్రమంలోనే తాన్య (అనన్య పాండే)తో ప్రేమలో పడతాడు కానీ ఆమె అతని మోసం చేసి వెళ్ళిపోతుంది. ఆ తర్వాత లైగర్ నేషనల్ ఛాంపియన్ ఎలా అయ్యాడు.. అక్కడి నుంచి ఇంటర్నేషనల్ కి ఎలా వెళ్లాడు అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

పూరీ సినిమాలు ఇలా ఉంటాయి అని ప్రత్యేకంగా పరిచయాలు అవసరం లేదు. ఎలా ఉంటుందని ఊహించుకుని వెళ్తారో.. అదే సినిమా చూపిస్తారు పూరీ. ఇప్పుడు లైగర్ కూడా అదే. కాకపోతే ఇది పాన్ ఇండియా స్టైల్‌లో కాస్త గ్రాండ్‌గా చూపించారంతే. కాకపోతే టేకింగ్, మేకింగ్ అంతా సేమ్ టూ సేమ్ అదే పూరీ జగన్నాథే. విజయ్ లాంటి నటుడు దొరికేసరికి లైగర్ స్వరూపమే మారిపోయింది. చిన్న బడ్జెట్ తో చేయాలనుకున్న సినిమాను.. పాన్ ఇండియా యాక్షన్ సినిమాగా మార్చేశారు పూరీ. మొదటి సీన్ నుంచే కథలోకి వెళ్లిపోయాడు దర్శకుడు పూరి జగన్నాథ్. తాను ఏం చెప్పాలనుకుంటున్నాడో అది మాత్రమే స్క్రీన్ మీద చూపించాడు. అయితే మధ్యలో హీరోయిన్ తో వచ్చే సన్నివేశాలు మాత్రం అంతగా ఆకట్టుకోలేదు. అమ్మానాన్న ఓ తమిళమ్మాయి స్ఫూర్తి కనిపిస్తున్న అది ఇది వేరుగా ఉంటుంది. ముఖ్యంగా అందులో ఉన్న ఎమోషన్ సీన్స్ ఇందులో మిస్ అయినట్లు స్పష్టంగా అర్థం అవుతుంది. ఫస్టాఫ్ అంత యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాలతో పాటు.. అక్కడక్కడ మదర్ సెంటిమెంట్ ఉండేలా జాగ్రత్త పడ్డాడు. ఇంటర్వెల్ కు చిన్న ట్విస్ట్ ఇచ్చి.. ఆ తర్వాత నేషనల్ నుంచి ఇంటర్నేషనల్ కు లైగర్ ఎలా వెళ్లాడు అనే జర్నీ చూపించాడు. అందరూ ముందు నుంచి ఊహించింది క్లైమాక్స్.. ఎందుకంటే అప్పుడే మైక్ టైసన్ వచ్చేది.. దాన్ని ఊహించినంత చిత్రీకరించలేకపోయాడు పూరి జగన్నాథ్. టైసన్ లాంటి ఫైటర్ను తీసుకొచ్చి చాలా సిల్లీగా క్లైమాక్స్ ప్లాన్ చేసినట్లు అనిపిస్తుంది. చాలా రొటీన్ కథకు ప్రెడిక్టబుల్ స్క్రీన్ ప్లే తోడు కావడంతో లైగర్ అంత ఆసక్తికరంగా మారలేదు. కాకపోతే విజయ్ దేవరకొండ మాత్రం అద్భుతంగా నటించాడు. మొదటి సీన్ నుంచి చివరి వరకు వన్ మ్యాన్ షోలా కనిపించాడు.

విజయ్ దేవరకొండ నటన గురించి కొత్తగా చెప్పాల్సిన అవసరం లేదు. తనకు సరిపోయే కారెక్టర్ దొరికితే ఎలా రప్ఫాడుకుంటాడో అర్జున్ రెడ్డిలోనే చూపించేసారు. ఇప్పుడు లైగర్‌లోనూ అదిరిపోయే నటనతో ఆకట్టుకున్నారు విజయ్. పూర్తిగా ఆయన కారెక్టరైజేషన్ సినిమాకు హైలైట్. పూరీ ఈ పాత్రను డిజైన్ చేసిన తీరు కూడా అద్భుతమే. నత్తితో కూడా అదరగొట్టారు విజయ్. మార్షల్ ఆర్ట్స్‌లోనూ సత్తా చూపించారు. అనన్యా పాండే కారెక్టర్ ఉన్నంత వరకు ఓకే. రమ్యకృష్ణ చాలా బాగా నటించారు. ఆమెకు మరో పవర్ ఫుల్ కారెక్టర్ దొరికింది. రోనిత్ రాయ్, మకరంద్ దేశ్ పాండే బాగున్నారు. మైక్ టైసన్ పాత్రను పూరీ అదిరిపోయే డిజైన్ చేసారు. ఆయన పాత్ర సినిమాకు మెయిన్ హైలైట్. స్క్రీన్ పై చాలా సరదాగా కనిపించారు మైక్.

టెక్నికల్ టీం:

లైగర్ సినిమాకు సంగీతం అందించింది ఒక్కరు కాదు.. ఈ సినిమాకు చాలా మంది సంగీత దర్శకులు పని చేసారు. విక్రమ్ మోంత్రోసే, సునీల్ కశ్యప్, తనిష్క్ బఘ్చీ, లియో జార్జ్-డిజే చీట్స్, జానీ అందించిన పాటలు బాగున్నాయి. విజువల్‌గానూ చాలా బాగా చిత్రీకరించారు పూరీ జగన్నాథ్. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ నెక్ట్స్ లెవల్‌లో ఉంది. ఎడిటింగ్ పర్లేదు. ఈ విషయంలో జునైద్ వర్క్ బాగానే ఉంది. చివరగా పూరీ జగన్నాథ్ గురించి చెప్పాలి. తనకు కావాల్సినంత టైమ్ తీసుకుని.. విజువల్స్ అదరగొట్టారు. యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ చాలా బాగా రాసుకున్నారు. కానీ కథ విషయంలో ఇంకాస్త శ్రద్ధ చూపించి ఉంటే బాగుండేది. చాలా సింపుల్ కథను దేశం మొత్తానికి చూపించాలనుకున్నాడు. కానీ అది అంతగా వర్కౌట్ కాలేదు.

‘Liger’ movie review: Vijay Deverakonda’s action drama is all noise and little else

This puri jagannadh and vijay deverakonda film is a mishmash of sport, action and drama in which nothing makes an impact.

In the opening minutes of Liger , a voiceover describes the title character as a slumdog from the streets of Mumbai who is aiming to win on an international podium. Though overused, this underdog template can still make the cut if a writer-director has a story that stays true to its milieu and engages the audience. Liger , helmed by Puri Jagannadh and headlined by Vijay Deverakonda, however, comes across as a lazily written film that moves from one song/stunt sequence to another.

Liger (Vijay Deverakonda), whom his mother Balamani (Ramya Krishnan) describes as a crossbreed between a lion and tiger, is good at mixed martial arts (MMA). Hailing from Karimnagar and raising him on her own, she has moved to Mumbai to see him as an MMA national champion; the mother and son make ends meet by managing a tea stall. They seek the help of a coach (Ronit Roy), though they cannot afford the fee. Balamani is a feisty character who does not bow down; she reveals an emotional story that cuts the ice with the coach. 

Puri gives Liger a handicap — a stutter. He can land several punches in the time he strings together a sentence. Predictable scenes follow in which Liger is ridiculed by the students of MMA and he has to fight to earn their respect.

Once Liger’s potential in MMA is established, the story introduces the leading lady who is characterised as a dimwit who is both intentionally and unintentionally hilarious, and annoying. Tanya (Ananya Panday) is portrayed as a wealthy brat who desperately seeks social media attention. One of her friends suggests posting ‘hot’ videos to attract attention; but a few scenes later we see her lip-sync M S Subbulakshmi’s rendition of Suprabatham. She is game for anything that can get her traction. The entire scene in which Liger’s mother describes the kind of girl whom he shouldn’t fall for and she reflecting all those traits is one of the many cringe-inducing scenes that are passed off as humour.

In another scene, Balamani loudly vents on the phone and asks Tanya to leave her son alone and not mislead him, asserting that she wants to see him as a champion. Tanya’s immediate reaction after the phone call is to ask, “Where is my vodka?” And it cuts to the foot tapping ‘Akdi pakdi’ dance number. Soon after, she is woken up by friends who tell her that her Instagram post has become a rage and fans have gathered downstairs. She goes to the balcony and waves to the crowd in a manner similar to SRK from Mannat. So was that song a dream, did it really happen and were those videos posted and went viral? The transition in the narrative is so random. Some sort of a reveal about Tanya’s true reaction to the mother’s angst comes much later but by then, nothing matters as the film goes on a downward spiral.

The one who tries to hold the shaky narrative together is Vijay Deverakonda . His physical transformation makes him come across as agile and fit enough to pull off the stunt sequences. A pre-climax fight sequence involving women trained in Krav Maga sticks out like a sore thumb. Was that Puri’s way of showing the power of women after a string of glam doll characterisations of the leading women in his last few films? Who knows!

The much-hyped combat between Liger and Mike Tyson has its moments, but coming at the fag end of a shoddily-written story, it is too little and too late. Cast in a fictional character, Tyson is shown as Liger’s idol but the climax reveal of the other side of the champion is a mockery.

A big letdown, apart from the story and screenplay, is the language of Liger . Understandably, some of the characters are men and women of Telugu origin who live in Mumbai. An easy mix of Telugu and Hindi would have been apt. Instead, we get the feeling of watching a partially dubbed film in which the Mumbai-bred characters are mouthing Hindi dialogues but we hear them in Telugu. A cursory explanation of the use of language would have made it less awkward.

Indian cinema has had much better sports action dramas. Here the characterisations and storytelling are so banal that it is tough to root for the underdog story. Forget the physical transformation and the action episodes, we have seen better performances from Vijay Deverakonda in Telugu cinema. The stutter also appears forced in some scenes. Ramya can pack a punch as a courageous mother but she is mostly made to scream and shout. Chunky Pandey appears in a brief character that begins as glitzy and fizzles out. 

This big-ticket film that aimed for pan-India attention ended up as an embarrassment. At the start of the film, the protagonist says that he is not good at narrating a story, but he will try. Perhaps that was a warning about the film. Thankfully, Liger does not end on a note that allows room for a sequel.

లైగర్ (విజయ్ దేవరకొండ) మిక్స్డ్ మార్షల్ ఆర్ట్స్ నేర్చుకోవడం కోసం తన తల్లి బాలమణి (రమ్యకృష్ణ)తో కలిసి బతకడానికి ముంబై వస్తాడు. నేషనల్ ఛాంపియన్ అవ్వాలని కల కంటాడు. అనంతరం జరిగిన కొన్ని నాటకీయ పరిణామాల మధ్య లైగర్, తాన్య (అనన్య పాండే)తో ప్రేమలో పడతాడు. మరీ లైగర్ జర్నీలో తాన్య ప్రేమ దేనికి దారి తీసింది ?, లైగర్ తాను అనుకున్న గోల్ కి రీచ్ అయ్యాడా? లేదా ?, అసలు లైగర్ త‌న క‌ల‌ని నిజం చేసుకోవడానికి చేసిన కృషి ఏమిటి ?, ఈ మధ్యలో మైక్ టైస‌న్ ట్రాక్ ఏమిటి ? అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

ఈ సినిమాకి వచ్చినంత హైప్, ఈ మధ్య కాలంలో పూరి సినిమాల్లో దేనికి రాలేదు. మరి, భారీ అంచనాల మధ్య పక్కా మాస్ మసాలా అంశాలతో ఫుల్ యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్టైనర్ గా వచ్చిన ఈ సినిమా మొత్తానికి మాస్ ఆడియన్స్ ను ఆకట్టుకుంది. ఇక విజయ్ దేవరకొండ అద్భుతంగా నటించాడు. ఫుల్ ఎనర్జీతో సాగే విజయ్ యాక్టింగ్ ఈ సినిమాకి ప్రధాన ఆకర్షణగా నిలిచింది. ముఖ్యంగా ఈ సినిమా కోసం విజయ్ పెట్టిన ఎఫర్ట్స్ చాలా బాగున్నాయి.

లైగర్ క్యారెక్టర్‌ లో విజయ్ చక్కని నటనను కనబరిచాడు. గత సినిమాల్లో కంటే, ఈ సినిమాలో విజయ్ నటన చాలా కొత్తగా ఉంటుంది. తన హై ఎనర్జిటిక్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ తో విజయ్ తన పాత్రకి పూర్తి న్యాయం చేశాడు. ఇక విజయ్ సరసన హీరోయిన్ గా నటించిన అనన్య పాండే తన స్క్రీన్ ప్రెజెన్స్ తో మరియు తన గ్లామర్ తో బాగా అలరించింది. కొన్ని ప్రేమ సన్నివేశాల్లో విజయ్ – అనన్య మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ కూడా బాగుంది. రమ్యకృష్ణ, అలీ, మైక్ టైసన్ లతో పాటు మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ పాత్రలకు పూర్తి న్యాయం చేశారు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

పూరి మంచి స్టోరీ లైన్ ను అలాగే లైగర్ అనే మంచి క్యారెక్టర్ ను రాసుకున్నప్పటికీ, ఆ లైన్ ను ఆ క్యారెక్టర్ కి తగ్గట్లు పూర్తి స్థాయిలో ఆకట్టుకునే విధంగా కథనాన్ని మాత్రం రాసుకోలేదు. దీనికి తోడు, సినిమాలో యూత్ ని ఎట్రాక్ట్ చేసే క్రమంలో ప్రతి సన్నివేశంలో అవసరం ఉన్నా లేకపోయినా బోల్డ్ నెస్ ను ఇరికించడం కొంత ఇబ్బందిగా అనిపిస్తోంది. పైగా సెకెండ్ హాఫ్ లో కొన్ని సన్నివేశాలు మరి స్లోగా సాగుతాయి.

ఇక ఫస్ట్ హాఫ్ లో హీరోయిన్ ప్రేమలో పడే సన్నివేశాలతో పాటు సెకెండ్ హాఫ్ లో ఆ లవ్ తాలూకు ట్విస్ట్ కూడా మరీ సిల్లీగా ఉంది. మదర్ క్యారెక్టర్ ఎలివేషన్ కూడా బాగాలేదు. రమ్యకృష్ణ పాత్ర మరీ ఫోర్స్ గా ఉంది. ఇక సినిమాలో కీలక సన్నివేశాలకు సరైనా లాజిక్ కూడా ఉండడు. పైగా ఫ్యామిలీ ఆడియన్స్ కి ఈ సినిమా కనెక్ట్ కాదు. ఇక క్లైమాక్స్ లో మెయిన్ పాయింట్ కి ఆధారంగానే సరైన ముగింపు ఇచ్చి ఉంటే బాగుండేది. అలాగే మైక్ టైసన్ సీక్వెన్స్ ను కూడా ఇంకా బలంగా రాసుకోవాల్సింది.

సాంకేతిక విభాగం :

ఈ సినిమాలో సాంకేతిక నిపుణుల విషయానికి వస్తే సినిమాటోగ్రఫర్ తన కెమెరా పనితనంతో మంచి విజువల్స్ అందించాడు. అలాగే సినిమాలో నేపధ్య సంగీతంతో పాటు లాస్ట్ సాంగ్ కూడా బాగుంది. ముఖ్యంగా సినిమా నేపథ్యానికి తగ్గట్లుగా, సినిమాలో వచ్చే పరిస్థితులకు తగట్లుగా పాటలను తీర్చిదిద్దిన విధానం బాగుంది. ఎడిటర్ సినిమాను ఇంకా ట్రీమ్ చేసి ఉంటే బాగుండేది. నిర్మాణ విలువులు చాలా బాగున్నాయి.

విజయ్ దేవరకొండ – పూరి జగన్నాథ్ కాంబినేషన్ లో పక్కా యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్టైనెర్ గా వచ్చిన ఈ చిత్రం కాన్సెప్ట్ పరంగా అలాగే కొన్ని మాస్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ పరంగా మరియు కొన్ని యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాల పరంగా బాగానే ఆకట్టుకున్నా.. సినిమా మాత్రం పూర్తిస్థాయిలో ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగలేదు. కథనం రొటీన్ గా సింపుల్ గా ఉండటం, కొన్ని చోట్ల సీన్స్ సిల్లీగా సాగడం, ఇక సినిమాలో ఉన్న బలమైన కాన్ ఫ్లిక్ట్ ను పూర్తి స్థాయిలో వాడుకోలేకపోవడం వంటి అంశాలు సినిమా ఫలితాన్ని దెబ్బ తీశాయి. అయితే విజయ్ దేవరకొండ హై ఎనర్జిటిక్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ ప్రేక్షకులను అలరిస్తోంది. ఓవరాల్ గా లైగర్ మాస్ ఆడియన్స్ కి కనెక్ట్ అవుతుంది. అయితే, మిగిలిన వర్గాల ప్రేక్షకులకు మాత్రం కనెక్ట్ కాదు.

Karimnagar resident Balamani (Ramya Krishna) wants her son Liger ( Vijay ) to become a national champion in Martial arts. The mother-son duo move to Mumbai to pursue their life ambition. Macho man Liger initially concentrates on his career dream but gets distracted when in love with Taniya ( Ananya Panday). The rest of the film deals with the dispute between the lead couple, the World MMA championship in Las Vegas, and finally the Kidnaping event in USA episodes.

Puri Jagan takes off the film in a promising manner, however, the impression fizzles as he delivers very predictable stuff scene after another. Vijay’s characterization stands out in the first half while the terribly written Taniya ( Ananya Panday) – Liger ( Vijay ) love thread plays the spoilsport.

As in a typical sports film template, Liger deals with the ambitious hero. In the training phase, the director downplays him as an underdog. Vijay’s clash with rich counterparts and typical love track episodes are very predictable stuff from Puri Jagan and the team. Given the nationwide buzz, this film got from the beginning, this monotonous script and lackluster direction is unacceptable. Despite predictable narration, the first half is still able to watch. The conflict point between the lead couple is awful; the eventual justification for the conflict is laughable.

We can call out this film’s love track as one of the worst in Puri Jagan’s career. He has the capability of delivering engaging threads, and characterization with ease. That strength of Puri Jagan is amiss in Liger.

Once the hero Liger becomes the national champion, the story goes over the top. Liger gets an invitation to the international championship, Ali helps the cause, and Chunkey Panday sponsors the trip as such scenes are silly. By pre-climax, the film sounds like a comedy film rather than an inspiring sports one. The climax episode with Mike Tyson is a colossal waste of time, money, and energy of all involved persons. Ramya Krishna’s characterization is good in the first half, but the over-the-top antics in the second half unbearable.

A great opportunity to continue the pan-Indian Telugu film’s success streak is missed by Puri Jagan. His typical strengths are no longer visible. Maybe it is high time to get rid of his ‘ Deyyalu ‘ (If exists) and ‘ Focus ‘!

Performances:

Evidently, Vijay Deverakonda has put enormous effort in bodybuilding, to dub as a stammering character, and mainly to act in this tougher role. His fights are excellent, and so is the dance in Coka Song & Akdi Pakdi . Full marks to the hero and the director in this aspect.

Ananya Panday looks Okay but due to the awfully written Taniya role, the audience get irritated every time she appears on the screen. Ronit Roy as MMS coach is good. Ramya character is a mixed bag. Getup Srinu role fails to evoke humor. Chunky Panday , Ali play other characters. Vishu Reddy as Sanju is a good fit.

Dharma Productions & Puri Connects production values are good.

‘ Liger ‘ is a missed opportunity. Vijay Devarakonda did all the hard work, and his screen presence and performance are very good. Director Puri Jagan has poorly executed the script and failed to put up engaging scenes. Vijay Fans and mass film lovers can try this film!

What's Behind

Vijay Devarakonda's Liger which marks his Bollywood entry is releasing on August 25, 2022 across the world. the film directed by Puri Jagannath has been promoted rigorously and the presence of boxing champion Mike Tyson increased the curiosity levels. Bollywood beauty Ananya Pandey is the female lead. Let us find out whether Vijay Devarakonda Vaat Laga Diya with Liger at the box office.

Story Review

The story is all about how a poor lad raised in the slums goes on to win the national and internal martial arts championship. Balamani (Ramyakrishna), the mother of Liger (Vijay Devarakonda), dreams of making her son raise his dad Balaram's aim of winning the national martial arts championship. Balamani and Liger land in Mumbai to raise their dreams. Liger who is an expert in martial arts undergoes Jeet Kun Do training under the instructor (Ronit Roy). Liger however gets distracted by Tanya (Ananya Pandey), the sister of his rival gang Sanjay Sahu (Vishu). When their love story is about to blossom Tanya gets to know the secret of Liger. To find out what is Liger's secret and the twists and turns in his journey to success, enjoy Liger on the big screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

The story of a slumdog conquering the world in sports and overcoming all the adversaries is nothing new. Puri Jagannath's Liger story is no different. The only thing is he showcased his hero suffering from stammering problems. This generated interest initially and the initial scenes set the stage for the bigger challenges. The coach Ronit Roy refusing to train and then testing Vijay Devarakonda and then giving a green signal are routine. Ananya Pandey's entry and scenes slow down the tempo and impact the film in a big way.

The pace slows down considerably with predictable scenes between Vijay Devarakonda, Ramya Krishna, and Ananya Pandey. In between songs come from nowhere signaling the downfall and there one understands that Puri Jagannath has no story to tell and he is just beating around the bush. The end of the first half comes as a relief but viewers still hoped that the second half turns better as they await the entry of boxing legend Mike Tyson and the action sequences of mixed martial arts. But their expectations turned out to be false as the action sequences with the lady villains and the martial arts fights in the ring and Ramya Krishna's expressions and dialogues turn out to be caricaturish and amateurish. People get excited when Mike Tyson appears on the screen. But within minutes, people will be seen cursing Puri Jagannath for giving such a role to the legend and insulting him completely. Finally, the film ends with the so-called Pushpa like- climax and it disappoints everyone.

Puri Jagannath turned out to be the main villain for Liger as it has no story and the screenplay and direction turned out to be atrocious. Puri Jagannath is known for routine commercial entertainer but he scored hits highlighting the emotions. But Liger missed everything and surprising that Puri and Vijay despite having so much time turned out to be so overconfident.

Vijay Devarakonda slipped into the role effortlessly. He once again showed his acting prowess and justified that he is a versatile actor. Vijay Devarakonada impresses with his expressions and emotions and he worked hard to show his dancing skills. He enacted high-octane stunts with ease. But all his effort and makeover turned out to be nothing as the story turned out to be extremely weak. Even at times, one gets a feeling that Vijay Devarakonda is doing roles that are turning out to be monotonous. In this film, he got limited dialogue and the stutter and stammer are ok to some extent but later irritated viewers.

Ananya Pandey for all her hot looks and glamor treat in the film failed to make an impact. Vijay Devarakonda and Ananya Pandey's on-screen chemistry did not create any magic. In fact, their romantic track turned out to be the weak link in the film. Ramya Krishna played the role of Vijay Devarakonda's mother and she is ok in her role but in the second half and at times she went overboard.

Boxing Legend Mike Tyson played an important role. But his role turned out to be a caricature and an insult to his statue. Wonder why Mike Tyson agreed to do this film. Others like Ronit Roy, Vishnu Reddy, Ali, Makarand Desh Pandey, and Getup Srinu performed according to their roles.

Songs are shot lavishly and in the backdrop of extravagant sets. All the songs acted as the speed breakers dragging back the already non-existing story. Sunil Kashyap's background music is in sync with the storyline and there is much to talk about it. The editing of Junaid Siddique is ok and he cannot be faulted as the story is routine and predictable and dragged to the end and he is just helpless. Production values are good.

Vijay Devarakonda known for his attitude teamed with Puri Jagannath known for his mass entertainers and came with Liger. The film came up with the tagline Saala Crossbreed. Truly it turned out to be the crossbreed of all the mass films and in the end, the crossbreed instead of gaining the strength of Tiger and Lion as promoted by the makers, however, inherited all the weaknesses. Liger Waat or Aag Nahi Lagaya instead Pani Dal Diya. If one decides to come up with a crossbreed of all the films, the result will be like Liger with a weak story, screenplay, and direction. Saala box-office Duba Diya. Considering all these aspects,  Cinejosh goes with a 2 rating for Liger.

Liger Movie Review: A crossbreed between cringe and cliché

When a film like Liger just flings cliches at you without any real effort to make them work, all that’s left to do is try and see whether you can at least summon a laugh or two at the film’s expense. I managed a few. For one, the character’s named Liger—because his mother, Balamani (Ramya Krishnan), is a self-styled tiger and apparently, her late husband, Liger’s father, was a lion (in the MMA arena). Perhaps because she’s modelled after a wild animal, she’s shown to scream a lot, under the name of ferocity. Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) too roars—and I’m talking here about really hearing the roar of a tiger in the background. For that reason, I thought of director Hari many times in this film—notably when Liger opens up his palm and swats a rival fighter in a train. “ Ondra ton weight-u da !” I murmured to myself, in fond memory of a better template film. Liger’s weird girlfriend, Taniya (Ananya Panday) roars too, for some reason… maybe because she’s a prospective ligress?

Liger , the film, is about a mother and son, who have come to Mumbai with the ambition of pursuing MMA glory. In theory, there’s poverty, strife, and the absence of a father figure, but these never really get explored in this film. There’s one more challenge in the mix: Liger’s speech disorder that causes him to stammer, which this film seems only interested in milking for humour. The MMA trainees around him mock his impediment in many uncomfortable ways that the film passes off as light moments. In fact, if they sought to mock him, I think his name might have been a better topic to focus on. I wouldn’t have blamed Liger at all, had he felt justified in interrogating his mother about giving him a name that’s likely to scar him for life… a name based on a creature of which there are apparently 100 in the world. This isn’t information I googled for this review; the film shares this statistic at one point.

Bizarrely, many characters in this film, including Liger’s mother, don’t quite seem to possess the patience or the kindness to allow him to finish his sentences. Right at the beginning, someone insults him by saying, “Video is good, but the audio isn’t.” His girlfriend, Taniya, meanwhile, operates in the other extreme: She apparently finds it “cute”, in what comes through as a condescending way. In one love scene, she asks him to say her name and when he stutters before finishing, she exclaims, “So cute!”—like a zoo visitor observing an exotic animal making a strange noise.

The trailer suggested that Liger’s mother, Balamani, might come across as a feisty self-made woman, but in this film, her strength comes through only in the loudness of her voice. There’s no real focus on the person that she is, apart from generic strokes that make up a ‘strong mother’. I’m not even sure she’s all too likeable, especially given how she defines modern women as ‘deyyam’ (devil) and advises her son against falling prey to them. Even as she’s dispensing some forgettable advice, we see Taniya—having already moved from animosity to affection during the span of a single fight sequence—fall all over Liger, seducing him by modestly sharing, “Every inch of me is perfect.” Every inch, except perhaps what constitutes her mental machinery, considering that she watches Liger excelling in martial arts and wonders if he’s “Chinese”.

The film’s supposed to be about an underdog “fightaaaaa” winning big at the Mixed Martial Arts, and yet, we learn precious little about the sport—with the fights interpreted as stunt sequences in your average mass film. We learn nothing about Liger’s own strengths and weaknesses in the MMA arena, except notice that he has a proclivity for showing the middle-finger a lot and also, drawing attention to his crotch during fights. As I gave up and awaited my freedom, I sat up, seeing Mike Tyson come in from nowhere. For some reason, he’s called Mark Anderson in this film, and for some reason, he doesn’t want to let Liger’s girlfriend go free. He laughs like he were intoxicated, and he goes on to slug it out unconvincingly with Liger as well.  I am not sure I could tell you what was going on, but I drew some comfort from seeing that Mr Tyson too seemed confused. At one point, he even seemed to channelise the same agony I was feeling. Rather relatably, he exclaims, “Who the f*** are you, and who the f*** is your dad? I can’t believe this s***.”

Liger movie review: Vijay Deverakonda film is a cringe-fest of mammoth proportions

Liger movie review: it boggles the mind that filmmakers still think today’s audiences are willing to swallow utter rubbish in the name of entertainment..

So, first off, in case you were wondering, ‘Liger’ is what you get when a lion and a tiger mate. Got it? Not really? Never mind, here’s a ready reckoner of what to expect from the new Vijay Deverakonda flick, directed by Puri Jagannadh, made in Hindi and Telugu. Ready? Here you go. A kickboxer (Vijay Deverakonda) adorned by a series of boxer shorts and a bronzed, muscled chest, has a couple of markers — a mother (Ramya Krishnanstill in her shouty‘Bahubali’ mode), and a stutter. The mom is a latter-day Mother India type, full of fire and brimstone. The speech impairment may make Liger a slow speaker, but there’s nothing wrong with his cross-breed stripes. He jabs and kicks, feints and lunges, as he readies himself for his big break, which will allow him and his mentor (Ronit Roy) to make India proud in the global arena.

That was the nutshell. Breaking it open, the age-old themes of fierce-mother-loving-son twinning with macho chest-thumping sporty patriotism is used to roll out a cringe-fest of mammoth proportions. What do you want first: character upon character dissing the stutterer for, wait, stuttering (yes, that’s right), or the romantic interest who is all set to compete for the most vapid, vacuous female character (Ananya Panday) in recent times, or a mother who roars louder than her son? It boggles the mind that filmmakers still think today’s audiences are willing to swallow utter rubbish in the name of entertainment. Where do they live?

Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing more pleasurable than a masala movie done right. But there’s nothing new or fresh about the ingredients that go into the making of this film: mixed martial arts, snarling boxers, tough-as-nail trainers, and the hero who will pulp everyone single-handedly has been around of years. for years. This excuse-for-a-plot is filled with all kinds of outlandish situations; the treatment is beyond pathetic. The insensitive poking-fun-at-the-guy who stutters is downright distasteful (at one time he’s called a ‘stammering buffoon’ in the English subtitle), and the creation of the leading lady is not just a sexist misfire, it is positively Neanderthal. Who in their right minds will have a female character say, ‘guys look at girls from bottom-up’, AND have the heroine simper at this line? Anyone heard of misogyny?

You feel bad for Ronit Roy, who can, given a chance, be a treat. Last seen, he was comprehensively wasted in the terrible ‘Shamshera’. Here, he is stuck in the cliched mode of the flint-eyed teacher who has the best interests of his student at heart. Ditto for Chunky Panday, who used to be the best thing in his bad 90s movies. What is he even doing here? Can someone give these guys roles worthy of their talent?

The action, in the ring, is about the only thing that seems to have been shot with focus, but it is creakingly unoriginal. Other bouts are shoved in at random intervals to show off our hero’s moves: one includes a bevy of female Krav Maga experts (don’t ask), and another takes us to a ranch (told you, don’t ask), where Liger gets to face off with his idol, MMA artist Mark Anderson (Mike Tyson hamming it up happily). Deverakonda, never straying too far from his Arjun Reddy character, is all hot-eyed and limber and loose-limbed, and makes us watch. But to have a character praise his performance as ‘full paisa-vasool’? Basically, that’s ‘Liger’ high-fiving ‘Liger’. Seriously?

Vijay Deverakonda earned immense popularity after Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindham, but his recent films were failures. The actor is coming up with an action drama Liger this time. Directed by Puri Jagannath, Liger also has Ananya Pandey, Ramya Krishnan, and the very famous boxer Mike Tyson in it. The trailer for Liger looked like it was action-packed. The movie is hitting the screens today. Here is the review from one of the US Premieres.

What Is It About?

Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) comes to Mumbai along with his mother Balamani (Ramya Krishna), to become an MMA national champion. He joins a Jeet Kune Do institute to learn mixed martial arts and he falls in love with Tanya (Ananya Pandey). What happened to their love story and how he becomes the winning fighter is all about Liger.

Performances

Vijay Deverakonda appears as a martial arts fighter and he transformed himself into that look well. Other than that, there is nothing interesting about him in the movie.

Ananya Pandey’s role is horrible. The romantic track between the lead pair is a patience tester. The young actress tries to be bubbly in every frame, even when it is not needed. The heroine part is tiresome altogether.

Ramya Krishna is given a mother role who mostly does the motivation part with some cuss words. Ali, Chunkey Pandey, and others are fine in their brief roles.

World famous Mike Tyson appears in the last half an hour of the movie. He is completely wasted and his role ends up as a joke in the end.

Technicalities

Liger is an age-old story with flat narration has been added with some ridiculous twists and unwanted songs. The only thing that sounds positive about Liger is the crisp run time. The screenplay is ordinary. The cinematography is alright. The songs are not interesting. The background music is not impactful.

After watching the Liger trailer, many wondered if Puri Jagannath is making a revamp of his own Amma Nanna Tamilammayi. But there is no comparison between them because Liger is nowhere near the 20-year-old film.

Puri Jagannath has pinned a lot of hopes on Liger and even called it a comeback film. Liger fell far from the promotions and claims. With a story that is beaten to death, that too without emotions and intensity, Liger is purely boring.

An aspiring fighter comes to Mumbai with his eye on becoming a National champion but falls in love in a snap. The confrontation scenes to the love track between the lead pair are outright silly and awful. There is no depth or feel in the love story. The girl falling for him just looking at him fight some twenty goons at a time is a trick of decades old. Vijay’s stammering for every dialogue is exhausting.

While the story is already boring and periodic, the interval twist is a wholesale calamity. Heroine rejecting because he stutters and talking about ‘level’ is the peak of nonsense. There are many more over-the-top episodes like the heroine becoming famous overnight and hundreds of fans dancing at her place.

The film is all about an aspiring fighter, but none of the fights were shot interesting. Though the regular MMA followers could relate to some scenes from the international MMA fight, they can’t make the audience sit on the edge of their seats.

Convincing a world-famous heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson for a Telugu movie is a big feat. But his role was written so badly that it ends up being pointless and messy.

Puri stuck with the template of a cute girl falling for a tough guy. He just added the concept of mixed martial arts and the fights as the padding. The dialogues of heroism or the elevation in the usual Puri style can’t be seen anywhere in Liger. The total ‘lover also fighter also’ ends up as one of the weakest and the silliest storylines from Puri Jagannath.

Liger has got the openings big, but it is hard for it to keep it up.

Bottomline: Boring !

రౌడీ హీరో విజయ్‌ దేవరకొండ, డాషింగ్‌ అండ్‌ డేరింగ్‌ డైరెక్టర్‌ పూరి జగన్నాథ్‌ కాంబినేషన్‌లో తెరకెక్కిన పాన్‌ ఇండియా చిత్రం ‘లైగర్‌’. ఈ స్పోర్ట్స్ యాక్షన్ డ్రామాలో విజయ్‌ సరసన అనన్య పాండే నటించింది. పూరి కనెక్ట్స్ , బాలీవుడ్ స్టార్ ప్రొడక్షన్ కంపెనీ ధర్మ ప్రొడక్షన్స్ సంయుక్తంగా ఈ చిత్రాన్ని నిర్మించారు. ఇప్పటికే విడుదలైన టీజర్‌, ట్రైలర్‌, పాటలకు భారీ స్పందన లభించింది. దానికి తోడు మూవీ ప్రమోషన్స్‌ కూడా గ్రాండ్‌గా చేయడంతో ‘లైగర్‌’పై హైప్‌ క్రియేట్‌ అయింది.

భారీ అంచనాల మధ్య నేడు(ఆగస్ట్‌ 25) ఈ చిత్రం ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చింది. ఇప్పటికే ఓవర్సీస్‌తో పాటు పలు పలు చోట్ల ఫస్ట్‌డే ఫస్ట్‌ షో పడిపోయింది. దీంతో ఈ సినిమా చూసిన ప్రేక్షకులు సోషల్‌ మీడియా వేదికగా తమ అభిప్రాయాన్ని తెలియజేస్తున్నారు. ‘లైగర్‌’ కథేంటి? ఎలా ఉంది? తదితర విషయాలను ట్విటర్‌ వేదికగా చర్చిస్తున్నారు. అవేంటో చూడండి. అయితే ఇది కేవలం ప్రేక్షకుడి అభిప్రాయం మాత్రమే. ఇందులో పేర్కొన్న వారు పేర్కొన్న అంశాలకు ‘సాక్షి’బాధ్యత వహించదు.

బాక్సర్‌ నేపథ్యంలో వచ్చిన చిత్రాల్లో లైగర్‌ ఒక బెస్ట్‌ చిత్రమని, విజయ్‌ దేవరకొండ ఎప్పటి మాదిరే తన పాత్రలో ఒదిగిపోయాడు. మైక్‌టైసన్‌ ఓ అద్భుతమైన పాత్రని పోషించాడు. అనన్య పాండే తెరపై అందంగా కనిపించింది. మొత్తంగా లైగర్‌ ఓ అద్భుతమైన చిత్రమని ఓ నెటిజన్‌ కామెంట్‌ చేశాడు.

South Indian Movies Releasing in June 2024: Kalki 2898 AD, Raayan & More

The South Indian film industry has taken the world by storm. While Malayalam cinema is being praised for its unique content, Telugu and Tamil cinemas are known for their mass action flicks. The coming month of June 2024 will be a good one for all movie enthusiasts.

From Prabhas and Dhanush to Vikram, several stars from the South Indian film industry will be seen shining on the silver screens. Many awaited South Indian movies are releasing in the coming four weeks and have fans invested completely.

Dhanush’s Raayan to Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD, the below-mentioned list has highly anticipated movies.

Kajal Aggarwal’s awaited movie Satyabhama is all set to arrive in the theaters. The movie has been delayed previously, but it will be available to catch in the theaters in a few days. In the film, Agarwal plays the role of a dedicated police officer who takes on a case that touches her personally. Throughout the case, she has to face many hurdles.

The movie marks Kajal Aggarwal’s 60 project. It is written and directed by Suman Chikkala. The movie will be released on June 7, 2024.

Apart from leading the film, Tamil star Dhanush is also returning to the director’s chair in the upcoming movie Raayan. One of the most anticipated films of the year, it will feature an ensemble cast that includes SJ Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Selvaraghavan, Prakash Raj, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, and more. Sun Pictures has bankrolled the film, while AR Rahman has composed its music.

Raayan allegedly follows the story of a young man who trains to avenge the murder of his family. During his quest to seek revenge, he faces the criminal underworld.

The action thriller is all set to hit the theaters on June 13.

Double iSmart

Following Liger’s massive failure, Puri Jagannadh is retiring with a new star-studded flick, Double iSmart. The movie marks the official sequel to his 2019 film iSmart Shankar. Telugu star Ram Pothineni is all set to reprise his dashing role and fight the goons in the action drama. Besides Pothineni, Kavya Thapar is playing the leading lady. Moreover, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has been roped in to portray the lead antagonist.

For the unversed, iSmart Shankar’s story revolves around “a contract killer who is on the run after killing a politician. When Arun, a cop investigating the case, tries to nab Shankar, the cop gets killed, and his memory gets transferred to Shankar. Will Shankar be able to unveil the mystery behind this?”

Double iSmart will have plenty of action sequences, per its teaser. The movie is set to arrive in the theaters on June 14.

Chiyaan Vikram is all set to play a never-seen-before role in the upcoming movie Thangalaan. Pa Ranjith is directing the film and has also contributed to its writing process. Bankrolled by Jio Studios, Studio Green, and Neelam Productions, the movie is one of the most awaited South Indian movies.

Touted to be a period drama, the movie revolves around India’s freedom struggle. It is based on true events that happened in the Kolar Gold Fields.

Malavika Mohanan is the female lead of the film, while Paravathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, Harikrishnan Anbudurai, and others play supporting characters. The movie is expected to be released in the coming month.

Kalki 2898 AD

Kalki 2898 AD is the first mythological sci-fi dystopian film of India. It is based on the events of Mahabharat but has a unique twist to it. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the movie is among the most expensive films in India.

Prabhas plays Bhairava’s lead role in the film, while Deepika Padukone is expected to portray an incarnation of Goddess Laxmi. Amitabh Bachchan is portraying the role of the immortal Ashwatthama. Tamil star Kamal Haasan has an extended cameo in the movie, while Disha Patani plays a supporting character. More stars from different industries are expected to have special appearances in the film.

During a recent chat with Deadline , Prabhas threw light on the movie’s massive budget. He said, “The whole film is made for international [audiences]. That’s why it’s the highest budget and we’ve got the best actors in the country.”

So far, the makers have revealed several details about the movie. The latest one was the teaser of Bujji , a unique car with an installed AI assistant. Moreover, Kalki 2898 AD director Nag Ashwin also opened up about the era on which the movie is based. He reportedly teased, “Our film starts in Mahabharat, and it ends in 2898. That’s the title of the film; it’s called Kalki 2898 AD. It spans 6,000 years of distance and time.”

“So trying to create worlds that are there here, imagining what it could be like, still keeping it Indian and not make it look like a Blade Runner,” he added.

Kalki 2898 AD is slated to be released worldwide on June 27, 2024.

In conclusion, several South Indian movies are making their way to the theaters in June 2024. Therefore, it would be interesting to watch their box office clash.

It’s an understandable reaction by a grieving father, even one who didn’t know his son. But as Daniel extends his stay to investigate further, he seems to become more and more obsessed. He introduces himself to Alice ( Diane Kruger ), the teacher with whom Allen was besotted, and asks her if she somehow encouraged him. Not surprisingly, she’s offended by the question, and refuses his request to accompany him to visit Allen’s grave. When he goes alone, he strikes up a friendship with a man tending to the grave of his teenage daughter who recently committed suicide.

The next day, Alice arrives at her classroom to discover Daniel sitting among the students. He informs her that the principal had given him permission to be there and asks if he can sit in the same chair once occupied by his son.

Even as Daniel learns more and more shocking things about his son and behaves in increasingly outlandish fashion, such as sitting for hours on the same bench outside the teacher’s apartment building that Allen had perched on to the point of stalking, he never wavers from his too-late devotion.

By the time he proposes a wedding between his late son and the dead daughter of the man he met at the cemetery, viewers will be left shaking their heads. That is, if they haven’t already mentally checked out after the fantasy scene in which Daniel imagines he and his son watching a giant, nude Alice pleasuring herself on the roof of the school building, the same vision Allen had described in his poem.

It doesn’t help that Gere delivers such a recessive, understated performance that we’re never able to connect emotionally with his character, which is as much the filmmaker’s fault as the actor’s. Instead of being drawn in by Daniel’s spiral, we observe it from a distance. The result is that Longing , presumably intended as a cathartic meditation on grief, simply feels absurd.
