All regions

  • Students must remain enrolled full-time in the PhD program for the duration of the Fellowship or forfeit the award.
  • Google employees, and their spouses, children, and members of their household are not eligible.
  • Students that are already supported by a comparable industry award are not eligible. Government or non-profit organization funding is exempt.
  • Past awardees from the PhD Fellowship program are not eligible to apply again.
  • Grant of the Fellowship does not mean admission to a PhD program. The awardee must separately apply and be accepted to a PhD program in computer science (or an adjacent field) at an eligible institution.
  • Grant of the Fellowship will be subject to the rules and guidelines applicable in the institution where the awardee registers for the PhD program.

Nominated students in Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Canada and the United States, East Asia and Europe.

Universities should only nominate students that meet the following requirements:

  • Available transcripts (mark sheets) starting from first year/semester of Bachelor's degree to date

(A leadership role can mean more than just a title. It can mean being a mentor to others, acting as the person in charge of a specific task, or taking the lead role in organizing an event or project. Think about what you accomplished and what you learned from the experience. What were your responsibilities? Did you lead a team? How did your experience change your perspective on leading others? Did you help to resolve an important dispute at your school, church, in your community or an organization? And your leadership role doesn’t necessarily have to be limited to school activities. After filling in details about you and your educational background, you will be asked to upload your CV, latest transcript, and a motivational letter. The motivational letter is your chance to show us why you are a great fit for the Novo Nordisk Graduate Programme!

In the motivational letter please share with us

  • Your motivation – why do you want to join the pharmaceutical industry, Novo Nordisk, and the Graduate Programme
  • Your expectations – what are your expectations of the graduate programme and how will the programme support your career aspirations
  • Your fit – which personal and professional competences makes you a great fit for the programme

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an initial online or phone interview with the programme manager or a local HR representative. The candidates who are not invited for an interview will be notified by e-mail.

The candidates from 1st interview who are selected to continue in the recruitment, will be invited to the Graduate Recruitment Centre (GRC). The GRC is a virtual event, during which candidates are thoroughly assessed on a business case that simulates a real-life scenario. Feedback will be provided to the candidates who attended the GRC.

This is the final step in the recruitment process. After the Graduate Recruitment Centre, the final pool of candidates will be invited for a second interview. This interview will be competency-based, and the graduate programme positions will subsequently be offered to the selected candidates. Feedback will be provided to the candidates who attend final interview stage.

The Graduate Programme is a two-year, global career journey with a minimum of three rotations including at least one rotation outside your home country. The destination depends on the specific graduate programme track but it could for instance be in the Novo Nordisk Headquarters office in Copenhagen, Denmark, our International Operations (IO) Strategic Head Office in Zurich, an IO Regional Office or one of our many affiliates.

The Graduate Programme is Novo Nordisk’s flagship ‘Talent programme’. Many top leaders started their journey in Novo Nordisk as part of the graduate programme, including our CEO Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen.

The objective of having a Graduate Programme is to strengthen the pipeline of potential future leaders and specialists within Novo Nordisk, and to attract, recruit and retain young talents who will grow into key positions in the future.

This is done by selecting skilled and highly motivated graduates from global universities and advancing them through a demanding two-year programme; providing them with increasingly challenging tasks and a chance to develop a strong professional network.

Applications for graduate positions starting in September 2025 is possible from 1 November 2024 until 30 November 2024. Check out the different track presentations and find the relevant programme. Register your interest in our  Global Talent Hub  and sign up for our  Job Agent  to stay up to date about available internships and other relevant vacancies. Check out the current vacant positions for permanent positions  here and now .

During the recruitment period we usually have a live chat where you can get in touch with some of our current graduates. We also host a series of webinars providing key insights into our life-changing Graduate Programme.

You also have other opportunities to meet us. Join us online or in person at our upcoming events to hear more about life at Novo Nordisk and what it’s like to be a graduate. Find the Event calendar  here .

Check out our Graduate Programme Brochure on our website and find out which programme track best fits your study background and interests. Please note that you can apply for more than one programme track.

You are welcome to apply for more than one track. However, we recommend you to carefully consider which tracks you will apply for and your motivation for doing so. You will have to make an individual application for each programme track and we encourage you to only apply for the tracks that you would be truly excited to join.

No, our corporate language is English, so speaking Danish is definitely not a requirement.

Be yourself and share why Novo Nordisk is the company you want to work for. What motivates you and why do you think being a graduate could be amazing. We would like to know who YOU are.

Yes, as long as you plan to graduate within the same year that you are starting in a graduate position. It is also accepted if you have not received your official graduate diploma before starting in the Graduate Programme, as long as you have finished your studies and are just waiting for the official papers.

This position is designed as an entry-level role, and while many graduates join the program directly after their studies, we also consider candidates with up to one year of post-graduate experience.

Previous pharmaceutical work experience is not a requirement to apply for the programme. What is ‘relevant’ work or internship experience depends on which track you choose to apply for.

Yes, the Graduate Programme is a full-time position, and we offer a competitive entry level salary. The compensation and benefits package includes components such as pension and health insurance, based on local terms and is applicable to the country you are hired in.

Yes, all nationalities can apply to the programme. If selected, Novo Nordisk helps you secure your work visa.

While the Global tracks are anchored in our Global Headquarters located in Copenhagen, Denmark, the International Operations (IO) tracks are anchored in affiliates or regional offices around the world.

International Operations (IO) is the largest operational unit in Novo Nordisk and covers more than 190 countries. IO is split into seven regions, spread across every continent of the globe with a head office (IO Strategic Operations) based in Zurich, Switzerland.

If you need to relocate to Denmark to join the Graduate Programme, we can support you in finding a place to live. It will be in central Copenhagen with easy access to public transport and close to, or living with, other graduates. This is a great way of starting to build a network when living in a new country.

If you start in the International Operations Business, Finance or HR Programme track, you will need to be relocated if you are not a resident in the country. If you are a resident in the country you start your graduate journey in, then accommodation in the first rotation will be your full responsibility

For all programme tracks you will receive full support when going on your international rotation(s), so you won’t have to worry about the practicalities around the relocation process.

The number and length of the rotations vary according to the track you are in. In most tracks you will have three rotations of 8 months and in others you will have four rotations of six months.  At least one rotation will be international, not counting the country you start your graduate journey in. Please refer to the respective job ad for each track for further details.

You will join a host department as an equal member of the team. You will typically rotate in areas of the business where the Graduate Programme is well known and respected, where you are empowered by managers who trust you with key responsibilities and exciting tasks; expecting you to deliver high quality, whilst continuously keeping your development in focus.

There is no fixed plan for your international rotation(s) when you join the Graduate Programme. Depending on factors such as business needs, available projects, and especially your professional and personal development, the Programme Managers will make sure to find a rotation for you that allows you to learn, develop and contribute in one of our 80 offices worldwide.

There are plenty of people in the organisation who are ready to help and guide you during the Graduate Programme. As a graduate you will have a Programme Manager who will guide and mentor you during the full two years of the programme. In each rotation you will also have a host manager who will support you in your daily work and throughout the six to eight months in their department. In addition, we also have a strong graduate network in Novo Nordisk, consisting of both current and former graduates who are always ready to offer advice.

The programme is designed to prepare you for a career in Novo Nordisk, hence the programme management will support you in finding a position in the company. In the IO Business programme track you are expected to take up a position in your home country or region after the programme.

Interested candidates will have the opportunity to speak with Novo Nordisk representatives to discuss career aspirations, gain insight into the organization and ask questions. Come find us at one of the many events we attend throughout the year!

Psychology Graduate Program

  • Psychology Department

The Clinical Psychology Program adheres to a clinical science model of training, and is a member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science.  We are committed to training clinical psychologists whose research advances scientific knowledge of psychopathology and its treatment, and who are capable of applying evidence-based methods of assessment and clinical intervention. The main emphasis of the program is research, especially on severe psychopathology. The program includes research, course work, and clinical practica, and usually takes five years to complete. Students typically complete assessment and treatment practica during their second and third years in the program, and they must fulfill all departmental requirements prior to beginning their one-year internship. The curriculum meets the requirements for licensure in Massachusetts, accreditation requirements of the American Psychological Association (APA; Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation, American Psychological Association, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242, [email protected] , Tel. [202] 336-5979), and accreditation requirements of the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS). PCSAS re-accredited the program on December 15, 2022 for a 10-year term. APA most recently accredited the program on April 28, 2015 for a seven-year term, which was extended due to COVID-related delays.

Requirements

Required courses and training experiences fulfill requirements for clinical psychology licensure in Massachusetts as well as meet APA criteria for the accreditation of clinical psychology programs.  In addition to these courses, further training experiences are required in accordance with the American Psychological Association’s guidelines for the accreditation of clinical psychology programs (e.g., clinical practica [e.g., PSY 3050 Clinical Practicum, PSY 3080 Practicum in Neuropsychological Assessment]; clinical internship).

Students in the clinical psychology program are required to take the following courses:

  • PSY 3900 Professional Ethics
  • PSY 2445 Psychotherapy Research
  • PSY 2070 Psychometric Theory and Method Using R
  • PSY 2430 Cultural, Racial, and Ethnic Bases of Behavior
  • PSY 3250 Psychological Testing
  • PSY 2050 History of Psychology
  • PSY 1951 Intermediate Quantitative Methods
  • PSY 1952 Multivariate Analysis in Psychology
  • PSY 2040 Contemporary Topics in Psychopathology
  • PSY 2460 Diagnostic Interviewing
  • PSY 2420 Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Psychological Disorders

Clinical students must also take one course in each of the following substantive areas: biological bases of behavior (e.g., PSY 1202 Modern Neuroanatomy; PSY 1325 The Emotional, Social Brain; PSY 1355 The Adolescent Brain; PSY 1702 The Emotional Mind); social bases of behavior (e.g., PSY 2500 Proseminar in Social Psychology); cognitive-affective bases of behavior (e.g., PSY 2400 Cognitive Psychology and Emotional Disorders); and individual differences (Required course PSY 2040 Contemporary Topics in Psychopathology fulfills the individual differences requirement for Massachusetts licensure). In accordance with American Psychological Association guidelines for the accreditation of clinical psychology programs, clinical students also receive consultation and supervision within the context of clinical practica in psychological assessment and treatment beginning in their second semester of their first year and running through their third year. They receive further exposure to additional topics (e.g., human development) in the Developmental Psychopathology seminar and in the twice-monthly clinical psychology “brown bag” speaker series. Finally, students complete a year-long clinical internship. Students are responsible for making sure that they take courses in all the relevant and required areas listed above. Students wishing to substitute one required course for another should seek advice from their advisor and from the director of clinical training prior to registering. During the first year, students are advised to get in as many requirements as possible. Many requirements can be completed before the deadlines stated below. First-year project:  Under the guidance of a faculty member who serves as a mentor, students participate in a research project and write a formal report on their research progress. Due by May of first year. Second-year project:  Original research project leading to a written report in the style of an APA journal article. A ten-minute oral presentation is also required. Due by May of second year. General exam:  A six-hour exam covering the literature of the field. To be taken in September before the start of the third year. Thesis prospectus:  A written description of the research proposed must be approved by a prospectus committee appointed by the CHD. Due at the beginning of the fourth year. Thesis and oral defense:  Ordinarily this would be completed by the end of the fourth year. Clinical internship:  Ordinarily this would occur in the fifth year. Students must have completed their thesis research prior to going on internship.

Credit for Prior Graduate Work

A PhD student who has completed at least one full term of satisfactory work in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences may file an application at the Registrar’s Office requesting that work done in a graduate program elsewhere be counted toward the academic residence requirement. Forms are available  online .

No more than the equivalent of eight half-courses may be so counted for the PhD.

An application for academic credit for work done elsewhere must contain a list of the courses, with grades, for which the student is seeking credit, and must be approved by the student’s department. In order for credit to be granted, official transcripts showing the courses for which credit is sought must be submitted to the registrar, unless they are already on file with the Graduate School. No guarantee is given in advance that such an application will be granted.

Only courses taken in a Harvard AB-AM or AB-SM program, in Harvard Summer School, as a GSAS Special Student or FAS courses taken as an employee under the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) may be counted toward the minimum academic residence requirements for a Master’s degree.

Academic and financial credit for courses taken as a GSAS Special Student or FAS courses taken as a Harvard employee prior to admission to a degree program may be granted for a maximum of four half-courses toward a one-year Master’s and eight half-courses toward a two-year Master’s or the PhD degree.

Applications for academic and financial credit must be approved by the student’s department and should then be submitted to the Registrar’s Office.

Graduate Program

The Microbiology Graduate PhD Program is an MIT-wide program that is designed to provide students with broad exposure to modern areas of microbiology and depth in the chosen area of thesis work.

There are more than 50 faculty in 10 different departments and divisions that study microbes. Graduate students admitted to the program will join a vibrant, thriving microbiology community on the MIT campus and will receive training in a broad range of areas in microbiology.

The major components of the training program are described in in this section, along with information on life as a graduate student at MIT.

“Is the MIT Microbiology Graduate Program the right program for me?”

This is a question we often hear, especially if applicants are considering or applying to other departments within MIT.  As you can see from our website, we have over 60 faculty from over 10 different departments participating in the Microbiology Graduate Program.

One way to help you decide where best to apply is for you to determine whether all, or almost all, of the faculty in whose research you are interested are in one department.  If that is the case, applying to that individual department would be more appropriate.  If you are equally interested in faculty and labs from different departments, then a program like MIT Microbiology can provide you the flexibility to bridge different departments and disciplines, both in your coursework and your research.

PhD Limbo – Caught Between Two Worlds

phd limbo2 scaled

PhD limbo occurs because students are turned away from graduate schemes for being too experienced, yet aren’t experienced enough for industry.

When a PhD student chooses to leave academia and pursue a career in a non-academic sector, identifying what kinds of jobs they can apply for is high among their list of concerns. Caught between two worlds, how can you best find roles you are suited to?

1. Do your research

Many PhD students apply for graduate programmes because they don’t know what else to apply for. Some of these are not suitable for PhD students, so spending time writing an application for them is pointless. Conversely, some will accept PhD students – but likely with the caveat of starting on the same salary as someone who has just completed their undergraduate degree. Spend time finding out who these graduate schemes are built for and you’ll save yourself a lot of time in PhD limbo.

2. Broaden your search

Don’t restrict yourself to employers who appear in the Times Top 100 list or similar publications. There are countless companies out there, many of which would be keen to harness the knowledge of a PhD student . Think about SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) – they may not have the budget to advertise all their roles, so a speculative application or preliminary phonecall to a recruitment manager can open doors.

3. Be willing to compromise

Your PhD is likely to have been focused in a specific area, perhaps one which is quite niche. It’s possible that few organisations outside of academic really focus on that area – so be prepared to explore themes and employment that is not necessarily directly connected to your PhD, but relatable in the skills and knowledge required to do the job eg lab techniques or qualitative analysis experience.

4. Talk to people

Your PhD supervisor or other academics may have some non-academic contacts they can put you in touch with. Similarly, you should be aiming to build up some contacts of your own through conferences and other events such as careers fairs. You should also consider meeting a Careers Adviser for a one-to-one guidance meeting to discuss your options.

5. Professional development

Don’t assume that your PhD gives you all the skills for a non-academic career. Think about developing some wider skills, either through university support services (several run workshops to develop employability skills ) or other courses, such as MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) – providers include Coursera, Udacity and FutureLearn.

Above all else, patience is the key. Searching for, applying and securing employment can be frustrating and takes time, but giving yourself time to do all this invariably proves more successful than blasting out seven applications at once. Never be afraid to take a break, either – sometimes the best research is done after you’ve cleared your head for a day.

Alex Nelson

Jobs and finance writer

  • Supermarket Aldi runs a graduate scheme for leadership roles
  • The scheme offers a fast-track path to management, with participants often starting as Area Managers
  • Meg Henesy, an Area Manager overseeing Warrington stores, gives us an inside look at what it's like to work at Aldi
  • She shares insights into her experiences, from the training process to the unique opportunities available

Just a couple of weeks ago, we shared the news that Aldi was opening its apprenticeship scheme , and inviting young people to explore roles across their stores and warehouses, and as HGV drivers.

But the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket also runs a graduate scheme , a fast-track management programme designed to prepare recent graduates for leadership roles within the company.

Participants in the scheme typically start as Area Managers, overseeing multiple stores and gaining hands-on experience in operations, team management and decision-making.

But what is it really like to take part in the programme, and what happens behind the scenes of your local Aldi store?

Meg Henesy, an Area Manager overseeing Aldi stores in Warrington, began her career with the supermarket through the programme in July 2023.

With her in-depth understanding of working at Aldi, from their competitive pay to the various perks available, here she shares her insights on what it's really like to be part of the supermarket’s graduate scheme.

What is the salary like for the graduate scheme at Aldi?

“Aldi’s store colleagues get the best hourly rates in the sector, but the Graduate Area Manager Scheme is also one of the highest-paying graduate jobs in Britain with the salaries starting from £50,000 for the first year.

“Last year, Aldi also introduced its year eight banding, meaning salaries rise to £94,240 when we ‘turn eight’ on our Aldi-versary.

“Unlike other graduate schemes where pay is capped after a few years, this new banding means that Area Managers like myself feel appreciated and aim to have a long career at the supermarket.”

What sort of roles and responsibilities do you have?

“In the first year, as a Graduate Area Manager, you rotate around different areas of the business to understand how the company works.

“This includes approximately three months working on the shop floor and by the sixth month, you are running a store with the support of others.

“As graduates, we also get training in areas such as HR and the financial side of the business before finally stepping into the role of Area Manager.

“There are so many different avenues available to graduates and many of Aldi’s directors - including our CEO, Giles Hurley – started as an Area Manager!”

Does the year entail a lot of training?

“You can attend ongoing workshops and enrol on a variety of courses, ranging from employment law to presentation skills and leadership behaviours, to help with any knowledge gaps you may have.

“You are also provided with a 12-month training plan as well as being assigned a mentor. This is beneficial as it provides information on what you’ll be learning and the colleagues you’ll get to spend time with.

“External companies also come in to do courses on all sorts of subjects and Aldi have recently partnered with LinkedIn for LinkedIn Learning, so graduates also get a minimum of one hour a week to learn something new as part of their personal development.

“Aldi is always looking for ways to better support its colleagues. In 2023 alone, Aldi organised over 800 training courses, benefitting more than 8,000 team members!”

What other perks and benefits do you get?

“Colleague wellbeing is a top priority at Aldi and there are some fantastic perks that come with the job.

“Through the scheme, graduates can get their very own fully expensed company car, as well as access to private healthcare.

“You can also take advantage of the discounts on offer, including discounts on gym memberships, cinema tickets and even money off holidays - which is great because we get five weeks annual leave.”

Is it competitive to get on the graduate scheme?

“The programme is definitely competitive to get on to, but if you don’t try, you’ll never know!

“Last year, around 1.1 million people applied for a job at Aldi and over 2,000 applied for the Graduate Area Manager scheme.

“I feel incredibly lucky to work for a company with such a great reputation and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about what to do next.”
