2nd Quarter PowerPoint Presentations Compilation | DepEd Club Files

In this article, you will find our compiled 2nd Quarter Powerpoint Presentations. We aim to complete all the K-12 Powerpoint Presentations to make them available to our fellow teachers and help them complete their resources.

We at DepEd Teachers Club are always grateful to all our File Authors and File Contributors. Credit goes to all of them. Let us all give them thanks and show our support for all their works. We are also thankful for all our File Editors, Sharers, Tech Volunteers and fellow Teachers for helping us and making this kind of service possible.

How to Prepare and Present Concepts in a Lesson

Instead than being given the steps to complete a task, as is the case with procedural learning, students acquire new abilities when they are demonstrated or shown how to do something. The benefit of conceptual learning over procedural learning is that once a concept is understood, it may be applied to real life situations, as opposed to a sequence of instructions, which may not apply exactly in another situation and are more likely to be overlooked. Teachers must explain to students that comprehending the topic is more crucial than remembering a list of guidelines or the processes to complete a task.

PowerPoint presentation is one kind of lesson presentation. Topics can be developed during lesson planning in a way that helps students comprehend unfamiliar topics. When creating and presenting concepts using PowerPoint presentations, teachers can introduce what they will be learning and then review what they have already learned. Design, Presentation, and Follow-up are the steps to an efficient thought development presentation during a class.

Idea Design. Include a setting in which the topic might be suitable before teachers begin teaching new information. Teachers choose which historical context is important for illustrating the idea they want to convey. Establish a transition to the concept presentation after clearly stating the problem or task, using analogies when appropriate, citing examples of the activity or task, outlining a potential solution, and explaining why.

Presentation. Presenting a concept can be done in a number of different ways. Restate the topic or task using analogies and illustrations, and provide pertinent contextual or background information in the class presentation to further clarify it. Students must practice the new information by completing a hands-on activity when teachers have finished teaching it to them.

Concept Follow-Up: To wrap up the fresh information offered in the PowerPoint presentation, the concept must be summarized. Teachers must be careful to facilitate a seamless transition from one topic to another by connecting where necessary, especially if the concept just presented is utilized to develop the subsequent concept. This enables students to recognize the connections between various ideas.

Grade 5 Science Unit 1: Weatherwise

What is the Atmosphere? The air that surrounds the Earth. Characteristics of Air • Air has no shape or color • You cannot smell or taste air • Air takes up space • Air has mass • Air exerts pressure

Layers of the Atmosphere TROPOSPHERE: Surface of Earth to 16km. All weather happens here. STRATOSPHERE: 16-50 km above Earth’s surface. No weather here. Airplanes fly here. MESOSPHERE: 50-80 km above Earth’s surface. Meteors burn up here. THERMOSPHERE: 200-500 km above Earth’s surface. Satellites, Space Station are here.

Layers of the Atmosphere

What is Air Pressure? It is the force with which air pushes against the earth’s surface. Why does air exert pressure? Air has mass. That means it puts pressure on things around it. It will press in (down). If this is the case, why doesn’t the air around us crush us? Because there is air inside of us and it is pushing back against the air outside of us.

The Sun: • How does the sun affect: • people? • the earth? • the weather • the atmosphere? HEAT: The sun heats up the earth’s atmosphere. Cloud cover helps keep that heat in. LIGHT: Light from the sun passes through the atmosphere and provides light for people and plants. RADIATION: the earth’s atmosphere shields the earth from the sun’s harmful radiation. However…

… (UV) Ultraviolet rays are invisible, high energy rays from the sun that can damage eyes, cause skin cancer, and contribute to global warming. Compared to past decades, why do we need to be more careful today about UV rays? How are we more careful? Pollution (CFCs) is depleting the Ozone Layer (a layer of gas in the stratosphere that blocks dangerous UV rays from reaching the earth’s surface).

Clouds: Water (a liquid) evaporates, changes into water vapour (a gas) that rises into the atmosphere. There, it cools, condenses into tiny water droplets, and forms clouds. There are 3 main types of clouds: Cirrus Latin word for “tuft or curl of hair” Cumulus Latin word for “heap or pile” 3. Stratus Latin word for “spread out”

CIRRUS CLOUDS: • These clouds look thin and • feathery. • They are so high up that they • are made up of bits of ice. • They usually mean pleasant • weather is going to change.

CUMULUS CLOUDS: • These are big and fluffy • clouds that look like cotton. • Flat bottoms, low to the • ground, and tall, puffy tops. • May indicate the coming • of rain.

STRATUS CLOUDS: • These clouds look flat and thin, • like blankets covering the sky. • “Overcast”… may lead to • drizzle and fog. • In morning, precedes storm. • In afternoon, follows storm.

What do clouds do for the Earth? • Like a coat or blanket, clouds protect earth from • the cold “outside”. • They also prevent earth’s heat from escaping. • Which night do you think is colder - a clear, starry night, or a cloudy night? Why? • A clear night will be colder because there is no “cover” (clouds) over the earth to keep it warm.

The Water Cycle

The Water Cycle • EVAPORATION: Heat from the sun evaporates water from oceans, lakes, trees, etc. • CONDENSATION: The rising water vapor cools, turns to water droplets and comes into contact with dust particles in the air to form clouds. • PRECIPITATION: When the clouds become too full of water droplets, rain, sleet or snow occurs. • This cycle repeats, making “the water cycle”.

Fog! 1 • Fog is nothing more than a cloud on the ground. • When warm air flows over cool land, water vapor condenses into tiny droplets. This is FOG. • 3 Types: • Ground Fog: 100 m thick • Valley Fog: 500 m thick • Ice Fog: contains ice particles 2 3

Wind The sun heats the earth's surface unevenly. This creates air masses of different temperatures. Warm air is lighter than cold air. Cold air masses push under hot air masses, causing them to rise. This movement of air is called WIND.

WIND DIRECTION: Winds are named for the direction from which they blow. For example (in NL): A northeasterly wind does not blow TO the north east. It blows FROM the north east. It has a cooling effect. A southwesterly wind blows FROM the south west. It has a warming effect.

Wind Chill Factor A measure of how cold air feels to the skin. The actual temperature + the chilling effect of the wind.

When air masses have differences in air temperature and air pressure, storms can form. STORMS

Thunder & Lightning • Cumulonimbus clouds are also called “storm clouds”. They are dark grey and billow up to 16 km high. • They cause high wind, lightning and thunder. • See bottom of pp. 24-25 to see how lightning and thunder occur. • Lightning is hot (24 000 ̊C) and fast (120 000 km/h).

Tornadoes • A tube of air that hangs from the thunderstorm like an elephant’s trunk. • Occurs when a strong, fast column • of warm air starts spinning. • Acts like a vacuum cleaner, sucking in air at the bottom and whirling it upwards, picking up anything in its path!

Did you know? • Tornadoes can lift railway cars, destroy houses, and ruin whole towns… in seconds! • Some tornadoes have winds as fast as 500 kmh. • No one knows why tornadoes form in some storms and not others. • There are nearly 100 tornadoes in Canada each year.

Hurricanes, Typhoons, Cyclones: Violent, cyclonic storms that form in tropical waters and eventually make landfall, causing much destruction. They are different only in where they happen): Hurricane: Atlantic / Northeast Pacific Typhoon: Northwest Pacific Cyclone: South Pacific / Indian Ocean See map, next slide…

DID YOU KNOW ? • The low pressure center of these storms is called the “eye of the storm” • These storms have a powerful cyclonic (circular) wind motion. In the Northern Hemisphere the winds go counterclockwise, and in the Southern Hemisphere, clockwise.

Grade 5 Science Module: Estuaries and Intertidal Zones

This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.

Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.

Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check your learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.

Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises and tests. And read the instructions carefully before performing each task.

If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.

Estuaries and intertidal zones supply essential foods for all living things. The living or biotic factors like plants, animals, and microorganisms affect the ecosystem that includes coral reefs, salt marshes, mudflats, rocky shores, and mangrove forests.

This module will help you understand better how organisms interact with one other to survive in intertidal zones and estuaries.

The module is divided into two lessons, namely:

  • Lesson 1: Interactions among living things and non-living things in estuaries
  • Lesson 2: Interactions among living things and non-living things in intertidal zones

At the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • identify the biotic and abiotic components in estuaries;
  • identify the biotic and abiotic components in intertidal zones;
  • explain how these components interact with each other for the survival of organisms in estuarine and intertidal zone ecosystems.

DepEd Statement on the Demand to Stop All On-going Class Observations

The Department of Education (DepEd) recognizes that teachers play a crucial role in upgrading the quality of teaching and learning process. It is in this regard that improving their performance through different parameters is vital in achieving quality education.

The classroom observation mandated in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers – Results-Based Performance Management System (PPST-RPMS) has become more objective and standardized, and is used for mentoring, coaching, performance review and evaluation which supports the teachers’ on-going professional development. It has pre-determined indicators that have been agreed upon by the teachers themselves and the observers, ensuring the teachers’ preparedness as they know exactly what to prepare and what teaching behaviors are expected from them in the observation.

It is also worthy to note that the classroom observation raters are the Head Teacher, Master Teacher, and principal. Observations at the Schools Division Office (SDO) level shall not be given direct weight in the performance review of a teacher.

Teachers who attended the recent series of orientations and trainings on RPMS conducted by DepEd, through its Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development (BHROD), in partnership with the Philippine National Research Center for Teacher Quality, see the PPST as a simplified way to meet the basic needs of teachers for professional growth and a structured tool to measure teachers’ performance fairly and squarely.

Teacher John Paul, Master Teacher I in Tarlac attested, “Banking on teacher quality is an overwhelming work but on a positive and rewarding continuum. In keeping with improving teacher quality is the need to upgrade assessment tools for teachers.”
