Essay on My School for Students and Children

500+ words essay on my school.

Education is an essential part of our lives. We are nothing without knowledge, and education is what separates us from others. The main step to acquiring education is enrolling oneself in a school. School serves as the first learning place for most of the people. Similarly, it is the first spark in receiving an education. In this essay on my school, I will tell you why I love my school and what my school has taught me.

We have all been to school and we have loved each and every moment we have spent over there as those were the building blocks of our lives. A school is a place where students are taught the fundamentals of life, as well as how to grow and survive in life. It instils in us values and principles that serve as the foundation for a child’s development.

My school is my second home where I spend most of my time. Above all, it gives me a platform to do better in life and also builds my personality. I feel blessed to study in one of the most prestigious and esteemed schools in the city. In addition, my school has a lot of assets which makes me feel fortunate to be a part of it. Let us look at the essay on my school written below.

essay on my school

Why I Love My School?

From kindergarten through primary and secondary school, and subsequently, to faculty, school is a place where we always study, grow, and establish ourselves, socialize, be a friend, help others, and love and be loved. School is a buddy that will accompany us from the beginning of our youth till the conclusion of our lives. At school, we share all of our pleasures and sorrows, and we constantly rely on one another. This is made possible through the friendships we share. They assist us in effortlessly overcoming difficulties, sharing moments of enjoyment together, and looking forward to new paths.

My school strikes the perfect balance between modern education and vintage architecture. The vintage buildings of my school never fail to mesmerize me with their glorious beauty. However, their vintage architecture does not mean it is outdated, as it is well-equipped with all the contemporary gadgets. I see my school as a lighthouse of education bestowing knowledge as well as ethical conduct upon us.

Teachers have the power to make or break a school. The teaching staff is regarded as the foundation of any educational society. It is their efforts to help kids learn and understand things that instil good habits and values in their students. While some concepts are simple to grasp, others necessitate the use of a skilled teacher to drive the home the idea with each pupil.

In contrast to other schools, my school does not solely focus on academic performance. In other words, it emphasizes on the overall development of their students. Along with our academics, extra-curricular activities are also organized at our school. This is one of the main reasons why I love my school as it does not measure everyone on the same scale. Our hardworking staff gives time to each child to grow at their own pace which instils confidence in them. My school has all the facilities of a library , computer room, playground, basketball court and more, to ensure we have it all at our disposal.

For me, my school is more than simply an educational institution; it is also my second family, which I established during my childhood. A family of wonderful friends, outstanding teachers, and fond school memories. I adore my school because it is where I learn how to be a good citizen and how to reach my goals. School is the only place where we make friends without judging them. We feel comfortable spending time with those close friends no matter what the situation.

What has My School Taught Me?

If someone asked me what I have learned from my school, I won’t be able to answer it in one sentence. For the lessons are irreplaceable and I can never be thankful enough for them. I learned to share because of my school. The power of sharing and sympathy was taught to me by my school. I learned how to be considerate towards animals and it is also one of the main reasons why I adopted a pet.

first day at school essay for class 9

School is an excellent place to learn how to be an adult before entering the real world. Those abilities pay dividends whether you choose to be the bigger person in an argument or simply complete your domestic tasks. When you open your mind to new ideas, you gain a lot of influence in society. Picking up unexpected hobbies on your own will teach you more about what you like to do than simply completing things for a grade.

A school is a place where I developed my artistic skills which were further enhanced by my teachers. Subsequently, it led me to participate in inter-school completions through which I earned various awards. Most importantly, my school taught me how to face failures with grace and never give up on my ambitions, no matter what happens.

Schools also offer a variety of extracurricular activities such as Scouts and Guides, sports, N.C.C., skating, school band, acting, dancing, singing, and so on. Our principal also used to give us a short lecture every day for about 10 minutes about etiquette, character development, moral education, respecting others, and gaining excellent values. As a result, I can claim that what I am today is solely due to my school, which is the best institution in my opinion.

Teamwork is an important ability that schools teach. Schools are frequently the first places where youngsters have the opportunity to collaborate with children who are different from them. Collaboration is essential for the team and individual success. Students are taught that the success of a team depends on each individual component functioning together.

To sum it up, studying in one of the respected schools has helped me a lot personally. I will always be indebted to my school for shaping my personality and teaching me invaluable lessons. It has given me friends for life and teachers that I will always look up to. I aspire to carry on the values imbibed by my school to do well in life and make it proud.

A school is a primary institution where children go to learn new ideas and habits and receive education while making new friends on the journey. I was admitted to the school when I was 5 years old. It was a primary school, and I was really scared to attend it as it was the first time I had to spend a long time without my parents outside the home. On the first day, I woke up early as it was morning school, wore the new uniform, and reached school with my parents. They dropped me off at the Headmistress’s office, from where I was taken to my class. As I entered my class, I saw a few high benches and low benches where other students were sitting on. I sat on the third bench, where I made a friend who later became my best friend. I loved my first day at school and still cherish the memories.

The first day of school is very different for every kid. Some cry, some get excited, and some feel reluctant about the new environment. A long essay should capture these various emotions and feelings in a streamlined manner. Here is an example of writing an essay on the first day at school for class 3.

My Classroom

On my first day at school, I woke up early and dressed in my new uniform. I went to the school premises with my parents. The premises was huge with green lawns and a two-storey-ed building with nine rooms. I went to the Headmistress’s office and was later taken to my classroom by our class teacher. It was a small yet airy room with some benches and a blackboard. I sat on the third bench where another student was seated, who later became my best friend. Our class teacher was very friendly, and we got to introduce ourselves. I learnt a new alphabet and played with my new friends. We were given the school tour on the first day.

We were shown restrooms, a swing area, a dance room, etc. Though I enjoyed my first day, it wasn’t easy to stay so long without my parents. I missed them terribly. My mother packed my favourite snack for lunch, and I missed her badly then. I remember many kids crying and teachers trying to soothe them and pamper them with toffees. We were given some sheets and colours to enjoy colouring. I recall I was given a butterfly to colour. My friend got a crocodile, and I saw another kid colouring a bird. It was such a fantastic activity. Another activity happened that day; we had to tell the teacher the one thing we instantly liked about the school. I said swings, and my friend said colours. It was a memorable day that I cherish even today.

Introduction To Teachers And Friends

Our class teacher introduced us to other teachers, and we were asked to introduce ourselves. Teachers made us sit alphabetically. Luckily my friend’s name also started with S, like me, so we sat together. We played fun Pictionary games. We were asked to perform our hobbies and were given toffees. It was amazing to meet my best friend, who shared the same hobby, dancing with me. The teacher also read a beautiful story to us. I really loved the overall experience.

My father parked the car near the main gate and we all entered the school. My sister went to her classroom. My father took me to the Principal’s office. Many children along with their parents were standing in front of the office.

The Principal serially called out the children and then signed their admission form. I was admitted to the first standard. My classroom was on the ground floor, When į entered the classroom, I saw 20 to 25 students present there. I also saw Sudha’s sister in the classroom. Sudha is my sister’s friend. She welcomed me. My class teacher asked me to take a seat in the first row. After two hours we had our recess. We all closed our schoolbags and came out.

My sister was waiting for me outside the classroom. Both of us finished our tiffins. After that, we played for some time and went back to our respective classrooms. Our class teacher told us about the rules and regulations that we need to follow in the school. Then she gave us the list of books, asked us to learn the tables. She also asked me to recite a poem. She congratulated me for reciting it correctly.

The school got over at 12.30 p.m. My sister came to pick me up. She carried me to the main gate where our mother was waiting for us. All three of us took a rickshaw and came back home. I feel very happy and pleased when I remember my first day of school.

Set 2: Essay On My First Day in School 500 Words

School is regarded as a temple of learning. It is also considered as a training institution for future good citizens. Unfortunately, not all children are lucky to go to school. A school is a training ground for the child. The child builds new relations, meets boys and girls of different natures, and forms new thoughts and habits. The right kind of school is of great importance because a school prepares the child for taking up different challenges in life.

My parents had enrolled me in a local school at the age of five. The memory of my first day in school is still fresh in my mind. It was a big school. It had six floors. There were thirty classes in my school. In all, there were thirty-three teachers and four sirs. There was a separate room for the Principal. He was a very strict person. The school had a compound where we played during thirty minutes recess. There was a big ground behind the school. However, we were not allowed to go there.

One day my parents took me to the Principal’s room and got me admitted to the school. I was very afraid of seeing the big white beard of the Principal. He asked me my name, my age, and some other small questions. I answered them nervously. Later after having some talks with my parents, he gave me a small packet of candies and asked me to distribute them among my classmates after school reopened next month.

In the next twenty days, the school reopened. As it was my very first day, I went crying to the school. I felt very bad leaving my parents. I entered the class and sat on the first bench. My class teacher entered the class. She seemed very kind. She treated me very well. In the beginning, I felt a bit nervous in the new atmosphere. Children looked at me surprisingly and smiled. Maybe because I was little fat and tall than them. That day I got my first lesson in English alphabets and Maths digits.

The bell for recess rang. Children rushed out of the classroom. Some of them gathered around me as if they were watching some strange creature. They started laughing at me and made fun of me. I felt very bad. However, a few children felt sad for the trouble caused to me by other children in the class. Some came forward to support me. This was something very new for me.

The final bell rangat two o’clock in the afternoon. All the children were overjoyed. Even I was happy that the first day got ended. I picked up my bag and water bottle and hurried back to my home.

Set 4: Essay On My First Day in School

A lot of the things I did just yesterday I will have difficulty in remembering but many years ago my first day in school, I remember in every detail. It was a Wednesday morning in March at Mount Abu. It was a cold morning and I was shivering because I did not want anything to spoil the new school uniform I was wearing.

The previous day my Mother, Father and I had visited the school to see my class and meet my class teacher and so I knew where I had to go and who would be my teacher.

That day my mother woke me up very early. I was just two and a half years old and I cried when I was awoken so early. She reminded I had to go to school that day and I quietened down and went through the process of getting ready fast. My mother gave me a bath. That day she prepared my most favourite breakfast which I had happily. For my recess break too she prepared my favourite upma and packed it neatly into my new tiffin box and put it into my bag. I was ready and waiting outside before my Mum and Dad joined me. The taxi brought us to school well in time. My parents took me to my class where the teacher Mrs. Varghese stood with open arms to receive me. She was a very kind and gentle lady. I was the first student to reach her class. After speaking briefly to her my parents kissed me and assuring that they would return to pick me up, they went away.

My teacher showed me where to sit and made me comfortable. Just then a class mate of mine came, a girl by the name of Richa and she was crying loudly. Soon after her many came in with their parents and all were crying. I felt that there must be something that I am supposed to fear and so I too started crying. My teacher sang for us, played music for us, acted the clown for us but we just cried. In the end she started crying and then one by one we stopped crying. I went over to my teacher and told her not to cry. Then my teacher stopped crying and we did whatever she told us to do. We loved her because she was just like us.

Set 5: Essay On My First Day in School

My mother accompanied me to school on the first day. Other parents accompanied their children as well. We all waited in front of the school office.

Soon a teacher came and led us to some classrooms. There we were put into four separate classes. This was when some children began to cry as the parents were not allowed into the classrooms. I did not cry because I had been to kindergarten before. Actually my mother went home soon after for she knew I would be all right.

It was an enjoyable time for me as I got to know my new classmates. The teacher was very busy writing down our particulars so we had plenty of time to ourselves.

Meantime some children continued to sob while their parents looked in anxiously through the windows.

Soon recess came. Some of us headed for the tuckshop while the rest headed for their parents. I bought a drink with the money my mother gave me. Getting to know my new friends had made me thirsty.

After recess we went back to our classroom and my new friends and I managed to coax two boys to stop crying. In fact, soon we were laughing and playing together. Once in a while the teacher had to tell us to keep quiet as we were making too much noise.

Still some parents looked in anxiously through the windows.

Finally the bell rang for us to go home. Some of us relieved to be reunited with our parents. I too were very was glad to see my mother waiting for me at the school gate. I had made many friends. It had been a wonderful first day at school.

Set 6: Essay On My First Day in School

This is my third school. Yet, on the day I joined it, I was very nervous. We had shifted to Singapore recently and so I had to change to this school.

This school is very different from my previous one. It has a very grand and imposing building. There are big playgrounds on two sides and a beautiful garden in front. I was very happy to come to this school and had visions of all the games that I would be able to play. And yet I was full of apprehensions.

I saw some students walking around. They seemed to be quite indifferent to me. A few even stared at me insolently. It frightened me. How would I get along with these students? Just at that time, the class teacher of my class came out of the Principal’s room. She took me to my class, introduced me to the students, asked a student to give a seat to me and told me that I should sit there every day. That student did not even say ‘hello’ to me. All my apprehensions came to the fore. I felt very alone and stupid.

Then the bell rang. The teacher left the class. Some five-six students crowded round me, asking my name, telling me theirs, making fun of each other and pulling each other’s leg. Soon I was one of them. What I considered their aloofness was just discipline. How could they talk in front of the teacher! Now, I love my school.

Set 7: Essay On My First Day in School

I got admission in the nursery class after my parents and I were interviewed. Yesterday was my first day at school. I went to school with my father and elder sister, When I entered the school building I found many boys and girls with their parents and guardians. Some of them had come for getting admission and others were to join the school for the first day.

The building of the school was very beautiful. There were forty rooms and the Principal’s office was on the ground floor. It was a two-storeyed building. In the library, a large number of boys and girls were reading magazines and newspapers. Some boys and girls were playing different games in the playground.

Many parents and children were going in and then coming out of the Principal’s office after the interview. I went to my classroom. My class teacher Mrs. George was teaching the class. On entering the class room, I greeted my teacher and I was asked to sit. She taught us English, Hindi and some numbers with the help of pictures and toys. I was very happy to learn through playway method. After the class my teacher introduced me to all the students of my class.

In the recess, many classmates came to me and asked my name and address. We ate our lunch together. After recess we had periods of games and music. Then the last bell went and the school was over. My father had already come and was waiting for me. I went home along with my father. I liked the school and enjoyed my first day at school.

Set 8: Essay On My First Day in School

A lot of the things I did just yesterday I will have difficulty in remembering but many years ago my first day in school, I remember in every detail. It was a Wednesday morning in June and it was raining. But I was not ready to wear a raincoat. because I did not want anything to spoil the new school uniform I was wearing.

That day my mother woke me up very early. I was just two and a half years old and I cried when I was awoken so early. She reminded I had to go to school that day and I quietened down and went through the process of getting ready fast. My mother gave me a bath. That day she prepared my most favourite breakfast which I had happily. For my recess break too she prepared my favourite Cheese burger and packed it neatly into my new tiffin box and put it into my bag.

Set 9: Essay On My First Day in School

Loknath Memorial School is a very big school with large grounds and three huge buildings. I entered the school gate, clutching both my parents’ hands as I was very nervous. My mother put a gentle arm around my shoulders and I felt a little comforted.

A peon from the school showed my parents the way to the principal’s office. Now I was almost in tears. As we entered the room, the principal rose from his chair and walked up to me. He held out his hand and my father gave me a little push towards him. We shook hands and he welcomed me to his school. He was cheerful and tried to make me smile, putting some sweets into my pocket.

Then we were sent to the Primary Department as I was to start my first day in class III. The teacher greeted my parents, took me by the hand and led me to a desk in the first row. I looked at my parents and waved as they turned to leave.

The teacher introduced me to the class and all the children said a loud “hello” to me. At once I felt I belonged to the class. During the break, some boys gathered around me and asked me many questions. We talked for a while, then it was time for lessons again. Naveen, who sat beside me, very kindly shared his text books with me as my parents hadn’t bought my books, on the first day. During the last period we had a singing class. I joined in happily as I love music.

The boys rushed out when the bell rang at 1.00 p.m. and I ran out too, eager to reach home.

Set 10: Essay On My First Day in School

The family was extremely excited that day. My parents had taken me to the temple the previous day and my bag was packed with great care. I was to go to School for the first time in my life. I was three years old and I still remember the day I first went to school. My father came to drop me to my classroom and helped me to get familiar with my teacher and class. I hated the thought of being away from home for so many hours. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I got off the car and held my father’s hand.

My father could sense my fear and tried to cheer me up by drawing my attention to the playground where the swings were inviting me to come and play. I felt a little better as I saw many other boys and girls entering the class where I had to go. Father left me in the room and drove to the house. I felt my heart sink as I saw but I soon began to feel better.

Mrs. Smith. She was a kind lady who made all of us feel comfortable. Soon I realized that school was fun as Mrs. Smith taught us some songs and told us a few stories. She took the place of our mother in our school.

My partner began to share his lunch with me everyday. We became the best of friends and soon I fell in love with my school. However even today, when I think of my first day at school I remember the fear that I had and how my teacher and my friends helped me to overcome this feeling.

My memories of the first day at school haunt me till today. Never again have I experienced such a mixture of strange feelings. The anxiety of being in school along with the excitement of making new friends- all these made my first day at school most memorable and I long for the innocence and fun that was common among me and my friends.

Set 11: Essay On My First Day in School

Set 12: essay on my first day in school.

My first day at school is a memorable one. I saw boys go to school and I also felt a keen desire to be among them. One day, when I was hardly seven, my father took me to the school in a neighbouring village at a distance of a kilometre and half from my own. It was a small primary school. There were two teachers, the head teacher and his assistant.

We went straight to the head teacher, as he was already known to my father. The head teacher scanned me from head to foot and remarked that I seemed to be intelligent and promising. My father offered him the sweets that we had brought with us. The sweets were distributed among the students of the school and I was admitted to the first infant class. My father left and I was sent to the assistant teacher.

The assistant teacher was a bug-bear for me. He carried in his hand a big cane. He now beats one boy most mercilessly and then another. I trembled with fear in my shoes. My blood curdled cold in my veins. I cursed my stars. At last, the teacher turned his attention towards me. He taught me the first few letters of the Urdu alphabet and asked me to memorise them. On a gloomy afternoon, with an aching heart, I was cramming the first few letters of the Urdu alphabet. What on earth did they mean? What was their sense? It all seemed absolute rigmarole to me. However, there was one thing I could always do; I could learn by heart. In due course, the teacher returned.

“Have you learned it?” he asked. “I think I can say it, Sir,” I replied. I gabbled it off. He seemed to be satisfied with it. My fears were a bit allayed. I hated the school. What a life of anxiety at the school! I wept in my heart at the loss of my freedom. I yearned for my mother’s kisses, love and tenderness. I badly missed the cakes and biscuits. I badly missed my friends. I was deprived of my games and pranks. I lost all smiles and joy. I counted the minutes and hours to the end of the daily round of school.

200 During the recess period, all my class fellows crowded around me. One pulled my ear, another my shirt and the third pulled my hair. A boy knocked me to the gro ground. I received bruises on my knees and elbows. I could not help crying.

At 4 o’clock, the last bell rang. I made for home along with my village fellows. I told everything to my mother. I wept but she consoled me and advised me to bear it all. My fears were not dispelled. But there was no way out of it. I must go to school and face the teacher’s rod.

Set 13: Essay On My First Day in School

School is regarded as a temple of learning. It is also considered as a training institution for future good citizens. Unfortunately, not all children are lucky to go to school. A school is a training ground for the child. The child builds new relations, meets boys and girls of different natures and forms new thoughts and habits. A right kind of school is of great importance because a school prepares the child for taking up different challenges in life.

My parents had enrolled me in a local school at the age of five. The memory of my first day in school is still fresh in my mind. It was a big school. It had six floors. There were thirty classes in my school. In all, there were thirty-three teachers and four sirs. There was a separate room for the principal. He was very strict person. The school had a compound where we played during thirty minutes recess. There was a big ground behind the school. However, we were not allowed to go there. One day my parents took me to the Principal’s room and got me admitted in the school. I was very afraid seeing big white beard of the Principal. He asked me my name, my age and some other small questions. I answered them nervously. Later after having some talks with my parents, he gave me a small packet of candies and asked me to distribute them among my classmates after school reopened next month.

In next twenty days, school reopened. As it was my very first day, I went crying to the school. I felt very bad leaving my parents. I entered the class and sat on the first bench. My class teacher entered in the class. She seemed very kind. She treated me very well. In the beginning, I felt a bit nervous in the new atmosphere. Children looked at me surprisingly and smiled. May be because I was little fat and tall than them.

Set 14: Essay On My School

It is very important that every child, rich or poor, goes to school because it is in a school that we learn many important things. We are taught how to behave with others and how to live a better life.

I study at St Martin’s High School, Civil Lines, Lucknow. The school has four buildings. My class de four b is in the building for primary children. The beautiful garden, the grassy lawn and the Ashoka trees along the pathways make the school a beautiful sight.

Besides the beautiful buildings, my school also has a basketball court, a huge field for outdoor games, a swimming pool and a canteen where fresh food is cooked everyday.

Our school takes part in inter-school hockey, football and cricket tournaments, as also in debates and elocution contests. Our school has won many trophies, especially for debates and football.

Every year, our senior students from Class X and XII secure very good results and our school is on the merit list every year.

The principal of our school is a great scholar and our teachers are highly qualified and well trained, so we students get a good foundation in our studies. I am certainly very proud to belong to a school like this.

I was five years old at that time, and felt very excited on the way to school. My father introduced me to my class teacher who was a very kind lady called Miss. Kohli. The moment my father turned to leave me I began to cry. Miss. Kohli very kindly gave me two toffees and took me to the classroom.

We only played games the first day. I mad one or two friends. It was a small school with 10 classrooms. It had a wide green lawn. There was a separate playground for children with swings and see-saws. There were about 15 teachers in all, including the music and arts teachers.

The headmaster was a jolly old fellow who took care to make us feel welcome in the school. He gave us all sweets to eat and even played with us for a while.

Though we enjoyed the school, we were all very happy when the last bell rang and we could go home. My mother had prepared may favorite lunch, and I told my parents all about my first day at school.

Monzo has been named the best bank in the UK for customer satisfaction, according to a major survey.

More than 17,000 personal current account customers rated their bank on the quality of its services and how likely they would be to recommend to friends or family.

Digital banks made up the top three, with Monzo coming out on top, followed by Starling Bank and then Chase.

Some 80% of Monzo customers said they would recommend the bank.

The digital banking app said topping the tables "time and time again" was not something it would "ever take for granted".

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) was bottom of the ranking for another year.

The banks with the best services in branches were Nationwide, Lloyds Bank and Metro Bank.

Gail's bakery chain has come under fire for repurposing unsold pastries into croissants and selling them for almost £4 the next day.

The retailer lists the "twice baked" chocolate almond croissants as part of its "Waste Not" range, which means it is made using leftover croissants that are then "topped with almond frangipane and flaked almonds".

The scheme has been hit with criticism online, with many pointing out the £3.90 price tag is 95p more than the original croissant.

One X user said: "The audacity of bragging about it being part of their 'Waste Not' range like we should be grateful to them and proud of ourselves for contributing to reducing food waste when they could just sell it for less money – not one pound more than yesterday.

"Unsure whether to be impressed or horrified that someone has come up with a concept to capitalise on yellow sticker goods to make more profit.”

It comes as locals in a trendy London neighbourhood signed a petition against a Gail's bakery setting up shop in their area.

After (unconfirmed) rumours began circulating that the chain was looking to open a site in Walthamstow village, more than 600 have signed a petition opposing the plans.

The petition says the village "faces a threat to its uniqueness" should Gail's move into the area (see yesterday's 11.54am post for more).

Gail's has been contacted for comment.

British retailers saw a rise in sales last month after a boost from Euro 2024 and summer discounting, according to official figures.

High street retailers said sales of football shirts, electronics such as TVs, and alcoholic drinks were all stronger amid the Three Lions' journey to the final.

Total retail sales volumes rose by 0.5% in July, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said. It was, however, slightly below predictions, with economists forecasting a 0.7% increase.

It followed a 0.9% slump in volumes in June as retail firms blamed uncertainty ahead of the general election and poor weather.

ONS director of economic statistics, Liz McKeown, said: "Retail sales grew in July led by increases in department stores and sports equipment shops, with both the Euros and discounting across many stores boosting sales.

"These increases were offset by a poor month for clothing and furniture shops, and falling fuel sales, despite prices at the pump falling."

The data showed that non-food stores saw a 1.4% rise, driven by a strong performance from department stores, where sales grew by 4% for the month as summer sales helped to stoke demand.

However, clothing and footwear shops saw a 0.6% dip, whilst homeware retailers also saw volumes fall 0.6%. Food stores, meanwhile, saw sales remain flat for the month.

There are fears that the £2-cap on single bus fares could be scrapped after the government declined to say whether the policy would continue past December.

Bus companies said it was vital the cost of using their services is kept low for young people to "enhance their access to education and jobs".

Alison Edwards, director of policy and external relations at industry body the Confederation of Passenger Transport, said: "Bus operators are working closely with the government so that together we can find a way to avoid a cliff edge return to commercial fares.

"Analysis has shown that supporting fares, which can be done in a range of different ways, is great value for money and can support many other government objectives.

"For example, keeping fares low for young people would enhance their access to education and jobs, while also encouraging them to develop sustainable travel habits to last a lifetime."

Transport Secretary Louise Haigh said in a recent interview with the PA news agency that her officials were "looking at various options" in relation to the cap, including whether they could "target it better".

It's been a busy week on the economic front.

There was no major shift in the overall outlook - since Monday we've had it confirmed that the UK economy has lower inflation and more growth than the last two years, while wages have grown faster than the overall pace of price rises.

On the back of all that news the pound is at the highest rate since early this month against the dollar, worth $1.2882, and the highest since July when it comes to buying euro with one pound equal to €1.1733.

Signs of a recovery from the global market sell-off of Monday last week can be seen in the share prices of companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Share prices have grown among the most valuable companies on the stock exchange, those that comprise the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) 100 list of most valuable companies.

Today though, this benchmark UK index fell 0.19% but finishes the week higher than the start.

Also finishing the week higher than the start are the more UK-based companies of the FTSE 250 (the 101st to the 250th most valuable firms on the London Stock Exchange).

On Friday morning that index was up 0.08%.

With tensions in the Middle East and Eastern Europe high as Iran mulled a retaliatory strike on Israel and Ukraine made incursions into Russian territory, there had been concern about energy price spikes.

But the benchmark oil price has remained steady at $80.13 dollars for a barrel of Brent crude oil.

Gas prices have remained below the Monday high of 100 pence a therm (the measurement for heat) and now are 94.50 pence a therm.

A Cabinet Office minister has said it is "unfair" to suggest other public sector workers will be queuing up for a pay rise after the government's offer of a 15% increase for train drivers and junior doctors.

"I think that's an unfair characterisation as well," paymaster general Nick Thomas-Symonds told Times Radio.

"I think what is absolutely crucial here is we are a Government again that is sticking to the promises we made in opposition.

"We promised we would sit down and find solutions, and people expressed scepticism about that, but actually that is precisely what we have done in Government."

Last month, the government and the British Medical Association struck an improved pay deal for junior doctors in England worth 22% on average over two years.

Meanwhile, train drivers will vote on a new pay deal following talks between representatives of drivers' union ASLEF and the Department for Transport.

The new offer is for a 5% backdated pay rise for 2022/23, a 4.75% rise for 23/24, and 4.5% increase for 24/25.

The Dartford Crossing is the highest-earning toll road in the UK, new data shows.

The Kent to Essex route raked in £215.9m in the last year - 2,159 times more than the Whitney toll bridge in Hereford.

The crossing, which was supposed to stop charging customers in 2003, costs between £2 and £6 to use (depending on the vehicle you're driving) between 10am and 6pm every day.

Car finance company Moneybarn found it earned just over £209m in 2022.

It topped the chart of 13 toll roads in the country, making over £100m more than the second highest-earning road in 2023 - the M6 Toll in the West Midlands.

In third place was the Mersey Gateway Bridge between Halton and Cheshire, which made £48.9m.

You can see how the other toll roads fared below...

Fines for parents who take their children out of school will increase this upcoming term as the government continues with plans to improve attendance.

From next week, fines for unauthorised absences will go up by as much as £40.

Under the new system, the cost of a penalty charge notice will rise from £60 to £80 if paid within 21 days, and from £120 to £160 if paid within 28 days .

This marks the first increases since the system was introduced in 2013.

So, when do parents get fined?

Children are only allowed to miss school if they are unwell, or they have been given permission from the school in advance.

Parents can make an absence request to take their children out of school, but there needs to be "exceptional circumstances" and the headteacher needs to authorise it.

Currently, it's the responsibility of the local authority to decide when to issue fines, meaning the process varies from council to council.

But, under the new rules which were created by the Conservative government, all schools will be required to consider a fine when a child has missed at least five days of school for unauthorised reasons.

What happens if you keep getting fined?

If a parent receives a second fine for the same child within any three-year period, this will be charged at the higher rate of £160.

A parent can only receive two fines within any three-year period, and once this has been met, other actions can be considered.

This includes a parenting order or prosecution.

Parents who are prosecuted and attend court because their child hasn't been attending school, can be fined up to £2,500.

Where is the money spent?

Government guidance states any money collected from fines should be used by the local authority to cover the costs of administering the system.

Any surplus after that should be spent on "attendance support".

Any cash remaining at the end of the year must be paid to the education secretary.

A Department for Education spokesperson said: "High and rising school standards are at the heart of our mission to break down barriers to opportunity and give every child the best start in life. Strong foundations of learning are grounded in attendance in the classroom.

"Tackling the root causes of absence is a major priority for the government.

"Our support-first approach outlined in our guidance is designed to help parents to meet their responsibility to ensure their child attends school.

"However, in some cases, including term-time holidays, it may be necessary to issue penalty notices."

Every Friday we take an overview of the mortgage market, speaking to those in the industry before getting a round-up of the best rates courtesy of the independent experts at  Moneyfactscompare.co.uk .

Over recent months and years, the release of monthly inflation data has had a big impact on forecasts for interest rate cuts - but not this week.

Following a slight uptick in inflation to 2.2% in July, announced on Wednesday, markets were pretty unmoved at pricing in a 63% chance of a base rate cut next Monday.

Investors still think there will be two further cuts this year, bringing the base rate down to 4.5% by Christmas.

On the high street, rate cuts we've mentioned for a month or two now continued this week, with the lowest five-year fixed available now 4.83% - with NatWest, Barclays and Nationwide all settling there for now.

Moneyfacts finance expert Rachel Springall said: "Nationwide Building Society was one of many mutuals to cut fixed rates this week - it now offers a five-year fixed as low as 3.83%. NatWest also cut rates by up to 0.20% and Virgin Money made similar reductions."

Looking specifically at home movers, Springall has some data that shows the difference between now and this point five years ago.

"Home movers who want to lock into a longer-term fixed mortgage will find the average overall five-year fixed rate is much higher than it was back in August 2019, which was 2.84%. Week on week, the overall average two-year and five-year fixed rate mortgage fell to 5.66% and 5.29% respectively."

Away from rate changes from some of the big lenders, one of the most telling insights into the mortgage market this week came with statistics about the average shelf-life of mortgage products.

Springall said: "The volatility within the mortgage market was made clear by the notable drop in the average shelf-life of a mortgage to just 17 days, down from 30 in June.

"There are expectations for rates to fall further in the weeks to come, particularly as the market reflects on the 0.25% base rate cut, the first cut in over four years."

Here's a look at the look at the best rates currently on offer for house purchases...

Moneyfacts also looks at what it calls "best buys" - which considers not just the rate, but other costs and incentives. These are their top picks this week...

British pubs are in trouble, with more of them closing every year.

Once the beloved watering holes for many communities, they have fallen victim to higher costs, changing habits and "the real estate incentive".

Some 239 pubs closed in England and Wales during the first three months of the year, according to government figures – 56% more than in the same period in 2023.

Our Money reporter Brad Young has been exploring whether this is the end of the British pub as we know it.

Earlier this week, he spoke to communities and experts about the reasons behind recent closures - you can read his piece here .

In the video below, Brad explains three reasons why pubs are struggling.

first day at school essay for class 9

Smiles, ‘butterflies’ and a little boy cries ‘I want my mom.’ It’s LAUSD’s first day of school

“I get butterflies in my stomach,” said Alberto Angulo of the first day of school.

He’s a fourth-grade teacher at Main Street Elementary in South Los Angeles. And he’s far from alone in his nervous excitement.

For students and parents, the first day of school Monday at Los Angeles Unified was a crush of new schedules, new teachers and new things to learn, along with a modicum of excitement — and those familiar butterflies. And then around lunchtime — a magnitude 4.4 quake. By early afternoon the district said no damage was reported but the quake apparently triggered some real-life campus earthquake drills, adding to the jitters of the day.

For Angulo, his hint of first-day nervousness combined with the thrill of meeting new students, setting his classroom rules and recruiting students to his folklorico group.

“We can teach that traditional Mexican folk dance, which is something that I’m very passionate about, since that’s part of my culture,” said Angulo, who is starting his ninth year at the school and will have 22 students with him in Room 22.

Demeras Tillman dropped off her three elementary school children at Main Street, a school she has come to rely on.

“They actually care for the kids,” Tillman said. “We’ve had nothing but great support from people in the office to the teachers, everybody’s understanding and helpful.”

Veronica Cortez calmly and cheerfully welcomed 4-year-olds confronting their first day of school in transitional kindergarten. A few were eagerly digging into a breakfast of milk, apple and cinnamon bun, but a boy named Axel, nattily dressed in new khakis and a green shirt, was wailing: “I want my mom” and finally plopped the side of his head on the table in front of his chair.

At the Girls Academic Leadership Academy in the University Park neighborhood near USC, students walked onto their new campus, a refurbished LAUSD administration building. The students at the grade six-12 school had formerly used a portion of the Los Angeles High campus.

Rose Agamegwa, a college and career counselor, described the change as “liberating” for the girls and staff to have their own campus.

Staff at Bandini Street Elementary in San Pedro cheered, shook clappers and waved pom-poms to welcome the new 4- and 5-year-olds as parents crowded in front of the school’s gate, waving, taking photos and calling out goodbyes, unable to enter school grounds.

“Usually he’s upset when he gets up, but today he was ready to fly out of bed,” said Claudia Reyes as she stood outside the gate with her kindergarten son, Legend.

Challenges ahead

For the Los Angeles Unified School District the opening of the 2024-25 academic year is also about taking on renewed challenges.

Supt. Alberto Carvalho, entering the third full school year of his administration, is confronting lagging student achievement, declining enrollment, school safety worries, absenteeism and budget constraints.

He was up at 4:30 a.m. for an early start at a bus yard, then on to Main Street Elementary and a roster of other campuses.

Carvalho has hailed the rise in state test scores at every grade level that took the math and English assessments, although students are struggling to reach pre-pandemic levels. Attendance is following a similar trendline — much better but still in need of improvement.

Even though families were raving about her school, Main Street Principal Eva Rodriguez-Chavez said she has had to cope with declining enrollment, just like most other local schools. And she’s also pushing for better attendance rates, just as at other schools.

“My message to parents today: Please bring your child every day on time. We can’t support, we can’t do our job if they’re not here. If you’re worried, like, ‘I’m not sure how my child is feeling,’ we’ve got a full-time nurse who will check it out and make that determination with you.”

Chronic absenteeism — defined as missing at least 10% of the school year — soared when pandemic-shuttered campuses reopened in spring 2021. Just over 45% of students were chronically absent in 2021-22. The percentage dropped to 36.5% the following year, in 2022-23, the most recent year for which data have been posted. These numbers far exceed pre-pandemic levels, which already were considered high.

For Jordan High senior Katherine Castro, the 2024 academic year embodies the familiar as well as the new — and portends memorable moments ahead.

“It’s like a fresh new start and I try to reflect on the year before and what I can do better,” said Katherine, who is looking forward to senior events — like a trip to Disneyland — and who intends to join the first college-going generation of her family. “It feels nice to go back to school, especially since this is my last year.”

Getting to school

There is a complex infrastructure behind getting schools opened and students into class. And one important element for many students is the school bus.

Over the years, budget cutting limited daily bus service almost exclusively to students in magnet programs — meant to promote integration — and for students with disabilities. Yet there are about 25,000 empty seats on existing routes as school opens and officials have decided to try to fill them as a new service to families.

The district is advertising “transportation for all.” What that has meant is that parents can contact the transportation division to request an available seat if a bus stops where that student needs to go. This year the transportation division also has tried to add stops based purely on demand.

“It’s about how to be more efficient with the resources we have,” said transportation director Daniel Kang. “So we’ve brought in several routing experts, consultants, to provide their solutions and using our routing software as well.”

Some 59 operating buses are electric — with 250 expected to be in service by the end of year. They cost twice as much — about $350,000 apiece — and require the construction of charging centers, but are expected to save money over time in fuel costs, while also reducing pollution.

Families can coordinate transportation needs through the district’s online “parent portal.”

There’s definitely room for improvement in the view of L.A . parents who took part in a recent survey commissioned by HopSkipDrive, a tech-based transportation vendor.

About 40% of parents who drive their children to and from school say these obligations have caused them to miss work, with a similar number saying the task has interfered with their ability to seek out or accept new job opportunities. And 44% of those who drive to and from school said that “navigating and waiting in the pick-up or drop-off lane is one of the most stressful parts of their day.”

Keeping students in school

The district accelerated an outreach campaign that includes home visits. AI-enhanced software that was supposed to provide reminders and suggest resources has been shelved after the company that created it cratered financially.

Another strategy offers students and families support through wellness clinics such as the one that just opened adjacent to Jordan High in Watts. It will serve students as well as an estimated 1,000 nearby community members who can walk in or make appointments.

The needs are especially acute at Jordan. Compared with elsewhere in the school system, families in that area have the highest rates of asthma, the largest number of emergency-room visits for assaults, the greatest eligibility for Medi-Cal services and the most pressing need for dental care, said Ron Tanimura, the district’s director of student medical services and Medi-Cal programs.

Katherine, the Jordan High student, said that the clinic provides help and privacy for students, whether for contraceptive services or required physicals for sports.

People walk past an examination room in a clinic.

“There’s going to be more athletes this year,” said Katherine, who plans to study forensics in college. In the past, some girls who wanted to be on the soccer team “didn’t do their physical, so they weren’t a part of it, because they didn’t have a clinic to go to.”

She also appreciates the mental health component.

“Having the wellness clinic is like you have another place to go to that’s not necessarily inside the school, because maybe you’re insecure about other students seeing you.”

School safety

A male school board member speaks into a microphone at a meeting.

Officials view a pending cellphone ban as a major safety upgrade — mobile devices have been used to organize fights and drug sales on or near campuses . They hope to reverse a significant rise in fights and drugs on campus.

The district has tried to make campuses safer from outside threats by limiting entry and installing surveillance cameras. Threats inside a campus — such as bullying and vaping — are supposed to be managed through greater counseling resources and restorative justice , through which students who treat others badly or break rules are supposed to take responsibility for their actions and attempt to make amends.

The role of school police remains a topic of intense debate. Since mid-2020, officers have been limited to off-campus patrols, entering only to make arrests, conduct investigations or respond to an emergency situation.

One faction of students and parents wants to entirely eliminate the school police department, saying their presence traumatizes students and makes them feel unsafe.

Countering them are pro-police parents who, by the end of the last school year, had collected about 5,000 signatures on a petition calling for school police to be returned to campus.

“We’re here as parents fighting for more security and safety in the schools,” said Diana Guillen, a leader within the district’s parent-advisory committees at a school board meeting this month .

“All these programs that you’re doing truly don’t have an impact,” Guillen said. “I think if you want to take school police away, it has to be once the programs are already functioning — not when you’re experimenting with them. Because you’re playing with our kids lives.”

Meeting basic needs: Food

Students sample cafereria food.

School food has a poor reputation and L.A. Unified richly deserved it for years — combining poor nutrition with sketchy taste. It did not help that, for a time, the district built new schools without working kitchens, relying instead on trucked-in entrees assembled in a central kitchen and then reheated at the school.

But a succession of efforts has improved the menu. This year’s annual taste-testing of new offerings took place at the new kitchen at Belvedere Middle School in East L.A.

Students sampled and rated an acai bowl with fresh fruit and a cheesy jalapeno biscuit with hot honey chicken. A nod to cultural diversity appeared in the birria bowl and arroz con pollo. And vegans could try chickpea masala or a fresh bar with fruit, vegetables and hummus.

All produce is sourced within 200 miles, central kitchen supervisor Javier Gutierrez said proudly.

A young boy eats from a cup at at a school meal tasting event.

A $65,000 “combi” oven allowed cafeteria staff to follow a two-step process for making fresh cinnamon rolls — one temperature for the dough to rise and a different setting for the cooking, explained culinary supervisor Jamie Ginsburg.

Salik Mian, a junior at Chatsworth High — and a self-described picky eater who used to eat only white rice at Chinese restaurants, savored his first bite: “I love that actually.”

I was admitted to school at 6 years old. My father admitted me to a nearby primary school. I went every day with my elder brother because he was read in the same school.

I felt a bit nervous because it was my first time teaching from teachers with other students. But our teachers acted very fair to us, and we felt very easy to read and write. My father and elder brother encouraged me much. Every day I tried to go to school as early as possible to play on the school premises. I eagerly waited for the tiffin period to eat snacks and play the game.

Every day we attended four classes. Bangla, Mathematics, English, General knowledge , and drawings were our main subjects. Our class started at 10.00 am and ends at 2.00 pm, including the tiffin period. I have many friends both male and female within a few days. I tried to complete my home study regularly and perfectly to avoid any punishment from the teachers. By that, I passed my primary school with good results. My First Day at School

Essay No. 01

After about two months of summer vacation, our school reopened on the 16th of July, the 15th of July being the Sunday. After a long relaxation of two months inhabits to wake up late in the morning, I got up early in the morning. I took my breakfast and left for school. The school was to open at 9 a.m.

On one hand, I seemed to be quite enthusiastic to be again with my friends whom I really missed during the vacation but on the other, I seemed to be averse to the routine of the school which was not so exhilarating for its disciplined code of attending classes and reading lessons, solving sums and doing laboratory work Still there was something which made this routine somewhat worth doing.

On the way to school, I met my friends. Everyone looked cheerful. As we reached the school gate, we heard the ringing of the call bell. We first buried to our classrooms to keep our bags and then to prayer ground to attend the prayer. At the end of the prayer, our Principal addressed the boys. In his address, the Principal mentioned Wordsworth’s observation, “A twig is bent, so the tree will grow”. In relation to tender and delicate students he said that the minds of students were like photographic plates, whatever impressions are left on them, they retain it. So he advised us to cast the impressions which would include love of the motherland, devotion to duty, regularity, and punctuality. Then at the end of his address, we all went to our classes.

On the first day, we did not have our regular studies. Most of the teachers were busy with new admissions. Moreover, the students were also not in the mood to study. The students were talking about their experiences of the summer vacation. I told them about my visit to Ajanta, Allora, and stay in Nanital for a fortnight. In school, 1 found a large number of changes, broken window panes had been replaced, rooms were whitewashed and the furniture repaired. Everything looked new. The thing which I liked most was the water cooler, which was a great comfort to us in summer.

While we were enjoying gossiping in the class, the bell announced the beginning of the recess period. This year a new canteen was installed in the school. It was run by ‘Students Cooperative Society”. I went to the canteen with my friends. The tea, coffee, cold drinks, and snacks all were available at cheap rates. I had a cold drink and some snacks there. In the meantime, the call bell rang and we all went back to our classes.

After the fifth period, all the students assembled in the hall. The new corners were seated on the stage. At first, the Principal welcomed the new students. Some of them seemed to be very active and smart. They told about their likings and hobbies, which were admirable. In the end, the Principal welcomed the teachers. Soon the function came to an end. returned home with the sweet and happy memories of the day.

Essay No. 02

My first day at school was the beginning of my life. The day was significant for me and my family. My father had been looking forward to this day with great hope as he wanted that I should adjust in my class and rise in life, through hard work and co-operation.

Early that morning there was much stir in the family. My elder brother was particularly happy. That made him look responsible as I was kept under his charge. My father bought candies and we proceeded towards the school.

I was taken to the Principal’s office. The Principal was a big man with heavy, and bushy eyebrows. I almost dreaded him in the beginning. But soon I found that under those bushy eyebrows he had one of the softest pairs of eyes. And he spoke softly. He patted my back and asked me questions. I answered his questions without any feeling of fear. He talked to my father. Then my father took me to another gentleman who I learnt later was my class teacher.

He was tall, lean, and bespectacled. He greeted my father. He stretched his long arm and took me under his arm. He talked politely to me. My -father gave him the packet of candies and requested him to introduce me to the class and distribute the candies among my classmates. My father then took leave of him.

My teacher took me to my class. He told the boys that I was their new classmate. He then distributed the candies my father had given to him.

I was given a seat in the class. It was a new place and soon I started feeling lonely. Nobody in the class was known to me and no one talked to me. By recess time I was almost fed up with my school. I wanted to go home. The bell rang for recess. The boys from all the classes ran out. They flooded the school courtyard. But I stood alone in the crowd of strangers. I still remember how small I was then. Being unable to bear it any longer I began to cry. It was only a few minutes but it seemed ages before in brother arrived there. With him was another boy whose brother was also studying in my class. He brought him and introduced him to me. This was my first acquaintance in school. After the recess, we re-entered the classroom.

My teacher was told how I had cried during recess. He spoke politely to me. I liked him. I liked my new acquaintance also. Soon I felt calm and since that day I had never cried in school.

My First Day in School

When I passed class V, my father took me to Jain Happy Senior Secondary School, Daryaganj, Delhi.  My father took us there in his car. The sight of the grand building made me nervous. I entered the main gate. Many boys were sitting there in a group.

We went to the Principal. My father had a talk with him. My father filled out the admission form. He admitted me to the sixth standard. Then my father left for his office.

My elder brother was in the 8th grade in the same school. I still remember my first day in school. It was an interesting day for me. I was nine years old at that time.

There were about 3o students in the class. They were in their uniforms. They were reading the first lesson from the English Book. The class teacher was kind. She made me sit in the first row. She introduced me to other boys. Then there was teaching for four periods. The students were nice and friendly.

At recess, I went to the canteen. My brother was already there. We had our refreshment together. We played with toys.

At 12.30 the bell rang, and the school was over. My mother came to take me home. I always remember my first day in school.

Essay No. 04

Life is full of new experiences. One of them is going to school for the first time.

A school is a place of learning for a child, where they form new associations and come in contact with other children of their age, who may be of different temperaments or status from each other but are placed equally. It is here that they prepare themselves for their future life. This is the reason it is said that the education received in the school is the foundation of a child’s career.

I remember I was only five when I first went to school. I was very excited. It was a primary school. The experience of the first day at school is still fresh in my mind after all these years.

I was admitted to the K.G. Class. The school was small with eight rooms and there were about twelve or fifteen teachers in total.

My Class Teacher Miss Gupta was a very nice and soft-spoken lady who treated all the children like her own. Since I was a bit nervous in the new environment, she encouraged me to open up with the other students of the class.

In school, I got my first lesson on the alphabet in English and after those other lessons on Hindi and Maths. But the lesson I enjoyed most was the drawing, in which we could play with the colours. I also enjoyed other activities like clay modeling, building things with blocks. I would especially like to mention the fun I had on different types of rides and swings.

My first day at school was full of joy.

Whenever I ponder over my school days, the reflection takes me to a meek quiet boy. A reserve guy with quiet habits, feeling shy of everything. I find him dressed in khaki shorts and a white shirt, a pair of bright shining shoes with white socks. Well combed hair and slightly oiled face may be due to perspiration or nervousness. My father was transferred to Jalandhar from Shimla. The transfer came in the mid-session of the fourth class. I moved quite extensively from corner to corner with my father for admission, but everywhere, the answer was negative. It was after laborious efforts that D.A.V. Public School accepted to accommodate me in the new class.

In the next stage, my father left me at the school gate the next day and asked me, to proceed to my class. He perhaps felt that I was grown up enough to protect my own interest. I was moving towards the stairs with a very heavy and hesitant mind. Nobody was known to me except my class teacher who examined my papers for admission. He was perhaps sitting in the classroom because the morning assembly was already over. He was marking attendance as I stood at the entrance gate of the class. I was told that there were forty students in the class and myself was forty-one. Anyway, very reluctantly I peeped into the room. The teacher saw me and said, “Hello Sunil, so you have come. Come in and take your seat with Suresh on the first bench.” The only student on the desk accommodated me very willingly and provided me a seat with a helping and affectionate hand. Soon we were good friends. We were taught a new topic in the social study by the teacher. He asked some questions from the students which were not answered well. I took the initiative and answered all the questions to the best of my knowledge. The teacher was satisfied and enlisted me among the best ten students in the class.

It was recess time soon after and we all started playing in the central ground. Suresh introduced me to many other students of the class. The bell rang and we rushed to the class. Similar phases of the morning session repeated in the next period of Mathematics and English. The concerned teachers appreciated my capability at studies and this helped me to gain better confidence in myself. Soon the periods were over we were asked to pack up for return. My class teacher guided me to proceed towards the bus. The conductor shook hands with me and welcomed me for a good seat. It was a beautiful and well-provided bus. I reached home in an hour. My mother was waiting for me on the main crossing. She asked me about the school and its teaching staff. I gave all the best appreciation to my teachers and told my mother that I had formed a good number of friends and that I enjoyed the day very nicely. She was happy that my silence and hesitation has ultimately wound up for good. She felt happy that I could fit in well in the new setup and atmosphere.

My First Day at School

Essay No. 01

Life is full of new events. Going to a school for the first time for a child is to face  a new situation. It is a new event for him because its atmosphere is quite different. First day at school is an experience which I cannot forget. Its memory is still fresh in my mind. It was July 15. I got up early in the morning on this day. I got myself prepared. With my father I started towards my new school.

We entered the office where I found four men sitting behind the counter. My father got a form from one of them. He filled it. Then we entered the Principal’s office. My father gave the form to him. He looked at the form and struck a bell. At once a peon came in. he ordered him to take us to the staff room.

The peon led us to the room where I found the teachers round a long table. My father gave the form to one of them. The teacher put my knowledge to test in English. He found me fit. Another teacher gave me five sums to solve.

I solved them easily. Both the teachers wrote something on the form. Again my father entered the Principal’s office. He ordered for my admission. My father deposited my dues in the office. I was sent to IX-B classroom with a chit.

I went into the classroom and took my seat in the last row in front of me there was a big blackboard on the wall. Near it there was a decent chair and a table for the teachers on a raised platform. After a few minutes a teacher entered the classroom. I gave the chit to him. He wrote my name in the register. The teacher was an interesting fellow. He passed a few funny remarks.

At the recess bell we rushed out of the classroom. It was the leisure time. Some boys approached me. They cracked jokes. One of them said, “Form which jungle are you coming?” I was silent. Fortunately three boys ran for my help. They took me round the school building. They showed me reading room and library, I found the school ball well decorated with paintings. As the bell rang we were again  in the classroom. Four teachers attended their periods but none taught us.

At 12-30 the last bell went. The classes were over. When I reached home, I was quite glad. I told my mother about the new school. She was glad to hear the account of my first day. This day was  glad to hear the account of my first day. This day was a memorable day for me, because I liked the school. I studied here for three years but  there was always a recollection of my first day in this school. I could not say about my first L.K.G. class because at that time I was too young to understand.

Every child’s first day at school is always very exciting At least; it was so in my case.

I remember my first day at school very vividly. I remember it was my mother who took me to my school on my first day.

I had a small bag in my hand. It contained an exercise book, my pencil box and my bottle, beside my tiffin. I actually did not need all these things, but had insisted on my taking them with me.

My father had already filled up the admission from and submitted it to the school principle a number of days before. Now, I had to appear for an interview.

My father had already filled up the admission form and submitted it to the school principle a number of days before. Now, I had to appear for an interview.

My mom took me inside the principal’s office. I felt a little awed as I saw a tall, big lady with a dominating personality occupying a revolving chair. However, her sweet voice soon delayed my fears.

She studied the admission form quickly she expressed satisfaction regarding my age to and my parent’s qualifications. She asked me to come close to her. I moved forward rather sheepishly. But she patted me n the back lovingly. Then she asked me a few simple question such as my name, my parent’s name etc.

Meanwhile I had gathered courage and I was able to answer the entire question without much hesitation. The principle was satisfied and she expressed her satisfaction through a broad smile.

She wrote ‘yes’ at the appropriate columns in the admission form. My mother came with me outside and deposited the fee with the fee clerk.

I had got admission to the nursery class. It was however on the next day. I actually attended class. The day of my admission to the school was really very exciting.

 My First Day in School

It was a bright sunny day. My mom dropped me at the school main gate. I took a deep breath and started walking towards the main entrance. I was in an emotional turmoil. I was excited, scared and a little bit nervous. I slowly walked forward as I started looking at all the other kids. Most were in groups and all talking laughing and smiling. I felt very small, like I was an alien who had just landed on planet Earth. I wanted to go back but that was not possible. When I got to the main building of the school I walked up to the reception area where I enquired about my class room.

Instead, I felt like I had just been arrested for murder. I was bombarded with about 5 questions all at once. I answered them all.

I went to each class feeling like a Joker, as everyone stared at me because I didn’t dress like them. I thought someone would come and say ‘hello’ to me. To this day, I am still waiting. No one has taken the time here to get to know me or like me. I know they all judged me, as I also judged them. At last, I found my class and found two of the teachers actually impressed me, which surprised me; I didn’t think anyone in the whole school would impress me. The teacher introduced me as a new student in the class and showed me my seat. I was feeling like a science model and they were going to do experiment on me. In break, I came out from my class, sitting alone in canteen and missing my Mom and Dad. Again, I went back to my class. I was feeling very lonely. Last period was a dance period. Everyone was dancing with their partners but I was sitting alone. At the end of the day, I still hated the new school, missing all my old friends. However, as time passed, I made new friends. Today, I am a brilliant student and captain of football team. I have now learned to go to school. And I hope to graduate with good grades this year. I have learned that I have courage and strength and I will succeed this year ever if I am in someplace I don’t like. I have learned I can succeed even if everything isn’t the way I like it. And with this courage, I will graduate.

I had sought admission in DAV Public School. I got up early in the morning and got myself prepared.

I boarded the school bus and reached the school. The sight of the grand building made me nervous.

I entered the main gate. Many boys were sitting there in a group. They welcomed me in a good manner.

One of the boys befriended me. He took me to the class-room. He introduced me to other boys. I took my seat in the first row. Then there was teaching for four periods.

During recess period, we rushed out of the class. I was, alone in the play-ground. Finding me alone, some boys approached me. They cut silly jokes but I was not annoyed.

They got pleased with my nature and took me round the school building. They also showed me the Library. They also made me share their lunch packets.

My First Day at School

On the first day my mother accompanied me to school. Other parents also accompanied their children. We all waited in front of the school office.

After a while, a teacher came and led us to some class-rooms and we were put into four separate classes. There some children began to cry as the parents were not allowed into the class-rooms but I did not cry.

It was an enjoyable time for me as I got to know my new classmates. The teacher was very busy writing down our particulars so we had plenty of time to introduce ourselves. Soon recess came. Some of us headed for the bookshop while the rest headed for their parents. I bought a drink with the money my mother had given me. Getting to know my new friends had made me thirsty.

After the recess we went back to our class-room, and my new friends and I managed to coax two boys to stop crying. In fact, soon we were laughing and playing together. Once in a while the teacher had to tell us to keep quiet as we were making too much noise.

Finally, the bell rang for us to go home. Some of us were very relieved to be reunited with our parents. It had been a wonderful first day at school.
