The Continuity and Change-Over-Time (CCOT) essay is a type that is commonly used on the AP World History exam, but you may be asked to write one for other settings or courses. Basically, it asks you to think about how a particular subject has developed or altered over time, as well as to consider what about it has stayed the same. Writing one is a piece of cake if you practice, organize your thoughts before you start writing, and keep the basic requirements of this essay type in mind as you work.

Gathering the Information you Need

Step 1 Read the essay prompt.

  • For example, a prompt might ask you to “Evaluate the extent of continuity and change in the lives of European immigrants in the United States between 1876 and 1918."

Step 2 Write your thesis...

  • A thesis might look something like “While the United States maintained its position as a manufacturing superpower in the first five decades after WWII, over time its focus shifted from the production of traditional goods to the creation of innovative electronics.”
  • Your thesis must specifically mention the time period. [2] X Research source
  • Be as direct as possible about the continuity and change over time.

Step 3 Determine the facts you need to write the essay.

  • Jot down the basic facts you know about the topic, as well as any key details that stick out in your mind. Build your essay around these concrete details.
  • For example, if your topic asks you to consider the development of manufacturing in the United States after WWII, start by writing down what you know about industries during that time period. If you know particular details about developments in the auto industry, you might work with those above all.

Step 4 Figure out the turning point.

  • For instance, if you are writing about changes and continuities in manufacturing after WWII, you might argue that the Vietnam War and the fuel crisis of the 1970s decisively changed the shape of American industries.
  • Create a timeline of events to sort out your historical information in order and help identify the turning point.

Step 5 Identify local and global concepts.

  • Continuing with the manufacturing example, your might keep in mind that the fuel crisis of the 1970s led to a rise in imported, fuel-efficient cars, which impacted the auto industry in the United States.

Organizing and Writing Your Essay

Step 1 Put your thesis at the beginning of your essay.

  • Create an outline to serve as the framework for your essay.
  • For example, you might have a first paragraph that establishes your thesis and the conditions at the start of the time period. This could be followed by two paragraphs on changes that occurred over time. Finally, the essay could close with a paragraph on what stayed the same.

Step 3 Include evidence in each paragraph.

  • Be selective and organize your thoughts. Don’t just dump out everything you know about a subject.
  • Stay in the place and time relevant to the prompt. If a prompt asks you to think about the development of manufacturing in the United States, your evidence shouldn’t be based on examples from manufacturing in China.
  • On the other hand, don’t forget to explain the global significance of your topic. For instance, at some point in your essay, you might note that changes in manufacturing in the United States led to an increasing rise in imported home goods manufactured in China.

Step 4 Analyze the process of change and explain the cause.

  • If you get stuck, go back to the notes/ideas you had about the turning point, since this can show you exactly what changed, when, and why.

Preparing for the Exam

Step 1 Learn how the essay is scored.

  • 1 point for having an acceptable thesis
  • Up to 2 points for addressing all parts of the question
  • Up to 2 points for effectively using appropriate historical evidence
  • 1 point for explaining the changes in terms of world history and global contexts
  • 1 point for analyzing the process of continuity and change over time

Step 2 Earn points for excellence.

  • For example, including several relevant examples of changes and continuities will help you earn points in the Expanded Core.
  • You cannot earn points in the Expanded Core unless your essay already covers all aspects of the Basic Core.

Step 3 Practice to identify and avoid common errors.

  • Don’t use evidence from the wrong time period. Using the example of Captain Cook won’t help you if the essay asks you to examine continuities and changes in work exploration between 1400 and 1700.
  • Avoid vagueness of dates. Don’t write an essay that discusses “exploration before the eighteenth century.” Instead, tell your readers that your essay will discuss changes and continuities from 1492 (Columbus’ first voyage) to Hudson’s voyage of 1609-1611.
  • Don’t just dump as many facts as possible into your essay. Organize and analyze all information you include, making sure it is relevant.

  • If you are writing a CCOT essay for a class, always ask your teacher for advice. He or she may have specific expectations for the essay that may differ from these general guidelines. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • If you can't spell a word, choose another one. Although spelling mistakes and grammar errors would not deduct points, poor spelling can cast a shadow on the rest of your essay. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • Avoid cursive, especially if your handwriting is messy, as it may be harder for the AP essay readers. Don't have too many scribbles on the paper, for they may make it harder for the grader to read. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

writing a CCOT essay

How to Write a CCOT (Continuity and Change Over Time) Essay

Basically, CCOT stands for continuity and change-over-time, so in this type of task, you have to explore the dynamics of a particular subject and explain how it transformed over time.

In fact, its purpose is to evaluate students' ability to analyze historical changes that shaped social, political, technological, and economic developments or affected global processes.

Generally, the CCOT essay is a type of writing required at the Advanced Placement United States History (APUSH) examination. However, you might be asked to complete a CCOT essay in other settings and disciplines.

You can think about CCOT in different ways. For example, you may discuss in your essay whether change outweighs continuity or focus on the cause and effects of a primary change in a certain era.

How to Write a CCOT Essay

  • Formulate your thesis statement

Simply put, a thesis statement is a summary of your essay argument. As for a COOT essay, you must refer to both continuity and change, so you can follow the next formula when creating a thesis:

Over the time period between (x) and (y) in (location), (continuity)x3, remained constant in (topic), while there were significant changes in (topic) such as (change)x3.

Usually, it’s fine to make your thesis not longer than one sentence. But note that you should include at least two continuities and two changes to your statement as well as to mention a specific time period.

  • Write down ideas and identify concepts

Before you start writing an essay at APUSH (AP United States History) exam, jot down some basic facts about the topic, relying on your own knowledge only, since you won’t be provided with any information sources. First, determine what you can write about and then build your essay around it.

Even though you have to focus on a particular location and timeframe, you should also consider the situation in the rest of the world in that period. There is no need to go deep into detail about other locations, but it would be great to describe how some world events influenced your topic.

  • Create an outline and find evidence

You can organize your essay in many different ways since there is no right or wrong. However, it is more preferable to organize your paper so that it emphasizes changes first. If you discuss the changes before the continuities, you will be able to come across your arguments more clearly. In fact, this is the most common approach for outline creation.

It's essential to include a few specific examples in each paragraph. Make your examples rich in detail and relevant to the time and place mentioned in the essay prompt. Also, think about the significance of your topic in the global context.

  • Explain the cause of change

To get a high score in the AP World History exam, you should not just clearly state what changed about the topic but also analyze a historical situation. In other words, it's important to go beyond the basics and explain both the process and causes of changes. You can also describe if the change happened unevenly in different places or over time and mention intermediate points in a certain period.

Approaches to Address the Topic

Using this approach, you should first add a topic sentence, then provide a baseline, next explain the cause of change or context, give evidence, summarize the change, describe its status and significance at the endpoint.

According to this approach, you need to base body paragraphs around sub-periods. So after adding a topic sentence, you need to describe the characteristics of a historical situation, tell about the events and processes that changed or stayed the same, and then explain the cause of changes and their significance during a certain period.

Use writing formulas

To write body paragraphs, you can follow the next formulas.

Statement (sentence #1)

During the time period (… to …), (events in the world context) caused (topic/theme) to stay constant because (reasons).

As you see, you must think about what was going on in the world causing the continuity and cover the historical development of an event. Note that the global context must be relevant to the topic.

Analysis of continuity (sentences #2, #3, #4)

One continuity that took place in (topic/theme) was (…). The reason for it is (analysis). An example of this would be (specific evidence).

  • Changes

Statement  (sentence #1)

During the time period (…), (event in the world context) caused things to change in (topic/theme) because (reasons).

One change that occurred in (topic/theme) was (…). The reason for it is (analysis). An example of this would be (specific evidence).

In your conclusion, you should make some more global connections and explain why it's important to discuss the essay topic today. You can also predict how it will move forward in history and whether it will undergo further changes or stay the same.

Learn More About Scoring

Typically, you can earn 1 point for having a good thesis, up to 2 points for addressing the question, up to 2 points for using accurate evidence, 1 point for illustrating the changes in terms of global contexts and 1 point for analyzing the process of continuity and change over a period of time.

You can also get up to 2 additional points for excellence if you go above and beyond in analyzing your topic.

Wrapping Up

Hopefully, this article gave you a better understanding of how to write a CCOT essay for AP World History. Summing up, you should first define areas of change and continuity in your thesis, and then establish time period boundaries that you will address. Next, analyze the cause of changes and address continuity. It's also important to discuss the global context of the historical situation and connect it to world processes and change.

How to Write a CCOT Essay

Sam n. austin.

CCOT essays help identify trends.

CCOT stands for "change and continuity over time." The focus of a CCOT essay is to compare the state of affairs in a geographical region from two points in time. For example, a CCOT essay assignment might be to compare the percentage of U.S. high school graduates in 1965 who go on to attend college with the percentage in 1985. The precise format required for a CCOT essay will vary. There are techniques common to all formats that you can follow to write a CCOT essay, however.

State the dates and locations pertinent to your essay in the introductory paragraph. Describe the state of affairs about which you are writing. Give specific examples that show how the state of affairs was continuous between the two points in time and examples of how it changed. Propose an explanation for each instance of change and continuity.

Write a paragraph for each instance of change in the introduction. Briefly restate the change in the topic sentence, then provide evidence that the change occurred. Make arguments in support of your proposed explanation for the change in the body of the paragraph.

Write a paragraph for each instance of continuity in the introduction. Restate the example of continuity in the topic sentence of the paragraph, then offer evidence that confirms the continuity. As with the change paragraphs, offer arguments that support your proposed explanation for the continuity.

Summarize the set of changes and continuities and your explanations for them, in the concluding paragraph.

Question: Write the the question you have been assigned or the prompt you are going to answer with your essay in the box below.

1. The Topic

The “topic” of your essay is the general category your essay is about. Either write the topic your teacher has assigned or the topic you have chosen in the space provided. What do you have an opinion about?   What are some things that interest you? Topics are just general categories--school, fishing, parenting, hunting, cars, women’s rights, racial issues, the law, etc...

Type the topic of your essay in the box below.

2. The Position

What is one thing about your topic that you believe to be true, and that you wish to argue? You may already have a “position” in mind, or you may just have a general topic you know you wish to work with.

If you do not yet have a position, making a cluster or a map with  your topic in the center is a good way to help yourself find a position. Another good way is to begin a free write, “I’m supposed to write an essay about____________. . .”  and see where it takes you. However you get there, write a short statement describing your position in the space below.

Write your position in the space below.

3. The Qualification

Is what you say always true always?  Are there exceptions?  Are there good reasons why your position may have a down side? How can you make your position have a reality check? What general reasons why your position may have problems can you admit up front? To make absolute statements usually causes your essay’s thesis to seem foolishly simplistic.  Get real!. Here’s a trick: begin your qualification with a word like “although” or “It is true that. . .” Don’t worry if it’s not a complete sentence. Program’s Example Qualification: Although schools of over a thousand students have flourished in America. . . Write your qualification in the space below.

4. The Reason

In general why do you believe your position to be correct in spite of your qualification? What is the over all good to be gained by agreeing with your position? This is a general statement; your specific reasons will follow in the body of your essay. Write your reason in the space below.

5. Put them all together.

In one or two sentences, present your thesis, including a qualification, a reason, and a position. The classic, traditional way of combining is to first present your qualification.  This immediately demonstrates your interest in accuracy. Then present your general reason which demonstrates your thinking process, and finally the punch line--your position.

Click on the My Thesis button to see your thesis statement.

Edit your thesis statement in the box above so that the parts of the thesis flow smoothly, check for proper grammar and standard spelling. When you are satsified with your thesis statement click on the final draft button.

When you can’t seem to conjure up just the right words to focus your essay, that’s when you know you need a thesis statement generator.

In this tutorial, we’ll explain how to use our thesis statement generator, what a thesis statement is, and how to write one.  We’ll even give you a bunch of thesis statement examples to let you see what your next thesis could look like!  Let’s go

What is a Thesis Statement

A thesis statement is a sentence that expresses the main idea of your paper.  It usually comes at the end of your introductory paragraph.  It may be an argument that you will prove over the course of the essay, a subject you will define and describe, a point of view you will try to persuade the reader to adopt, or a simple acknowledgement of what the essay is about.  The thesis statement can even come in two parts:  one sentence explaining the topic or point of the essay, and another sentence explaining how the essay will proceed, i.e., how the point will be proven or the subject described.

In other words, the thesis statement is basically a signpost for the reader.  It lets the reader know up front what the paper will be about.  Most readers like that.  They don’t want to go into an essay wondering what point they’re supposed to be looking for.  They want to know ahead of time where their thoughts should be directed.  It is no different from getting out a map before getting on the road.  You familiarize yourself with the destination and the route—and that way you feel better about setting off.

Think of the thesis statement as the target—the goal—the final destination.  If you don’t have it, you won’t know what route to take with your writing.  You won’t know where to go with the words.  You won’t have a structure or purpose from paragraph to paragraph.  The thesis statement lays out where you are going and how you will get there.  Don’t try to write without it!

How to Write a Thesis Statement

To write a thesis statement, you first need to know what kind of essay you are writing.  Is it a compare and contrast essay?  Is it a descriptive essay?  Is it an argumentative essay?  This will determine the type of thesis statement to make.  Because each essay type has its own set of rules to follow, you will want to know whether you are presenting two sides to an argument, discussing similarities and differences, and so on.

Second, a thesis statement is like a telescope.  It lets you see all the way to the end.  This is your main point—the distillation in just a few words of everything you want to say on your subject.  It has to be narrow, concise, clear, and effective.  It should show what your essay will do and how it will do it (for instance, give evidence to support an argument).

Third, remember that a thesis statement is where you state your position.  It is in this sentence that you tell the reader what your belief is or where you stand on the matter.  If you’re going to argue a position on abortion, don’t just say that in your thesis statement—say what your position is and why you hold that position.  Give the reader a sense of the evidence you possess that is informing your stance.

How to Start a Thesis Statement

One of the best ways to start a thesis statement is to ask a question and then answer it.  The question is like the set-up to your thesis:  it gets the runners on base, and then the batter (your statement) can bring them home to score.  For example, you might start off your essay with a question like, “What are the benefits of school uniforms in high school?”  From there you could allude to the different arguments on the matter.  Finally, at the end of the introductory paragraph, you can state your position, why you hold it, and how you will prove it.  All that from asking a simple question!  See how easy it can be?

Of course, it helps to know a little bit about your subject ahead of time.  That is why it is usually important to research a subject before you start writing about it.  If it’s a topic you already know a lot about, you will probably already hold a position and know why.  But if it’s something you aren’t too well-versed in, you may need to read up on it.  Do that before you settle your mind on a position one way or another.  As you read, it will likely become clear to you what the different positions are.  You may find yourself leaning one way or the other.  Try to realize why, and then use that info for your thesis statement.

Another way to start is by beginning with a claim.  This can be a presentation of a fact or statistic that gets people thinking.  Your thesis statement can then be an explanation of how you will substantiate or refute that claim.  For instance, you might write, “Some people say 9/11 was an inside job.”  This is a claim.  Your thesis statement might then be:  “This paper will explain what people mean by that—notably, that they believe a conspiracy to attack the US was implemented from within the US government—and it will explain why the USA’s own track record with real conspiracies has led them to believe that.”

Or you could start with a famous quote or a quote that you take from research.  It is just another way to get your topic across quickly.  Once it is out there, you can state your position or purpose in writing on the matter.  That’s really all it takes to start a thesis statement.

How Long is a Thesis Statement?

A thesis statement should not be very long.  One or two sentences at most.  Remember, it is really just a summation of your point with a quick reference to the support you will use to make your case.  State your position—boom.  State why that’s your position—boom, done.

It’s not the place to linger and digress.  It should be direct, to the point, clear, and concise.  It should bite right through all the fluff.  It should have teeth.  Teeth should leave a mark.  There should be no question about what your point is, what your purpose is, or what your plan is, once you make your thesis statement.

Thesis Statement Examples

Climate Change

  • “Climate change is just the latest scare tactic that the institutionalize political class is using to justify further draconian changes to the way the Western world is governed.  This paper uses evidence from actual scholars, insider testimony, and historical facts to show why this is so.”
  • “This paper explains how to combat climate change by reducing the amount of pollution and run-off that results from factories the world over.”
  • “Electric vehicles will not stop climate change.  The fact is that producing green energy and green energy products actually has far more detrimental impacts on the environment than using fossil fuels does.”
  • “If people really want to stop climate change, the best way to do that is not gluing hands to art work or block traffic by sitting in the middle of the road.  The best way is to advocate for nuclear power—which is both clean and sustainable.”

Mental Health

  • “Mental health in professional sports is a problem that needs to be addressed, and thanks to courageous statements like those made by Kevin Love we now know more about it and what we need to do to help.”
  • “The stigma around mental health persists because of the way mental health is portrayed in popular media.”
  • “Mental health is influenced by a combination of factors, including social, environmental, behavioral, biological, psychological, and even spiritual factors.”
  • “The best way to help promote mental health is to talk more openly and positive about the importance and value of mental health and to be less condemning and judgmental of people working on improving their mental health.”

Social Media

  • “Social media is a great way to generate enthusiasm for a cause and rally people together at a grassroots way, and evidence abounds—from the trucker’s rally in Canada to protest government overreach to the Arab Spring in the Middle East.”
  • “Social media represents a serious danger for young people, as this paper will show:  it can cause depression, self-loathing, and isolation.”
  • “Free speech is an important part of social media, but companies like Meta and YouTube want to restrict one’s right to free speech, and this is a serious problem.”
  • “Social media has created a culture of look-at-me clones, all of whom will do just about anything for clicks.”

School Uniform

  • “The school uniform is a time-honored tradition for a reason:  it takes attention away from ‘fitting in’ and ‘standing out’ and puts attention back on what matters—taking pride in your school, your education, and making the most of your time.”
  • “Some say the school uniform restricts personal choice—but this is not really a bad thing because it also eliminates the tendency to turn school into a fashion show.”
  • “The research shows that school uniforms contribute to a culture of greater academic seriousness and success.”
  • “In spite of what some say, the evidence is inconclusive:  school uniforms make no clear impact one way or another.”

Huckleberry Finn

  • “Huckleberry Finn is a timeless American classic that should be read in schools because it has great lessons on honor and integrity.”
  • “Huckleberry Finn’s use of the ‘n-word’ should not be a reason to keep it out of schools; rather, it should be seen as an opportunity to talk about how language is used and the effects of language on society.”
  • “Huckleberry Finn is a great coming-of-age novel—in which the main character decides at the end that it is better to not come of age, after all.”
  • “Mark Twain sends Huck Finn off on another adventure at the end of the novel because Twain himself had little liking for ‘civilized society.’”

📍 Why Make a Thesis Statement?

You might have already heard about theses and thesis statements. Well, the main difference is: a thesis is the key point or argument of your assignment. And the thesis statement is this point expressed in one sentence.

Here’s one crucial thing you should always keep in mind when you write this sentence: it should meet the professor’s requirements.

There are two types of thesis statements:

  • Direct. It states the exact reasons for your paper. For example, "I do not support vegan lifestyle because animals do not have feelings, this lifestyle is too expensive, and a vegan diet is not healthy." Such a thesis sentence would tell the reader what each body paragraph or section is going to be about.
  • Indirect. Unlike the direct thesis statement, it does not state clear arguments. Here’s the sample: "I do not support vegan lifestyle for three reasons." The fact “I do not support vegan lifestyle” is the topic, and "three reasons" represent an indirect thesis statement. The assignment will contain these three reasons.

Most kinds of academic papers require a thesis statement, which can also be considered as your answer to the research question.

Now that you've learned the basics let's see what can help you to create an excellent thesis statement for anything: from history research to a critique paper!

📝 Essay Thesis Statement

You will probably write many essays as a high school or college student. Writing an essay is quite easy: it doesn't require any serious research on your part, and the resulting text is usually short. That's why you choose a narrow thesis statement that you can talk about in 4-5 paragraphs.

Your choice of a thesis statement depends on what type of essay you're writing. Here are some examples:

In an expository essay , you explain the topic logically, using your analytical skills. This type of essay relies only on facts, without any reference to the writer's personal opinion. The topic statement is the most critical part of an expository essay. It should be short and manageable so that you can describe it in just a few paragraphs. As you can see from the definition, it also should be based on facts and not on the writer's position. This category includes compare and contrast essays, definition essays , and others:

e.g., While online education is not always taken seriously, it is beneficial because of its flexibility and affordability.

On the contrary, argumentative essays are centered on the writer's personal opinion. This type of essay is also called persuasive because your aim is to persuade people that your idea is right. The thesis statement should reflect this:

e.g., Vegan lifestyle should not be promoted because it's expensive and not healthy.

Note: it's better not to use the word "I," because it may appear as too subjective. Remember: a strong thesis statement means an excellent essay!

✍️ Research Paper Thesis Statement

Unlike essays, research papers require more information, and they are lengthier than essays. That's why a research paper thesis statement should be slightly broader. This way, you make sure that you have a lot to discuss and can demonstrate your more profound knowledge on the topic.

Research paper thesis statements can be simple or more complex, depending on the purpose of your paper. Simple thesis statements can be formulated with the help of the outlines:

Something is true because of these reasons .

The US Constitution is not outdated because it's an integral part of the country's identity.

Despite these counterarguments , something is true.

e.g., Despite not being outdated, the US Constitution needs many amendments to keep up with the changing times.

You can make more complex thesis statements by combining several arguments:

e.g., The US Constitution is not outdated, because it's a part of the country's identity; still, some amendments need to be made.

Remember: it is essential to stay on topic! Avoid including unnecessary and random words into your statement. Our online thesis creator can help you in writing a statement directly connected with your theme.

Our thesis statement generator can help writing a thesis for your research. Create a short, catchy thesis statement, and you are one step closer to completing a perfect research paper!

📜 Dissertation Thesis Statement

Writing a master's thesis or a Ph.D. dissertation is not the same as writing a simple research paper. These types of academic papers are very lengthy. They require extensive analysis of information, as well as your ideas and original research.

Besides, you only have limited time for writing a dissertation, so you'll have to work on it systematically.

That's why it's better to come up with a thesis statement as early as possible . It will help you always stay on topic and not to waste your time on irrelevant information.

A dissertation can have an even broader thesis statement because of how lengthy your work should be. Make sure it's something you can study extensively and from different points of view:

e.g., The use of memory techniques at school can boost children's abilities and revolutionize modern teaching.

Don't forget to include a statement showing why your dissertation is interesting and relevant!

🙊 Thesis Statement For a Speech

Similarly, the thesis statement for a speech should be catchy and exciting . If you include it in the introduction, you will provide your audience with a sense of direction and make it easier to concentrate. The audience will know what to expect of your speech, and they will pay more attention.

Speech, unlike a research paper, includes only the most relevant information . If your speech is based on a paper, use your thesis statement to decide what to leave out. Remember that everything you say should be connected to your thesis statement! This way, you'll make your speech consistent, informative, and engaging.

Another useful tip is to rehearse your speech several times before deciding that it's finished. You may need to make some corrections or even rephrase the thesis statement. Take your time and make sure you do your best!

Now, we will concentrate on your thesis writing. We’ve prepared six tips that would help you to master your thesis statement regardless of the paper type you were assigned to:

  • Formulate your topic. Here’s the secret: the good topic makes half of the success when you write a paper. It defines your research area, the degree of your involvement, and, accordingly, how good will the result be at the end. So what is the topic of an essay? Basically, it’s a phrase that defines the subject of your assignment. Don’t make it too broad or too specific.
  • Determine the key idea. It will help you get an understanding of your essay subject. Think about things you are trying to state or prove. For example, you may write down one main idea; consider a specific point of view that you’re going to research; state some facts and reasons you will use in your assignment, or express your opinion about the issue.
  • Choose the central argument to support your thesis. Make a list of arguments you would use in your essay. This simple task has at least two benefits. First, you will get a clear understanding on what you’re going to write. It will wipe out the writer’s block. Second, gathering arguments for the topic will help you create an outline for your assignment.
  • Generate other arguments to support the thesis. Free thesis generators suggest you proceed with a few arguments that support your topic idea. Don’t forget to prepare some logical evidence!
  • Come up with a counterargument to the main idea. You might find this exercise a bit hard, but still, if you're dreaming of writing an excellent paper, think of another side of the argument. To complete this task, you should conduct preliminary research to find another standpoint and evidence behind it.
  • Provide your thesis statement as early as possible in your paper. If you're writing a short paper, put your thesis in the introductory paragraph. For more extended essays, it is acceptable to write it in the second paragraph. And avoid phrases like, "The point of my essay is…"
  • Make your thesis statement specific. Remember to keep it short, clear, and specific. Check if there are two broad statements. If so, think about settling on one single idea and then proceed with further development. Avoid making it too broad. Your paper won’t be successful if you write three pages on things that do not disclose the topic and are too generic.

Original thesis:

There are serious objections to abortions.

Revised thesis:

Because of the high risk of breast cancer or subsequent childbearing, there should be broadly implemented the informed consent practice that certifies that women are advised of such risks prior to having an abortion.

When writing your thesis, you use words that your audience will understand:

  • Avoid technical language unless you’re writing a technical report.
  • Forget about jargon.
  • Avoid vague words: “exciting,” “interesting,” “usual,” “difficult,” etc.
  • Avoid simply announcing the topic. Share your specific “angle” and show why your point on the issue matter.
  • Do not make judgments that oversimplify complex topics.
  • If you use judgment call in your thesis, don’t forget to specify and justify your reasoning.
  • Don't just report facts. Instead, share your personal thoughts and ideas on the issue.
  • Explain why your point matters. When you’re writing a thesis, imagine that your readers ask you a simple question: “So what?” Instead of writing something general, like "There are a lot of pros and cons of behaviorism", tell your readers why you think the behaviorism theory is better than cognitivist theory.
  • Avoid quotes in your thesis statement. Instead of citing someone, use your own words in the thesis. It will help you to grab the reader's attention and gain credibility. And the last advice: change your thesis as you write the essay. Revise it as your paper develops to get the perfect statement. Now it's time to apply this knowledge and create your own thesis! We believe this advice and tools will be useful in your essay writing!

Free Chicago Citation Generator

Generate citations in Chicago style automatically, with MyBib!

Chicago style guidebook cover

😕 What is a Chicago Citation Generator?

A Chicago Citation Generator is a software tool that automatically generates citations and bibliographies in the Chicago citation style.

Citations can be created by entering an identifying piece of information about a source, such as a website URL, book ISBN, or journal article DOI to the generator. The generator will then create a fully formatted citation in the Chicago style containing all the required information for the source.

Chicago style citations are used to give credit to the authors of supporting work that has been used to write an academic paper or article.

👩‍🎓 Who uses an Chicago Citation Generator?

The Chicago style is primarily used by college and university students studying business, history, social sciences, the fine arts, amongst others.

🙌 Why should I use a Chicago Citation Generator?

Citing sources is often an afterthought in paper writing because formatting citations correctly is time-consuming and confusing, and staying on top of source management manually can be hard. A citation generator makes this easier by:

  • Decreasing the time you would spend formatting citations correctly
  • Managing the recording and organization of every citation for you

In short, there is no reason not to use a citation generator in academic writing.

⚙️ How do I use MyBib's Chicago Citation Generator?

To get started, scroll up back up to the tool at the top of the page and follow these steps:

  • Select the type of source you want to cite
  • If it's a website, enter the URL in the search bar. If it's a book, enter the ISBN or title. If it's a journal article, enter the DOI or title. For all other sources, enter the details of the source into the form
  • Select the search result that most closely represents the source you referred to in your paper
  • Shazam! The generator will automatically format the citation in the Chicago style. Copy it into your paper, or save it to your bibliography to download later
  • Repeat for every other citation you need to create for your paper

2 Nasdaq Stocks to Buy Before They Soar as Much as 226% According to Select Wall Street Analysts

  • Despite the index hitting multiple all-time highs this year, many veteran Wall Street analysts believe the rally has legs.
  • Nvidia is an early beneficiary of the AI revolution and is poised to climb even higher.
  • Mobileye's advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) dominate the market and the company boasts industry-leading autonomous vehicle technology.
  • Motley Fool Issues Rare “All In” Buy Alert

NASDAQ: NVDA

Nvidia Stock Quote

The tech-centric index is taking a break from its relentless run, but some stocks in the Nasdaq have much further to climb, according to Wall Street.

The Nasdaq Composite is a broad-based, tech-centric index tracking the performance of the more than 3,000 stocks listed on its exchange. In early July, the index hit a new all-time high, marking its sixth straight record close and its 27th so far this year. After that epic run, the Nasdaq is taking a well-deserved breather, down some 11% from its peak at recent prices. This has some investors wondering if the rally has run out of steam. Wall Street is weighing in and believes there's still more upside ahead.

XM Investment analyst Marios Hadjikyriacos is among the bulls. "Stock markets are enjoying the best of all worlds, buoyed by a resilient U.S. economy and speculation that Fed rate cuts are just around the corner, helping to justify stretched valuations," he wrote. UBS analyst Mark Haefele concurs, saying, "All-time highs often generate investor concern that markets have peaked. Such worries are not supported by history," he wrote in a note to clients.

Here are two Nasdaq stocks that still have plenty of room to run and could soar as much as 226%, according to select Wall Street analysts.

Nvidia: Implied upside 83%

The first Nasdaq stock with a boatload of potential is Nvidia ( NVDA -7.82% ) . The semiconductor specialist has been one of the biggest early winners of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution by providing the chips that make the technology possible. Nvidia's graphics processing units (GPUs) were already the gold standard for video games, data centers, and earlier branches of AI. The advent of generative AI early last year sent the company's sales and its stock price into the stratosphere.

Nvidia's most recent results help illustrate why. For its fiscal 2025 first quarter (ended April 28), record revenue of $26 billion surged 262% year over year, while earnings per share (EPS) of $5.98 soared 629%. Its data center segment, which includes data center and other AI chips, saw revenue of $22.6 billion jump 427%.

Despite stock price gains of more than 600% since early last year (as of this writing), Wall Street remains firmly behind Nvidia. Rosenblatt analyst Hans Mosesmann has a Street-high price target of $200 and a buy rating on the shares. This represents potential upside of 83% compared to Thursday's closing price.

Mosesmann believes the chipmaker's product pipeline doesn't get enough credit. "We see Nvidia's Hopper, Blackwell, and Rubin series driving 'value' market share in one of Silicon Valley's most successful silicon/platform product cycles," Mosesmann wrote.

The analyst isn't the only one bullish on Nvidia. Of the 58 analysts who offered an opinion on the stock in June, 53 rated the stock a buy or strong buy, and none recommended selling.

Some investors may be put off by Nvidia's valuation, but that view is myopic. At recent prices, the stock is selling for just 34 times forward earnings, but Nvidia's growth rate illustrates why that premium is well deserved.

Mobileye: Implied upside of 226%

The second Nasdaq stock with a wealth of upside ahead is Mobileye Global ( MBLY ) . The vast majority of the company's revenue comes from the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) it pioneered more than 20 years ago. That move was prescient, as Mobileye controls an estimated 70% of the market, expecting to increase its share to 75% by 2026.

The biggest opportunity, however, is the potential for more broad adoption of autonomous vehicle systems, better known as self-driving cars . Several high-profile companies, including Alphabet 's Waymo, Tesla , and Baidu have all deployed self-driving technology, though most of these systems aren't yet ready for Primetime. However, last year, Mobileye was named as the industry leader in autonomous vehicle technology in two seperate reports issued by Guidehouse Insights and ABI Research.

That said, the lumpiness of Mobileye's business has sent many fair-weather investors to the sidelines -- and therein lies the opportunity. For 2024, management is forecasting revenue of $1.6 billion at the midpoint of its guidance, representing a decline of about 27% year over year. As a result, the stock has shed more than 60% of its value so far this year. When Mobileye reported its results earlier this week, it cited a slowdown in auto production in the second half -- primarily in China -- for the reduction in its guidance. CEO Amnon Shashua was quick to point out that its guidance represents a "worst-case scenario," which suggests that any improvement in the trajectory of its business could send the stock higher. That said, it's clear challenges remain.

One Wall Street analyst appears to be sticking to his guns. Despite a wave of price target reductions, Citi analyst Itay Michaeli hasn't updated his guidance post-earnings, maintaining a buy rating on Mobileye stock, with a price target of $53 (as of this writing). This represents potential upside of 226% compared to Thursday's closing price. The analyst calls the Q1 results "encouraging," with potential customer wins representing potential catalysts for the remainder of this year. He goes on to say the underlying thesis "remains very much intact."

Many on Wall Street seem to agree. Of the 27 analysts who covered the stock in June, 23 rated the stock a buy or strong buy, and none recommended selling.

Finally, at just 7 times forward sales, Mobileye is attractively priced, given the opportunity. Even a modest recovery in its business could send the stock soaring.
