My mom passed away three and a half years ago. She had been suffering from serious illness for quite some time and the doctors had told us countless times she had few months left to live. In the end, it seemed that the doctors always underestimated her fighting spirit and luck. A month before her death, the doctor again predicted she had about a month to live but I didn’t take it seriously since the predictions had become a routine. In addition, I was about four months pregnant with my third child and me and my husband, Max wanted to believe my mom would live long enough to see our third child.

My mom lived about five hours drive away from us. I did discuss with Max and my mom if I should move with her but they both suggested it would be best for me to take care of my own health so that I have a healthy baby. My mom assured me that this prediction would be no different from the previous ones and moreover, one of my sisters is already with her. Somehow I still wanted to move with my mom because I knew I would not be able to bear the regret should the prediction come true but in the end my mom and Max won.

It was the night of our seventh wedding anniversary and it was heavy rain outside. I called my grandma to ask about my mom as well as remind them of our wedding anniversary and my grandma informed me my mom had just passed away. Upon hearing the news, I went numb for a moment. I don’t think I have ever struggled with my emotions the way I did that night. I cried but at the same time I could not stop worrying about the effect of depression on my body and the wellbeing of my unborn baby. I wanted to suppress my regret that I obeyed my mom but the excuse didn’t seem to work. It seemed that the law of probability had gone berserk. What’s the probability of doctor’s prediction of one month becoming exactly true after five years of wrong predictions and that too, at the night of our wedding anniversary and during my pregnancy. I was overwhelmed with conflicting desires; I wanted to embrace the loss bravely for the sake of my family but at the same time I also wanted to cry to my heart’s content. But may be life is not meant to be predictable. Pain is as much part of life as is happiness. We often feel we are the luckiest people in the world to have wonderful families, friends, and other blessings in life but like happiness, sometimes pain also comes in abundance. That day I learnt that in life, one should expect the best but prepare for the worst!

Every person has embarrassing days that one regrets or does not want to recall under any circumstances. These memories make us feel awkward and blame ourselves for what we have done wrong or not adequately. People prefer not to tell their relatives, friends, and colleagues about these moments as they are afraid that the society’s opinion about them might change in a blink of an eye. As we grow up, our views on life change and these stories become good memories that give us life experience. Nowadays I am glad to share various awkward cases with other people. The following paper will discuss the most embarrassing day of my life and will demonstrate how my views on lives have been changing since childhood.

The most embarrassing day of my life was when I was a child. I did not understand every aspect of people’s relationships and values at the age of seven yet. I believe that there are many people in the world who regret particular events or days of their adolescence (Widen 188). However, it was a regular Sunday when my family and I went to church. While the pastor was preaching, I was searching through his wife’s purse as she was sitting next to me. When I found the lady’s camera, I took it and went to the Sunday school with this device. My friends and I were playing with the stolen camera, and I did not tell my peers where it came from. However, the pastor’s family lived in our neighborhood. When my parents found out about the case described above, they made me go to the pastor’s house, apologize, and return the camera to his wife. When I was a child, I did not feel embarrassed about that incident, but now I realize what my parents felt that day.

Unfortunately, that hapless Sunday went on. I heard my mother talking to her auxiliary on a cellular phone. I remember that she was not satisfied with someone’s work, and told her colleague that she would not receive any bonuses this month. I decided to message her auxiliary as I heard her name during their conversation. As I was angry at the person who made my mother nervous, I was rude to that lady in my text. I offended her by using an abusive nickname and told the woman that she will not ever receive any bonuses from now on. Unfortunately, I got my mother in trouble by sending that message. Moreover, I happened to meet her colleague on the same day, and she already knew that it was I who offended her. I felt embarrassed and always avoided looking into the lady’s eyes.

In the evening of the same day, I went to the groceries store that was situated in our neighborhood. I met my classmate on the way there who told me that he has been stealing chips from that store. My mother gave me money to buy one loaf of bread, milk, and some cereal for the next day breakfast, and it was not enough for a package of chips. Therefore, I decided to steal it from the shop, and my friend taught me how. The storekeeper knew my father and asked him to pay for the chips I stole before I came home. My dad made me go to the store again and give the money to his acquaintance.

Usually, people regret their childhood deeds and realize their mistakes when they become adults. Unfortunately, I had some awkward situations in my life that I feel embarrassed about till the present day. These moments emphasize on children’s careless minds and their wrong perception of the surrounding world.

As if the day hadn’t been tough enough, a power outage happened right in the middle of my favorite TV show. It’s not thrilling when the lights go out.

But you know what? Even though it was the worst day ever, I learned some important stuff. It’s not just about the bad stuff; it’s about finding the good lessons hidden in the mess.

Robert Trujillo was announced as Metallica's new bassist on February 24, 2003, following a two-day try-out for the metal giants

Metallica's third proper bass player after Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted deserves all of our praise. First, he's been in the world's biggest metal band since 2003, making him their longest-serving bassist. 

Second, he's an absolute monster bass player, powering through funk, rock and metal styles with ease and panache. Third, he produced a documentary, Jaco , in 2012, telling the tragic story of Jaco Pastorius. Finally, he bought Jaco's famous ‘ Bass Of Doom ’ and restored it to the Pastorius family.

Robert Trujillo's story is one that began not long before the arrival of Metallica's self-titled 1991 album – in the very same city, in fact – when he joined skate-thrash mob Suicidal Tendencies near the end of the '80s.

In 1996, came an even bigger break – and quite possibly the ultimate dream for anyone who grew up listening to Black Sabbath. While Suicidal Tendencies certainly brought him success, joining Ozzy Osbourne's band was the move that enabled him to perform at the top level. 

All of these influences and experiences brought Trujillo to the moment famously documented on Metallica's Some Kind Of Monster film, where he auditioned for the band, annihilated the competition and was given a cool million-dollar advance as a “welcome to the family.”

“One thing about being in Metallica is I've always felt challenged,” Trujillo told Bass Player . “It's a lot easier now than it used to be: when I first joined Metallica, I was kinda struggling! I had to learn over 20 years of catalog, plus the 12 songs from St. Anger which had never really been performed as a unit.

“Then there was that magnitude of press and everything else that goes with being in Metallica. I was juggling all of it.”

In this clip from the Beneath the Bassline documentary, Trujillo spoke about his 2003 audition to replace bassist Jason Newsted, as captured in the 2004 band documentary  Some Kind of Monster .

“It was a two-day audition, but the first day was more fly-on-the-wall,” says Trujillo. “Bob Rock had already recorded bass guitar and he was also producing St Anger , so I’m just there at the studio watching guitar tracks go down.

“The evening rolls around and Lars says, ‘Hey, let’s go get a drink.’ I could hold my own with a few beers, but we end up drinking until 5 in the morning. I wake up with the worst hangover of my life, and now I’ve got to play with Metallica.”

“James is sober. He’s gone through rehab. So I decided I would connect with my bass tech and decide what bass I was going to use, and what amp. 

“What I was really trying to do was get away from Hetfield because I didn’t want him to smell the alcohol on me. Lars was probably just testing me to see how much I could handle, but I just felt like a loser.”

Bassists Pepper Keenan, Jeordie White, Scott Reeder, Eric Avery, Danny Lohner and Chris Wyse – among others – also tried out for the role, but after three months of auditions, Trujillo was officially declared the new bassist.

“Everyone else had the music figured out because they wrote or recorded it, but the new guy needs to do his homework. Any time a band has an archive, it's almost guaranteed that at some point they're going to play an obscure song. The fans are going to call for it, so once I was caught up, it felt easier to adapt.”
