It features over 1,000 pictures based on sounds that are targeted regularly by speech-language practitioners.

The pictures respond to 22 different sounds for your child to work on, placing the sound at the beginning, middle, or end of words, or all three.

In turn, this helps your child practice the different sound placements in a variety of words.

It’s cute, colorful, and interactive and will keep your child engaged while learning.

Your child can press the flashcard to turn it over, play a game of memory, or read a story containing key sounds.

It also has a record function that provides audio feedback within the game, which is really useful.

The My Talking Tom app wasn’t specifically designed for speech therapy.

Still, it’s our go-to app for getting reluctant talkers talking.

The game features a cat that repeats everything you say back to you in a funny voice, and children love it.

It works really well for motivating them to practice their sounds and words.

You can challenge them to see how many times they can get the cat to say its “p” or “sh” sound correctly.

As a reward, they can then access the game’s other features, which include feeding, dressing, and petting him.

Plus, it has plenty of mini-games built within, including puzzles, memory games, and football goal-shoot.

The free version does contain a lot of ads, but you have the option to subscribe monthly for unlimited ad-free play.

Starfall ABCs is by the Starfall Education Foundation, a publicly funded non-profit organization.

This app is an excellent tool for helping your child learn the alphabet and practice their sounds.

Starfall’s ABCs app is a solid, teacher-approved tool designed to help children learn their ABCs.

The app is colorful and fun, teaching children lower and uppercase letters and showing them how they sound.

The app also teaches children about vowels, counting, colors, and more.

Some of the content is only available if you donate Starfall.

And if you choose to, it’s nice to see your money going to a non-profit organization.

Some parents find that they don’t have to donate, as there is plenty of free content they can access.

All of these will help your child learn the alphabet and widen their vocabulary.

Within the free content, your child will have the opportunity to see, hear, and interact with each letter, in context with words and sentences.

The learning is fun and appealing to children, primarily due to the colorful Splingo alien character the game is centered around.

Children are given instructions they must follow to complete tasks and progress through the game.

It is designed in a way that users can play it in multiple difficulty levels, so you can set it to your child’s current ability.

There is also an option to save their progress.

Unfortunately, this game is only available on iOS devices (not Android), which means you need an iPhone or iPad to play it.

For those that do have an Apple device, there is a lot of great content on this app.

It is also suitable for older kids with advanced skills.

This app has been around for a few years, and it consistently rates very highly with parents.

With improving technology and the growth of telemedicine , speech-language pathologists can now offer speech therapy services online. In fact, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) considers online speech therapy appropriate and effective for many services speech-language pathologists provide [1] Telepractice . Online speech therapy may offer more flexibility than in-person services, and it increases access to speech therapists for people who aren’t able to travel to a provider’s location. You can find online speech therapy on several different platforms, but before you choose a service, it’s important to know what to look for to ensure it meets your needs.

We asked experts what to look for in an online speech therapy provider and highlighted platforms that meet their criteria, have options for those with and without insurance and offer a variety of specialists and services. Read on to learn more about how speech therapy works online and providers to consider.

Speech therapy is a type of therapy provided by a licensed professional, typically a speech-language pathologist. Speech therapy helps people learn, improve or regain language or swallow function, as well as voice and cognitive communication skills. There are lots of reasons someone might need speech therapy, and therapists serve all ages, from early childhood to older adults.

Speech therapy can:

• Treat language and speech disorders
• Help with social communications
• Address cognitive issues such as memory, attention and understanding
• Improve eating and swallowing problems
• Train your voice in different ways

A speech therapist may have their own private practice, or they may work in a school, hospital, rehabilitation facility or university. Since there’s a wide range of reasons people seek speech therapy, speech-language pathologists often specialize in working with a specific population. For example, they may focus on children with autism or adults recovering from a stroke.

Children may be recommended for speech therapy if they have a language disorder that affects their ability to learn to speak, name things or put together sentences, or a speech disorder that affects how they pronounce words.

Adults may be referred to speech therapy to recover speech and language skills as well as improve cognitive function including memory and attention after a brain injury, like a concussion or a stroke, or after a diagnosis that can impact speech or swallowing, like Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or dementia. An adult might also look for a speech therapist to help with voice training if they use their voice for their career, like an actor, singer or public speaker. Transgender adults may work with a speech therapist for voice training while they’re in transition.

Before technology advances, a speech therapist typically treated clients in person. Now, many speech therapists offer services online via telecommunication. Telepractice services should offer the same quality as in-person services and be held to ASHA’s standards for ethical practices, according to the organization.

Instead of visiting an office or going to a facility, you’ll work with a speech therapist over a live video session, which is considered synchronous care.

Other types of telepractice include asynchronous care—which is when images, audio, clips or data is sent between a patient and therapist for viewing and evaluation at a later time—and hybrid care, which combines different types of care and could be a mix of synchronous care, asynchronous care, remote monitoring with wearable devices and apps or in-person care.

There are several different platforms that host online speech therapy services and connect speech therapists with people who need them.

Working together online can have benefits for you and the speech therapist. “Location does not dictate therapy options any longer,” says Tara Roehl, a speech-language pathologist who operates a private telepractice clinic in Colorado.

If you need a speech therapist who specializes in a certain type of therapy or has expertise working with certain conditions, you’re not limited to those in your area. The wider online pool makes it more likely for people to get the specialized help they need.

Eliminating travel also makes it easier to attend regular sessions, especially for those with mobility and transportation issues. Jessie L. Ginsburg, a speech-language pathologist and CEO of Pediatric Therapy Playhouse in Los Angeles, says she sees higher attendance rates for online therapy in her clinic, and parents are more likely to sit next to their child during online sessions and participate.

Research suggests it’s effective, too. Online practice is still relatively new in the world of speech therapy, but there is promising research. A 2020 systematic review in Perspectives examined literature on adult telepractice services from 2014 to 2019, concluding that there’s evidence to support continuing to use speech therapy telepractice for adults, but more research is needed on its effectiveness [2] Weidner K, Lowman J. “In some of the research that I’ve done, we showed that not only did telemedicine increase access to therapy, but the outcomes in cognitive rehabilitation were equal to if not slightly better than in-person outcomes,” says Lindsay R. James Riegler, Ph.D., a research speech-language pathologist and innovation specialist at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center.

Additionally, experts note many speech therapists who provide in-person care already utilize apps and other online programs to supplement their sessions, making the transition from in-person care to telecare more seamless.

There are limitations to what online therapy can do, and telepractice can’t replace some in-person evaluations and treatment sessions, states the ASHA.

Some therapy approaches, such as touch cues (which are used in speech therapy to show correct placement to produce certain sounds), have to be done in person, notes Ginsburg. “We might use touch cues externally on the face or lips, such as touching a finger to the lips to cue a child for the ‘m’ sound,” she explains. A therapist may also need to be physically present to observe certain facial or throat movements.

If you struggle with concentrating and engaging with a screen, online speech therapy could be more challenging. The same applies if you aren’t tech savvy and have issues using online tools. Other barriers to virtual appointments include patients with audiovisual deficits as well as those with limited internet access, in which case in-person sessions may be more beneficial.

Audio quality can also be an issue, says Evan Kennedy, a speech-language pathologist at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. “In my work with professional singers, small differences in tone quality really matter.”

Experts advise evaluating both the service or program and the speech therapist you’ll work with through the platform.

Look at the therapist’s licenses and whether or not the platform is HIPAA compliant, advises Aaron Rothbart, a speech-language pathologist and current doctoral student at the University of Oregon.

There’s no universal speech-language pathologist license, so professionals get licensed in the state where they practice. The ASHA tracks state guidelines, many of which require speech-language pathologists to be licensed in the state where they practice, which means if they’re providing services to a client in another state, they must be licensed in that state as well.

If the provider isn’t licensed in the state where they’re providing services, an insurance company isn’t going to reimburse them, according to Riegler.

In addition to their licenses, consider what their focus is in terms of treatment as well as their patient population.

Parents looking for speech therapy services for their children should find the right therapist who has expertise in the area they need, rather than searching for the right company, advises Ginsburg. The same goes for adults.

“It is completely acceptable and expected to interview your therapist to see if it is a good fit for you,” says Roehl. She recommends asking:

• How long have you been doing telepractice?
• What training do you have in telepractice?
• What training do you have that’s relevant for my speech therapy goals?
• What can I expect to experience in a typical session?

• Great Speech has over 50 highly specialized therapists in a variety of areas, according to the company. Each has a master’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology. The platform is also HIPAA compliant and works with an array of insurance providers.
• Expressable has services for adults and children, and its therapists all hold a master’s degree or higher, according to the company. It also works with insurance providers, health savings accounts and flexible savings accounts and allows for private payment options.

Experts note that before selecting a speech therapist, it’s important to work with your physician. They can help refer you to a speech therapist, and often also work with speech therapists to ensure optimal medical management as well—for example, prescribing medication if needed and being aware of certain complications that may arise (like those associated with swallowing issues).

Online speech therapy might not be right for every person or situation, but “when it is provided by an experienced and well-trained speech-language pathologist, it can be, and is expected to be, equal to or better than in-person services,” says Roehl.

Speech-language pathologists are often searching for the best free apps for speech therapy to use during sessions! SLPs are often looking for a dedicated speech therapy app to use when targeting a specific skill with a preschool or elementary student. There are a ton of apps available in the apple store that a school-based slp could use to target a variety of objectives. Though most recommendations will be for preschoolers, some apps may be appropriate for older children as well. If you are looking for the best apps with fun games or an effective speech app to help build communication skills, check out this comprehensive list!

How To Find Speech Therapy Apps

Looking for educational apps to use during your speech therapy session? 

You can always take a look around by heading to the App Store and searching under the “Education” category. This list provides suggestions for apps that can be used for positive reinforcement, speech development, language, and phonological awareness.

Speech pathologists can also download or purchase apps on Google Play. To access Google Play, you can go into your “waffle” drop-down menu. That’s the best way to access all of the Google apps. 

Why SLPs Might Use Apps in Speech Therapy

I will be honest, I am really pretty careful about screen time. This applies both for my own children and the children I see in speech therapy. Face-to-face interactions are so important! 

​There are situations, however, when speech therapy apps might be used to really engage and motivate students! 

Another positive is that speech therapy apps are often very customizable. So, if an SLP needs to target something very specific, the settings in the app often allow for that. 

Apps, when used purposefully and appropriately, can also allow SLPs to “switch things up” in speech therapy, and allow for easy data collection.

It might be helpful to be prepared with a visual or  visual schedule  when it is time to transition from the app to a different activity. 

The 10 Best Apps for Speech Therapy Preschool FREE

Need a great app to try in therapy today? This list suggests the best speech therapy apps that are FREE (or offer a free trial) that a speech therapist might use during therapy sessions. Many of these apps do have paid versions, but checking out the free versions will allow a certified speech-language pathologist to see if an individual app might meet a specific child’s needs.

Motivators and Games

• Peekaboo Barn Lite : Check out this free app! Your student listens to sounds that are coming from inside the barn. Tap the barn to find out which animal is making that sound! This is a free version of the paid app, Peekaboo Barn. This app would be a great motivator! 
• Baby Games : This is a free app that is designed for younger children. It includes 15 games, and a lot of those games have sorting activities. For example, in the Arctic game, children sort items by size while they help penguins build houses.
• Pepi Tree Lite : There are 3 different levels of play to this educational game, which feature animal friends that live in trees, such as owls and squirrels. 
• The Toca Boca Apps are always a hit for simple motivators and teaching language skills. Check out  Toca Kitchen Monsters ! Your student can use a variety of ingredients to cook food for two monsters. Sometimes the monsters won’t like the food they’ve cooked- for example, if it’s been overseasoned. This would provide a great opportunity for targeting  wh-questions .

Best Apps for Speech Therapy preschool free (Articulation and Language)

• My PlayHome Lite   is a sample of the paid app, My PlayHome. Basically, this app is like playing with a virtual dollhouse. This app could be really great for language building activities, such as answering questions, describing, and labeling actions and objects. 
• A speech language pathologist can try out  Speech Blubs  using a 7-day free trial. After that, there are monthly vs yearly subscription options. Speech Blubs is a voice-controlled speech therapy app that is perfect for young children. 
• Word Vault  is one of my favorite free speech therapy apps! This is a good app for targeting a variety of skills. If your student has a speech delay, there are word lists for articulation and phonology. Articulation targets are provided at the word, phrase, and sentence level, and there are also stories included. This is also a language therapy app, and targets adjectives, adverbs, analogies, categories, conjunctions, and more. If you choose to purchase the full version, you would be able to track data for multiple clients, add words, pictures, and audio to any list, and create custom lists, among other features. This app is great for targeting articulation and language goals.
• Looking for more articulation apps?  Articulation Station , created by Little Bee Speech, is another option. This provides 20 target words for the included speech sounds, as well as an interactive game (a matching game). The paid version is Articulation Station Pro and offers greater access to speech sounds, as well as stories, flashcards, and stories. 
• Phonemic Awareness Bubbles  is a free app that helps children identify and manipulate phonemes. 
• Who, What, and Where Lite  is a great free app to target wh questions! This app was developed by a speech-language pathologist, so you know it’ll be appropriate to use during your therapy session.  

The 10 Best Apps for Speech Therapy Preschool PAID

There are some really great PAID apps to use in speech therapy as well. 

***Please note, that while I do list a few communication apps, it is really important to evaluate and see what system works best with a specific child. Therefore, I am listing two communication apps I am pretty familiar with, but please know this is not an extensive list, and there are many more options available! 

Best Apps for Speech Therapy: Language

• Working with a student with an expressive and receptive language disorder?  Splingo  is a relatively inexpensive option (when I checked, the paid version was $1.99). This app was developed by a speech-language pathologist. It is intended to be a comprehensive app that focuses on many areas of language development, including following directions, pronouns, actions (verbs), early words development, past tense, categories, and describing.
• Syntax Workout App  is a paid app that addresses a variety of grammatical concepts with an interactive bowling theme! Speech language therapists will love that it targets skills such as third person singular, subjective pronouns, objective pronouns, possessive pronouns, and more. Oh, and by the way.  Don’t forget to check out this article about how I teach sentence structure in speech therapy .
• Are you targeting auditory processing of verbal directions? Check out  Auditory Workout . You could use this app with children who have auditory processing disorders, receptive language disorders, or other related disorders. Okay, and I know this post is about preschool, but…you’ll be able to use this app with older students, too. This basketball-themed app is a great way to target following directions.   I also love using this resource to target following complex directions . 
• Check out the  Pogg  interactive app! This is a great app for children working on labeling actions (verbs). It is easy to pair with a communication device or communication board. 
• Virtual Speech Center created  Prepositions Journey . I really love how this app lets you target so many basic spatial concept vocabulary words! 

Communication Apps

• Lamp Words for Life  is a communication app that is based on motor learning principles. Speech-language pathologists might also wish to take  LAMP trainings . 
• TD Snap   is another communication app that speech therapists might wish to check out! The TD Snap Motor Plan is a new feature at the time I am writing this article. TD Snap also offers a symbol-supported “Core First” page.

Articulation and Apraxia Apps

• Do you need an apraxia therapy app? Speech-language pathologists might wish to check out  SpeechStickers . This is a really fun interactive app for young children. It targets early consonant sounds and vowel sounds in CV and VC combinations. Also, speech therapists might wish to check out this blost post about  how to do a childhood apraxia of speech evaluation .
• Speech Tutor app  is definitely one to check out. The pro version contains articulation screeners, articulation decks, and articulation videos. The video clips are what make this app so unique! There are front, side, and palate views to really help your student understand how to position the articulators to produce a speech sound.  
• Working with a phonology student? Check out The Phonological Processes App . Target a variety of phonological processes using single words or minimal pairs . Processes targeted include affrication, deaffrication, cluster reduction, final consonant deletion, and more!

It’s not great

My son didn't engage with the app. It was just drills of words. I wish the audio was better and I would've liked to see more diversity in the actors. One of the actors seemed to have speech difficulties himself and I am not really enthused about getting my son to mimic him. Unfortunately, I would not recommend. In contrast to another app, this app did excel in a feature where it gave the user a path to learning words. Note* I did not use the app beyond the free trial. Your results may vary.

I can’t thank you enough

My son has 2nd level autism, and he HAD speech delay. Why I am writing HAD, because he had it until I found this incredible application. My husband, me, his speech therapist - everybody was trying to make him to say at least mom and dad, but no success. When I downloaded this app I thought at least he will play games. After ONE WEEK I saw how my son is imitating lip movements of the kids from the screen, but still no sound and it already was a miracle for us at least he tries to imitate. After 2 WEEKS he said his first words MOM,MOM,MOM, then DAD,DAD,DAD. OMG my husband And I were in tears. Because psychologist said he may never speAk, and now after 6 months he is putting 2-3 words together, sometimes making short sentences. For someone else it may seem pretty normal for a kid at his 32 months to say these words, but for a mom with a kid with autism its a miracle. Thank you so much for this application.

really good for speech boost

I cannot express how excited I am to tell you about my experience with Otsimo Speech Therapy. This is by far the best speech app for children I have tried so far. Even if your kid doesn’t have any speech problem it's such a fun way to learn new words and improve articulation and I cannot recommend this enough! There are no articles about Otsimo that don't rave about it and rightly so. My daughter is very engaged and confident now, getting better at her speech and having fewer mistakes. The Best Speech Therapy App That I Use (almost) Every Day

If you have an iPad or tablet that you get to use in your practice, there are some amazing apps that you absolutely want to have. These are hands down some of the best apps for speech and language therapy.

Whether in-person or online, these are apps that I use every day to engage my students and facilitate speech and language goals.

Enter The Maverick Super Food Bundle.

These simple apps simulate cooking, and students go crazy for them.

My favorite is “More Cookies” because of how easily I can use it to create a themed or seasonal activity. My students especially love the C upcakeroo! App but More Cakes !, More Popcorn and More Donuts are also popular.

Before I show you more about how they work, let me tell you: I don’t spend personal money on work stuff. It is a rule I set for myself years ago when I worked as a teacher. But if I my employer couldn’t/wouldn’t buy these apps for me, I’d pony up the few dollars and purchase them out of pocket.

They are totally worth it.

Why I Love These Apps

• Good value: for a few dollars, you get access to multiple apps in the bundle
• Easy to use: I loathe apps that require tedious set-up. As soon as you click into these apps, they’re ready to go.
• Re-usable: I use these apps weekly, and clients don’t seem to get tired of them!
• Simple & Effective: The apps focus on what you need – no fluff!
• Intuitive : My youngest clients (Pre-K age) figure out these apps quickly without much assistance
• Flexibility: The apps are useful for a variety of speech and language targets
• Engaging: I don’t have to spend much time building interest or engagement, students love these apps right from the get-go
• Age range : I’ve used these apps regularly with PreK students up to middle school age.

How They Work

I’ll explain the More cookies app, since it is my favorite. In my experience, most of them work about the same. You can also watch the video below to get an idea of how it works. The app is intuitive and easy to use. It also has simple action-oriented instructions on the screen at every step.

In brief, the apps follow the basic steps of cooking: checking a recipe, combining ingredients, cooking, and eating! Through these simple steps, there are endless opportunities to work on a variety of speech and language targets from basic to advanced.

Getting Started

When you open the app, you’re presented with a simple choice between “pre-made” cookie dough or a recipe from scratch. Just like in real-life, I use the from-scratch-recipe…unless I’m in a hurry.

After you select your option, it is time to pick a recipe or what kind of cookie you want. There are lots of options including sugar cookies, chocolate chip, and a zillion others! I usually limit my students to 2-3 options, but depending on their language targets you can easily spend more time here.

The Fun Starts

The next screen is where the cooking fun happens. Students drag the ingredients one-by-one into the bowl. For my younger students, I like to incorporate sound play and fun gestures here. For example, I might ask them to make a gurgling-burbling noise as they pour a liquid, or I might ask them to show me a “chop” with their hand as they chop some nuts to go into the cookies.  Finally, students mix the ingredients together in the bowl by swirling their finger.

With some of the recipes, you can roll out the dough and use cookie cutters for shapes. There are many options with categories including holidays, numbers, letters, animals, seasons, and more. This makes it super easy to customize based on season or lesson focus. Just read a book about spring? Make flowers and bees. Spirit day? Make a cookie shaped like your school mascot.

After cutting out the shapes, students drag them to the pan and put them in the oven. When they’re finished cooking, the best part begins – the decorating!

For my younger students, I will usually model the decorating process. Of course, I describe everything I’m doing out loud while using the students’ targets. Clients love getting to show off their creativity and personality in their cookie decoration.

Pro Tip: You can ask your client to make a cookie for someone special (Parent, friend, teacher, etc) and write their name on it (in delicious digital frosting). Then, within the app you can email that person a picture of it! Easy way to earn some brownie…erm… cookie…points? Pardon the attempted pun.

Nom nom nom! Eat it!

After you’ve cooked all of your cookies, cakes, or popcorn you get to eat it! The app serves the food on a little plate, and as you click the food item, it will take bite size chunks out of it. This is a great moment to practice some turn-taking, sharing, or even more sound play!

My speech and language therapy clients have enjoyed these apps so much, I find myself using them as a reinforcer or reward during sessions.

Pro tip: A reinforcer shouldn’t always come at the end of the session. Choosing a reinforcement schedule should be based on your goal for the client and how often and consistently they need to respond. From the Bride, Cherry… My husband and I we decided to have our summer wedding in Moscow because the city is where his roots are. As we knew we were going to have the other wedding ceremony in China, we wanted our Moscow one to be very personal and intimate. We’ve known each other since we were fourteen, together with many of our friends whom we’ve also known for a decade.

I didn’t want to walk down the aisle twice so the plausibility of my request quickly came into discussion. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. My girls could just tell whenever I needed a hand or maybe they were just so used to my clumsiness. Who knows 😂

We all love our photographer Julia! She’s so talented and her style is so unique. Our beloved host Alex is exceptional who made everyone laugh and cry. It was truly a blessing to have so many kind and beautiful souls on our big day. Thank you all!

From Sonya Khegay … It was the last day of April and still very cold in the morning. The weather forecast wasn’t pleasing and no one expected that the sun would come out, but miracles happen and light rain gave way to the warm rays.

I love how all the details went together, you could feel the harmony in everything throughout the entire wedding day from the morning until the fireworks.

A gentle look of the bride, elegant but so airy and unique decor, the fresh and light atmosphere of early spring and, of course, true happiness in the eyes. My heart becomes so warm from these memories, it is always a pleasure to see the birth of a new family of two loving hearts.

You really can’t go wrong with simple: a beautiful Bride , perfectly pretty petals , loved ones all around. But add in an amazing firework show  to cap off the night and simple just became downright extraordinary. Captured by Lena Elisseva , with assistance by  Katya Butenko , this rustic Russian celebration is simply fantastic. From Lena Eliseeva Photo …  This cozy and warm summer wedding of gorgeous Natalia and Anton was in the middle of June. The young couple decided to organize their wedding themselves, and the day was very personal and touching. I am absolutely in love with rustic outdoor weddings, and this one is my favourite because of the free and easy atmosphere.

All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer.

At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands.

The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day.

From Lena Kozhina … When we met with the couple for the first time, we immediately paid attention to Dima’s behavior towards Julia. There was a feeling of tenderness and awe, and we immediately wanted to recreate this atmosphere of love, care and warmth on their Big Day.

Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods. The name of the site is Fox Lodge and peach-orange color, as one of the Bride’s favorites, set the tone for the whole design – from the invitations, in which we used images of fox cubs to elements of serving guest tables and other decorative elements with the corresponding bright accents.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
