ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਕਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਖਾਸ ਉਮਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਉਮਰ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਬੋਝ ਬਣ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂਗੇ।

ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ : ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਲੇਖ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਾਠ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਅਕਸਰ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਤਮ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਧੀਆ ਕਲਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਸਮਾਂ ਕੱਢਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਨੁਕਸਾਨਦਾਇਕ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤੁਲਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ।

ਜਿਹੜੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਾਲ ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ-ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਮਤਿਹਾਨ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਬੋਝ ਨਾ ਲੱਗੇ।

ਕੁਝ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਾਲ ਭਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਮਤਿਹਾਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕਰਨਗੇ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਗਲਤ ਧਾਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮਾੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਇਹ ਆਦਤ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕਰੀਅਰ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਨੁਕਸਾਨਦੇਹ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬਚਪਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਰਤਣਾ ਸਿਖਾਉਣ। ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੇਡਣ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਰ ਸਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

Introduction to Punjabi!

Punjab, the “Land of Five Rivers,” is home to a rich and diverse civilization that dates back to prehistoric times. Punjabi is the tenth most commonly spoken language in the world and one of the most respected languages in South Asia. More than 130 million around the world speak this language. The Punjabi language is also prominent in South Asian communities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and other Asian and African countries.

A Brief History of Punjab

Punjab is a state in northwest India along the borders of India and Pakistan. “Punjab” is derived from the Persian word “Punj” meaning five and “ab” meaning water. Hence, the literal meaning of Punjab is the “land of five rivers.” The region of Punjab has a rich history due to its geographic location.  As it was the primary entry point into India from abroad, Punjab became the target of various invasions by foreigners, including the Persians, Greeks, Aryans, Egyptians, Afghans, and Mughals. Punjab gradually became a melting pot of different races and ethnic backgrounds, and the distinctive culture and heritage we see today is mainly due to it being the hub of invading empires throughout history. Prior to the partition of 1947, there existed one large Punjab province, encompassing the modern-day Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh, and the present Pakistani state Punjab. Due to it being the home of people of many different religions, the province became the focal point of the partition of India and Pakistan. The partition split the former British Indian Empire into two independent nations: the Western section, consisting predominantly of Muslims, became what is known today as Pakistan, while the Eastern section became India. The partition also split the Punjab province into two, shared by the two newly-formed nations.

Punjabi Language

The people of Punjab, regardless of residing in Eastern or Western Punjab, are known as Punjabis and speak the same language as well, with some variation. Sanskrit is the mother language of the northern region of India from which many languages, including Punjabi, have arisen. Punjabi is the successor to a medieval language Sauraseni Prakrit, which was a language that stemmed from Sanskrit. The dialect of Punjabi emerged from the Sauraseni Apabhramsa. The literacy era of the language flourished during the Bhakti movement. The Punjabi language has many similarities to other languages.  In fact, Punjabi has absorbed numerous words from both Persian and Arabic languages, an indication of the Muslim presence in Punjab from countless invasions and occupations of the province. It is because of these invasions by Persian/Arabic groups that Punjabi has two different forms of the script, Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi. Gurmukhi is influenced by the Sanskrit, whereas the Shahmukhi script is influenced by the Arabic Abjad. This manual will focus on the Gurmukhi script. This blossoming script of Punjabi has dialectal differences based on the region the language is spoken in. Punjabi shares the characteristic of various other languages in that it has different dialects in different geographic regions. Today, over 28 million people speak the eight known dialects.  Majhi is spoken in the heartland of Punjab, spanning from Pakistani Punjab to Indian Punjab. Pothowari is known to be mainly in North Pakistan Punjab.  Jhangochi, also known as Rachnavi, is the eldest and most idiosyncratic dialect of Punjabi, spoken mostly in Pakistan Punjab.  Another dialect mostly known to the Pakistan area of Punjab is Shahpuri, spoken mainly in towns surrounding Shahpur. Hindko is spoken mostly in the Northern Punjab region of Pakistan as well as the North-West Frontier Province. Malwi, Doabi, and Pwadhi are all spoken in Indian Punjab. Malwi is spoken mainly in central and southern Punjab, whereas Doabi is the dialect used in the lands between two rivers (hence “do-ab-i”). Pwadhi is the major dialect spoken in the southern regions of Punjab, in and around the Haryana state. Punjabi has a syllabic script, which means words lack letters and are composed of syllables instead.  The script is made in such a way that each syllable’s sound can be altered with the use of another character in the script, known as the modifier. The script consists of 35 characters, each of which is unique in sound and expression.  This precise system is known as “Painti” (literally meaning thirty-five) and is designed to have patterns in terms of pronunciation and use.

ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਮਾਜਕ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਅਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਇਕਾਈ ਹੈ । ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਜਾਂ ਬੋਲੀ ਤੇ ਭਾਵ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੋਲਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਕੋਈ ਕੌਮ ਜਾਂ ਦੇਸ ਕਿੰਨਾਕ ਉੱਨਤ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਮਾਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਹਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਜਾਂ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਪਤ ਸਿੰਧੂ’ (ਜਮਨਾ, ਸਤਲੁਜ, ਬਿਆਸ, ਰਾਵੀ, ਚਨਾਬ, ਜੇਹਲਮ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਧ ਜਾਂ ਸੱਤਾਂ ਦਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ) ਅਖਵਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ, ਜਮਨਾ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਧ ਦੇ ਨਿਖੇੜਨ ਨਾਲ‘ਪੰਚ ਨਦ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।ਉਪਰੰਤ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ “ਪੰਚ ਨਦ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ‘ਪੰਜਆਬ ਅਥਵਾ “ਪੰਜਾਬ” ਆਖਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨਾਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਸਾਹਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ) ਦਾ ਵਰਨਣ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਨਸ਼ਾਹ ਅਕਬਰ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ ਦੇ ਕਵੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦਾਸ (1656-1686 ਈ.) ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੱਠ – ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਛੰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ‘ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਸ਼ਟਕ’ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਕੀਤਾ।ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਹਿੰਦਵੀ ਜਾਂ ਹਿੰਦਕੋ, ਜਟਕੀ, ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਜਾਂ ਲਾਹੌਰੀ ਆਦਿ ਨਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਸੀ। ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਜਨਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕਸਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ।ਇਹ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਆਖੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਆਰੀਆਂ (ਜੋ ਮਸੀਹ ਤੋਂ ਲਗਭਗ ਤਿੰਨ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਾਬਲ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਥੇ ਆਏ) ਦੀ ਅੰਸ਼ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬੋਲੀ (ਉੱਤਰੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਰ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ) ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਆਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਵੇਦਕ ਬੋਲੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੋਂ ਪੁੰਗਰੀ ਹੈ। ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਵੇਦਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਾਵੜਾਂ (ਆਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀ) ਤੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿੱਤਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਨੇਮ-ਬੱਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਇਹ ਮਾਂਜੀ-ਸਵਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਨੇਮ-ਬੱਧ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਬੋਲੀ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਖਵਾਈ।ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ| ਕੁਝ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆਂ-ਲਿਖਿਆਂ ਪੰਡਤਾਂ ਤੀਕ ਸੰਮਤ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਵੇਗ ਨਾਲ ਪੀਵਰਤਨ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਿਆ।ਉਧਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਨਾਲ ਬਦਲਦੀ ਗਈ।ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੁਝ ਚਿਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੋਹਾਂ, ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਬੋਲੀ, ਵਿਚ ਢੇਰ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਲੋਕ-ਬੋਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਜੀ ਪਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਥਵਾ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੋਲੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।ਵਸੋਂ ਦੇ ਵਧਣ-ਫੈਲਣ ਤੋ ਆਵਾਜਾਈ ਦੇ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮcਦ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਰੂਪ-ਮਹਾਂਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ, ਮਾਗਧੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ, ਸ਼ੋਰਸੈਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ, ਪਿਸ਼ਾਚੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੇ ਪਾਲੀ ਪਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਆਦਿ-ਅਖਵਾਏ।ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਸੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਮਹਾਤਮਾ ਬੁੱਧ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਅਸ਼ੋਕ ਨੇ ਪਾਲੀ ਪਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਹੌਲੀ ਹੌਲੀ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਪਾਕ੍ਰਿਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਹਿੱਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਵੀ ਹੋਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਈ । ਸਾਹਿੱਤ ਰਚੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਕ੍ਰਿਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਵਿਆਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਨੇਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਾਂਗ ਜਨਤਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੀ ਬਦਲਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਟੁਰਨੋਂ ਰਹਿ ਗਈਆਂ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਜਨਤਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ , ਮਾਗਧੀ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼, ਸ਼ੋਰਸੈਨੀ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼, ਪਿਸ਼ਾਚੀ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ ਤੇ ਪਾਲੀ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ ਆਦਿ।ਇਹ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ਾਂ ਇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੀਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਨ।

ਕੁਝ ਚਿਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਸਾਹਿੱਤਕ ਰਚਨਾ ਲਈ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੇਮ-ਬੱਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਇਲਾਕਾਈ ਰੂਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਿੰਨਭਿੰਨ ਨਵੀਨ ਸਾਹਿੱਤਕ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ-ਮਰਾਠੀ, ਬਿਹਾਰੀ, ਬੰਗਾਲੀ, ਉੜੀਸੀ, ਅਸਾਮੀ, ਪੂਰਬੀ-ਪੱਛਮੀ ਹਿੰਦੀ, ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨੀ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, ਗੁਜਰਾਤੀ, ਸਿੰਧੀ ਤੇ ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰੀ ਆਦਿ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ।

ਉੱਪਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਵੇਦਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਹੈ। ਭਾਵੇਂ ਅੱਜਕਲ੍ਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਵੇਦਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਔਲਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਹ ਨਵੀਨ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਪੜਾਵਾਂ-ਵੇਦਕ, ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ, ਪਾਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੇ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ ‘ਚੋਂ ਲੰਘੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਸੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਕੁਝ ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਇ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਲਗਭਗ ਅੱਠਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਸ਼ੋਰਸੈਨੀ ਤੇ ਪਿਸ਼ਾਚੀ ਅਪਭੰਸ਼ਾਂ ‘ਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅੱਠਵੀਂ, ਨੌਵੀ ਤੇ ਦਸਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਚੀ ਗਈ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਰੰਗਨ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ । ਬਾਬਾ ਫ਼ਰੀਦ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬਾਰਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਨਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਮੰਜ਼ਲਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਸੀ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੀ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਰਬੀ-ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਿਆ। ਅਰਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੱਤਸਮ ਅਤੇ ਤਦਭਵ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨੇ ਅਪਣਾ ਲਏ; ਉਦਾਹਰਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ, ਇਸ਼ਕ, ਖ਼ਾਕ, ਇਖ਼ਲਾਕ, ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ, ਚਮਚਾ, ਕੈਂਚੀ, ਔਰਤ, ਸਲਵਾਰ, ਪਜਾਮਾ, ਚਿਲਮ, ਜੁਰਾਬ, ਮੁਰੱਬਾ, ਕਿਤਾਬ, ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼, ਕਲਮ, ਦਵਾਤ, ਫ਼ਰਸ਼, ਸਿਆਹੀ, ਪਿਆਲਾ, ਸ਼ਰਾਬ, ਸ਼ਰਬਤ, ਸ਼ਾਇਰ, ਹਕੀਮ ਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਦਿ।

ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਸਾਮਰਾਜੀ ਸਨ।ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਵੈਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਝਟਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਹੁਰਾ ਗੁੜ ਵਿਚ ਗਲੇਫ਼ ਕੇ ਦੇਣਾ ਸੌਖਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਨੀਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਰਮ ਗ੍ਰੰਥਾਂ ਤਕ ਸੀਮਤ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਲਈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਰਦੂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਧਿਅਮ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਨੀਤੀ ਸਫ਼ਲ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਛਾਪ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਹਰ ਪੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨੇ ਅਰਬੀ-ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾ ਲਿਆ। ਅੱਜ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ, ਇਉਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੋਣ ਹੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ; ਪੇਂਟ, ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ, ਹਸਪਤਾਲ, ਸਾਈਕਲ, ਕੋਟ, ਕਲਰਕ,ਜੱਜ, ਪੈਨਸਲ, ਸਟੂਲ, ਕਾਪੀ, ਅਫ਼ਸਰ, ਕਮੇਟੀ, ਮੈਂਬਰ, ਨੋਟਸ, ਮੀਟਰ , ਡਾਕਟਰ, ਫੋਟੋ, ਬੱਲਬ, ਟੈਲੀਫ਼ੋਨ, ਹਾਕੀ, ਟੀਮ, ਪਲੇਟ, ਕੱਪ ਤੇ ਬੈਂਕ ਆਦਿ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

ਆਖਰ 1947 ਈ. ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡਮੁੱਲੀਆਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋਇਆ।ਅਜ਼ਾਦੀ Aਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਸੁੱਕੇ ਸੋਮਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਹਿਣਾ ਨਸੀਬ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਛੇਦ 8 ਵਿਚ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ 14 ਵਿਕਸਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ-ਬੋਲੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਮਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲੀ। ਭਾਰਤੀ ਗਣਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਰਾਜਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਛੇਦ 345 ਧੀਨ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਐਕਟ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਹਿੰਦੁਸਤਾਨੀ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ, ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਦਰਜ ਹਨ, ਰਾਜ-ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ, ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ-ਬੋਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਰਜਾ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ, 1967 ਈ. ਤਕ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਿਆ। ਹੁਣ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਉਨਤੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਖੁਲ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਅਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਉੱਨਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਵਰਨਣਯੋਗ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਗ਼ੈਰ-ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਦਕਾ ਅੱਜ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਗੌਰਵ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਦੇਸ-ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਬੋਲਬਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਤੇ ਸਾਹਿੱਤਕ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਹਨ। ਦੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਚੇਤੰਨ ਯਤਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਏ । ਅਜੋਕੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਉੱਪਰ ਬੇਲੋੜੇ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਾਂ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਜ਼ਸ਼ ਨਿੰਦਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਅਜੇ ਤਕ ਇਕਸਾਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਜੋੜ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਏ।

Punjabi language , one of the most widely spoken Indo-Aryan languages . The old British spelling “Punjabi” remains in more common general usage than the academically precise “Panjabi.” In the early 21st century there were about 30 million speakers of Punjabi in India . It is the official language of the Indian state of Punjab and is one of the languages recognized by the Indian constitution. In Pakistan Punjabi is spoken by some 70 million speakers, mostly in Punjab province , but official status at both the national and the provincial level is reserved for Urdu . There are also important overseas communities of Punjabi speakers, particularly in Canada and the United Kingdom —where in the early 21st century they respectively constituted the third and fourth largest linguistic groups in the national populations—as well as in several parts of the United States .

In India, Punjabi is written in the distinctive Gurmukhi script, which is particularly associated with the Sikhs . That script is a member of the Indic family of scripts , written from left to right, but in its organization it differs significantly from the Devanagari used to write Hindi . The Urdu script, written from right to left, is used for writing Punjabi in Pakistan, where it is nowadays often given the imitative name Shahmukhi. Punjabi is thus today one of the very few languages in the world to be written in two quite different and mutually unintelligible scripts.

In spite of Punjabi’s very large numbers of speakers and rich traditions of popular poetry, the standardization of the language was historically inhibited by lack of official recognition as well as by the different cultural preferences of the three main local religious communities of Muslims , Hindus , and Sikhs. Other languages were cultivated for most kinds of writing, including Persian under the Mughal Empire , then Urdu during the British period and, in Pakistan, continuing to the present day. In most other Indo-Aryan-speaking areas of South Asia , the modern period saw overlapping local dialects being grouped into strictly defined provincial languages, but this process has taken much longer to happen in Punjab.

The partition of the subcontinent in 1947 along religious lines was marked by particular violence in Punjab, where ethnic cleansing and exchange of populations resulted in the expulsion of most Punjabi-speaking Muslims from India and of Sikhs and Hindus from Pakistan. Whereas the Muslims had strongly identified with Urdu and the Hindus with Hindi, it was the Sikhs who had particularly identified with the Punjabi cause. The Gurmukhi script was first used to record the Sikh scriptures, the Adi Granth , in 1604. Furthermore, Sikh writers were mainly responsible for developing Punjabi as a modern standard language, and the Sikh political leadership in 1966 finally achieved the goal of an albeit truncated state with Punjabi as its official language.

This officially recognized Indian Punjabi is generally taken as standard in descriptions of the language. There is a significant degree of mutual intelligibility with Hindi and Urdu, although the three languages are sharply differentiated by their scripts, and Punjabi is historically distinguished by its retention of Middle Indo-Aryan (MIA) doubled consonants following a short vowel , so that Sanskrit akshi ‘eye’ becomes MIA akkhi and Punjabi akkh , versus Hindi-Urdu aankh . Phonetically, the most prominent distinctive feature of standard Punjabi is the realization of historical voiced aspiration as tones , so that, for example, Hindi-Urdu ghora ‘horse’ appears in Punjabi as k’òra (with glottal constriction and low-rising tone) and Hindi-Urdu rah ‘way’ as Punjabi rá (with high-falling tone).

In Pakistan the general maintenance of the historical preference for Urdu has stood in the way of those who looked to achieve an increased status for Punjabi, albeit in a form more obviously influenced in its script and vocabulary by Urdu and so itself somewhat different from standard Indian Punjabi. Since Pakistan’s Punjab is much larger and less homogeneous than its Indian counterpart, its internal linguistic variety has also encouraged opposition to the Punjabi activists based in the provincial capital of Lahore by rival groups based in the less prosperous outlying areas of the province, notably by the proponents of Siraiki in the southwestern districts, whose claims to separate linguistic status are vigorously disputed by adherents to the Punjabi cause. There are the usual conflicting claims to the great writers of the past, but all devotees of the Punjabi literary tradition , in both India and Pakistan, find the supreme expression of their shared cultural identity in the rich expression of the Muslim poet Waris (or Varis) Shah’s great romance Hir (1766; also spelled Heer ).

This volume seeks to consider the notion of Punjabiyat , a loosely defined term often used to describe a sentiment of belonging or attachment to Punjab and/or the foundations of a shared, cross-religious, cross-caste, cross-class culture. Is there an ‘idea of Punjab’ or ‘ideas of Punjab’ that help ground—as Punjabi—people from the region, now scattered across the globe? Or that connect those in Indian and Pakistani Punjab, divided by what is for most of them an impermeable border? In other words, despite political, social, religious—indeed, historical—differences, are there notions of Punjabiyat /Punjabiness that constitute Punjab as a region conceptually in history, culture, and practice? The essays in this volume, through their careful analyses of aspects of Punjabi social, cultural, political, and religious history, taken collectively suggest that there are, indeed.

Part of the impetus for this collection is that volumes on Punjabi culture/s or histories—especially of its modern period—have not been commonplace in academic circles. One is more likely to come across titles that delve into specific aspects of its culture or people, for instance works on ‘Sikh religion’ or the ‘Sikh people’, ‘Islamic identity’ or ‘Hindu reform’ in their Punjabi regional context. Such endeavours are entirely valid and reasonable, and perhaps even necessary, but it is difficult to comprehend the elision if not erasure of Punjabi identity from academic writing. Given that it has been easier for diasporic Punjabis to evoke a much wider and an inclusive Punjabi identity than it has been for Punjabis residing in India or Pakistan, one wonders if this elision is yet another result of the political divisions that have marked Punjab’s twentieth-century history? Have these divisions, whether of 1947 or the postcolonial period, made other identity markers more apt or emotionally more satisfying than the idea of belonging/originating/associating with a region? Or could it be that Punjabi identity is particularly open to appropriation, and even incorporation within other identities—for instance Sikh identity in Indian Punjab?

ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ- ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਉਸ ਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਭੇਜ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜਦ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਦਾ ਆਦਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਫਾਈਬਰ ਆਪਟਿਕ ਫੋਨ-ਲਾਈਨਾਂ ਸੈਟੇਲਾਈਟ ਸੰਬੰਧਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਮਾਧਿਅਮਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਹ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਾਧਿਅਮ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਥਾਂ ਬਠ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਾਂ-ਬਾਤਾਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਭੇਜ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ । ਇਹ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਿੜਕੋ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਣਗਣਤ ਰਤਨ ਕੱਢੇ । ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਵਣਜ-ਵਪਾਰ ਦੇ ਅਸੀਮਿਤ ਸ਼ੁੱਭ ਮੌਕੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ । ਇਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਦਾ ਆਦਾਨਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿੱਤਾਕਾਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਬਹੁਮੁੱਲੀ ਤੇ ਅਣਮੁੱਕ ਖਾਣ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਲਾਇਬਰੇਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਰਕਾਈਵਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀਆਂ ਉਂਗਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੋਟਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ । ਵਿਦਵਾਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਧ-ਪੱਤਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਖੋਜ ਤੇ ਵਪਾਰੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬਹੁਮੁੱਲੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ । ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨੀ ਸਾਮੱਗਰੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਤਰ ਵੀ ਛਿਪੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਨਾਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਅਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਜੇਕਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤਾਂ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਸਮੇਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਾਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹੀ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਸਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਦੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਤੇਜ਼, ਸੁਚੇਤ ਤੇ ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਬਣਾਏਗੀ ।

ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਕੀ ਹੈ ?- ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਦੀ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ‘ਇਹ ਇਕ ਡਾਟਾ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਿ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਥਾਂਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਏ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਲੋਕਲ ਖੇਤਰ (LAN), ਚੌੜੇ ਖੇਤਰ (WAN) ਜਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਆਪੀ (WWW) ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ । ਸਰਲ ਰੂਪ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਲਈ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ ਦੋ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਦਾ ਆਦਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਪਰੰਤੂ ਇਸਦਾ ਗੁੰਝਲਦਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਕਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਦਾ ਪਸਾਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ-ਵਿਆਪੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।

ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪੀੜੀ- ਆਰੰਭ ਵਿਚ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁਪਤ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਦਿਅਕ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਖੋਜ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ । ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਇਲੈੱਕਵਾਨਿਕ ਮੇਲ (E-mail) ਲਈ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਜਾਂ ਵਣਜ-ਵਪਾਰ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੋਕਾਂ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ । ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪੀੜੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਹੈ |
