10 Resume Profile Examples (And How to Write Yours)

Getty Images

Imagine you've got everything covered in your resume : You listed your past experiences, included keywords from the job description, and pared it down to design elements an applicant tracking system (ATS) can parse. Now it’s an accurate representation of your professional qualifications—but you still can’t shake the feeling that who you are as a person is getting a bit lost. That’s where a resume profile comes in.

Adding this section to your resume is a good way to show more of your personality while still being professional. Curious? Read on to find out exactly what a resume profile is, and how to write yours—including examples.

What is a resume profile?

A resume profile is a few concise sentences or bullet points that can be placed at the top of your resume (below the header). It “describes who you are as a professional,” says Muse career coach Yolanda Owens , founder of CareerSensei and who also worked as a college corporate recruiter for more than 20 years.

Career professionals don’t all agree on the exact contents of a resume profile, or even on whether it’s different from a resume summary . So you have a bit of flexibility in how you think about yours and what you include in it.

For example, you might think of a resume profile as a way to “tell the reader who you are, what you do, and what you’re looking for,” so that you can grab their attention and “quickly showcase your accomplishments,” says Muse career coach and former recruiter Jennifer Smith , founder of Flourish Careers .

Or you might approach your resume profile like Owens does, as the equivalent to “a dating profile that describes how you see yourself at work, and the type of work environment that makes you feel productive and purposeful.”

What’s the difference between a resume summary and a profile?

While some career coaches may use the terms resume summary and resume profile interchangeably, others treat them differently.

The first is a quick synopsis of the relevant experiences and skills you bring to a role. The latter can do the same, but it can also focus on your traits and achievements, your story as a professional, and your desires for your next role.

At this point, you might be wondering: If a resume profile includes what you’re looking for in your next role , how is it different from a resume objective ? Some people say that resume objectives are outdated at best and a waste of space at worst. If that’s true, why is a resume profile acceptable?

The difference lies in “the additional context that’s included in the profile,” says Smith. A traditional objective merely states what you’re looking for and maybe a vague reason why. But “the profile goes deeper into who you are and what you do” in addition to what you’re looking for next, connecting your past and present to your future.

Is a resume profile necessary? Who should use it?

Resume profiles can be advantageous for all job seekers, Smith says, especially for those “who are changing either their role or industry.” If you’re a career changer , a strong, explicit resume profile will give you space to tell the reader right up front that, no, you didn’t apply to this job by mistake—this is the next step in your career and here’s why.

Resume profiles are also particularly useful for entry-level job seekers who may need to tie their education and other experiences together more explicitly. If a candidate is writing an entry-level resume , Owens suggests that they “use the profile section to explain what they’re looking for in terms of challenges and learning, and the skills they possess that could potentially add value.”

What to include in a resume profile

Think about what you’d want the person reading your resume to know first. Is it something about your qualifications or your biggest accomplishment? Is it how well you work with others or what your personality adds to a team? This is what should go into your resume profile. You have a few sentences (or bullets) to work with, so don’t restrict yourself to highlighting just one thing.

Here are a few types of information that you can include in a resume profile, according to our coaches:

  • Relevant skills and experiences
  • Relevant achievements and accomplishments
  • Years of experience
  • Strengths as a professional (both soft and hard skills )
  • Signature traits related to the job
  • Personal traits that contribute to your work
  • Qualities you’re looking for in your next role, team, or company
  • Willingness to relocate (if you’re applying to a job not near the location listed on your resume)

What are recruiters looking for in a resume profile?

Don’t underestimate the power of a good first impression to get someone to keep reading the rest of your resume with interest. “The resume profile has an ability to quickly convince a recruiter that the person is a strong, qualified candidate,” says recruiter and Muse career coach Steven Davis , founder and CEO of Renaissance Solutions .

But recruiting isn’t just about making sure candidates have the right skills, Owens says. Recruiters also need to get a feel for whether the team and work environment will be a good match for the candidate long term.

Candidates’ skills and experiences should be well represented throughout their resumes, so as a recruiter, Owens most often “looked at the profile as a way to get a sense of their work persona and gauge environment fit for the role.”

How to write a profile for a resume : 5 steps

Once you know what recruiters and hiring managers are looking for in your resume profile and what you’d like to portray, you can follow these tips as you write your own:

1. Keep it concise

Your resume profile should be no more than four sentences or bullet points, and should not have more than 500 characters. Remember recruiters read dozens of resumes daily, so you don't want yours to be unnecessarily long and tiring.

2. Find the format the suits you best

Decide if you want to use either bullet points or paragraph form. Your resume profile can be written as bullet points, but keep in mind that bullet points often take up more space than a paragraph. “To preserve real estate on the resume and attempt to keep it to one to two pages , I always recommend using paragraph format,” Owens says.

3. Consider the position you're applying for

Tailor your profile to the job, but not so much that it’s not true to who you are. If your resume profile is closer to a summary that highlights your key qualifications and accomplishments as they relate to a given job, you should be tailoring it very carefully for each application and incorporating keywords from the job description.

However, if your resume profile is more of a personal (but still professionally appropriate) description of yourself, Owens recommends against tailoring it to match each job: “What you don’t want to do is try to tell employers what you think they want to hear,” she says, if it doesn’t reflect who you are. “That’s how you end up in positions where you’re ultimately unhappy.”

4. Quantify your experiences and accomplishments

Whenever possible, quantify your experiences and accomplishments by adding numbers, percentages, and other metrics to your resume profile. Keep in mind that recruiters nowadays not only want to know what you did, but also what you achieved and the exact results of your work.

5. Show some personality

While the rest of your resume won’t let much of your personality shine through, your profile gives you an opportunity for creativity. If you’re applying to a casual company, you can add a splash of personality, but if you’re applying to a more formal organization, it’s best to keep things more buttoned up.

What is a resume profile?

A resume profile is a short statement that summarizes your key qualifications and strengths designed to immediately capture hiring managers, recruiters, and prospective employers' attention and convey why you're an excellent fit for the position.

As prime resume real estate, your resume profile sits at the very top of your resume, underneath your name, contact information, and target title.

It is a concise snapshot (around five sentences), highlighting your most relevant and compelling qualifications and experience that aligns with what a future employer is looking for.

Resume profile example

Resume profile vs. resume summary

Resume profiles and resume summaries are often used interchangeably, with good reason. Both provide a snapshot of your professional identity to grab the employer's attention. The main difference? A profile is more results-driven, focusing on tangible skills and specific achievements. A resume summary offers a broader overview, potentially including softer skills or general qualifications.

Resume profile vs. resume objective

The distinction between resume profiles and resume objectives is clearer. A resume profile showcases what you bring to the table, highlighting specific skills and achievements.

A resume objective, however, talks about your career goals or aspirations. It's typically used by career changers, new grads, or those returning to the workforce. Unless you fall into these categories, an objective might not be your best choice. It can seem self-centered and doesn't immediately show your value.

Benefits of a strong resume profile

A professional resume profile helps you stand out, make a strong impression, and grab the attention of hiring managers.

A well-written resume profile statement can be a great way to differentiate yourself from other candidates because it sets the stage for the rest of the resume—providing a concise overview of your tangible, measurable qualifications, skills, and achievements.

So, how does crafting an engaging and compelling profile encourage employers to read further and dive into the details of your experience?

  • Grabs attention by highlighting your most relevant and impressive qualifications immediately, ensuring that the reader takes notice.
  • Makes an impression by enabling you to showcase unique strengths, expertise, and accomplishments—demonstrating why you're the ideal fit for the role.
  • Creates interest by providing a compelling overview of your qualifications and achievements. It also generates curiosity and motivates the reader to explore the rest of the resume in detail.
  • Sets the stage by giving prospective employers a clear understanding of your background and establishing a strong foundation for the following information.
  • Showcases unique value by providing an opportunity to highlight specific achievements, awards, or certifications that demonstrate your exceptional abilities and impact.

What to include in a resume profile

Your resume profile should showcase your most relevant experience, skills, and achievements with a focus on impact. Always aim to include measurable results.

As a resume introduction , your resume profile should include:

  • Years of experience
  • Key skills relevant to the job
  • Most impressive achievements with quantifiable results
  • Relevant certifications or education
  • Unique value proposition - what sets you apart?

Remember, keep it concise and impactful. Your goal is to grab the employer's attention and make them want to read more about you.

Professional title

Clearly state your professional title, highlighting your expertise. And remember, your resume title or target title (the title you're aiming for) should sit above your "Resume Profile" section. This helps employers quickly understand your specialization.

Summary statement

Craft a concise summary of your key qualifications, skills, and achievements. Focus on tangible results and notable experiences (but only those relevant and significant to the role you're applying for).

Relevant experience

Highlight your work experience, emphasizing specific accomplishments, projects, or roles that demonstrate your skills and expertise. Quantify your achievements with measurable results to showcase your impact.

List your core skills and competencies that are relevant to the position. Include both technical and soft skills, using industry-specific keywords to optimize your profile and grab attention. Highlight areas of strength like strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, or adaptability and connect them to data whenever possible.

Industry-related keywords from the job description

Incorporate relevant keywords and industry-specific terminology throughout your profile. This helps align your profile with the requirements of the target role and enhances your chances of being noticed by hiring managers.

Achievements

Showcase specific accomplishments and successes, like awards, recognitions, or impressive measurable outcomes from your previous roles. Provide quantifiable results to demonstrate your impact.

Professional associations or affiliations

If you're feeling light on quantifiable metrics, it's okay to mention any memberships in professional organizations, industry affiliations, or leadership roles that demonstrate your commitment to professional development and staying current in your field. Include numbers like years you've been a member or data about your participation.

Language proficiency

If applicable to the role you're applying for, include any language skills that are relevant to the role or industry. Fluency in multiple languages or proficiency in specific languages can be an asset, particularly in global work environments.

How to write a resume profile summary

A well-crafted resume profile summary is like a short professional bio that typically consists of three key parts: an introductory statement, one or two sentences highlighting your skills and achievements, and at least one metric. This structure allows you to quickly capture the employer's attention and showcase your value and impact.

How to write a resume profile

1. Title your section

If you opt for a title, keep it simple and clear. Use "Professional Profile," "Professional Summary," or simply "Profile." This title immediately signals to the employer what they're about to read, setting the stage for your career snapshot.

2. Introductory statement

Start with a powerful opener that summarizes your professional identity. This should be a concise statement that encapsulates your years of experience, industry, and primary skill set.

For example:

SaaS marketing leader with 8 years of experience in digital campaign management, print and digital media, and brand development.

3. 1-2 statements highlighting skills and achievements (with impact)

Provide specific achievements that demonstrate your value. Focus on results that align with the job you're applying for, and include at least one quantifiable metric to show your impact.

For instance: "I spearheaded innovative social media strategies that increased engagement by 150%, leading to a 25% boost in sign-up revenue. I've led cross-functional teams of 10+ to deliver 7+ marketing campaigns. In addition, my data-driven approach using tools like Google Analytics, Clarity, and AHREFS for content creation increased branded traffic by 40% year-over-year."

Tip #3: Tailor your profile to the job posting. Focus on skills and achievements most relevant to the position you're applying for.

Tip #4: Keep it concise and scannable. Use clear language to communicate your key strengths and achievements without unnecessary detail.

Tip #5: Proofread carefully. Ensure your profile is error-free and reads smoothly. Consider reading it aloud to check for clarity and flow.

How to Write a Short Professional Bio

Creating a compelling professional bio is an essential task for anyone looking to make a strong impression in their career. In this article, we will guide you through the process of writing a concise and effective text that captures your professional essence, showcases your expertise , and makes a memorable impact.

We'll provide practical tips and examples to help you craft a bio that not only resonates with your audience but also reflects your personal brand. This article will equip you with the tools to compose a professional biography.

What is a Professional Bio

A short personal bio is a concise summary that introduces you. It's typically a brief paragraph or a few sentences long and is used in various professional contexts such as social media profiles, company websites, conference speaker introductions, networking events, and job applications.

The purpose of a professional biography is to give a snapshot of who you are professionally , encouraging further interest in your work .

A well-crafted short work bio is a versatile tool that can enhance your career presence and open up new opportunities. Below we will show you how to format it, which key elements should a bio contain, and what tone to use.

What Format to Choose

The voice and tone should match the context in which the bio will be used and the audience it is intended for. Here are key considerations and tips.

  • Platform. Where will the bio be used? A bio for LinkedIn might be more professional and formal compared to a biography for a company’s "About Us" page or a social media profile.
  • Audience. Who is your target audience? Consider the expectations and preferences of your readers, whether they are potential employers, clients, colleagues, or industry peers.

First Person vs. Third Person

  • First Person (I, Me, My). Use this option for a more personal and direct approach, often suitable for websites.
  • Third Person (He, She, They). Employ it for a traditional resume bio, which is often preferred for LinkedIn profiles, and professional publications.

Formal vs. Informal Voice

  • Formal. Use it for corporate websites, professional networks, academic or industry journals, and other official contexts.
  • Informal. It may be appropriate for personal websites, blogs, certain social media platforms, or creative industry jobs.

Tone and Language

  • Polished. Ensure that the language is clear and free of jargon (unless it is industry-specific keywords and your audience will understand it).
  • Approachable. If the context allows, you can adopt a friendly and conversational tone to make the bio more engaging.

Consistency

  • Align with Personal Brand. Your bio should be consistent with your documents like your resume, cover letter , and online profiles.
  • Company/Industry Standards. If you are writing a professional bio for an organization website or publication, ensure it aligns with the standard tone and style used by the firm.

Formal Example of a Bio:

Corporate Executive: "Mary Johnson is the Chief Financial Officer at Global Enterprises, where she oversees financial planning, risk management, and strategic investments. How to Write a Professional Bio That Wows: 25+ Inspiring Examples and Templates for 2024

Your professional bio is one of the most important career assets you‘ll ever create. Whether it lives on your website, LinkedIn profile, conference brochure or company "About Us" page, it‘s often the first thing people read to understand who you are and what you bring to the table.

A well-crafted bio doesn‘t just inform, it captivates. It piques people‘s interest and compels them to want to learn more about you. In an attention-starved world, a magnetic bio can be your secret weapon for standing out, building trust, and opening doors to exciting professional opportunities.

But what exactly makes a bio great instead of just good? How do you condense your entire career journey into a few pithy yet powerful paragraphs? The best bios manage to strike a delicate balance – highlighting impressive accomplishments while still sounding relatable, injecting personality without trying too hard, alluding to a larger purpose beyond just listing titles and accolades.

To inspire your own bio-writing efforts, we‘ve curated over 25 of the most engaging real-life examples from across industries, roles and seniority levels. These range from short and sweet one-paragraph summaries to more in-depth narratives, each uniquely effective in its own way.

Before we dive into the examples, let‘s recap the core ingredients that make a bio truly stand out:

Hook: Open with an attention-grabbing first line that instantly draws readers in and makes them want to keep reading.

Credibility: Establishing your expertise is crucial for building trust. Mention your most impressive and relevant credentials, certifications, awards or high-profile clients/employers.

Personality: People connect with people, not just resumes. Infuse your bio with your unique voice, passions, values and even a touch of humor when appropriate.

Storytelling: Go beyond rattling off your CV by weaving in personal anecdotes, challenges overcome, or milestones reached to create a captivating career narrative.

Specificity: Vague platitudes won‘t cut it. Use concrete numbers, examples and descriptions to paint a vivid picture of your skills and impact. Show, don‘t just tell.

Relevance: Unless you‘re writing a memoir, readers don‘t need your entire life story. Curate the details that matter most to your ideal audience and align with your professional goals.

Call-to-action: Don‘t leave readers hanging. End with a clear next step, whether that‘s visiting your website, connecting on social media, or reaching out via email.

As you explore the examples below, make note of how they embody these key principles in their own unique style and voice. Then leverage the fill-in-the-blank templates to craft a new bio of your own that brings your professional story to life and leaves a lasting impression.

How to Write a Short Bio? (With Examples)

7 min read · Updated on August 28, 2024

Marsha Hebert

A short professional biography is a great tool to have in your career marketing toolkit.

As you progress through your career, there will likely come a time when someone wants you to provide them with a professional biography. It could be that your boss wants to include something on the team page of the company website or perhaps you need to write a blurb about your biggest achievements for a social media page.

Regardless of the reason, you should always have one ready to go. Many people have quite a few questions about writing short professional bios, though, including

What is a bio?

How to write a short bio?

What voice to use in a short bio – first person or third person?

What is the format of a short biography?

What is a good bio example?

Let's just say that you're in the right place to find out.

What is a short bio?

Have you ever heard the phrase “elevator pitch?” Well, that's what a bio is. It's about 200 words that define who you are, what you do, what you've accomplished, and what your goals are. If that seems like a lot to put into a couple hundred words, you're right.

This isn't the time to go on and on about everything you've ever done. Since the purpose of a short professional bio is to introduce you to whoever is reading it, it's best to worry about only hitting the high notes.

Think about what you say when someone asks you the following:

What do you do?

How long have you done it?

What do you like most about it?

Have you ever won an award ?

Why do you want to keep doing what you do?

Your answers to those questions will help you craft your biography, though you'll probably have to pare down the wording to keep it within the requisite word count. Always remember KISS – Keep it Short and Simple.

How to write a short professional bio?

Just like with your resume, a short professional bio should contain key details. Those details should also appear in a predictable order.

Your name and current job title

Your professional philosophy

Some of your best skills

Career achievements

What you have your sights set on for the future

You could also include things like links to online portfolios or your contact information, depending on where the bio is going to be used. For example, if you're adding the short professional bio to a web page that already has your contact info, then you don't need to add it to the bio itself.

First-person vs third-person for your short professional bio

Before you start writing, you have to decide which voice you're going to use for your biography. Meaning, are you going to write it using first-person or third-person?

First-person writing involves using pronouns like “I,” “me,” and “my”

Third-person writing is when you avoid using personal pronouns and stick to possessive pronouns or possessive adjectives like "he," "she," "his," and "her"

It all depends on your audience. You'd choose to write your short professional bio in the first person if you're using it for personal websites, social media profiles , and networking events. It's better to use the third person when you're writing for company websites, professional directories, or other formal settings.

Short professional bio examples: Your name and current job title

This may seem like a given, but because it's such a simple thing, a lot of people try to overdo it. You literally only need to write something like this

Third-person: Janet Plunder is the Head of Marketing for We Are Creatives, Inc.

First-person:   My name is Jeff Safeport, and I am the Network Manager for BitBytes.

Short professional bio examples: Your professional philosophy

Have you ever thought about the values and ethics you possess and how those shape your work and interaction with others? That is the basis of your professional philosophy. Prospective employers and future clients want to know how you distinguish yourself from others. The way you come up with your professional philosophy is through a little self-assessment. Ask yourself

What do I believe in?

What am I committed to?

What values are most important in my professional life?

How do I approach challenges?

Have I made any type of impact in my field?

This is what the philosophy statement could look like in your short bio:

  • Third-person: She is known for leading with integrity, fostering collaborative environments, and continuously seeking innovative solutions that drive success.
  • First-person:   I am committed to prioritizing client satisfaction. Also, by embracing the idea of lifelong learning, I consistently strive for excellence in everything all projects I undertake.

Short professional bio examples: Your skills and qualifications

Going back to the concept of KISS, you want to avoid trying to include a laundry list of every skill you possess. The idea here is to focus on the abilities that set you apart in your field. You need to be specific not only about what you excel at but also how the particular skills you choose for your short professional bio have helped you be successful.

For example:

  • Third-person: Jane is known for creating digital marketing strategies, with a particular focus on SEO and content marketing. She has a proven track record of increasing online visibility, brand awareness, and consumer engagement for countless globally branded companies.
  • First-person :  One of my strong suits is the ability to streamline processes in a way that improves productivity across international teams. I do this through full lifecycle project management and deep-dive data analysis.

Short professional bio examples: Your career achievements

Back when you were writing your resume, you probably heard over and over again how important career achievements are. There are millions of articles out there that tell you how to quantify the things you've accomplished in past jobs because that's how prospective employers know you'll be a benefit to their team.

The same holds true for your short professional bio. Your readers will be able to tell how you can help them by getting a glimpse into your career wins. Focus on notable awards and major projects that point to you achieving milestones.

Here's what that could look like:

  • Third-person: Recently, she led a rebranding project that increased revenue by more than 20%, earning her the Innovator of the Year award.
  • First-person :  In my last position, I ascended to the prestigious President's Club after overhauling project processes and saving the company $10M.

Short professional bio examples: Your professional goals

The one thing that distinguishes a short professional bio from your other career marketing documents is that it not only showcases your history but it's also future-facing. This gives you a great opportunity to talk about your aspirations and which direction you are heading in your career.

You can show prospective employers and future clients that you're going to be around a while by talking about things like being “forward-thinking” and emphasizing your “commitment to growth,” as examples.

Here are a couple of short professional bio examples you can use as inspiration for your own professional goals :

  • Third-person: Jane is looking forward to developing leadership skills to transition into an executive management role so that she can foster innovation at the corporate level.
  • First-person :  Since the beginning of my career, I've focused on expanding my expertise in cybersecurity and am poised to move into a Chief Information Officer position.

Leave a lasting impression

No matter what type of document you're writing for your career, the object is always to leave a lasting impression. That holds true even for a short professional bio. It may only be a couple hundred words, but they're very important words. Keep it concise, relevant, and engaging, and the right doors will open to propel you along your career journey.

The best way to get the right details into your short professional bio is to use information from your resume. Does your resume say what you need it to say about your skills, qualifications, and achievements? Upload it for a free review and find out.

What is a CV personal profile?

A personal profile, also known as a CV summary, is the opening statement of your CV. It is a short introduction which outlines your personal characteristics, telling the prospective employer what kind of a person you are, the attributes and qualities that you possess and the work experience that you have.

personal profile cv examples

How to write a CV profile statement from scratch

When writing your personal profile, ensure it is:

  • Short (no more than 6 lines);
  • Relevant to the job you are applying for, and;
  • Contains some real-world examples .

Be bold, be confident and talk about yourself in a positive way.

Your personal profile is not the place to be humble; it is your chance to be noticed and tell the potential employer exactly who you ‘really’ are and what you can do for them.

Warning: Do not go ‘over the top’ and give the impression that you are either very arrogant or simply too good to be true! Keep it balanced and realistic, bearing in mind the needs of the employer.

What information to include on a personal profile

The purpose of your personal profile is to concisely present your skills, qualities, work experience, and your career goals and ambitions. Consequently, you can mention anything from the following categories when constructing your personal profile:

Personal Qualities

  • Self-motivated
  • Having an eye for detail
  • Management skills
  • Communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Design skills
  • 5 years experience in …
  • Excellent track record of …
  • Extensive background in …
  • Previous work experience in …

An ideal statement should have at least one example for each of these three categories.

How long should my profile statement be?

There are no set rules about the length of a personal profile, however, it is highly recommended to keep it ideally within the 50/80-words boundary (no longer than six lines). The reason for this is because employers, in the first instance, tend to scan CVs rather than extensively read it. Keeping it short and to the point increases the chances that they will actually read it.

Furthermore, as the total length of a CV is only 2 A4 pages long, having a short statement frees us valuable space for other key sections of your CV such as the work experience, education and skills sections .

What is the most important thing to include on a personal profile? Real-world examples and tangible performance indicators, for example; increased sales by x percent, managed x number of people, won such-and-such awards, improved productivity by x percent, etc. These types of information are highly valuable, as opposed to saying that you are the “best salesperson in the country” and not backing it up with any evidence!

The Biologist Resume Writing Guide

Resume sections.

1. Contact Information:

  • Phone Number

Add as well as additional channels through which you can be reached, such as LinkedIn or Facebook. Be sure to add a header with your personal information. To make your name stand out, try using a slightly larger font.

2. Profile Summary:  This summary is where you sell yourself, in a manner of speaking, to your prospective employer, in 1-3 sentences. Your whole life's worth of experience until this moment is what summarizes who you are all your actions and beliefs until this point in time is what defines you. State your relevant experiences and achievements in this section, and tell your future employer why you are perfect for this position. Keep your summary short, but make sure it is impactful. This is your first impression. Make it count.

3. Qualifications Summary:  Here, you brag. State your qualifications and certifications relevant to your job title. Bachelor's or Associates level degrees are often required. Some institutions will, however, need a Master's or Ph.D. Make sure to mention the dates on which you have completed them. Also include qualifications you are currently working on. It is of the utmost importance that the information you provide is accurate and up to date.

4. Relevant Biologist Experience:  To pursue a career in Biology, you are required to have prior experience. Tell your employer about your experience relevant to the job, including your familiarity with various biological and scientific tools and equipment. Also, tell your future employer about your past ten years of working experience and the most noteworthy research to support. Use bullet points to neatly list any job-related achievements you have, such as any research you may have led or supervised to demonstrate leadership skills and make mention of any material you have published or co-published for a little extra razzle-dazzle.

5. Other Employment Experience:  If applying for your first job, you want to give your professional experience the spotlight, front, and center. For this reason, it is advisable to make use of the Chronological format, which is ATS-compliant and a form familiar to most hiring managers. Included in this format is your work experiences and duties that don't directly relate to that of a Biologist, but still include research such as research activities and projects you have conducted during your undergrad studies or mini-dissertations.

6. Skills Summary/Key Skills:  ATS isn't some or other kind of hormone used in ATP synthesis or a DNA sequence. Instead, it refers to an applicant tracking system and algorithm that your potential employers use to weed out all unqualified candidates who do not include the necessary skills for the job in their resume. It's crucial to list your critical skills related to your specific and desired position by incorporating the keywords found in the specific job posting. To pass this dreaded ATS, make mention of your additional skills, too. Scatter these keywords throughout your resume in a natural fashion. Incorporate these into your skills list, also.

7. Education/Licenses/Certifications/Relevant Coursework/Training: In this section of your resume, list your formal academic qualifications, such as your degrees and accreditations, first. Then go on to list any professional development courses or programs you may have participated in that better prepare you for your position. Of you are still on the junior side, list any professional development courses, workshops, or programs you completed that better prepared you to work in a supportive role such as report writing, research platforms, information databases, data assimilation software, research management tools, and applications.

What to Highlight in a Biology Resume

A Biologist studies all living things and how they impact their environment and vice versa. These are very complex and diverse, as there are countless processes and organisms to study. Your experience as a Biologist is essential, but there is other information your future employer (most likely a highly acclaimed scientist or Biologist themselves) will need to know about you to ensure that you are a good fit for the position in question.

First and foremost, it is crucial to address the setting in which you work. For a Biologist, there is a broad spectrum of options available in terms of employment. As a Biologist, you have an arsenal of options available to you, but you need to remember that recruiters may not understand your industry. So be as clear as possible regarding your role type and description.

  • Government: As a Biologist, you will most likely get a job working for the government. Biologists specializing in a field such as epidemiology can get a job working for organizations such as the CDC or healthcare research. USAMRIID is another option to pursue. As far as government work goes, you might also look at the EPA or take on research advisory roles in state environmental protection bodies.
  • Education: For a Biology graduate, teaching is also an alluring option to pursue. There is a shortage of biology graduates, and it is also a STEM subject. Therefore you will always have employment opportunities available to you, especially in research positions in government and universities. Teaching is also an attractive choice for many biology graduates.
  • Law Enforcement: They also make use of Biologists in forensics. They examine evidence and analyze crime scenes.
  • Private Sector: If you're more interested in the private industry, Biologists can look into labs doing disease research and treatment using botany. You can also consider into researching herbicides and pesticides for agricultural development. Other options also include biotechnology, research in genetic modification, and the future of agritech.

Secondly, Biology is so vast that no one Biologist can be an expert in all fields. Most Biologists choose, therefore, to specialize in one biological field and dedicate their academic career to that one field. Hiring Managers would look for specific keywords and jargon regarding your field of specialization. Let's consider a few choices and look at the most important keywords and phrases to use when compiling your resume:

  • Anatomy: Explain to the ready whether you are involved in human, animal, or plant anatomy work. The study of human anatomy focuses on the structures of the human body and studies the way that these internal parts interact with one another to form a functional unit. Studying the anatomy of animals focusses on the various structures of the animal body to differentiate between what is expected and what is abnormal. Plant anatomy focuses on the internal structures and processes found in plants, mostly on a cellular level.
  • Morphology: If this is you, Lab Managers will look for terms such as the study of the macroscopic structures of plants to the microscopic or molecular level.
  • Histology: Think everything tissue related. Research directors would want to know what your level of experience is in preparing tissue samples for examination under a microscope.
  • Ecology: Ecologists study the relationship between living organisms and their environment. They also study the consequences these relationships have on the environment. This field often involves teaching and education aspects to, so be sure to mention if you are comfortable with educating on a community or school level.
  • Physiology: This field of study has led to breakthroughs in biological sciences, and keywords to add to your job descriptions include: animal-, plant-, cellular-, and microbial physiology. organs, organisms, systems, cells, and biomolecules.
  • Cytology: Cytology is the study of the structure, function, and composition of cells. Due to its importance in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions, cytology is seen as a part of the field of pathology. You would probably be working for a pharmaceutical or disease control center. Industry buzzwords that readers would search for on your resume include: urine, blood, and spinal fluid.
  • Embryology: Embryologists can either work with doctors in cases of reproductive health in patients or a clinical research environment. Clinical embryologists retrieve and run tests on eggs and are key role players in in-vitro fertilization. If they choose to, embryologists can further their careers as fertility researchers, andrologists, senior embryologists, or even become professors. Regardless, the onus is you to ensure that the purpose of your position is clearly emphasized in your resume content.
  • Genetics: Geneticist, as indicated by the name, focuses on the genes, or DNA, found in organisms. Recruiters would be considering your contributions in the evaluation, diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients with genetic issues. They would also expect to see information about patient counseling and your contributions to international publications and journals in your resume document.

Next to address is your administrative functions. A Biologist is often tasked with duties similar to that of an executive assistant but in a research setting. These duties include administrative tasks such as organizing fundraisers, preparing and proofreading reports, or manuscripts for their professors or printing proposals. They also often get tasked with cleaning lab equipment, taking minutes in meetings, or being stakeholders.

Finally, Biologists need to be literate in various technologies, tools, and software to fill their jobs.

  • If you are planning on conducting exploratory or investigative activities, you would need to know how to use various search engines other than google. Some other search engines include ContentMine, Biohunger, Mendeley, DeepDyve, BibSonomy, ReadCube CiteULike, and ScizzlFor
  • To speed up your research process, you will need to know how to use article visualization tools to help you navigate multiple platforms at in your resume; it would be wise to mention your competency in applications like Colwiz, Pegasus, Ovation, PaperHive, PubReader, and Bookshelf.
  • As a researcher and Biologist, activities such as coding and programming are essential skills to have. Some of the software applications your future employer will be looking for on your resume include: Matlab, SQL, R, Python, and SPSS

Biology Resume Summary

Professors at universities and the directors at research institutes tend to be the hiring decision-makers for Biology positions. Biology is such a high-stakes field, and potential employers want the best of the best. Therefore your resume will have a mere 6 seconds to make a good impression. Your career summary should be short and sweet. Keep the content detailed and to the point. Write the most relevant information first to get their attention while they scan your resume.

Start the summary with the most relevant experiences in biology and the duties you performed. Use the keywords you find in the job description, as mentioned previously, to guide how you write your summary. These words are how you will look more suited for the job in question to the hiring manager.

The next important thing is to add a line that showcases how outstanding you are; tell your employer about your best qualities and how you will add value to the company.

End your summary with your educational background. List your degrees, diplomas courses, or professional memberships that relate to the job at hand.

Highlight Your Accomplishments

Resist that strong pull tempting you to copy and paste the list of duties you have stated under your accomplishments. This will not help you stand out from the other applicants.

Instead, list the awards you have received, seminars you have attended in the industry, and any other achievements that haven't been listed elsewhere that you find relevant.

Remember to keep the content relevant to the specific job you are applying for. No one cares about your gold medal in gymnastics, can read astrology birth charts, or that trophy you won at a fishing tournament. If the reader perceives the content added in this section as true accomplishments, it'll add value to your resume.

What sets you apart from everyone else? What are you most proud of? Communicate these using action-packed statements to grab the attention of the hiring manager. The relevant achievements and awards to this position are more valuable than a high GPA, significantly, if you can add a number to your achievement. For example:

  • Managed 500 DNA and tissue samples,
  • Exceeded performance by achieving <1% of OOS related to laboratory error.
  • Performed routine testing in the following areas: AFB testing (smear, culture, and ID using solid media), which identified four new areas of research
  • Conduct Radio-tracked 16 white-tailed deer (Federal Endangered Species) to determine fawn survival ed 60 hours of surveys over three weeks

Shortly indicate What, Where, and When regarding your academic qualifications, certifications, or obtained industry licenses. Simply state the name of your qualification, the institution you received it from, and the date on which you completed the qualification. Feel free to include the major subjects or course curriculum topics if you have an associate's or bachelor's degree.

2020 – Master of Science in Biology, University of Colorado Denver Colorado

2013 – 2017 Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, University of Nevada, Reno Nevada Course Curriculum: Physics, Biochemistry, Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, Geometry

2012 Certification in Molecular Pathology, University of Minnesota Moorhead, MN

Biology Resume Skills

Along with the technical skills required in the field of biology, soft skills are also taken into consideration. Soft skills refer to the personality traits or abilities that indicate to the hiring manager that you are a good fit as a Biologist. Take care to incorporate these into your summary, or profile, and into your accomplishments. Here, you focus on the biology skills that make you a well-above-average research assistant. It is essential to get this right:

Make one master list of all the job skills you have, in other words, both the soft skills and hard skills, technical skills, and any skills you've got hidden in your lab coat pocket.

Go through the list and choose those skills best suited for the job. Use that job ad as a good guideline, and use these in your interview-winning resume. Mention skills that your education and past experiences can prove.

  • Leverage white space throughout your resume to give it a clean, easy-on-the-eye, professional feel.
  • We suggest bold (but not garish) colors in the header and titles to draw attention.
  • Say goodbye to excess white space by adding some relevant projects you’ve worked on.
  • Just make sure they relate to the  customer service job description  and emphasize your most relevant skills.

  • Metrics draw the eye of the resume reader and increase the length of time they’ll review your  customer service specialist resume , which increases your likelihood of getting an interview. Since a hiring manager will, on average, spend six seconds reviewing your resume, hooking their attention quickly is key.

  • For example, how much time did you save in labor hours? How much did you increase profits for the company? Provide any details that show how quickly you could boost numbers at the next business that’s smart enough to hire you.
  • Striking a good balance between hard and soft skills is tricky, but doable—the  skills section on your resume  can emphasize the soft skills that made those impressive numbers happen in the first place.

  • Having trouble breaking up with the roles you had in high school? You can save old positions in a separate document, just in case. Just reassure yourself that you can discuss this expertise during an interview.
  • Rather than cramming your work experience down to microscopic font size, try honing in on your most relevant work history.
  • Since you probably have plenty of experience, you may want to consider including a  resume summary , which can give a valuable overview of your skills and how they’ve driven results over the course of your lengthy (10+ years for a summary) career.

  • As long as you’re not distracting from the content of your resume, go ahead and get a little creative.

  • That’s right. Your resume doesn’t need to look computer-generated to command respect. In fact, using a sprinkle of color can demonstrate your confidence and individuality, making you an even more appealing candidate.
  • A word of caution: While more companies are valuing the individuality and flair of applicants, there are times when toned-down colors (like deep navy, slate gray, or hunter green) may be more appropriate. This can be especially true if you’re applying to a larger corporate business. Determine what’s best by investigating the  customer service job description’s  work culture.

Customer Service Advisor Resume

  • Now, that doesn’t mean you need to bring the entire color wheel to your resume. Instead, focus on grabbing recruiters’ attention by using one or two colors for your section titles. You can start from scratch to find a visually-appealing color, or use a  resume template  if you’re not artistically inclined.
  • Take your resume personalization to the next step by adding a  career summary  section if you’re a total pro in the field with more than a decade of experience. Use this section for some humble bragging and tell hiring managers about your biggest accomplishments over the course of your career. Because if there’s any good time to brag, it’s on your resume, right?

  • Don’t be afraid to highlight your  hobbies and interests on your resume .
  • But, please, please ensure you can relate them to the job. If you’re including a super interesting hobby, a hiring manager is almost certainly going to ask you all about it. 4 Tips to Improve Your Customer Service Resume Today

Recruiter points with yellow chalk to job skills and qualifications list on blackboard

Customer service resumes have gone beyond a simple list of experiences and education that prove your worth. Now, they’re as varied as the candidates themselves. Before writing a resignation letter and applying for your next job, check out BeamJobs’ list of recommendations to make your resume sound professional, look neat, and prove without a doubt that you’re the best candidate. We’ll cover:

  • Customer service skills
  • Formatting your customer service resume
  • Quantifying your previous impact
  • Customizing your resume for each job

sample resume bio profile

Tip 1: Confidently choose your customer service skills

The  skills section of a resume  might be short, but it packs a punch. This is where you sell what you’re capable of and what you can do. This section is especially important for ATS to keep you in the running, so it’s crucial to pay attention to what skills you possess.

You should list both hard skills (like Microsoft Office Suite, HubSpot, or HelpDesk) and soft skills (like organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication). The best place to find applicable skills would be the job description itself—see what’s required for the tasks listed, and then use those tasks to steer you in the right direction.

Let’s say you run across a  customer service job description  requesting bilingual support like this:

  • Answer telephone calls and emails promptly in Spanish and English
  • Maintain and extend client base through positive customer interaction
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in both Spanish and English
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Flexible—must be able to work independently AND with a team daily

Based on the job description, it’s clear this company values a bilingual, organized individual who is an effective communicator. These skills (as long as they accurately define you) should serve as the foundation of your skills section. And a word to the wise—don’t apply for a job if you can’t honestly say you own the skill set required.

Now, it’s time to tailor your skills section to the job description, which could look like this:

  • Bilingual (Spanish and English)
  • Organized
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Proven customer success
  • Empathetic
  • Methodical and thorough documentation
  • CRM (HubSpot)

Not every customer service job description will look like the one above, so your skills section should reflect the role for which you’re applying.

The following skills would be great additions to other customer service positions:

  • Data analysis
  • Metrics-driven
  • Customer service reporting
  • Self-motivated
  • Social media
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Inquisitive

Tip 2: Format your resume for the ATS and recruiters

When you open the pages of a book, what’s more inviting: dense blocks of text with little color or short paragraphs with headings, indents, and plenty of white space? The latter is easier to read and, thus, more inviting. Your customer service resume needs to follow the same principle since it’s your first impression. Make the recruiter’s job as easy as possible by being neat, easy to read, and understandable.

There are multiple ways to achieve this, but one of the easiest is to put things in  reverse-chronological format . This helps recruiters know immediately where you’re coming from. (For example, if you recently worked as a customer service representative, you’ll have a shorter adjustment period. And even if you were a customer service rep a few years ago, the reverse-chronological order will help recruiters quickly assess your qualifications.)

Further suggestions for keeping your resume easy to read:

  • Bullet points rely on keywords, essential for making your resume ATS-friendly. The condensed structure and repetitive points also relieve eye strain when reading.
  • Place the customer service title beneath your name to make it easier for the recruiter to keep that specific job in mind as they scan your resume. This is especially crucial when a company is hiring for multiple positions.
  • The average time a recruiter spends looking at a resume is six to seven seconds, which means you should only include necessities. Anything else that’s relevant can be brought up in the job interview.
  • Some companies see them as antiquated, but others like knowing exactly what you’re aiming for. Scan resumes in the job field to see if others include them, and consider reaching out to current employees on LinkedIn for advice.
  • Primarily, fancy icons or images may confuse the ATS. Beyond that, leaving them off your resume looks more professional; plus, it leaves room for more important things, like skills or awards.

Objective or summary for your customer service resume?

Objectives and summaries  are a hot topic for resumes. It’s up to you to decide if an objective or summary is needed for your customer service resume. Typically, objectives/summaries are a good idea if you’re changing careers, you’re an entry-level applicant, or if you want to customize them for each application. Otherwise, it would be best to leave space for other things.

The difference between objectives and summaries rests in their purpose and your level of experience. Both are roughly two to three sentences, but  an objective describes your interest and qualifications for the job while a summary highlights your past work . If you have limited experience, you should choose an objective to sell why you’re the best candidate, but if you’re years into customer service, you could include a summary to describe your unique background.

No matter if it’s a summary or an objective, it should always be concise, informative, and personal ; this is your chance to show your personality and skills before the interview, so make it count.

When you write your objective, communicate your reason for applying and why you’d make a great candidate. Avoid making it generic, flat, or too casual:

  • College graduate looking for work in the customer service industry to start a life-long career. I’m hardworking, great with people, and skilled with computers.

Instead, your objective should be specific, detailed, and unique to both you and the job description. Try something that highlights your skills regardless of your experience level:

Customer service resume objective

For those who have 10+ years of experience, a summary is the best way to go. Poor summaries have limited and vague information:

  • I’m a manager who is seeking further professional growth. I’m good at resolving conflicts, handling money, and writing reports; looking for a job that will give me experience and career options.

Rather, a summary should be a highlight reel of your accomplishments and expertise. To further showcase your talent, add metrics here, too:

Customer service resume summary

This summary is tailored to the position and outlines the candidate’s experience and skills while being personable and not too formal. By carefully crafting your objective or summary, you can rise above the competition in just two to three sentences.

Tip 3: Leverage metrics on your customer service resume

Leveraging metrics is all about avoiding generality and demonstrating success. Most job description bullets don’t describe how successful, friendly, or efficient you were. However, saying, “Assisted 200+ customers weekly with technical questions with a 98% customer satisfaction rate,” tells the recruiter the specifics of your talents and abilities.

Writing metrics for every single bullet point isn’t necessary, but including an estimate when you can is better than staying vague.

Some customer service metrics to add to your resume include:

  • Customer satisfaction (CSAT) score: The core aspect of customer service is keeping customers happy, so providing high CSAT scores based on your interaction with customers is bound to get recruiters noticing.
  • Net promoter score: Just like the CSAT, this gives an insight into how happy customers are with the company.
  • Employee retention rate: This statistic works well if you’re in a management position with a tight-knit group. That means your leadership has a direct effect on how many customer service reps leave or stay.
  • Resolution rate: By showing a percentage of solved cases, you demonstrate your effective problem-solving skills and care for the customer.
  • Customer effort score: This shows how much effort it took to get an issue resolved. Less effort means you’re easier to work with and more effective, which is why a low CES score is useful to add to your resume.
  • Customer/employee numbers: Providing the number of teammates, employees, or customers you’ve helped or served is a great way to show your capability in helping large volumes of people.

Now that you know what kind of metrics to include, below are some examples of how you can use them in practice. If you have trouble calculating some of the aforementioned metrics,  HelpCrunch  or  Kustomer  have some helpful formulas.

  • Assisted over 250 patrons with technological questions monthly with a consistent 86 CSAT score based on interactions
  • Extended the client base through positive, empathetic communication, resulting in a net promoter score of over 50
  • Led a group of 20 employees through conflict resolution training, and updated onboarding processes that improved employee retention by 23%

Tip 4: Customize your customer service resume for the job

Just as every company is different, no customer service position is identical. So, why would you submit the same resume for multiple customer service job applications? Tailoring your resume shows you have researched the job and helps corroborate your candidacy.

Check the following list for advice on how to customize sections of your resume:

  • Mention the company by name and what you hope to accomplish. Check the “job details” section of the job description to see what the company hopes to achieve, whether it’s boosting customer loyalty or increasing customer satisfaction.
  • Many customer service jobs require similar skills, but that doesn’t mean your skills should stay stale. Check the job description’s qualifications to scan for skill keywords to use. Keep it under 10 to avoid being excessive.
  • Include the job description requirements in your resume as much as you can. If the job description says they’re looking for someone who will “standardize quality customer service through positive customer interactions,” mimic that wording on your resume to describe your past achievements. This helps make your resume ATS-friendly while highlighting your skills.
  • No matter the customer service role you’re seeking, there are many ways to  write your resume  so that it’s relevant and unique to every application:

Customer service resume

  • All of these are good ways to customize your job description points.
  • Include a concise objective that mentions the company by name, and highlight why you’re qualified for the job.
  • Have you assisted large volumes of customers or boosted overall customer numbers? Have you increased efficiency or used specific software discussed in the job description?

Customer service rep resume

  • Outcomes like increased sales or error reductions are great metrics to include.
  • Highlight skills like empathy, friendliness, and negotiation in your skills section and job description bullets.
  • Include your goals for your interactions with customers, like “established lasting relationships” to draw attention to your interpersonal skills.

Customer service manager resume

  • Use verbs like “directed,” “led,” or “modeled” to demonstrate productive leadership.
  • Include a summary to showcase the success of your career so far and what you can bring to your new job.

Entry-level customer service resume

  • For example, if you were a lab assistant, you had to be highly organized and a great problem-solver, which would work well in a customer service resume.
  • Stress your ability to work well with people—include any courses,  extracurricular projects , or volunteer efforts where you interacted with people consistently.

Retail customer service resume

  • Include past experience where you solved problems, troubleshot issues, or resolved disagreements.
  • Anything relating to product management would be an excellent addition—think of past jobs that dealt with marketing or sales, especially if you can provide metrics like increased revenue or reaching sales targets.

Customer success manager resume

  • CSMs must be able to see trouble coming and steer clear, so include responsibilities where you proactively and positively improved the customer’s experience.
  • Resilience and tenacity are two core elements of the customer success journey, so long-term projects and goals are solid additions to prove you’re willing to spend the time to get something done right.

Bilingual customer support resume

  • Include all languages in which you’re fluent in the skills section. Also, make sure to highlight your bilingual (or multilingual) abilities in your objective or summary.
  • Mention how you improved your customer service strategies or practices as this will show you actively make customer experiences better for everyone.

Customer service consultant resume

  • CSCs are also great advocates for both the customer and the company. They see things from both the customer’s perspective and the company’s, so keep your resume balanced between your advancements for the company and your success with customers.

The keys to your customer service resume

Resumes are your first impression, so it’s important you make a good one. By taking the extra time to customize and adjust your customer service resume, you’ll catch the eye of hiring managers. Often this means that they’re evaluating systems for vulnerabilities, setting up a new and functional system, and then leaving the client to maintain the system with internal personnel. Cyber security consultants represent a unique skill set in the industry. Because they are hired from outside of the organization in need, they have to have equally high standards in their ability to work with diverse companies, understanding and communicating with those they often don’t have long-term relationships with, and in their wide but deep technical expertise, which allows them to recognize problems efficiently and in different settings. Unlike other roles in the cyber security industry, consultants are constantly proving their worth (just as a freelancer would).

Strong use of technical action verbs

If you scan just the first word of each of these bullet points, they each have a different descriptive and action verb which is technical and highlights a core cyber security skill set. This gives your writing energy and (in combination with data points) places you in the active role in all of your work.

Strong use of technical action verbs - Cyber Security Consultant Resume

Show both the width and depth of cyber security.

Sometimes applicants worry that general skill sets are a negative. If you are a consultant, the opposite is often true. As long as you can show that you were successful in your diverse roles in the same industry (which this resume does), you can show the accrual of skills in different areas, which ultimately proves you are an expert.

Template 7 of 13: Cyber Security Specialist Resume Example

A cyber security specialist is responsible for protecting the IT infrastructure. They perform vulnerability scanning to identify weaknesses in the system. Additionally, they create policies and educate employees, so they use computer hardware and software safely. As a cyber security specialist, you should have excellent testing skills and knowledge of antiviruses. Therefore, it is worth mentioning those skills on your resume.

   highlight your penetration testing skills..

Penetration testing is a cyber security technique used for detecting vulnerabilities in websites and computer systems. Basically, it simulates a cyber attack to evaluate how strong the IT infrastructure is against these vulnerabilities. It is a highly used skill in cyber security, so it’s definitely worth mentioning it in your resume.

Indicate your malware analysis and mitigation skills.

A cyber security specialist’s job doesn’t end with detecting vulnerabilities. They also need to implement solutions to protect the system. That’s why mitigation skills are so important in this role. Some cyber security analysts are also proficient at data recovery techniques which are used when data has been corrupted due to cyber attacks.

Skills you can include on your Cyber Security Specialist resume

Template 8 of 13: cyber security specialist resume example.

A cyber security specialist is integral to the creation of networks. They are less focused on training fellow employees for vulnerabilities and are more focused on system-wide security threats and incursions. As such, they are most important when a company is setting up their network in the first place. At first glance, this resume looks very similar to the third resume example. Both are great examples of employees with 10+ years experience and advanced degrees. However, this resume highlights the job seeker’s ability to work well within an organization. They highlight excellent technical skills, but also their ability to train employees within the company on new security threats.

Includes job title to work with ATS (applicant tracking system) filters.

Just like the skill box, including the job title that you’re seeking will help defeat ATS filters as you have a matching job title to the one you're applying to (i.e. cyber security specialist). As an exercise, it will also function as a way to focus the data you put on your resume. You use this as the topic, and make sure that all data concretely supports this job title and experience.

In older job roles, only includes the most impressive examples of job performance.

When you’ve been in your current job role as long as this person has (approximately nine years), you should focus most of your time and attention on what you’ve done in that role. Absolutely, your previous job experience matters, but you should keep only a few of the best examples of how you succeeded in those roles. Old cyber security achievements also often become out of date so prioritize your more recent achievements.

Template 9 of 13: Entry Level Cyber Security Analyst Resume Example

As an entry-level cybersecurity analyst, you'd be expected to monitor and protect an organization's computer systems and networks from potential threats. With the increasing number of cyber attacks and data breaches, this role is crucial in maintaining the company's security and reputation. When crafting your resume, it's essential to showcase your skills and knowledge in information security, as well as your ability to adapt to new technologies and industry trends. A successful resume for this role should demonstrate your relevant coursework, internships, or certifications and highlight your problem-solving skills. Employers often value practical experience, so include examples of projects you've been involved in and illuminate how they helped you develop your cybersecurity skills.

Template 10 of 13: entry level cyber security analyst resume example.

An entry-level cyber security professional has not specialized in any of the above career roles, of course. Often they come from a computer science background, though some programs are starting to offer cyber security-specific degrees. As this is an entry-level resume, it’s entirely appropriate that the educational experience is listed first. However, this resume also lists excellent hands-on experience in both cyber security internships and volunteer projects as well as extra curricular activities. The skills section also rounds out experience with skills that aren’t necessarily related, but could certainly be useful (i.e. language skills). Most of all as an entry-level professional, you want to show that you have been eager to learn and apply yourself to the cyber security industry.

Add university projects to bolster relevant technical/security experience.

While you may have limited professional experience, there are several ways you can demonstrate your interest in and growth in your intended career. Even if you feel the experience isn’t as technical as you’d like -- in this case, they started a cyber security-related society -- it shows your motivation to integrate with the cyber security community. (Hopefully that networking leads you to some job prospects as well!)

Highlights leadership roles in extracurricular activities.

As above, showing that you’ve not only joined organizations but attempted to gain leadership in those organizations shows your motivation to get involved in the cyber security community. You also demonstrate that, in addition to technical skills, you’re looking to develop your leadership and team-building skills over time.

Template 11 of 13: Junior Cyber Security Analyst Resume Example

A junior cyber security analyst is tasked with maintaining the security of a company’s network. Tasks you can expect include identifying points of risk or weakness in the system, creating threat protocols, monitoring the company’s networks, and updating the company’s firewall. To succeed in this role you need to have a very good understanding of IT and cyber security. Recruiters will be looking to see a degree in a related field or certifications in the same. As this is normally an entry-level position, you can expect to work under a senior cyber security analyst, so good communication and interpersonal skills will also be expected. Being able to show recruiters, in your experience section, that you are experienced in working with teams, will also be very beneficial to your resume. Here is a successful resume sample.

A junior cyber security analyst resume sample that highlights the applicant’s qualifications and skills.

Tips to help you write your Junior Cyber Security Analyst resume in 2024

use cyber security keywords throughout your resume..

Your resume needs to read like it belongs to someone well-versed in all things cyber security. An effective way to do this is by using cybersecurity keywords. Examples of these keywords include ‘intrusion detection system’, ‘virus’, and ‘authentication infrastructure’. Take a look at the keywords this applicant has used in their resume.

Template 12 of 13: junior cyber security analyst resume example.

A junior cyber security analyst is someone who protects a company’s networks, hardware, and software from dangerous cyber-attacks. In this role, you will support the cybersecurity team with several tasks, like monitoring the networks for potential threats, updating software, implementing firewalls and encryption methods, and educating employees about how to keep their online data secure. To get a job as a junior cyber security analyst, you’ll need strong technical skills and a sense of curiosity about how technology — and particularly cyber security — works. Most recruiters and hiring managers often look for this technical skill set in your past roles, so, like in the following example, include any IT-related experiences or educational background in your resume. Any additional certifications or courses related to cyber security will also look great for the role.

Skills you can include on your Cyber Security Intern resume

We spoke with hiring managers from top cybersecurity companies like Symantec, McAfee, and Palo Alto Networks to get their insider tips on what makes a strong cyber security resume. Here's what they shared:

   Highlight your technical skills

Hiring managers want to see the specific technical skills you bring to the table. Instead of simply listing the skills, show how you've applied them.

  • Conducted penetration testing using Kali Linux to identify vulnerabilities in client systems
  • Configured and maintained Cisco ASA firewalls to protect company network
  • Developed Python scripts to automate security tasks and improve efficiency

Avoid being too general or vague, like this:

  • Familiar with various security tools
  • Knowledge of programming languages

Bullet Point Samples for Cyber Security

   Show your impact with metrics

Quantify your achievements to show the impact you've made in previous roles. This helps hiring managers understand the scope of your work.

  • Implemented security measures that reduced data breaches by 40%
  • Managed security for a network of 1,000+ devices
  • Responded to and resolved 50+ security incidents per month

Compare that to generic statements without any context:

  • Improved security posture
  • Handled security incidents

   Demonstrate your problem-solving abilities

Cybersecurity professionals need to think critically and solve complex problems. Use your resume to showcase your problem-solving skills in action.

Spearheaded a project to implement a new SIEM system. Analyzed the company's security needs, evaluated various solutions, and successfully deployed the chosen system, improving our ability to detect and respond to threats.

Focus on the thought process behind your actions, not just the end result.

   Include relevant certifications

In the cybersecurity field, certifications hold a lot of weight. They show that you have the knowledge and skills needed for the job. Some top certifications to include:

  • CompTIA Security+
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)

Make sure to list the full name of the certification and the year you earned it.

Tailor your resume to the job description

Each cybersecurity job is unique, so it's important to customize your resume for each application. Look for key skills and requirements in the job description and make sure to highlight those on your resume.

For example, if the job heavily emphasizes cloud security, focus on your experience with:

  • Securing AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments
  • Implementing cloud access control policies
  • Monitoring for threats in the cloud

Leave out less relevant details to keep the focus on what matters most for that specific job.

   Showcase your communication skills

Cybersecurity isn't just about technical skills. You also need to be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. Demonstrate your communication abilities through examples like:

  • Created and delivered security awareness training to employees
  • Presented findings from security audits to executive leadership
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to implement security solutions

Avoid using too much technical jargon or acronyms that might confuse the reader. Instead, explain concepts in clear, concise language that anyone can understand.

Writing Your Cyber Security Resume: Section By Section

header, 1. include your name, email, and phone number.

Your header should always include your full name, professional email address, and phone number. This allows hiring managers to easily identify and contact you.

Here's a good example of a header format:

  • [email protected] | 123-456-7890

Avoid using unprofessional email addresses like:

  • [email protected]

2. Include a link to your LinkedIn profile

In today's digital age, having a strong LinkedIn presence is crucial for cyber security professionals. Include a link to your LinkedIn profile in your header to make it easy for hiring managers to learn more about you and your experience.

Here's an example of how to format your LinkedIn URL in your header:

  • linkedin.com/in/johndoe

3. Consider including your security clearance

If you have an active security clearance, consider including it in your header. Many cyber security roles require a certain level of clearance, so highlighting yours upfront can help you stand out to hiring managers.

John Doe [email protected] | 123-456-7890 linkedin.com/in/johndoe Security Clearance: Top Secret/SCI

However, avoid including your clearance if it's not relevant to the role you're applying for. For example:

  • Security Clearance: Confidential (for a role that requires Top Secret)

  Summary

A resume summary for a cyber security professional is an optional section that provides a brief overview of your qualifications, experience, and career goals. While a summary is not required, it can be a valuable addition to your resume if you have extensive experience in the field or are making a career transition. However, it's important to avoid using an objective statement, as they are outdated and not effective in today's job market.

When writing your cyber security resume summary, focus on highlighting your most relevant skills, certifications, and achievements. Use specific examples and metrics to demonstrate your value to potential employers. Keep your summary concise and tailored to the job you're applying for.

To learn how to write an effective resume summary for your Cyber Security resume, or figure out if you need one, please read Cyber Security Resume Summary Examples , or Cyber Security Resume Objective Examples .

1. Highlight your expertise and specializations

In your cyber security resume summary, emphasize your specific areas of expertise and specializations. This helps employers quickly understand your strengths and how you can contribute to their organization. For example:

  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) with 5+ years of experience in network security, vulnerability assessments, and incident response.
  • Cybersecurity analyst specializing in threat detection, malware analysis, and security automation using tools like Splunk and Ansible.

Avoid generic statements that lack specificity, such as:

  • Experienced cyber security professional seeking a challenging role.
  • Skilled in various aspects of cyber security.

2. Quantify your achievements with metrics

To make your cyber security resume summary more impactful, include quantifiable achievements that demonstrate your value. Use metrics to showcase the scope and impact of your work, such as:

  • Implemented a comprehensive security awareness training program, reducing phishing incidents by 60% across a 500-employee organization.
  • Conducted over 100 penetration tests and identified critical vulnerabilities in web applications, resulting in a 95% remediation rate.

Avoid vague statements that don't provide concrete evidence of your accomplishments, like:

  • Improved the company's security posture.
  • Identified and resolved numerous security issues.

3. Tailor your summary to the job description

To increase your chances of passing applicant tracking systems (ATS) and catching the attention of hiring managers, tailor your cyber security resume summary to the specific job you're applying for. Incorporate keywords and phrases from the job description, while ensuring your summary still reads naturally. For example:

Results-driven cybersecurity analyst with 3+ years of experience in SOC operations, SIEM management, and incident response. Proficient in using Splunk, QRadar, and ELK stack to monitor, detect, and respond to security threats. Seeking to leverage my expertise to protect XYZ Company's critical assets and enhance its security operations.

Avoid using a generic, one-size-fits-all summary that doesn't address the specific requirements of the job, such as:

Cybersecurity professional with experience in various security domains. Skilled in multiple tools and technologies. Looking for a challenging role in a dynamic organization.

  Experience

Your work experience section is the heart of your cyber security resume. It's where you'll highlight your most relevant and impressive cyber security experiences. Aim to tailor your bullet points to the job description, and focus on showcasing your impact and results.

1. Highlight your cyber security achievements

Instead of just listing your day-to-day responsibilities, focus on your key achievements in each role. Whenever possible, quantify your impact with metrics.

Compare these two bullet points:

  • Responsible for conducting vulnerability assessments and penetration testing
  • Conducted 50+ vulnerability assessments and penetration tests, identifying and remediating 100% of critical vulnerabilities before production deployment

The second bullet point is much stronger because it uses specific numbers to convey the scale and impact of the work.

Not sure if your bullet points are conveying your true impact? Try running your resume through Score My Resume . It'll analyze your resume on key criteria that hiring managers care about, like use of metrics and active language.

2. Showcase your technical skills

Hiring managers want to see that you have the technical chops for the job. Make sure to weave in mentions of the specific cyber security tools, technologies, and methodologies you've used.

Here are a few examples:

  • Expertise in security tools such as Nessus, Burp Suite, Wireshark, and Metasploit
  • Proficient in SIEM tools including Splunk and IBM QRadar
  • Experience with OWASP Top 10, NIST 800-53, and CIS Top 20 security frameworks

Just be sure to tie your technical skills back to your achievements and impact. Avoid just listing skills without context.

Want to be sure your resume highlights the right technical skills for each job? Try our Targeted Resume tool. It analyzes your resume against a job description to ensure you have the skills and keywords employers are looking for.

3. Demonstrate your communication skills

Cyber security professionals often need to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Use your bullet points to show that you have this key skill.

For example:

  • Presented quarterly security updates to executive leadership, translating technical risks into business impact
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to implement security controls, ensuring alignment between security, IT, and business objectives

Notice how these bullets showcase the ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse audiences.

Remember, the best cyber security professionals are not just technical experts, but also effective communicators and collaborators. Highlighting your soft skills can help you stand out from other applicants.

4. Highlight any security certifications

Security certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or CISM, can be powerful trust signals on your resume. If you have any relevant certifications, be sure to mention them in your work experience bullets.

For instance:

Utilized knowledge gained from CISSP certification to lead a company-wide security awareness training program, reducing phishing click rates by 50%

This bullet not only mentions the CISSP certification, but also ties it to a concrete achievement, making it even more impactful.

If you don't yet have any security certifications, consider pursuing one that aligns with your career goals. Many employers will even sponsor certification training for strong candidates.

  Education

Your education section is a key part of your cyber security resume. It shows hiring managers that you have the knowledge and training required for the job. Here are some tips to make sure your education section is effective and helps you stand out:

1. Put your degree first

If you have a degree related to cyber security, make sure to list it first in your education section. This could be a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, or a similar field.

Here's an example of how to format your degree:

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science University of XYZ, City, State Graduation Date: May 2020

If you have multiple degrees, list them in reverse chronological order, with the most recent one first.

2. Include relevant coursework

If you're a recent graduate or have taken courses specifically related to cyber security, consider listing them under your degree. This can help showcase your expertise and training.

  • Courses: Network Security, Cryptography, Ethical Hacking, Computer Forensics

However, avoid listing basic or irrelevant courses like this:

  • Courses: Introduction to Programming, English 101, Art History

3. Highlight your certifications

Certifications are highly valued in the cyber security field. If you have any, make sure to include them in your education section. Some common ones are:

List the full name of the certification, the issuing organization, and the date you earned it. For example:

CompTIA Security+ Certification CompTIA, June 2021

4. Keep it brief for senior roles

If you're a senior-level cyber security professional with many years of experience, your education section should be brief. Hiring managers will be more interested in your work history and accomplishments.

Here's an example of what to avoid:

Master of Science in Information Technology ABC University, City, State Graduation Date: May 2005 Courses: Data Structures, Algorithms, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Database Management GPA: 3.8/4.0

Instead, keep it short and simple like this:

M.S. Information Technology, ABC University

I had a clear uptick in responses after using your template. I got many compliments on it from senior hiring staff, and my resume scored way higher when I ran it through ATS resume scanners because it was more readable. Thank you!

Sample Athletic Resumes/Player Profile Templates with Recruiting Guides

Resume/player profile template and/or letter only.

And yes, you should have an  athletic resume . If for no other reason, having the resume will allow you to easily complete all of the online player profiles teams require prospects to submit. This way the information will be all in one place.

The following is a list of resources I’ve found and actually opened and looked at. I’ve divided them into two sections, the first has some sort of substantial additional recruiting information along with the samples. The second section includes just sample letters and resume or player profile templates.

With the exception of the first two documents, they are in no particular order. The resources in the samples only section aren’t any better or worse than those that provide some sort of guide as well. In fact, I’ve included some even if I didn’t think they were so great (and indicate such) so you might only open these to use for comparison purposes.

I didn’t include just one best because sometimes you’ll find the best solution for you is to use a little something from a variety of sources. For all of these sources, be sure to double-check with the  NCAA  and  NAIA  for the latest information since very few of these guides are updated on a regular basis. This is especially important given the continuing changing test requirements.

The College Planning Guide for Student Athletes is no longer being updated by the New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation Network. This is one resource I have always recommend everyone download. Unfortunately, its replacement,  The College Insider Series: Student Athletes  isn’t nearly as good. The new version includes a sample player profile template and cover letter along with an overview of the different NCAA divisions.

But it’s missing the information on the percentage of athletes going pro. There used to be a sample in-season Division 1 athlete schedule to show the time commitment required. It still includes valuable information and is worth downloading but it’s just not as good as the original. So I’m keeping a  link  to the original for a while until I think the extra information isn’t worth the inclusion of possible outdated information.

This year it was actually difficult to select among the various guides since there are some very detailed ones available. While all covered pretty much the same information, they each had their individual strengths. Since this is about finding the athletic resumes and player profiles, I decided to go with the one with the examples I liked best.

My current choice of if you’re only going to download one item is Chippewa Hills High School’s   Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete.

The Chippewa Hill’s guide includes a description of what should be included on the athletic resume along with its purpose. The athletic resume template is clean and well organized and the sample email/letter is concise and to the point. You’ll also find a timeline for high school athletes; a breakdown of roles and responsibilities for students, parents, counselors, and coaches; and the NCAA table showing the estimated probability of competing beyond the high school level.

One thing to pay attention to is that it lists the NCAA approved courses for its own school. You should check with your own school for its  NCAA  list of approved courses. Another thing to be aware of is that eligibility information is outdated. Everyone’s going to be since it was only 2023 that the NCAA dropped the test requirements permanently. The download link is just past the middle of the page under Other Information.

South Windsor Public Schools  A College Admissions Guide for the Student Athlete .  Very comprehensive guide with two of each letter and resume examples. Also includes words of wisdom from some of the high school coaches from various sports as well as a section on selecting a college and financial aid considerations.

St. Ignatius College Prep  Planning Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete . Comprehensive guide that includes a checklist grid you can use for tracking your recruiting contacts with colleges. Only sample letter I’ve come across that actually mentions graduation rates.

Lakeside School  Athletic Recruiting FAQS . Short guide but includes a funnel on how a student becomes a top recruit along with an athletic resume template and two examples of good emails and two examples of bad emails.

San Marcos College Soccer  College Soccer Recruitment Guide for Parents and Players . This guide is available from several different soccer websites. It includes two sample letters and one sample player profile. It has a nice section addressed to parents covering financial aid and amateurism.

St. Joseph School District  Athletes and the College Recruiting Process: A Handbook for the Students and Their Families .  This is an 18-page guide that includes timelines, checklists, definitions of NCAA & NAIA, along with a sample email and resume. Pay attention to the differences between “Blue Chip Athletes” and “Most Athletes.”

Forman School’s  Planning Guide for the College Bound Student-Athlete .  Along with a sample player profile and coach email, it lists sport specific information to include in the athletic resume. You’ll also find a recruiting glossary and frequently asked questions.

High School District 214  Student-Athlete College Handbook .  It also has information on Qualifer Status, Walk-Ons, and Education-Impacting Disabilities. It contains one sample letter but it never mentions the college the student is interested in. Pretty standard resume but doesn’t include any sports related stats which is probably a mistake.

The Athletic Factory Planning Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete. I’m not impressed with the sample resume but it’s the only guide that shows the actual number of teams sponsored by sport. Also includes the NCAA recruiting calendar which lets you know when coaches can contact you. This can change yearly so you need to double check with the NCAA.

Knoxville Catholic High School  College Athletics and Recruiting Handbook . Detailed description of the recruiting process. Provides numbers of players who make it to the next level and what it means when a coach contacts you. Includes a sample letter, sample athletic resume, sample follow-up letter, and statistics by sport. Dated from 2011.

Collegiate Soccer Academy  Soccer Resume .  Only player profile template I’ve seen that includes a link to a video setup as an image so that it looks embedded. Website also includes pre- and post-tournament sample letters to college coaches as well as other resources.

Weston High School  A guide for High School Student Athletes and Parents . General tips as well as what to do year by year. Includes a glossary of terms and sample resumes for individual and team sports.

HS Baseball Web  The Introduction Letter . A basic sample geared for baseball players. However, the website includes a “Schedule” letter as well as an unscientific poll as to whether coaches prefer emails or letter.

NCSA  How to Create a College Recruiting Resume .  You’ll find how to write an introduction, what academic information to include as well as specific information for football, basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and softball.

Orinda Aquatics Sports Resume, Cover Letter & Correspondence.  Word document that has a sample athletic resume, coaches letter, and samples of other letters to keep the coach updated including a thank you letter.

Campolindo High School  Sample Student-Athlete Resume . Nothing special but some might find the sample letter useful.

South Carolina United FC  College Recruiting Support . Includes sample player profiles and emails/letters. The webpage also has a yearly to do list and questions to ask a college coach.

San Diego Mustangs Rugby  Sample Rugby Recruit Athlete Resume.  Another sample resume but with a Rugby perspective. The website does include Top U.C. and CSC application mistakes that may not apply to your situation but are something you should check on just in case.

National High School Golf Association  Good and bad examples of a college golf resume .  PDF examples of a “good” and “bad” resume. While the stats are for golf, it shows how to format your general information into a working athletic resume.

Broomfield Soccer Club  Player Profile Template.   Simple, easy to modify player profile template in Word format.

Lake Norman Lightning Player Profile Template . Another easy-to-use template in Word format but with a softball orientation.

NCSA How to Email College Coaches . This is a comprehensive explanation on emailing a coach including sample subject lines, a breakdown of the email content by sections, and sample emails.

Athlete Match  Sample Emails . Introduction and follow-up email templates with an explanation of why they work.

USA Today Recruiting Column:  How to get your first email noticed by college coaches .  Critique of a good and a bad email to a coach.

Exact Sports  Sample Letters from Athletes to College Coaches .  Provides 2 good samples and 2 bad samples, an initial letter, and a follow up.

CollegeHockeyInc.com  10 Steps to a Great Hockey Resume.  Lists needed elements for the athletic resume as well as a sample resume.

Her success on the independent circuit led to her signing at WWE.

WWE Mae Young Classic (2017–2018)

In 2017, Ripley debuted in WWE at the Mae Young Classic but was knocked out by Dakota Kai in the second round. She reached the semi-finals a year later, however, her performances introduced her to WWE's audience, leading to her rise up the WWE ranks. It was here that she began showcasing a powerful and intense style that would define her persona.

Rhea Ripley

Inaugural NXT UK Women's Champion (2018–2019)

Ripley became the first NXT UK Women's Champion in 2018, defeating Toni Storm in the tournament final, making her the first Australian champion in WWE history. She successfully defended the title before losing it to Storm in 2019. Despite the loss, Ripley's dominance established her as a major force, leading to her transition from NXT UK to the NXT brand.

NXT Women's Champion (2019–2021)

In 2019, Rhea Ripley won the NXT Women's Championship by defeating Shayna Baszler. She became the first wrestler to hold both the NXT UK and NXT Women's Champion titles. Her reign withstood defenses against top competitors, but ended at WrestleMania 36, losing to Charlotte Flair. Ripley continued to thrive in NXT until 2021 when she moved to WWE's main roster .

At WrestleMania 39, she then defeated Charlotte Flair to become SmackDown Women's Champion. Ripley defended her title on numerous occasions, defeating Becky Lynch, Nia Jax, Ivy Nile, and others.

Weekend rundown: Here's the biggest news you missed this weekend

Missing revealed as divers search superyacht that sank in storm off Sicily

ROME — Rescue teams and divers were searching Tuesday for six missing people, including a British tech magnate and a Morgan Stanley boss, after a luxury superyacht sank in a storm off Sicily .

The identity of those still missing emerged after an initial search of the 184-foot sailboat, named the Bayesian, was unsuccessful Monday. The British-flagged tourist vessel had 22 people aboard when it sank because of “a violent storm” off Sicily’s main city, Palermo, around 5 a.m. local time (11 p.m. ET) on Monday, the local coast guard said.

Newly released video shows the moment the vessel suddenly sank after being battered by the storm. In the video, the 250-foot mast, which was lit up and lashed by the storm, appears to bend to one side before it disappears and is replaced by darkness.

The grainy images obtained by NBC News and other outlets were recorded on closed-circuit television not far from where the Bayesian was anchored.

Fifteen people were rescued by a boat present in the immediate vicinity and then brought ashore by coast guard vessels, but six passengers, including American, British and Canadian citizens, remained missing, it said. They were believed to be trapped in the boat's hull, some 164 feet underwater, posing a challenge to divers who returned Tuesday to the site off Porticello, near Palermo.

Salvatore Cocina, director of Sicily’s Civil Protection Agency, told NBC News that the missing include British tech magnate Mike Lynch and his daughter, Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife.

Cocina did not specify the nationalities of the missing. He also did not identify Lynch's daughter or the wives of Bloomer and Morvillo.

A spokesperson for Clifford Chance, where Morvillo works as a lawyer, confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday that he and his wife, Neda, were among the missing.

Aki Hussain, chief executive officer of U.K. insurance company Hiscox, where Bloomer is a nonexecutive chairman, confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday that Bloomer and his wife, Judy, were missing.

Missing tourists after Italy boat sank off the coast of Palermo

Italy’s national fire department said that its divers were able to get inside the wreck during a late-night dive Monday, inspecting some cabins under the bridge, but were having trouble navigating because of obstructions and narrow access gates. One of those obstructions was reported to have been caused by furniture from the cabins that moved during the storm that struck the ship early Monday.

Rescuers said that there might be bodies inside the cabins, especially considering the timing of the storm, but that they had so far been unable to check through the ship’s portholes.

Divers were forced to work in 12-minute underwater search shifts because of the depth, while surface searches continued in the area of the shipwreck with a helicopter and a fire brigade boat, it added.

Mike Lynch, who was regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was cleared of fraud charges in a blockbuster U.S. trial earlier this summer. Sources told CNBC on Monday that his wife, Angela Bacares, has been rescued. Italian news agency ANSA identified his daughter, missing alongside her father, as Hannah, 18.

Just days earlier, Lynch's co-defendant, Stephen Chamberlain, died after being “fatally struck by a car” while out running Saturday, his lawyer Gary Lincenberg said in an emailed statement.

Divers operate in the sea to search for the missing after a luxury yacht sank off Sicily

The sailing vacation that ended in tragedy appeared to be something of a celebration after Lynch’s acquittal — Morvillo was one of Lynch’s U.S. lawyers and Bloomer testified in his defense.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event. Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our Chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing,” Hussain, the Hiscox CEO, said in an emailed statement.

A Morgan Stanley spokesperson also said: “Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular the Bloomer family, as we all wait for further news from this terrible situation.”

The Eve Appeal, a British cancer charity, described Judy Bloomer in an emailed statement as “a brilliant champion for women’s health and medical research.”

Britain's Marine Accident Investigation Branch said it was deploying a team of four inspectors to Palermo to conduct a preliminary assessment.

The coast guard said in a statement Monday that the ship’s cook had died. It did not give his nationality. Reuters identified him as Antiguan citizen Ricardo Thomas.

One of the survivors, identified as Charlotte Emsley, 35, told the Italian news agency ANSA that she had momentarily lost hold of her year-old daughter, Sofia, in the water but managed to retrieve her and hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were pulled to safety.

Italian rescue review blueprints of sunken yacht in photos released on Aug 19. 2024.

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered, Bayesian can carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites.

The yacht’s nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters.

Luca Mercalli, an Italian climatologist and president of the country’s meteorological society, told Reuters that the storm could have involved a waterspout, essentially a tornado over water, or a downburst, a more frequent phenomenon that doesn’t involve the rotation of the air.

Storms and heavy rainfall have swept Italy in recent days after weeks of scorching heat.

“The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), which is almost 3 degrees more than normal,” Mercalli said. “This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms.”

Claudio Lavanga reported from Rome and Yuliya Talmazan from London.

How JD Vance Found His Way to the Catholic Church

In his 30s, the Republican vice-presidential nominee read works on theology, mysticism, and political and moral philosophy. And he discovered his faith.

JD Vance, with his hand over his chest, stands at a podium.

By Elizabeth Dias

Elizabeth Dias, who has written about religion and politics for 15 years, reported from Cincinnati and Washington.

From his new home in Cincinnati, JD Vance would go to St. Gertrude to meet the friar.

It was a fitting place for the millennial aspiring politician, who was drawn to the Roman Catholic Church’s ancient ways. For years he had flirted with joining the church. Now he wanted to explore the desire in earnest.

St. Gertrude Church was led by the Dominican Friars from the Province of St. Joseph, part of a religious order founded in 1216. Its sanctuary smelled of incense but felt modern, its concrete walls pierced with bright stained-glass rectangles in reds and blues.

Mr. Vance would meet with Father Henry Stephan. For months, they read works of theology, mysticism, and political and moral philosophy. Sometimes they went to coffee or lunch. It was bespoke private instruction, a hallmark of Dominicans who are known for their lives of intellect and study.

Then, one summer day in 2019, Mr. Vance, then 35, returned to St. Gertrude, this time to be baptized and receive his first communion in the Dominicans’ private chapel. The friars hosted a celebratory reception for his family with doughnuts. He chose as his patron Saint Augustine, the political theologian whose fifth-century treatise “City of God ” challenged Rome’s ruling class and drew Mr. Vance to the faith.

“It was the best criticism of our modern age I’d ever read,” Mr. Vance later explained in a Catholic literary journal. “A society oriented entirely towards consumption and pleasure, spurning duty and virtue.”
