The unbelievably beautiful scenes of Kalam, Naraan, Kagaan, Sawat and Kashmir marvel the visitors. The tourists can’t help praising the awesome scenic beauty of these places.

Anyhow being true patriots, we need to remove the evils which stain our beloved land. The need of the hour is to remove corruption, unbalanced distribution of wealth, unemployment, poverty, smuggling, illiteracy and terrorism from our country. We need to encourage, justice and fundamental electoral reforms to make our country very powerful, strong, united and formidable.

Patriotism Essay - 100, 200, 500 Words

Essay on patriotism -.

Patriotism can be defined as the attachment and commitment that one feels towards their` country or nation. Being a "good citizen" in the traditional sense means to have a sense of patriotism, sometimes known as "being patriotic". Those who love their country and desire to defend it against enemies are called patriots. Patriotism is one’s desire to show respect and love for their country and fellow citizens.

100 Words Essay On Patriotism

“Citizenship consists in the service of the country.”- Jawaharlal Nehru .

The term "patriotism" refers to loyalty and respect for one's country . Patriotism signifies a devotion to a specific political community but not necessarily to its current system of government. Patriotism can be defined in several ways, emphasising different aspects of the concept.

Scholars have proposed various definitions of patriotism. One such definition holds that patriotism strengthens national bonds and fosters national loyalty when people of the country share a common belief in their country's superiority and show affection for national symbols. Scholars have agreed on patriotism in support of nationalism based on superiority and foreign sovereignty.

200 Words Essay On Patriotism

The slogan given by Subhash Chandra Bose - "Give me blood, and I will give you freedom", shows their patriotism and determination towards the country.

Patriotism has a protective nature, both aggressive and cultural . Patriotism is proof that a country is united in pursuing a common goal. Patriotism is a term that has no intention of putting pressure on other people, and it defines a place that is the best in the world and has the best lifestyle and people's boundaries toward this idea. Social psychologists emphasise the primary characteristics of patriotism as loyalty, love, and desire to belong to a country. Patriotism is not the same for everyone; it is not just to sacrifice one’s life; one can even show patriotism by giving selfless services to the country.

Finally, patriotism may be viewed as a social construct that emerges gradually because of an individual's cultural engagement. It is usual for individuals to express their love and compassion for places they adore, just as it is natural for children to express their love for their parents and the organisations in which they engage. However, throughout the process of developing nations, individuals felt that they were members of society far more significant than themselves.

500 Words Essay On Patriotism

“Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in it.” - George Bernard Shaw .

The concepts of "loyalty," "commitment," and "dedication" are essential to the concept of "patriotism." In its most condensed form, patriotism is a person's passion for their country or nation and is one of the oldest political virtues. Its appeal is more emotional than analytical and requires accepting responsibility for the political system or state. Patriotism is based on an often-unspoken idea, the political equivalent of the saying "blood is thicker than water," reminding individuals that they should prioritise their family over all others.

How Is Patriotism Expressed

Patriotism can be expressed using the terms "love for country", and nationalism, also known as "loyalty to one's nation," are sometimes used interchangeably. Nationalism, sometimes mistaken for patriotism, refers to a distinct phenomenon: the actual or aspirational merger of a shared ethnicity and state sovereignty. Real patriots (our freedom fighters) showed the true meaning of patriotism by sacrificing their own lives for the sake of our country. The freedom we enjoy in terms of economic, social, political and cultural aspects is due to them only.

Patriots | Patriotism was extreme in India at the time of British reign. Some of the greatest patriots are Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru and much more, who contributed the utmost for the freedom of our country.

Nationalism and Patriotism

Nationalism and patriotism are two expressions that demonstrate an individual's connection to their country. People tend to believe that they mean the same thing but that there is a significant difference between nationalism and patriotism. While nationalism emphasises the inheritance of language and cultural unity, patriotism emphasises values and beliefs and aims to achieve love for the country and nation.

Patriotism comes from a country's freedom, justice, and equality principles. A patriot believes that the country's government and people are decent and strive for a better life. Nationalists believe that their country is superior to the others. This also implies distrust or disapproval of other nations, implying that they are competitors. Nationalists often demand worldwide dominance, whereas patriots do not.

Examples Of Patriotism

Patriotism can be seen by standing for the national anthem and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The most common way to show patriotism is to help in nation-building and economic growth. However, there are other ways of representing patriotism.

Voting in elections

Proudly displaying your country's achievements

·Paying taxes and obeying all laws

Celebrating national holidays

Buying local items

Pros And Cons Of Patriotism

Few nations survive and thrive without some level of patriotism among their citizens. People come together to overcome obstacles because they have a love of the nation and a sense of shared pride. The possible drawback of patriotism is that if it turns into a political doctrine, it may cause individuals to turn against one another and even cause the nation to abandon its core principles.

Essay on Patriotism 500+ words

Patriotism is a deep love and devotion for one’s country. It’s more than waving a flag; it’s about valuing our nation’s history, culture, and values. In this essay, we’ll explore the importance of patriotism and how it brings people together, fosters pride, and shapes our identity.

A Sense of Belonging

Patriotism creates a sense of belonging. When we feel proud of our country, we feel connected to all its citizens, regardless of our differences. According to a study by the Pew Research Center, 72% of Americans believe that being patriotic means loving their country, while 62% say it means respecting their fellow citizens.

Uniting in Times of Crisis

Patriotism unites people during challenging times. When faced with natural disasters or national crises, citizens come together to support each other. For instance, after Hurricane Katrina hit the United States, countless patriotic volunteers rushed to help those in need, showcasing the power of unity.

Patriotism’s Role in History

Throughout history, patriotism has played a crucial role in shaping nations. The American Revolution, for example, was fueled by the deep love for freedom and the desire to build a better nation. Our Founding Fathers were patriots who fought for the principles we hold dear today.

A Source of Civic Responsibility

Patriotism encourages civic responsibility. When we love our country, we’re more likely to engage in activities that benefit society. According to a report by the Corporation for National and Community Service, patriotic individuals are more likely to volunteer, vote, and participate in community projects.

Patriotism as a Bridge

Essay for Patriotism

When we think of the importance of patriotism, four kinds of people haunt our mind. People of the first kind are those who are chauvinists. They are obsessed with the idea of patriotism. They are practically fascists like Hitler and Mussolini. Such people may be imperialistic like Churchill. The second kind of people is traitors like Quisling. But unlike Quisling, such people generally remain hidden under the surface. Many of them may pose to be great patriots but actually they may be outright traitors. The third kind of people may be just indifferent to the idea of patriotism and they may maintain this indifferent attitude at all times even in the times of calamities and natural disasters. The fourth kind of people, who may be the commonest, may be of the type who remain indifferent to the idea generally but rise to occasion in time of war, floods, earthquakes, cyclones, and famines or other disasters and national calamities. To these kinds may be added a fifth kind. Such people may be more dangerous and treacherous than ordinary traitors. These are the people who engage themselves in antinational activities such as terrorism, communalism, fake currency making, scams, smug selling sensitive military and other information to the enemies of the country, etc.  We must bear in mind that the nation whose people do not have the spirit of patriotism in them, will just disintegrate sooner or later, we must bow to our country which is our motherland where we are born and which supplies us everything we need.  The man who does not love his country is just a dead soul as Sir Walter Scott has said:-

`Breathes there the man with soul so dead, Who never to himself hath said?  “This is my own, my native land!”

Patriotism, at its core, represents a deep love, pride, and loyalty towards one’s own country. It emphasizes a sense of belonging and a desire to contribute to the well-being of the nation. nationalism tends to focus on the superiority and interests of one’s nation over others. In contrast, nationalism, when expressed positively and inclusively, can foster unity and collective progress. It promotes social cohesion and a commitment to the nation. Striving for a balanced approach that respects both individual rights and the needs of the community is important.

5. Which is better for a state, patriotism or nationalism? Ans : Patriotism, with its emphasis on love and loyalty towards one’s country while respecting diversity, is generally considered better for a state than extreme nationalism. Patriotism in Simple Words

In simple words, patriotism is a sense of responsibility, love, and respect towards one’s nation. It is also identified by a sense of unity as well as concern for other citizens. A patriot puts the nation first, before his/her own issues. It is identified by a deep sense of duty towards the nation even above self.

Examples of Patriotism

Indian freedom struggle is the best example of patriotism. When East India came to India, the latter was a disintegrated group of small to large kingdoms, having their own governance and rules.

Subsequent British atrocities and unjust trade policies instilled unrest among the original inhabitants of the continent. This unrest consequently led to a territorial unity arising more out of the need of the time than anything else.

Kingdoms and their subjects knew that they have to stay united if they ever have to fight the British out of their land. This developed the concept of one nation that is India and zeal to defend her freedom and the right of her inhabitants. This feeling of risking ones’ own life for the freedom of the nation and her people is nothing but patriotism.

The history of Indian freedom struggle is replete with many patriots who never gave it a second thought before sacrificing their lives and belongings for the freedom of the motherland.

Patriotism—Its Merits and Limitations

Patriotism Versus Internationalism

Patriotism Alone is not Enough

Essay No. 01

“Who is here so vile that will not love his country?”                 “You’ll never have a quiet world till you knock the patriotism out of the human race.”

Patriotism means love of one’s native land.  Just as we love our father and mother, so we love land of our birth.  This feeling is called patriotism.

Water Scott has rightly said:                 Breather there the man with soul so dead,                 Who to himself hath never said:                 “This is my own, my native land.”

But we find some people who love themselves more than they love their parents.  They think of their own happiness and comforts before the comforts and happiness of their father and mother.  Similarly, some people love their country less and love themselves more.  Such people are selfish.

This should not be the case.  It shows an unfeeling heart and a selfish nature.  Just as it is the first duty of a child to love his home, so also it is the first duty of every one to love the land of his birth. A man owes much to the land of his birth. Just as he grows up in the lap of his mother, he is brought from making any sacrifice for his mother land when he is called upon to do so.  Who can forget the great sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chander Bose, Lala Lajpat Rai, Gandhi, Nehru and other freedom fighters who sacrificed their all for the freedom of their motherland? Such patriots are honoured very where in all ages.

Patriotism is of two kinds: the first is a healthy one and should be encouraged while the second one is of an undesirable kind and should be condemned.  Healthy patriotism teaches us to love out county with all our heart and to do everything in our power to make our country happy, great and glorious.  IT tells us to build our glory on the ruins and suffering of other nations.  The first kind of patriotism is good for our country and for the world  The second kind of patriotism is bad for the world and will, sooner or later, be bad for the country that oppresses others.

It is our duty to love the land of our birth.  It is also our duty not to hate other nations.  We must try to cultivate a healthy type of patriotism and to devote ourselves whole heartedly to the uplift and prosperity of our own country.  We must not have the perverted notion of patriotism that believes in the dictum : “My country, right or wrong.” Most of the crimes against humanity have been committed by people having this type of fanatic patriotism.  Patriotism must go hand in hand with internationalism.  One should never forget one’s duty towards humanity in general.  Such patriotism as encourages narrow, parochial fanaticism is a bad type of patriotism which has no place in a fastly progressing civilization of today.

Essay No. 02

Patriotism means intense love and support to ones own country. Patriotism and nationalism is one and the same thing for both believe in putting national interests above other international considerations. Patriotism is one of the strongest human sentiments. It is expected from every citizen of a country that he or she would cherish a deep and abiding love and concern for the country, yet there can be found many traitors and spurious patriots. They are a real danger to a country. They are more dangerous than real enemies. A nation can guard well against external and known enemy, but it is not so easy to deal with internal enemy in the guise of false and spurious patriots. They are just like wolves in sheep’s skin. They never hesitate to betray their country for personal gains. In India such people are called Jai Chand and Vibhishana for the former invited Mohammed Gori to attack Prithviraj, a patriotic ruler and the latter betrayed Lanka and Ravana, its ruler, who was also Vibhishana’s elder brother. It was altogether a different matter that demon king Ravana was a tyrant and embodiment of evil.

True patriots are the real strength of a nation. A nation is not only a physical entity of land, rivers, mountains, industries, etc. but also an intense feeling and love of the masses. The citizen of a nation are always ready to make any sacrifice for the unity, integrity, safety and progress of their country. They consider no sacrifice too great to be made for their beloved mother or fatherland. India has produced many great patriots like Shivaji, Rana Pratap, Maharani Lakshmi Bai, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, to name only a few. The sacrifices made by them are written in golden words in the history of our country. Many of them died for the sake of our motherland, and thus became martyrs.

Patriotism is a must for the success of a country both in peace and war. But it is war which tests the real patriotism. A patriot in crisis is a patriot indeed. One who fails to come forward to offer his valuable services during crisis is not a patriot, but a traitor. In such a vast country as India it is not surprising if there are a few traitors. It is with every country, but we should always be on our guard against such elements. Sometimes we hear of such people as passing on vital secrets to foreigners and enemies for money and other gains. They should be condemned in no uncertain terms. Narrow self-interests and self-aggrandisement is the guiding principle of the life of such abominable people. Such selfish people should be exposed and suitably punished.

It is the duty and obligation of every citizen to be faithful to his or her country. Complete allegiance to ones own country is a great virtue. In the words of famous German philosopher Schelegel, “The highest bliss of the human soul is love and the noblest love is devotion to our fatherland”. Patriotism means intellectual, emotional and sentimental involvement into the affairs of a nation. There are many occasions to show ones patriotism, but during external aggression or internal subversion it can be most suitably expressed. The patriotic fervour satisfies some of our deepest urges. The common man’s patriotism finds expression in being honest, sincere, and upright in the discharge of their duties and obligations towards the society and the country they belong to. One should be a patriot both in letter and spirit. Mere singing national songs and praising one’s country are not enough. They should be well matched with true patriotic actions.

According to Edith Cavell, “Patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone.” In the similar voice Dr. Jhonson said, “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel”. These comments draw our attention to the dangers of jingoism which propagates narrow chauvinism and aggressive patriotism. There is no denying the fact that in the name of patriotism the peace and progress of the world have been jeopardized many a time. The last two world wars are a living example of this danger. The Nazis under Hitler in Germany made mass killings, particularly of the Jews, in the name of patriotism and German nationalism. In this context patriotism is not really enough. It should ultimately merge into internationalism. We should always sacrifice lesser good for the sake of greater good. Narrow fanatic and jingoistic love of one’s own country is certainly undesirable. Such undesirable patriotism has given rise to fascism and nazism which have been a real danger, for the world.

With the rapid advancement of science and technology, the countries of the world have come closer, and the distances have shrunk. This has ushered in a closer world cooperation and understanding. Gone are the days when countries lived in isolation. Today the nations are interlinked and interdependent. Our patriotism should be tempered with the thoughts of world cooperation, understanding, peace and prosperity of others. In this age of speed, enlightenment education and world cooperation patriotism does not mean blind faith and alone. The words said by Thomos allegiance to ones country  Pain, “The world is my country, all mankind are my brethem, and to do good is my religion”, should act as our guiding light. All men are equal and essentially one. All people laugh, weep and feel in the same fashion. Their requirements are the same. The differences are not real but apparent, and the divisions men-made. It does not mean there is no room for patriotism. It only means that patriotism should be understood and practised in its proper perspective and that it should merge into internationalism as do the various rivers into the sea.

Essay No. 03

Patriotism is the love of one’s own country. It is a divine spark in the human breast. It teaches a man to love his own native land more than anything else. A patriot thinks no sacrifice too great for his country; he is ever prepared to die for his motherland. Cowper says, “England, with all thy faults, I love thee still”.

Patriotism is a noble virtue. The Sanskrit proverb says that your mother and motherland are greater even than heaven. In our country’s distress or danger, we should be ready to stand by her, to work for her, to lay down our lives for her if need be. Has she not nursed us on her lap, nourished us of her plenty and sheltered us in her warmth? Not to love one’s country is ingratitude indeed.

But this should not bind us to the fact that patriotism is everything, it may not always be the highest duty of a man. A narrow-minded exclusive patriotism is a positive danger. Nothing is more criminal than the senseless cry of the English poet, “My country, right or wrong”. It is this sort of foolish thing that the Englishmen constantly applaud in themselves and condemn in others. “Patriotism has become”, says H.G. Wells, “a mere national self-assertion, a sentimentality of flag cheering with no constructive duties”. This is the brand of patriotism that Rabindranath denounced in his lectures on Nationalism.

A bigoted patriotism is a perpetual cause of war. And this patriotism flourishes whenever there is war. Therefore, the wise Chinese philosopher, Lao-tze, called it a bad and harmful feeling, and ‘a stupid doctrine’. World War II began with Hitler’s boastful and aggressive patriotism. All wars are born of similar sentiments. George Washington, than whom there cannot be a greater patriot, once wrote to a friend, “A great and lasting war can never be supported on this principle (patriotism) alone”. Bernard Shaw said, “You will not have a quit world till you knock this patriotism out of the human race”.

Patriotism often makes us unjust, unfair and ungenerous in our estimate of other people. Every nation, every race, has something definite and distinctive to contribute to the cultural heritage of the world. It is foolish to say that any one nation has all the monopoly of God’s good gifts. There was a time when our leader spoke of India’s mission of spiritualising the world and the sentiment was applauded because it appealed to the patriot in each one of us. But all missionary zeal that draws its inspiration from national self-love is wrong. No nation has a monopoly of the virtue. Patriotism must be sobered by a proper respect for other people’s culture.

Above all, whenever we are ready to launch forth in a career of national boastfulness, let us remember Edith Cavell’s noble words: “I must have no hatred or bitterness towards any one”. It is what Mahatma Gandhi declared from behind the bars, Patriotism is good, but it must not supersede the feeling of universal love for all humanity. It must not make us indifferent to the growing concept of “One World”.

The fact is that we often mix up patriotism with mere nationalism. If we could keep this distinction clear, patriotism will never mislead us into vain glorious boastfulness. A writer once said that while “patriotism was lively sense of collective responsibility, nationalism was a silly cock crowing on its own dunghill”. Nationalism is a kind of geographic parochialism that shuts the door on the rest of mankind. We know the brand and should keep clear of its evils.

Patriotism does not lie in thinking that one’s own country is the best. We must love our country, but we must not have any other country or people. The true patriot must respect other countries because he respects his own. He must be prepared to learn from them, to help them, to co-operate with them. Then gradually patriotism will be superseded by the cult of universal brotherhood.

Essay No. 04

Patriotism is a very complex and powerful sentiment which all of us have. It evolves from a necessary sense of belonging and fraternity, which, as social beings, we cannot do without. As a combination of several facets of character, like loyalty, sincerity, devotion, courage and love, patriotism serves as an important source of discipline and stability in modem living concepts. Though modern lifestyles are very sophisticated, and their priorities quite varied, the conflicts that such sophistication and variety create, may be resolved if people are made to realize the importance of cooperation and solidarity among themselves. It is common in a society that is threatened, to see its people ignore their differences and unite to defeat the threats. Such instances amply illustrate, that despite the selfishness in our actions, we do let an undercurrent of consideration for causes beyond our own, to flow within our minds. Patriotism is the net result of such a consideration.

From its early linkage with loyalty towards things beyond one’s own, patriotism, in modern times has come to mean loyalty to the distinctly organized nation state into which a person is born. Alternatively, patriotism is the expression of pride in nativity and a declaration of responsibility and obligation towards one’s nation. In the modern context, therefore, patriotism is a highly exalted and sacred sentiment, which may be stirred to galvanize a society into action.

The sentiment of patriotism, by virtue of its volatility, has created lasting effects on social behaviour, both acceptable and despicable. In India, patriotism and self-respect were the ideals on which the edifice of the freedom struggle was founded. The vigor of those ideals was tried and tested against the vices of imperialism for over a century, before imperialism was forced to give itself up. Despite the crises of conflicts and deprivation, and threats of secession that have been plaguing us ever since Independence, the flame of patriotism continues to flicker in our minds; serving as a girdling wreath, protecting our nation’s integrity as well as helping to keep off threats of foreign domination. Patriotism, in our context, functions as a tonic of reinvigoration and a deterrent against foreign mischief.

But not always or everywhere has patriotism been a blessing. Being a vibrant emotion, patriotism, in order to be useful, should be maneuvered by safe and sane counsel; it will otherwise be a monstrous proposition. History cites numerous instances when patriotic feeling and loyalty towards causes have been manipulated to venomous proportions to victimize societies. Hitler and his Nazi party inheriting a defeated and demoralized Germany, played on the German people’s patriotism and yearning for self-respect, in his quest to consolidate power. He skillfully appealed to German society, in the name of patriotism and dignity, for support to his preferences; which most Germans, unaware of the consequences, provided. Hitler’s aim of transforming patriotic feelings into a fuel for worldwide conquest, and using it as a venom for subjugation and exploitation, could ultimately succeed only to the extent of widespread destruction and loss of lives in the order of millions.

Taking a cue from Hitler’s tactics, many tyrants since him have wreaked havoc on society as much as, if not to a greater measure than he did. Patriotism has, owing to such adventures, been suffering a loss of credibility. The erosion of its exalted status is evident from the quote: “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel” ! But such loss of credibility, hopefully, will not affect the importance of patriotism in national stability and welfare. Despite the misuse it often suffers, patriotism continues to have the ability to stir people into realizing seemingly impossible tasks. It was more the feeling of patriotism than anything else that motivated a hopelessly impoverished and disgracefully armed Russian society to withstand, and eventually to defeat, a superior, more powerful and better organized German army during the Second World War. Hence, to the extent of its ability to motivate and discipline people, patriotism is a vital sentiment that deserves to be cherished, and more importantly, to be nourished.

Speech on Patriotism for Students in English

Patriotism is the love and pride for one’s nation to an extent of sacrificing even one’s life for the betterment of it. A great sense of patriotism was shown by our freedom fighters during their struggle for independence. A soldier is also considered to be a patriot who loves and respects his country and is ready to sacrifice his life for the development of it. Does that mean only soldiers and freedom fighters are patriots? Well below-given speeches on patriotism, a long speech on patriotism and a short patriotism speech in English will answer a few questions about patriotism.

'Good morning everyone!' It is my pleasure to say a few words about patriotism. You may have heard this word many times especially to describe the freedom fighters. So what is patriotism ? and who is said to be a patriotic person?

Patriotism could be defined as the love for the nation to the extent of sacrificing your life for the betterment of it. A person who supports his or her country and is ready to defend it against enemies is called a patriot. A true patriot is considered to be the backbone of the nation.

Patriotism is required for the growth of a nation. The patriotism of a person is tested during important times like the sudden outbreak of a pandemic, a war, during national disasters and national emergencies.

We could say that our freedom fighters were the best example of patriotism. During that time every Indian wanted one thing and it was to have freedom from British rule. Many freedom fighters worked together to achieve independence. They are the true example of a patriot who did not think about their lives and made a lot of sacrifices to bring independence to our country. It is because of the patriotism shown by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Abdul Kalam Azad, and many noble personalities that we live in a free and democratic country.

I do believe that being patriotic for the country only on Republic day and independence day is not the true form of patriotism, Posting about it on social media is not patriotic. A patriotic person will always work for the country's development silently. A patriot will be ready to help his fellow Indians whenever they are in danger rather than posting it about on social media. Patriotism cannot be taught by anyone as it is the true feeling a person develops on his own.

You may think that patriotism always means to go to war for the country or shed the blood of the enemies who are against the country. Well, patriotism does not always mean fighting for the country or shedding blood. Showing true love for a country when it’s in danger through your actions is patriotism and the best example was given by few people in 2020.

We all know 2020 was a harsh year due to covid-19. Many Indians lost their lives and jobs, and schools were closed. No transportation facilities were provided to migrant workers and farmers, and hospitals were rushed with patients who were infected by the coronavirus. This was the time true patriotism was shown by many people which included front line workers and actor Sonu Sood.

Ever since the outbreak of coronavirus Sonu Sood has shown his love for his fellow Indians by helping thousands of migrant workers, students, and farmers through a random act of kindness. From providing meals to the underprivileged and offering transport facilities for standard labourers to help them get back to their hometown. He also denoted personal protective equipment to frontline health care personnel and that for me is the sign of a true patriot as he was there to help the country when it was in danger.

I would like to conclude this speech by saying that we should all show unity and togetherness. By helping each other only we can be the ladder that would help in developing our country. As I said, patriotism is the most important thing for the development of the country. A patriot on the other hand could be anyone who does his job with a passion which would result in the development of the country. Thank you and Jai Hind.

Short Speech on Patriotism

'Good morning everyone!', It is an honour and immense pleasure to give a speech on patriotism.

Patriots will always think about the development of the country and are ready to defend it against enemies. A true patriot is considered to be the backbone of the nation.

The patriotism of a person is tested when the country is in danger like a sudden outbreak of a pandemic, national emergency, or natural disaster. A true patriot will help his fellow citizens of the country whenever there is danger.

Freedom fighters are the best example that showcases patriotism. During the struggle for independence, all that our freedom fighters wanted was independence from British Rule, and together they achieved it.

Showing love for the country only on Independence Day and Republic day and posting about it on social media does not make one patriot. A patriotic person will always work for the country's development silently. A patriot will be ready to help his fellow Indians whenever they are in danger rather than posting it about on social media.

I would like to conclude this speech on patriotism by saying that we should all show unity and togetherness. Together only we can make our country great.

Thank you

Being together and helping each other for the development of the country is what true patriotism is about.

Patriotism cannot be taught to anyone; it is the purest feeling a person develops for his country's betterment.

Patriotism is defined as a strong affection for one's nation. This virtue motivates citizens to labour selflessly for their nation and improve it. True patriots make up a genuinely developed country. In other words, patriotism entails first thinking for the country's interests and then thinking about oneself. Patriotism is most visible during times of conflict. Furthermore, it contributes to the strengthening of the nation. There are more meanings to patriotism.

Patriotism's Importance

Our nation is usually alluded to as our country. This shows that we should cherish our country however much we love our mom. All things considered, our nation is no less like a mother, sustaining and directing us. Enthusiasm is a goodness that everybody ought to make progress toward since it works on the world.

Besides, it further develops the occupants' personal satisfaction. It does this by expecting residents to work to the greatest advantage of the nation all in all. There would be no irreconcilable circumstance assuming everybody worked for the government assistance of the country. Therefore, a cheerful climate will win.

Following that, enthusiasm will be utilised to keep up with harmony and amicability. At the point when people share a charitable mentality, they will help each other. Thus, the nation will be stronger.

In rundown, enthusiasm is basic to the nation's turn of events. It disposes of childish and horrendous aims, which lessens debasement. Likewise, assuming that the public authority is without defilement, the nation will develop all the more rapidly.

Since its origin, India has had its reasonable portion of patriots. Different nationalists were brought into the world because of the battle for opportunity. These legends have made a few penances for the area to flourish and develop. Their names have stood out forever and are as yet respected with esteem and regard. Rani Lakshmi Bai, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, and Maulana Azad were among India's most prominent patriots.

Rani Lakshmi Bai was a notable nationalist of the country. Her valiance and bravery are as yet discussed. Her name is much of the time utilised corresponding to the 1857 uprising. She ascended against British control and battled for opportunity. She lost her life battling for our country in the combat zone.

One more name related to enthusiasm is Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He was inflexible with regards to liberating India from the chains of British power. He was associated with different freedom fights. Also, he started an unrest for a similar explanation. He submitted his life to this objective and kicked the bucket as a saint for the good of his country.

Maulana Azad was a steady patriot. The principal training pastor of India was a vital figure in India's freedom war. He went to a few urban areas, bringing issues to light of the British's treachery. Through his support, he united individuals and directed India to opportunity.

In this way, when we discuss the freedom battle and enthusiasm, a couple of names effectively come into view, yet today I'd need to zero in on others whose names are less generally known. We hear a tonne about pioneers who held onto the cudgel and conveyed the battle forward, yet in praising significance, we as often as possible disregard the essential, normal, but then complicated, character of humankind. We are continually discussing pioneers, however what characterises a pioneer if not his devotees. A contention that killed thousands, yet we decide to respect a couple.

Patriotism helps in building a country with a better future so that people live in harmony with each other. It does not always mean fighting and being violent, it means showing passion and sacrifice towards the nation. Showcasing the love for the country only on occasions such as Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti is not true patriotism. True patriotism is respecting the country & taking pride while showing love and respect to the country. It also leads to the elimination of selfishness and corruption which will help the country grow and develop faster. The nation does not belong to one person, rather it belongs to all of us so all of us must come together to make our nation the best. Our soldiers stand at the border(s) each and every day to keep this country or us safe.

Paragraph on Patriotism – 200 Words for Classes 6, 7, 8 Students

Patriotism doesn’t mean only fighting and shedding blood, showing true love and respect for the country is also patriotism. In the past, India has had a few glorious freedom fighters who fought India’s freedom and sacrificed their lives to help the country become free and flourish. Some of those freedom fighters and greatest patriots were Maulana Azad, Rani Lakshmi Bai and Bhagat Singh. They lost their lives for the love of their country and a true patriot is worshipped even after their death; they become martyrs. The souls of these true martyrs are respected and become immortal. As Shakespeare says “Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never tastes of death once.”

Other patriots such as Shivaji, Gandhi Ji and Subhash Chandra Bose are respected and remembered today as well because they fought for their nation and were fearless! Our freedom fighters lead movements to bring a change and make an identity for the country. Remembering and honouring their struggle for independence is an important aspect of patriotism. It is because of their struggles and hard work that we are here today, living in our country safely and with respect.

Paragraph on Patriotism – 250 to 300 Words for Classes 9, 10, 11, 12 and Competitive Exams Students

Since these freedom fighters fought so that we could have an identity of our own, we must contribute towards making the society a better place to live in. We can start by implementing good education systems, economic development and just removing the social evils from the society. Equality is an important aspect of patriotism; it includes seeing everyone as equals irrespective of their caste, colour, race and religion. Hence, Voting is very important because it helps the citizens of a nation get better facilities. It can also mean helping those in need such as victims of floods and earthquakes; you can play your part by donating to relief funds to help these people.

Since the youth today have a very opinionated voice, it can be put to very good use by expressing their opinions passionately and speaking up against the evils in society. The youth of a country are the ambassadors of change and they tend to work for the world they wish to live in, so we must respect them and use the power we have to make a change and give back to this nation, which has given everything to us. Our national identity is what drives us to work for change and contribute meaningfully to society. Patriotism in a country like India, which is full of varying views about everything. can be summed up in the word of philosopher Sun Tzu:

“There are not more than five musical notes, yet the combinations of these five give rise to more melodies than can ever be heard.

There are not more than five primary colours, yet in combination they produce more hours than can ever be seen.

There are not more than five cardinal tastes, yet combinations of them yield more flavours than can ever be tasted.”

Patriotism is putting the interest of one’s country first, working for its development and sacrificing for it if need. Many people think that patriotism is all about laying one’s life for his/ her country but it does not necessarily mean that. It means living for the betterment of the country, serving it in every possible way and willing to sacrifice one’s life whenever there is a need.

Many people in the past have served their countries and even laid their lives for it. Many people still continue to serve their country with as much devotion. Indian freedom fighters were filled with the feeling of patriotism. They did not care about themselves and worked selflessly for the nation. Even today, many people are dedicated towards serving the nation in whatever way they can. However, the feeling of patriotism is slowly fading. The youth today does not feel as strongly for his country as people of the earlier generations felt.

The elderly people must make an effort to instil the feeling of patriotism in their children. Institutions such as schools and colleges must also promote the same. The youth of the country must love and respect the country and work towards building it strong.

Patriotism Essay 2 (300 words)

Patriotism is the feeling of love and respect for one’s country. Patriots are known to love their country unconditionally and are proud of it. Every country in the world has its set of patriots – people who are ready to do anything for their country. However, the spirit of patriotism seems to be fading these days owing to the growing competition in every field as well as the changing lifestyle of people.

The Feeling of Patriotism must be Instilled

In the past, particularly during the British reign, many people came forward to instil the feeling of patriotism among their fellow countrymen. Patriots held meetings, gave lectures and used various other means to inspire the people around them. In the same way, a feeling of patriotism must be instilled in the young generation today too. This must be done when they are still young. Schools and colleges must take initiative to instil children with a feeling of love and respect for their country. Many institutions host functions and organize events on 15 th August and 26 th January. Patriotic songs are sung and a feeling of patriotism seems to engulf the entire nation around that time. But is this real patriotism? No! Such an atmosphere must be created in general and not just around these special dates. It is then that such a feeling will be instilled in the heart of every citizen forever.

A nation where the youth loves the country and is driven towards improving its condition socially and economically would certainly grow better.

A true patriot is the one who works hard for the betterment of his country. He contributes his bit towards improving the condition of his country in whatever way he can. A true patriot does not only work towards building his nation but also inspires those around him to do so.

Patriotism Essay 3 (400 words)

The feeling of patriotism means having the feeling of immense love for ones country. There have been a number of patriots in our country in the past and there are many present today. However, the feeling of patriotism among the people of India could especially be seen during the British reign.

Famous Indian Patriots

Here is a look at some of the true patriots during the British reign:

  • Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Bhagat Singh is known to be a true patriot. He was driven towards freeing our country from the clutches of the British government. He participated in various freedom struggles and began a revolution. He was so dedicated towards his mission that he did not think twice before sacrificing his life for his motherland. He proved to be an inspiration for numerous citizens.

  • Subhash Chandra Bose

Subhash Chandra Bose, better known as Netaji, took active part in India’s freedom struggle. He was known for his strong ideologies. Besides being a part of various freedom movements to drive the British out of the country, Bose also promoted Hindu-Muslim unity.

  • Bal Ganga Dhar Tilak

Bal Ganga Dhar Tilak was infused with the feeling of patriotism. His saying, “Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it” showed how determined he was in freeing the country from the tyranny of the British rulers. He condemned the British government for its brutal treatment. He demanded right to self government for the people of India.

  • Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi

His contribution towards India’s freedom struggle is known to all. He led the maximum number of freedom movements against the British. He was a perfect example of “simple living high thinking”. He dreamt of India’s freedom and worked hard towards achieving the same in his own unique way.

  • Sarojni Naidu

Sarojini Naidu, a famous singer of her times, was also a patriot at heart. She participated in the freedom struggle and contributed her bit towards freeing the country from the British rule. She played a vital role in the Civil Disobedience Movement because of which she even got arrested along with other prominent freedom fighters. She was also arrested during the Quit India movement but this did not dither her feeling of patriotism for her country.

The citizens of India must be inspired to serve the country in whatever way they can. The government, schools and other institutions must take initiative to enlighten the spirit of patriotism among the citizens.

Patriotism Essay 4 (500 words)

“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it” said Mark Twain. Patriotism is all about loving and respecting ones country and working towards its betterment. People must join hands with the government and other institutions to work in this direction.

Patriotism is Fading with Time

Patriotism is fading with the passage of time. It is hardly seen in the younger generation these days. This is because people these days have become too engrossed in their own lives. They are also becoming more and more selfish. A selfish person is one who always thinks about himself and keeps his interests above everything and everyone around him. On the other hand, patriotism is all about loving one’s own country selflessly. A person who is too engrossed in himself and gives immense importance to himself and his needs can never be a patriot. The growing competition these days has also contributed a lot to it.

Each individual is busy making money to make his life more and more comfortable and better than those around him. There is hardly any room to think about anything else in such a scenario. Love for the country and serving the country is almost a forgotten concept these days. Instead of working towards the betterment of one’s country and contributing in its development the youth today is migrating to other countries in search of better lifestyle. If the mindset of people had been same around 100 years back, they would have never united and fought for the freedom of the country. They would have only looked for their own selfish motifs in that situation.

True Patriot Vs False Patriot

While many people claimed to be patriots during the British reign few among them were false patriots who took advantage of the situation to further their own selfish motives. Even today there are many people who truly love and respect their country while some only pretend to do so. A true patriot is one who is dedicated towards serving his nation. He puts the interest of his country and countrymen first and is willing to sacrifice everything for the betterment of his country. On the other hand, false patriot is one who claims to love his country and shows that he is a patriot while in public. However, he does so for his own gain and does not actually possess these feelings.

Patriotism Vs Nationalism

The terms nationalism and patriotism are often used interchangeably. However, there is a difference between the two. Patriotism means being proud of one’s nation for its positive points and working towards its betterment. On the other hand, nationalism means being proud of one’s nation regardless of its positive and negative points. While patriotism is good, nationalism is considered irrational and spiteful.

Patriotism is inborn in some while it can be instilled in the others. The feeling of patriotism is required for the betterment and development of a country. It also brings people of a country closer and helps them experience the love and joy of sharing and caring.

Patriotism Essay 5 (600 words)

Patriotism is one of the purest feelings in the world. A patriot feels selflessly for his country. He keeps his country’s interests and well-being above his own. He is ready to sacrifice for his country without thinking twice.

Patriotism is a Virtue Everyone Must Possess

Our country is also referred to as our motherland and we must love it the way we love our mother. Those who feel the same love and devotion for their country as they feel for their mother and family are known to be true patriots. Patriotism is a virtue that every individual must possess. A country full of patriots certainly makes a better place to live compared to the one where people are fighting with each other in the name of religion, caste, creed and other issues. A place where people have collective interests and mission would certainly have lesser conflicts. Here is why everyone must possess the virtue of patriotism:

  • Nation Building

When everyone is dedicated towards building the nation strong in every aspect, there is no way that country wouldn’t grow and develop. Patriots put the nation’s interest above their own and work with devotion for its betterment.

  • Maintaining Peace and Harmony

A good nation is one where peace and harmony is maintained at all times. People have a feeling of brotherhood and help and support each other. The feeling of patriotism is known to promote the feeling of brotherhood among one’s countrymen.

  • Working for a Common Goal

Patriots work for a common goal and that is for the betterment of their country. When everyone is driven towards a common goal or mission there is no way it cannot be achieved.

  • No Selfish Motives

Patriots work selflessly for their country without any individual interest. If everyone possesses the feeling of patriotism and does not think about gratifying his/ her individual interest, there will be benefits certainly to the country.

  • No corruption

If political leaders have a feeling of patriotism, they will work for the country unlike the present scenario where in those in power are busy making money for themselves rather than working for the upliftment of the country. Similarly, if the government officials and other citizens of the country are determined towards serving the nation rather than making quick money or getting quick services for themselves, the level of corruption will fall.

Patriotism Must Not Turn Into Chauvinism

Being patriotic is a great virtue. We must love and respect our country and serve it in whatever way we can. The positive points of possessing feeling of patriotism shared above show how it can help the country prosper and grow. However, some people take this love for their country to the next level. Excess love for one’s country and believing that your country is superior and important is termed as chauvinism. As excess of everything is bad so is excess love for one’s country. Chauvinists’ strong belief in their country’s ideologies and irrational belief of superiority of its own people creates a feeling of hatred for others. This often instigates conflicts and war amid countries thereby disrupting peace and harmony.

There have been several instances in the past wherein chauvinism has resulted in unnecessary conflicts turning into riots. There is a very thin line between patriotism and chauvinism. While patriotism is healthy, chauvinism is fanatic and irrational. People must ensure that their devotion and love towards their country does not turn into chauvinism over the time.

Love for one’s native land is the purest form of love. A person who is ready to sacrifice his own interests for his/ her country deserves a salute. Each country in the world needs more and more people who possess this feeling.
