The above pay packages are inclusive of a full-time base salary, PDL, on call allowance, and 11.5% superannuation.

Please note: If successful, classification and level will be determined based on your qualifications, certifications, experience outlined in your CV and if applicable, assessment outcomes by specialist college and AHPRA registration status.

About the Pool and Appointment:

This is an active recruitment pool which will be assessed on a regular basis by the panel to fill both immediate vacant positions and future vacancies. Please note the below:

• Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made when similar vacancies occur.
• Appointments may be made from this pool until 07/04/2025.

About the Positions:

Provide comprehensive medical and community health services to the Carnarvon/Exmouth Health Service and remote communities. Provide clinical leadership, supervision, training, and education. Develop and maintain the skills necessary to provide safe, effective, appropriate, and quality clinical service. These roles are suitable for rural generalists who get a chance to do emergency department work on a rotating roster, ward type-based care and GP outreach clinics. There is also nonclinical time assigned to the roles.

Reporting to the Senior Medical Officer at each site will ensure you have the guidance and mentorship to thrive. You'll have access to resident specialists in person or via telehealth, and the WACHS Command Centre offer support with rapid care coordination and team leadership Emergency Medicine and Mental Health patients.  In this role, you regularly collaborate with the Royal Flying Doctor Service which will hone your skills in patient retrieval and high-level care.

At WACHS, we value teamwork. As part of our multidisciplinary team, you'll collaborate with Remote Area Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Allied Health staff, Aboriginal Health Workers, and Aboriginal Liaison Officers. Together, we practice medicine in this extraordinary environment, fostering continuous learning and professional development.

About the Region

The Midwest/Gascoyne region is located in the northwest of Western Australia and consist of the local government areas such as Carnarvon, Exmouth, Shark Bay, and Upper Gascoyne. The Gascoyne is a tranquil enclave with a population of approximately 9,277.

Carnarvon and Exmouth Health Campuses - bring key health services together under the same roof to provide the local community with care closer to home through modern, purpose-built, and well-equipped health services. The Carnarvon Health Campus includes refurbished emergency department with two resuscitation bays, four treatment bays, central nursing station, three consulting rooms, mental health assessment room and a new triage booth. The Exmouth Health Campus offers programs such as community mental health, social work, and child health services in one location for ease of access. The Exmouth Health Campus now includes new areas such as new outpatient facilities with a new hospital entry, reception, triage and waiting area; and new treatment areas for improved access to visiting specialists and practitioners.

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is a member of senior administration and is responsible for the overall management of nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing research at the assigned Mayo Clinic Arizona. This individual is accountable for developing, implementing and evaluating the organization's plan for providing nursing care to patients and ensures the organization's nursing plan is aligned with the institution's vision and strategic plan. The CNO works collaboratively with physician and administration leadership to manage resources including budgets and human capital and participates in assessing the environment, forecasting trends, transmitting Mayo core values, communication ideas and coaching and mentoring others. This position is accountable for measuring, assessing, and improving patient outcomes achieved through the development and implementation of nursing standards of clinical practice and clinical care. This individual is responsible to bring an institutional/system perspective to daily operations. The CNO provides leadership and mentorship in the development of Mayo administrators, professionals and leaders. The ANA Nursing Administration: Scope and Standards of Practice (2009) provide a basis for the practice of the CNO. This individual may have additional responsibilities as directed by the site leader.

• Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program and a master's degree in nursing, business, or health-related field. Minimum of five years' experience in nursing administration with line management responsibility.
• Previous experience in Nursing clinical practice role. Doctoral Degree – DNP or PhD in Nursing preferred.
• Demonstrates leadership attributes of people skills, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional intelligence.
• Worked in more than one clinical setting. Demonstrated ability to establish a vision, set strategy, execute and deliver results. Demonstrated external exposure (through clinical experience, Board, professional organization).
• Demonstrated performance in complex situations with multi-dimensional factors. Demonstrated consistent high level of performance, including stretch roles. Experience in leading Nursing Department initiatives.
• Current RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the applicable State Board of Nursing. This RN job may require a RN license in multiple states.

Law Enforcement Is Experimenting With AI-Assisted Policing: What You Need to Know

AI can help make officers' jobs more efficient, but can also cause big legal headaches, experts say

Police departments across the country are starting to use artificial intelligence to help complete their paperwork. 

AI can help officers save time writing reports and make their jobs more efficient, the Associated Press r eports.

But experts warn of possible dangers when tapping into new technology, which can introduce serious, sometimes life-changing mistakes in reports, promote bias and racism and leak private information, Politico reports.

According to its website, a new AI product offered by the technology company Axon called Draft One is designed to help police officers file reports in less time than required with conventional methods.

“Today, officers spend as much as two-thirds of their day on paperwork,” Axon says on the website. “Our AI Research team is working to cut the time spent on paperwork by improving the efficiency and accuracy of report-writing and information analysis in law enforcement."

For instance, Axon says its product gives officers the ability to automatically redact footage caught on body cams “so officers can share footage with the public faster while protecting the privacy of individuals captured in video."

Its AI software allows supervisors to review footage and reports so they “can better understand compliance and provide feedback in order to improve training and police-community relations.”

Draft One has had the “most positive reaction” of any product the company has debuted on the market, Axon’s founder and CEO Rick Smith told the Associated Press. But, he added, “there’s certainly concerns.”

District attorneys want to know that police officers didn’t only rely on an AI chatbot to write a report since they might have to testify in court about an alleged crime, Smith told the AP.

“They never want to get an officer on the stand who says, ‘Well, the AI wrote that, I didn’t,’” Smith told the outlet.

An AP investigation of another crime-fighting AI program, ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection tool that according to its website uses “sensors, algorithms and artificial intelligence” to classify 14 million sounds in its database as gunshots or something else, found "serious flaws" in the technology.

In one case in which ShotSpotter evidence was presented in court, an Illinois grandfather named Michael Williams was jailed for more than a year in 2021 when he was accused of shooting and killing a man based on audio evidence prosecutors say they obtained from the AI tool, the AP reported in 2022.

The AI technology allegedly picked up a loud noise when Williams’ car drove through an intersection and determined that Williams had fired a shot at the passenger in his car, the AP reported.

But Williams told authorities that a person in another vehicle pulled up to his car and shot at his passenger, the AP reported. A judge ended up dismissing the case when prosecutors said they didn’t have enough evidence to proceed.

“I kept trying to figure out, how can they get away with using the technology like that against me?” Williams told the AP.

In a variety of other applications used by lawyers, “AI creates ‘hallucinations’ or fake cases, citations, and legal arguments that seem correct but do not actually exist,” an expert at the law firm Freeman, Mathis & Gary wrote in an article on its website about risks and problems associated with Generative AI used in the legal profession.

This includes the accuracy of chatbots now being used by prosecutors and defense attorneys to sift through documents to detect relevant evidence, draft legal memoranda and devise complex litigation strategies. “A [2024] Stanford University study found that 75% of the answers generated by AI chatbots regarding a sample court ruling were incorrect,” the expert wrote.

“Further, AI cannot adequately address questions of law that implicate more than one practice area. For example, a legal issue implicating both immigration law and criminal law may yield an accurate answer for immigration law purposes but disregard any criminal law issues and implications."

AI used by law enforcement may be helpful but precautions and protections need to be in place, Jonathan Parham, a former police director in Rahway, New Jersey, told Politico.

"The AI should never replace the officer — it should enhance their operational competency,” Parham told Politico.
