The Global Excellence and Mobility Scholarship (GEMS) program aim to bring the best and brightest PhD students to Monash University Malaysia, where they can work with top-class research teams on some of the world’s core challenges.

The GEMS program offers 15 scholarships each year from 2022 to 2024, and scholarship recipients will be funded for 39 months. Each PhD student will be supervised by a team of staff in Malaysia and Australia, and as such, the program will include a paid placement in Australia for up to 12 months.

Eligibilities

• Malaysian and International students are eligible
• To enter Monash University, you must satisfy particular academic and English language requirements.
• To be eligible for GEMS, you must possess a minimum academic qualification of First Class Honours (H1) or its equivalence (H1E) recognised by Monash Malaysia.
• Global Excellence and Mobility Scholarship (GEMS) recipients are required to contribute a maximum of 10 hours per week in academic support and/or research support activities as determined by the managing School.

Monash University Scholarship 2025-2026 is a fully funded scholarship for international students. This scholarship is offered for masters and doctoral research studies. This scholarship covers annual living allowance:  $39,820, relocation allowance: $550 and research allowance per annum: $1,500.

The Monash Silver Jubilee Scholarship (MSJS) is available to help support a student with living costs whilst studying at Monash.  It is awarded each year to different faculties by rotation. Eligibility Criteria for Monash University Scholarship 2024

To be eligible for Monash University Scholarship, candidates must fulfill following requirements:

• English Language Test requirements for General: (6.5) overall (no band less than 6.0) in IELTS, and (79 +) Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18 & Writing 21 in TOEFL.
• English Language Test requirements for Arts, Business and Economics: (7) overall (no band less than 6.5) in IELTS, and (94 +) Reading 19, Listening 20, Speaking 20 & Writing 24 TOEFL.
• An International student.
• A New Zealand citizen.
• An Australian citizen.
• Australian permanent resident.
• Australian humanitarian visa holder.
• A bachelor’s degree requiring at least four years of full-time study in a relevant field, and which normally includes a research component in the fourth year, leading to an honours 1 or 2A in a relevant field;
• A course leading to a level rated by the relevant department, faculty and committee as equivalent to an honours 1 or 2A in a relevant field;
• A master’s degree that entails work, normally including a significant research component, including at least 25% of one full time equivalent year of work, including a thesis. It is normally expected that a grade of honours 2A has been obtained for the research thesis or project. Where ungraded, examiners’ reports will be taken into account;
• Have qualifications which in the opinion of GRC are deemed equivalent.
• Scholarships are awarded based on an applicant’s academic record, research output and prior research experience.
• Have not previously held an Australian Government or Monash-funded Postgraduate Research Award for more than six months.

The 2025 John Monash Scholarships close at 5 pm AEST on 1 July 2024.

This year, successful John Monash Scholars – who can be of any age, study any discipline, and choose to study anywhere in the world – will receive $80,000 for each year of scholarship:

• $80,000 for a one-year Master’s.
• $160,000 for a two-year Master’s.
• $240,000 for a PhD.

The John Monash Scholarships, which have been running for 20 years, are uniquely Australian. They are proudly supported by Australians for Australians. Funders include governments, companies, trusts and foundations, and individuals.

Prospective applicants and academic mentors can find information on the scholarships on the John Monash website  .
