Tesla made an annual profit of $12.6 billion in 2022, high operating margins and good sales growth are responsible, tesla says..

Jonathan M. Gitlin - Jan 25, 2023 10:16 pm UTC

Tesla CEO Elon Musk speaks during the unveiling of the new Tesla Model Y in Hawthorne, California on March 14, 2019.

Tesla published its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2022 on Wednesday afternoon. The company brought in $24.3 billion in revenue, a 37 percent increase on Q4 2021. Automotive revenues accounted for the lion's share—$21.3 billion, a 33 percent increase from Q4 2021. That translated to $3.7 billion in net profit once generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) were applied—an impressive 59 percent increase from Q4 2021.

That means Tesla had an excellent 2022, despite missing its sales forecast. Automotive revenues grew by 51 percent compared to 2021, bringing in $71.5 billion. Total revenues were up by the same percentage year over year at $81.4 billion. Operating expenses accounted for $7.2 billion, and once GAAP was applied, Tesla ended the year with a net profit of $12.6 billion. Free cash flow dropped by 49 percent to $1.4 billion.

Tesla recognized revenue for its highly controversial "Full Self Driving" assist this year after making the beta open to all Tesla owners—provided they paid $15,000. However, despite CEO Elon Musk's claims that the financial future of the company depends upon FSD, in 2022 that only translated to $324 million. Tesla's financial presentation does claim that "we expect to recognize nearly $1 billion of deferred revenue that remains for such customers over time as software updates are delivered." Elsewhere in its financial presentation, it claims that there are approximately 400,000 FSD users in the US and Canada.

Regulatory credits for clean vehicles played a more significant but still minor role in the company's profitability, contributing $1.8 billion to the bottom line. That's a 21 percent increase from 2021 and the most money Tesla has made from regulatory credits, despite fears that the introduction of EVs from traditional OEMs would cause this to dry up. Perhaps to this end, the company says it is working hard to avoid having to deliver so many of its cars in the third month of each quarter.

As we reported earlier this month , in 2022 Tesla built 1,369,611 cars, 1,298,434 of which were either Models 3 or Y. That's a 43 percent increase in production for those models year over year. But it was only able to find homes for 1,313,851 cars in total—while that was a 40 percent increase year over year, it was less than the 50 percent year-over-year growth the automaker promised investors. What's more, it means Tesla is sitting on nearly 56,000 unsold EVs.

Tesla's solar business had a flat 2022, growing by just 1 percent year over year in terms of deployed solar megawatts. But it deployed 6.5-gigawatt hours of battery storage, a 64 percent growth from last year.

In its outlook statement, Tesla remains optimistic and reiterates its goal of 50 percent annual growth, albeit with a caveat that "some years we may grow faster and some we may grow slower." For 2023 it says it will deliver 1.8 million cars. Tesla also claims that it's in the tooling stage for its Cybertruck pickup, which will go into production in Texas later this year.

Tesla AI Day 2022: Everything You Need To Know

We’ll be running updates on tesla ai day right here as they happen. bookmark this page and stay up to date on the announcements as they happen on september 30th..

01:14 (PT) - Today’s the day! Tesla AI is finally here and according to Elon Musk we can expect “lots of technical detail and cool hardware demos” in the live stream later today.

The most anticipated demonstration will surely be Optimus, the Tesla humanoid robot. All eyes will be peeled to see just how far they’ve managed to take the development of the ambitious project.

The livestream is expected to begin at 5pm PT and will be live from the Tesla YouTube account.

06:15 - 50,000 watching. It starts with the robot hand, counting down from 5 fingers to 1 finger, then the international love sign is displayed.

06:19 - “Should we bring out the bot?” Arms move, it starts walking, now it’s dancing. Reiterates, “the first time the robot operates untethered is onstage tonight.”

06:22 - Queue up the robot video, including mixed footage of the robot in action and renderings of the robot’s pov.

06:23 - We get a view of the Optimus Production Unit 1 with independently moving fingers, so they can use tools and do “useful things.” It is designed with the same discipline used to design Tesla vehicles, to cost much less than a car, estimated to retail for less than $20,000.

06:27 - Elon states that an “economy becomes quasi-infinite,” and draws an abstract of a fundamental transformation of civilization with no limitations. Reiterates the idea that Tesla is public traded and draws a blurred vision that the Tesla corporate entity is designed in such a way that the public can influence it by buying shares. “It’s very important that people know I can’t just do what I want. The public can properly influence what happens.”

06:33 - Technical breakdown of the Optimus, planned design and technical refinements including actuators, electronics, battery pack, and the bot brain.

06:36 - Video showing crash tests of Tesla vehicles that give way to crash testing for robots, a primer on robot safety and protecting the environment around the robot (including us humans and our pets, presumably). Plus a technical breakdown of the knee which is a four-bar link actuator.

06:43 - Journalist walks to kitchen for a glass of water, almost trips over child’s toy, ponders actuators, and wishes he had a Optimus robot to fetch water.

06:45 - Detailed description of different actuator configurations, leading into a video of a Tesla actuator lifting a half ton classical piano. Human agility is reduced to mechanical and software models.

06:47 - Hands: Six actuators and eleven degrees of freedom with sensors that add up to both fine motor skills and superhuman strength.

06:50 - Visual navigation: Software, that was designed for vehicle autopilot technology over the past few years. “We’ve built a car on wheels and this is the same thing except it’s a car on legs.”

06:53 - Locomotion planning: Walking seems easy but there are some aspects of walking that are challenging from an engineering perspective. Physical self-awarness, energy efficient gait, balance, coordinated motion. The robot doesn’t just plan it’s trajectory based on its destination, it plans many steps ahead and then dynamically reacts to the environment as it changes.

06:57 - Manipulation: Braking this down with demonstrations, they’ve created a library of motions.

07:00 - Shift to self-driving beta. Camera streams feed neural networks that run on the car itself - no servers of course. Every Tesla that has been built has the hardware to drive itself, we have been working on the software.

07:06 - All of the above information is fed into the planning system, currently running in 14,000 GPUs running in clusters around the country. Intra-object dependencies help account for a pedestrian crossing the road unexpectedly while other vehicles move at varying speeds down the road. Planner makes a decision every 50 milliseconds.

07:14 - Occupancy network combines all of the environmental input from cameras, sensors that all add up to 3D spacial maps that update every 10 milliseconds, including surface data, to smooth out the ride as the vehicle goes uphill, downhill, navigates bumps, etc.

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024.

07:21 - Video Model Training: Tesla built its own supercomputers to train its self-driving neural networks, accomplishing +30% training speed, doing days worth of work in hours now. Automatic data labeling has played a big role in this speed.

07:49 - Audience members filing out between Tesla engineers who are remarkably deep in the weeds. What better way to entice top talent than to put Tesla’s engineers on stage to share their work?

08:00 - Dojo! Abandoned D Ram for S Ram, following a “no limits” philosophy. 14 versions in 24 months, having brought these processes in-house has resulted in unprecedented power and cooler density at a fraction of the cost.

What is Tesla AI Day?

Tesla’s AI day is their annual showcase of the latest technology across the company’s various business units. While Tesla vehicles gain the majority of the press coverage, they have a wide range of different applications and products that they continue to develop and refine.

You can think of it kind of like Apple’s annual release event, but with more of a focus on what is to come in the future. Apple announces iPhones that are ready for purchase the next week, AI announces on technology that may still be years away from full release.

Over time, Tesla’s AI is becoming a larger and larger event, with a livestream that’s watched by millions across the globe.

Investors or potential investors tune in to find out the new ways Tesla is looking to generate revenue for the company. The tech obsessed watch to see how Tesla is pushing the envelope in bringing new and exciting innovations to the market.

Some just watch because they know that Elon Musk always puts on a show.

Regardless of the reason, we can expect the Tesla AI day on September 30th 2022 to bring some surprises and new ideas into the public eye.

More on Tesla AI Day

How to watch tesla ai day.

Tesla AI Day was held on September 30th 2022 in Palo Alto, California. Here is a video of the 2022 live stream:

What can we expect to see at Tesla AI Day 2022?

The first big clue was that the date for AI Day has been pushed back by six weeks, with the aim to have a prototype of Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, up and running.

Elon Musk tweeted on June 3rd to announce that the date would be moved from the original planned date of August 19th.

Eyes will be peeled to see whether we’re offered a glimpse of the new innovation. The project was initially announced at last years’ AI Day. In typical Elon Musk fashion, it arrived with some fanfare that generated mass press coverage across the globe.

A human shaped figure came dancing on the stage, and while the shiny suit and robot style moves gave the appearance of a major robotics innovation, it quickly became clear that it was, in fact, a guy in a robot suit.

Nevertheless, Musk went on to explain that the vision was to create a humanoid robot capable of completing many of the mundane, repetitive or dangerous tasks of everyday life, such as picking groceries from the shelves or completing routine maintenance in dangerous locations.

The image accompanying the announcement on Twitter also lends itself to a day where Optimus is the highlight, with two robot hands making the influencers calling sign, a heart.

We’d also expect to see some new information on Tesla’s own microchip, Dojo. This is a supercomputer which will power the future generations of Tesla products, which was initially announced at last year's event.

It has been built from the ground up by Tesla, and is focused on ‘pure machine learning’. This means it isn’t backwards compatible with existing products on the market, but has been specially designed to power the next generation of AI-based technology.

We could expect to see further information on the practical applications of the new chip and the uses for the new processing power and machine learning specialization.

Another announcement that seems many years ahead of its time is the Robotaxi. This is, admittedly, an early stage technology that Musk has stated will become a combination of “Uber and AirBnb.”

The idea is that once Tesla is finally able to crack fully self-driving vehicles (and the incredibly high regulatory hurdles can be jumped) the option will open up for owners to release their vehicles in their downtime.

Rather than having a vehicle parked up on the street or in a garage overnight, owners could send their car out on the road to offer taxi services, generating passive income while they sleep.

It may seem like pie in the sky thinking, but if anyone can bring it closer to reality, its Elon Musk and Tesla.

Fully Self Driving (FSD) Beta

An update on Robotaxi may come alongside the latest on the fully self-driving technology, which has proven to be controversial.

Musk had initially stated that he expects to have 1 million Robotaxi’s by the end of the year, but walked these comments down to now say he expects to have 1 million vehicles in Fully Self Driving (FSD) Beta by the end of the year.

Either way, fully autonomous vehicles are inching ever closer to reality, and we can hope to see updates on this space at AI Day.

Epic Startup Pitch Deck Presentation

Tesla is a constant surge of news. From the electric car for the masses with accessible price points to the newest model being launched in 2021, Tesla Motors' latest insights over the past few days include being ready to join the S&P 500 at S&P Dow Jones. Reserved for leaders in top industries, this is an exclusive market-cap-weighted index in the stock market.

But what did a company like Tesla do when it came down to starting financials? Let's take a look at Tesla's pitch deck presentation, shall we?

We'll also share insights on our revamped, fully customizable Tesla pitch deck template with you.

Tesla motors pitch deck analysis and its template

Introduction.

Tesla's opening slide ensures quality branding. Just look at the logo, its positioning, the letter format, and you've got a straight image of Tesla's offer. Aim to do the same for the first impression of your company branding.

On the second slide, the team literally showed all the faces that make everything happen. A powerful title shows a team slide isn't just about introducing a team. It's about showing people that your team is stellar. That you grouped the best selection possible for your market and niche. The slide opens up with CEO Elon Musk introducing CTO, CFO, VPs, and Chief Designer. Make sure you highlight your team's strengths. This should be a slide to show off.

By the way, if it doesn't feel like you've got just that winning group behind your business idea, it might be worth looking a bit further into it. Get mentors, business partners, and experienced investors, or simply change your slides to highlight current strengths.

The third slide of this pitch deck is all about visualizing company growth over time. Tesla's decision was to display that through an area of focus. And they went for causing an impression with a bar chart to show their engineering team's growth over quarters per 3 areas. Highlighting specific fields is still very visual. Choose an area of significant growth for your company to date to fill this slide. And style it to cause an impression.

Collaborations

For the following three slides, Tesla showed off their collaborations with other big brands. The first one with whom they collaborated was Toyota. Highlight how much money is involved in any collaboration you wish to include. And specify what the deal involves.

Tesla's collaboration with Toyota

In Tesla's particular case, coming together with Toyota had to do with developing a fully integrated powertrain with battery and other features on expected revenue of $60M. Yet, they also included mentions of contracts for specific car models, for example. And added dates of already envisioned prototype showings and more.

Tesla's collaboration with Panasonic

Tesla's collaboration with Panasonic came on the following slide. And they decided to highlight long-term relationships with the brand and low costs plus improvements in cell development. See how they added a quote on this slide, especially. And they went for one by their partner, Panasonic's CTO, in their collaboration.

Tesla's collaboration with Daimler

The third collaboration slide regards a deal with Daimler. Most commonly known as Mercedes Benz, the companies focus on developing electric cars' battery packs and chargers. What Tesla does here is show the number of sales and its growth over the last 3 quarters.

Specificity on a model

The seventh slide on the deck is devoted to the Roadster model and its worldwide positioning. This slide concisely makes it clear just how well-positioned their product is on a global scale. And it does so in a way that's very straightforward on a visual level. They just literally show how this Tesla car model is positioned around the world.

They refer to images, a map, and a textbox that highlights the number of people who are driving the car around the planet. They also highlight all of the new locations they're opening up for sale.

Model S Slide

The next five slides are also devoted to a primary product. And that refers to another car model labeled as model S. For this five-slide pack, they dedicated a full slide to show a high-quality image of their product. In it, they used just a phrase of the most critical aspect of this model.

The next one gives more information on what makes this a great model, including unique features and performance. What we value here is whatever wows an audience.

The third slide on this model includes information on cumulative model S reservations over the past 7 quarters. The idea is to show steady growth over a significant period. And the fourth slide goes over the company's chances at a broader market opportunity with other types of cars. Its visuals again highlight the features that make that happen. That's how they bring up the common powertrain, adaptable common platform, and revolutionary packaging into 1 so easily. And the last slide to this set of 5 refers to a clear timeline. They mention what's punctually expected to happen over the next few years.

Highlighting strategic assets

The next 3 slides are devoted to strategic moves, such as a new facility, details on that purchase, and the features it offers. The pluses of that are capacity and advantage for model S production and a map of the facility and its expected distribution aim to make that clearer.

The slide after that includes strategic asset purchases. And the means to show that are again pictures of the most critical parts of the facility.

The last slide in this section is dedicated to a timeline that'll be followed to complete the facility's acquisition and preparation to start functioning.

Final deck slide

The last slide to Tesla's pitch deck template deck goes back to the beginning of the presentation. What we do is wrap up with a strong image of the brand in a high-quality photo. In this case, that ties back to a car's inside. And that might perhaps just be the primary commodity for their kind of sales.

Tesla Pitch Deck

Founded in 2003, Tesla strives to build a sustainable energy ecosystem that helps the world move towards a zero-emission future. Today, hundreds of thousands of drivers in the United States get behind the wheel of Tesla’s groundbreaking electric vehicles, which make up nearly 80% of the entire market.

Tesla went public in 2010, creating a pitch deck to win over investors. It worked — and is now worth more than the remaining six top car companies combined. But the presentation called for an enhanced design that matches the innovation, technology, and intelligent design that Tesla is known for. Enter: a revamped Tesla pitch deck that’s as forward-thinking as the engineers behind the brand.

Use this Tesla pitch deck template to create your own presentations for:

How to create your own pitch deck presentation

Creating a powerful presentation doesn’t mean you have to start from scratch every single time. Using this template — and the following tips — you can create a presentation that’s as sharp and sophisticated as the Tesla pitch deck.

Don’t bury the most important aspects of your presentation. Dive right in with the information your audience needs to know.

The longer your presentation, the higher the chances of losing your audience’s interest (and investment).

Ensure the order of your slides tells a cohesive story that’s easy to follow and has a clear beginning, middle, and end.

You can tell a story using more than just words. Include charts, graphics, videos, and photos to create a presentation that’s more interesting and attention-grabbing.

Tesla releases Q2 2024 vehicle safety report

' src=

Tesla has released its Q2 2024 vehicle safety report . The report hints that Teslas are still among the safest cars on the road today, and this is in no small part due to the safety provided by innovations such as Autopilot and Full Self-Driving.

As per Tesla, it believes that a “unique combination of passive safety, active safety, and automated driver assistance is crucial for keeping not just Tesla drivers and passengers safe, but all drivers on the road.” This combination seems to be working for the company as the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y have achieved among the  lowest overall probability of injury  of any vehicles ever tested by the United States’ New Car Assessment Program.

Tesla’s combination of passive and active safety features and advanced driver-assist systems seemed to have made a difference in the second quarter of 2024. As per Tesla’s Q2 vehicle safety report, it recorded one crash for every 6.88 million miles driven in which Autopilot technology was used. For Tesla drivers who were not using Autopilot, one crash was recorded for every 1.45 million miles driven. Recent data from the NHTSA and FHWA indicates that in the U.S., one crash was recorded for every 670,000 miles of driving.

“In the 2nd quarter, we recorded one crash for every 6.88 million miles driven in which drivers were using Autopilot technology. For drivers who were not using Autopilot technology, we recorded one crash for every 1.45 million miles driven. By comparison, the most recent data available from  NHTSA and  FHWA (from 2022) shows that in the United States there was an automobile crash approximately every 670,000 miles,” Tesla wrote in its vehicle safety report.

Tesla also shared its vehicle fire incident data . As per the electric vehicle maker, between 2012 and 2022, about one Tesla vehicle fire event happened for every 130 million miles traveled. This is notably less than the NFPA and U.S. Department of Transportation’s data, which indicated that one vehicle fire occurs in the United States for every 18 million miles traveled. Tesla noted that its vehicle fire data is actually quite conservative as it includes “fire events that are caused by structure fires, wildfires, arson, and other causes unrelated to the vehicle.”

1 Key Number That Could Send Caterpillar Stock Higher

  • Caterpillar's sales are declining, but its profits are growing.
  • Caterpillar's price realization has been exceptional this year.
  • If margin improvements prove structural, Caterpillar's stock could get a valuation uplift.

Caterpillar

Caterpillar Stock Quote

The company is exceeding its own expectations in 2024.

Long-term investors in Caterpillar ( CAT -0.62% ) already know it's a cyclical company whose revenue and profit margins bounce around with its end markets. That knowledge won't stop traders from trying to guess the timing of the cycle. That's fair enough, but longer-term investors will want to focus on the key things that can change Caterpillar's long-term value, so here's a look at one of them.

Caterpillar's cyclical revenue, margins, and earnings

First, a graphical depiction of Caterpillar's cyclical revenue is useful. Note that its operating profit margin tends to follow revenue, leading to wild swings in its profits. When construction, mining, energy, and transportation spending on machinery is booming in response to strong construction activity, relatively high mining commodity and energy prices, and transportation spending, Caterpillar's profits boom; and they slump when these markets reverse.

CAT Revenue (TTM) Chart

CAT Revenue (TTM) data by YCharts

Most investors know this, and the following points should be noted:

  • Acknowledging the cyclicality, management's guidance includes a variety of outcomes for revenue and margins.
  • Just as investors shouldn't price in a valuation for Caterpillar based on peak earnings, they shouldn't do so for trough earnings; a balanced approach is needed.

Caterpillar's cyclical guidance

Management gave a range of operating margins as a function of revenue in its Investor Day presentation in 2022, and it also said that free cash flow ( FCF ) generation through the cycle would range between $4 billion and $8 billion.

Fast forward to the fourth quarter of 2023 and management saw fit to raise the high end of the margin ranges by 100 basis points (100 basis points equals 1%). The new ranges are shown below. In addition, management raised its estimate for FCF through the cycle to between $5 billion and $10 billion.

Management's 2024 guidance

Caterpillar's recent results were mixed. Management now expects revenue to be slightly lower than the $67 billion reported in 2023 but "adjusted operating profit margin to be above the top end of the target range."

Consequently, Wall Street analysts are assuming $66 billion in revenue for 2024. Now, let's crunch some numbers to see the significance of the margin ranges and the abovementioned changes. As you can see below, the Wall Street consensus (in line with management's latest guidance) implies a profit that's 19% above the profit implied in the midpoint of the guidance on the investor day in 2022.

The increase in operating margin matters, and if Caterpillar can maintain this momentum, its management could raise its expectations for margins and FCF throughout the cycle.

To illustrate how this might impact valuations, consider FCF (a function of profit and profit margins). One way to avoid the dangers of using peak or trough earnings or cash flow is to price Caterpillar at the midpoint of its FCF guidance. In this case, it's the midpoint of $5 billion to $10 billion, or $7.5 billion. Using a multiple of, say, 20 times FCF gives a target market cap of $150 billion, 6% below the current market cap.

However, Caterpillar's margin and FCF expectations could rise over time, leading to a valuation expansion and upside for the stock.

Are Caterpillar's margin and free-cash-flow generation rising?

As already noted, this is a down year for sales, but margins are coming in above the target range given in the fourth quarter of 2023. One reason for this comes down to the fantastic job Caterpillar is doing with price realization in terms of operating profit. This represents the incremental profit generated by raising the price of the same product and is distinct from the incremental profit from selling more products at the same price (sales volume).

The chart below shows how price realization offset sales volume declines in terms of profits even as overall sales turned negative.

To be clear, management expects "flattish price realization in the third quarter versus the prior year due to" improved product availability. Still, the outlook for margins to exceed the high end of the range illustrates how strong price realization has been this year.

However, given the startling performance on pricing and how that translates to improved margin and cash flow performance, It's possible Caterpillar could be seeing a structural improvement in margins, which could lead to an upside for the stock.

San Jose Man Sentenced To Nearly Three Years For Defrauding Investors Of $4.7 Million

SAN FRANCISCO – Joon Woo Kim was sentenced today to 33-months in prison for two fraud schemes – the first, a scheme to mislead investors to contribute millions to an electric vehicle investment fund he formed in San Francisco, and the second, a scheme to obtain multi-million dollar business loans by lying to a bank – announced United States Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey and FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert K. Tripp.  The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge James Donato.

On March 4, 2024, Kim, 58, of San Jose, Calif., pleaded guilty to two fraud charges against him, one count of committing wire fraud and the other for making false statements to a bank to obtain a loan.  The first fraud scheme occurred from June 2015 through March 2022 and involved creating and running an investment fund that Kim named the M5 Doctors Fund.  Kim admitted in his plea agreement that he ran the M5 Doctors Fund, along with a separate management entity M5 Management, with the intent to deceive investors.  Kim represented to investors that he would invest the funds of the M5 Doctors Fund in securities of electric vehicle companies, including Tesla, and would always invest only in publicly traded securities.  Instead, Kim transferred nearly all the millions invested by investors in the M5 Doctors Fund into a failing private company called CKR Enterprise, Inc. (CKR).  CKR was a wholesale food distribution company operated by Kim and his wife and owned by them, among others.

Kim defrauded investors out of $4,690,000 due to his transfer of the M5 Doctors Fund assets to CKR.  While this was occurring, Kim continued to mislead investors by sending quarterly reports to them suggesting their money was invested in public securities such as Tesla.

Kim engaged in a second fraud scheme in which he defrauded Hanmi Bank by applying for two loans for CKR, a $1,300,000 line of credit and a $3,200,000 business loan.  Kim admitted the bank loan application contained materially false and fraudulent representations.  Based on those representations, Kim obtained the proceeds of these loans.

In a memorandum filed for the sentencing hearing, the government argued that Kim gained the trust of his investors due to his impressive profile, which included multiple Ivy League degrees and extensive investment experience.  Many M5 Doctors Fund investors were non-profit institutions that could invest only in public securities and would not have invested with Kim if they knew the truth, that is, that Kim transferred their money to a private company owned by Kim and his wife.  The government pointed out that while Kim drained this fund, he continued to deceive his investors into believing the fund still had money that it no longer had.

A federal grand jury charged Kim on June 27, 2023, with multiple counts of wire fraud, bank fraud, and making a false statement to a bank.  In his plea agreement, Kim pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1343, and one count of making a false statement to a bank, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1014.

In addition to the 33-month term of imprisonment, U.S. District Judge James Donato sentenced the defendant to a three-year period of supervision following his release from prison and ordered Kim to pay more than $4.7 million in restitution to his victims.  Kim was ordered as one condition of his supervised release to make at least three 30-minute presentations to university MBA classes to inform students about the consequences of engaging in fraudulent business practices and behaviors.

Kim was ordered to surrender into custody on September 3, 2024.

Chris Highsmith is the Assistant U.S. Attorney prosecuting the case, with the assistance of Tina Rosenbaum and Aarian Beti and Victim Specialist Alicia Guevara.  The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the FBI.

Workshop in Brac, Croatia Organisers J. F. Geleyn (ALADIN), J. Onvlee (HIRLAM), D. Klaric (RC LACE), P. Termonia (Belgium), C. Fisher (France) Participants About 23 particpants from ALADIN, AROME, HIRLAM, LACE groups and D. Majewski (COSMO) T. Davies (UKMO) E. Kallen (ECMWF)

Organisation of BRAC-HR Monday: Plenary with several key note lectures Tuesday and Wednesday: Working group meetings • WG1: Dynamical cores‘ development • WG2: Upper air physics • WG3: Physics – dynamics interface • WG4: Validation and verification • WG5: Nesting, LBC, coupling • WG6: Surface modelling Thursday: Reports of WGs and draft of standpoints

Outcome of BRAC-HR • „Official“ 12+6 page report by the organizing committee (probably mainly written by J. F. Geleyn) dated 20/08/2010 • This report distinguishes between: - areas of broad consensus (6 pages) - areas of divergence of opions (5 ½ pages) - attempt of a synthesis for future steps (1 page)

Areas of broad consensus At high resolution, stochastic point of view more and more important Increased sophistication for process description primarily for microphysics of precipitation and cloud-determination scheme(s) Some 3D-effects of radiation like slope and shadow of clouds Improvements of physics-dynamics interface needed For verification: Radar and satellite data Onset of (airmass) convection is one of the most fundamental problems to be solved

Areas with divergence of opinions Detailed priorities for the necessary evolutions of the diagnostic – validation – verification toolkit Evolution or substitution of the current AROME spectral SI/SL dycore; two extreme solutions: Spectral SI/SL vs. gridpoint RK (like WRF, COSMO) Relative priority to be asigned to the dynamical core issues (Météo France participants (F. Bouttier and C. Lac; see also paper by P. Benard and C. Lac) argue that the current dycore is the cause of the problems; J. F. Geleyn and many other participants (but not the COSMO representative) blame missing lateral mixing.

Summary and outlook Deep internal controversy between Météo France, ALADIN and HIRLAM about the cause of the problems of the current AROME and how to tackle them. To shed some light on the problem: - Run Weisman/Klemp (1982) test with AROME and COSMO-Model. - Compare operational forecasts of AROME and COSMO for common areas (Southwestern Germany, Netherlands, Belgium).

Tesla posts job listing for the 1950s-style diner Elon Musk has proposed building

tesla presentation 2022

In line with Elon Musk’s increasing rhetoric on X of going back to the good old days, Tesla looks like it’s finally getting ready to open its 1950s-style diner.

Tesla is seeking a Tesla Diner Experience Specialist in Los Angeles to work with the charging operations team to ensure “exceptional customer experience at the Tesla Diner,” according to a job posting on LinkedIn , first spotted by the blog Drive Tesla Canada.

The job post comes three years after Tesla filed three trademarks for its brand under restaurant services and seven years after Musk began publicly discussing the idea of a Tesla charging station-meets-diner.

Tesla posted the job two weeks ago on LinkedIn, and it received 26 applications before the automaker stopped accepting résumés. While the job posting doesn’t provide a timeline for opening, it gives other clues about the Tesla Diner. For example, it looks like Musk is making good on his promise to include a drive-in movie theater.

In 2018, Musk tweeted : “Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA.” He followed up with: “And an outdoor screen that plays a highlight reel of the best scenes in movie history.”

Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 7, 2018

Hopefully it won’t just be Tropic Thunder on repeat.

The experience specialist will manage the drive-in movie schedule and content changes, as well as a host of other digital tasks. The job description details how the role will work with several Tesla teams, including design studio, merchandise, UI, app, procurement and leadership, and external vendors, to handle everything from rolling out new menus to selling Tesla merch.

The Diner’s location will be at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, according to PropertyShark data . The property is classed as a one-story restaurant/cocktail lounge/tavern, but videos detailing construction on the site appear to show a two-story building. Building plans reveal that Tesla intends to operate the restaurant and charging station 24/7, but the two outdoor movie screens will be limited to 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. There will be about 30 Tesla supercharging stations.

Musk described the diner in August 2023 as “Grease meets The Jetsons with Supercharging” and said it “should be ready later this year.” The billionaire executive is known for his over-ambitious timelines. Earlier this year, he said Tesla’s robotaxi would be revealed in August, but pushed back that date to October .
