The funniest incident in my life
Everyone in his life experiences some incidents good or bad. There may be the happiest, the saddest or the funniest incident in one’s life.
One Sunday morning I received an invitation from a friend of mine Mr. Sudhir, as I had come from the U.K. back to my native land. I got up early in the morning and started preparing myself. My sister gave me a cup of tea early in the morning. Then I took my bath, and got ready. My sister then again asked me to take some snacks and tea but I refused to take as I was very anxious in getting to my friend’s house. She kept insisting me to take a heavy breakfast but I did not care for it. I walked out to the Bus Stop. Soon a bus came and I got into it and asked the conductor for a ticket for Babar Lane. The conductor frowned at me saying “This bus is not going to Babar Lane. It s going in the reverse direction, you can get down at the next stop and catch another bus.” I was baffled for some time at this sudden bit of information. Then I alighted from the bus and again waited for the next bus for Babar Lane.
I boarded the bus and reached 15, Babar Lane. But when approached my friend’s house, the door of his house was all locked up and closed. I was wondering whether I had come to the right place. As I was gazing and pondering, a neighbor of my friend came and asked me, “Why are you standing here? Do you want to meet someone?” I replied. “Yes, I want to see Mr. Sudhir living in Quarter No. 15”. He replied “He has moved house on Wednesday and has gone to Changi.”
Frustratedly, I came back to the bus stop. I was feeling thirsty and hungry. Soon it started drizzling. I was now in a fix as I had no umbrella. My confusion became worse with the pouring rains. I thought for a while that I had refused my morning breakfast in the hope that I would take it at my friend’s house. At this stage my anger was mounting. I was cursing myself as well as my fate, I was soaking wet and instead of going home, I made up my mind to meet Sudhir, come what may.
An idea hit me. I telephoned the Enquiry Office at Changi. The operator told me his address. So I made my journey to Changi. I reached the Address given to me by the operator. I rang the door bell. Tapan, a tiny tot (Sudhir’s youngest brother) came out and greeted me with a “Hello, uncle.” The moment I entered the drawing room, I saw the parents of Sudhir sitting on the sofa. They offered me a seat and I sat between them. As I was going to ask about the invitation extended to me by Sudhir, Dolly (Sudhir’s sister) came with a tray of tea. She was a pretty and vivacious girl. I remembered that I used to love Dolly during college days and had written to her many love letters, proposing marriage. Now Sudhir’s mother began to talk very politely. “Look son, the invitation to tea was a joke, as you know today is the First of April” But you are fortunate in the sense that your proposal of marriage has been accepted by all the members of the family.” I was thrilled to hear this news from Dolly’s mother.
My joy knew no bounds. My spirit felt lifted. Dolly was looking at me silently, her eyes expressing her love for me. We had tea to our heart’s content. I rushed home to give the glad news to my parents. This day, indeed, is the most funniest and happiest day in my life.

Everyone has a couple of stories that provoke the feeling of confusion and laughter when he recalls them. However, we are common people and it is natural for us to make mistakes and find ourselves in various perplexing situations. In my opinion, such unexpected and bewildering incidents make our life more colorful and gripping. They cure us from the harmful effect of triviality and monotony of daily routine. Furthermore, we do not occur in such situations alone.
There is always a friend or a relative (brother, sister, cousin, parents) who shares a part of fun with us. Thereof, confusion connects people and fills their lives with unforgettable memories. My funny incident is related to the sudden birthday of my inexistent ‘uncle Jerry’. I would like to tell you about him.
My name is Stephen Brown and I love my family and I try to remember about its every member, even the furthest ones. Our family lives in a small town. We are getting along with our neighbors well and we spend much time together . It is possible to say that we live in a friendly community. We know everything about our neighbors and so do they. It is humorous that the surname of the family living beside is also Brown. Sometimes, we receive their mail and pay for the pizza they order. I dare say this name made us closer.
One day, there occurred an incident that taught us to pay more attention to the similarity of our surnames. I woke up in the morning and decided to check the mailbox outdoors. I grabbed a pile of leaflets and newspapers and noticed a letter addressed to Mr. Brown. I opened the letter while eating my breakfast and found out that I had an uncle, Jerry, who celebrated his 60 th birthday in a week. Yes, it was an invitation card. Moreover, it contained a quaint remark: “I would like to know you better. You probably have never heard of me”. I did not think about my neighbor whereas I was excited and all agog. In addition, my neighbor said he did not have any relatives in this country while my family is very huge and counts dozens of people scattered around the state. It was possible to discover a new uncle who wanted to make contacts with us.
I started thinking about the present and the entire organization of the trip. He lived quite far from our town and it was going to take us at least ten hours by car. I took my wife and children to the nearest mall to choose the best present for my lost uncle Jerry. I thought about the gift a lot. The choice was very considerable inasmuch as I could not give something common. It would look like a sign of disrespect. It was unreasonable to present accessories or clothes because I did not know his favorite color. Finally, I made my mind to present a great photo album with the members of our family. It possessed solid symbolic value.
The day of my trip came. I asked my wife and children to behave well and present our family in the best light. I was worrying tremendously. I thought about the words that should be said. I thought about the best topics for conversation. What is more, I prepared to meet my other new relatives – the members of his family. How would they accept us? Were they interested in close friendship?
When we arrived, we were met heartily. We entered the house and introduced ourselves. Uncle Jerry introduced his wife, children and his friends who came to celebrate his birthday. We began talking about everyday things and then moved to the theme of our family. He spoke about grandparents, cousins and younger people whose names I had never heard. I began suspecting something. Uncle Jerry claimed that he was ‘my mother’s’ close friend and he played with me when I was little. The only thing was the name of ‘my mother’. It was completely different. I realized that that amiable and wise man was not my uncle. He was my neighbor’s family. I decided that it was unreasonable to continue the conversation in that way. On the other hand, it would look shamefully to say that I confused that man with my uncle. Therefore, I asked Uncle Jerry to go out and explained everything to him in private. We laughed a lot, excused ourselves but continued the celebration. I called my neighbor by phone and introduced to the birthday of his discovered uncle. When he came with his family, we felt confused and amused at the same time. In such a weird way I got a new friend whom I continue calling Uncle Jerry.

When I was five years old, I, for some odd reason, always mixed up 1 with 7. One day, our teacher asked us to complete “1” book report during the summer holidays. You are right! I did 7 instead! I was really tired after working day and night. I kept blaming the teacher, but it was all my fault.
However, there was a happy ending. The teacher appreciated my hard work and decided to make me the class monitor! Tsang Chung-ming, 14, St Mark’s Secondary School
Our most useless talents
A funny and most embarrassing thing happened when I was around three years old. My father asked me to join a long queue so that I could win HK$100. Out of curiosity, I agreed. But things became a little weird. People kept staring at me like I’m a freak.
When I finally reached the end of the line, I realised that I was inside a female toilet! It was the first time I felt so embarrassed in my life. My father still thinks it’s funny, me not so much. Owen Chan Ho-yeung, 13, Sha Tin Methodist College
It all happened when I was four. One day, I was watching TV while my mum dozed off on the sofa. Suddenly an advertisement caught my eye. It said: “LSL toothpaste, eat it if you want to.” I was fascinated. An edible toothpaste! I thought I must try it.
The next day, my mum took me to the supermarket, and I talked her into buying that toothpaste. Once I got home. I grabbed it and ran straight to the toilet. I ate half the tube. Mum found out and asked, “Do you know what you did, my boy? Does it taste good?” I was speechless. We laugh a lot every time we talk about it. Daris Chan Ka-wing, 12, CCC Heep Woh College
Thinking of a million ways to meet Santa Claus. Every Christmas, I received gifts from Santa and I was really curious about how he came into my house.
I thought of putting sand on the floor to trace his footprints, and tried staying up late and peeking through the door gap to catch Father Christmas. My curiosity about Santa brought out the creative (and stupid) side of me. Audrey Yeung, 14, Christian Alliance International School
Probably trying to hatch eggs. When I was a kid, I wanted to hatch eggs like chickens do. So I slept with an egg in my hands for several days. I didn’t dare move, thinking that the egg will break.
I was very excited and looking forward to seeing it hatch one day. But nothing happened despite my wholehearted effort. I was heartbroken at the time, but when I think about it now, I consider it the funniest thing I ever did. Zeng Man-long, 15, NTHYK Tai Po District Secondary School
What’s something you’re terrible at, but wish you did well?
Back in the days when I was learning to paint, I was obsessed with colours. Every time I used red and yellow paint, I thought I smelled strawberries and lemon gummy bears out of nowhere.
It’s hard to describe how appetising it was. So one day I “ate” the paint. It was the first and last time I did that. I am sure all paint must taste the same! Heidi Wan Yu-yin, 14, CNEC Christian College
When I was in kindergarten, I drew on my face with a marker pen. I remember I cried a lot because my parents couldn’t remove the colours from my face for almost a week. My classmates laughed at me. It was a funny – and scary – experience. Daniel Lam King-fui, 14, Carmel Bunnan Tong Memorial Secondary School
The things teens do better than adults
Our primary school maths teacher asked one of my classmates to tackle a question. She said it was very easy. My classmate gave the correct answer but she said it was wrong.
We persuaded the teacher to make the calculation on her mobile phone and then she found out that she had made a mistake. My classmates and I laughed. It was very funny. Coco Chan Tsz-yan, 14, CNEC Christian College
When I was small, I thought teachers didn’t have mothers.
During an English lesson in Primary One, my teacher was talking about her family and I was shocked that she had a mother. I asked her: “You have a mum?!” Ironically, the class didn’t laugh. They, too, seemed surprised that the teacher had a mum. The teacher laughed and said: “Of course, I have a mum! You think I was born on a rock?”
Thinking back, I really miss the days when I was a pure and innocent child, asking dumb questions, and bringing joy and laughter to my older self. I hope my teacher still remembers this hilarious incident. Yolanda Xiao Yu-ching, 13, St Paul’s Co-Educational College
I mistook someone else for my mum at Disneyland. There was a lady who wore the same shirt and pants as my mum so I ended up following her. It took me a while to realise that it wasn’t my mum. Then I started running around looking for her. Finally, I gave her a call and we were reunited. Ardales Jennica, 13, Ho Yu College and Primary School (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen)

One unforgettable funny incident that happened to me occurred during my first year of college. It was the time of our annual fest, and the atmosphere was charged with excitement. My friends and I had volunteered for the event's organization, and we were bustling around, making sure everything was in place for the evening's performances. In the midst of this chaos, I was assigned the task of arranging the props on stage for the drama competition.
Eager to impress, I decided to speed things up by carrying more props than I could handle. As I strutted across the stage, laden with an assortment of items, I didn't notice a banana peel (a prop for one of the plays) lying in my path. In what seemed like a scene straight out of a slapstick comedy, I stepped on the peel and performed an unintentional acrobatic display, ending with a spectacular fall, props flying everywhere.
The audience, which had started to gather for the next performance, erupted into laughter. For a moment, I lay there, stunned, before joining in the laughter myself. It was a moment of pure, unadulterated humor, reminding everyone that sometimes, it's the unplanned moments that bring the most joy.
Q1: How did you feel immediately after the fall?
A1: Initially, I was mortified, fearing I had ruined the props and embarrassed myself in front of a crowd. However, the laughter from the audience and my friends helped me quickly see the humorous side, and I ended up laughing at myself too.
Q2: What was the reaction of your friends?
A2: My friends were initially concerned but soon burst into laughter upon realizing I was unhurt. Their teasing about my 'stage debut' became a running joke throughout college.
Q3: Did this incident change your approach to tasks?
A3: Absolutely, it taught me the importance of not overburdening myself and the value of taking things one step at a time. It was a humorous lesson in balancing enthusiasm with practicality.
Q4: Do you often recall this incident?
A4: Yes, it's become a cherished memory among my college friends and me. It serves as a reminder not to take life too seriously and to find humor in mishaps.
Q5: Would you say this incident helped you grow?
A5: Definitely. It was a humbling experience that taught me the importance of resilience and finding joy in life's unexpected moments.
Another humorous incident that comes to mind happened during a family holiday in the mountains. My family decided to take a hike to a nearby waterfall, renowned for its breathtaking beauty. Armed with snacks, water, and my trusty camera, I was determined to capture every moment of this adventure.
As we reached the waterfall, I spotted the perfect rock to take a photo from. It was slightly away from the path and offered an unobstructed view of the waterfall. In my excitement to get the perfect shot, I failed to notice that the rock was slick with moss. As I triumphantly stepped onto it, my feet slipped out from under me, and I found myself plunging into the shallow water below.
The shock of the cold water took a moment to register before I surfaced, spluttering but unharmed. My family, after ensuring I was okay, couldn't contain their laughter. There I was, soaked to the bone in the middle of our hike, with nothing dry to change into. The rest of the day saw me squelching along in my wet clothes, a constant reminder of my misadventure.
Q1: What was your initial reaction to falling into the water?
A1: I was shocked and a bit embarrassed, especially since I prided myself on being careful. The cold water was a surprise, but I quickly found the humor in my situation.
Q2: How did your family react to this incident?
A2: After ensuring I was safe, my family erupted into laughter. They teased me for my 'dramatic' way of cooling off and ensured the incident was well-documented with photos.
Q3: Did this incident impact your enthusiasm for photography?
A3: Not at all. If anything, it reinforced my passion for capturing life's moments, albeit with a bit more caution towards where I stand.
Q4: Is this a memory you cherish from your trip?
A4: Absolutely. It's a funny story that we often reminisce about when talking about our travels. It reminds us of the fun and unpredictable nature of family trips.
Q5: What lesson did you learn from this experience?
A5: The biggest lesson was to always be aware of my surroundings and maybe to not go to great lengths (or depths) for the perfect photo. It also taught me the value of laughter and not taking myself too seriously.

Model Answer 1:
I like to laugh and be happy whenever there is a reason for it. Cracking jokes makes us happy and so do many funny incidents which we experience in our daily life. However, today, I would like to talk about a funny incident that happened to me a while ago. The incident took place at a birthday party about a few years ago. It fact, it was a birthday party of one of my little nephews.
Everybody, including all of my family members, relatives and the little friends of my nephews, was invited to the party on a lovely evening in order to enjoy the party. By the way, the party was supposed to be concluded as early as possible because all the little guests, friends of my nephew, needed to return to their homes safely before it was getting too late at night. So, the party formally started at around 8 pm with opening up the gift boxes ceremoniously. Once, we were done with opening the gift boxes, the time came for singing the “happy birthday to you” song, and we all sang the song in order to wish a very happy birthday to my nephew. Finally, the moment, we all had been waiting for, finally had arrived, and we were ready to cut the birthday cake except, of course, the cake had already been cut!
Without having a clue about what had really transpired, we all started to look at each other’s face until we suddenly noticed two little boys who were busy eating cake in a corner of the room. Once approached by me, the boys spared no time in divulging their secret about eating their “fair shares” of cakes with a very happy face instead of waiting for others! Needless, to say, we all burst into laughter.
Anyway, what I really remember the most about the funny incident is that the boys, who decided to eat their “fair” shares of cakes, looked so confident and happy as if they really had achieved some extraordinary “feat” by managing to cut the birthday cake way ahead of others.
Sample Answer 2:
The funny incident that I remember occurred was almost 2-3 years ago that I would like to describe. That time I was a student at a university and I was in my 7th semester. We had a group assignment and to collect data we went to some libraries after our class. In the evening, I found that my group members are complaining that they are hungry and they need to have some foods.
I found them entering a restaurant and I went with them. One of my classmates ordered some foods directly to the waiter without looking at the menu and after we are done with our foods, I noticed that one of the group mates is asking the group leader to pay the bill. The group leader was astonished as he had not offered the meal and said that he did not have the money to pay the bill. I asked the waiter to bring the bill and we were thundered to look at the amount. It was much higher than the usual price. Though we were a bit worried, we started laughing and enjoying the whole thing. One of the classmates offered to collect all of our money and then pay the bill. We looked at our wallets, pockets & bags and collected the whole amount. There were so many changes and coins there that we had to calculate 2-3 times. But to our surprise, the total amount is still not sufficient to pay the bill.
We started laughing and I proposed to two of the groupmates to give their cell phones and wrist watched as the alternatives of the bill. These two group mates got serious and were protesting that these would be an insane idea. Rest of us started enjoying their reaction as we found that they have actually taken this seriously. One of your group mates proposed that we should pay the amount we have with us and ask the manager of the hotel to allow us time to pay the rest of the amount. I told them that the manager would not allow that and would call the police! We enjoyed the event, the dubious looks on some of your classmates and the fact that 2-3 of them have taken the whole thing very seriously and are actually got anxious.
We stayed there for about 1 hour and noticed that people around us were giving surprising looks as we something very funny and interesting is going on among us. One of my group mates’ house was nearby and he proposed that he would go home and bring the money and in the meantime, we would stay there until he arrives. We agreed and waited for him another20 minutes or so. In the meantime, one of the boys told that the classmates who left won’t come back! We laughed at the idea and acted as if it’s going to happen for real. After our classmates returned from home, he paid the bill (with some tips as well!) and then we left the restaurant.
We then left for our home and I took a taxi and paid the taxi fare from my home. I told the story to other classmates the next day and they found it very funny and interesting as well. This event became famous in our class and we often mentioned the funny things happened that day among us.
Following are some of the funny incidence that you can talk about:
1. Attending a party of total strangers. 2. Reaching to someone’s house by mistake. 3. Travelling on a train without a ticket. 4. Falling in a pond/ river. 5. Making someone a fool and joking. 6. Finding a friend on a date. 7. Falling down from the chair. 8. Sending a personal email/ SMS/ letter to a wrong address. 9. Receiving a piece of funny advice from someone.
This cue card topic demands you to talk about a funny incidence. Try to remember a really funny incident from your experience than then arrange the story in such a way so that the questions with the cue cards are covered. Mention that you have told this event to many people and friends and they find it funny as well. Finally to make your point stronger about this funny incident state that whenever you think about this particular event, you find yourself smiling.

After five years we got together again – we as in our whole friend gang. The five of us saw each other frequently but never got together at the same place at the same time. The five of us are – me (Noyi), Raj, Disha, Rohan and Rishi.
We were friends from childhood as our parents were neighbours and so we naturally grew up together playing with each other and became best of friends and we still are till today even though we don’t meet like we used to but we are still the same.
When we first learned about the concept of 3R’s that is – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle , us two girls got an amazing idea of calling the three boys that as all three of their name started with R. None of the boys liked it and in return they called us the Crazy Girls.
After we grew up and got jobs, we became busy and never really had the time to get together and reminisce the past. However, after five long years, we are here in this bungalow away from the busy city life, for a small holiday. Its evening now and we lit up a bonfire and all of us sitting around it and talking.
One thing leads to another and then we started to reminisce the past humorous incidents together. The five of us together were really a handful bunch of kids. We pulled numerous numbers of pranks on each other and on other peoples. There are many incidents like that but here I will talk about a few of them which we were talking about that night.
There was this one incident where we two girls pulled a huge prank on the boys. It was huge because we even got our teachers involved in the prank. It was to get revenge on the boys. We both girls after working for hours finally made a perfect chocolate cake and decorated it with crème and sprinkled chocolate on it.
It looked really beautiful. We left it on top of the counter and went to call the boys so that we all can eat it together. We couldn’t find them any where even after searching for ten minutes so we gave up and came back to the kitchen to put the cake in the fridge.
But when we entered the kitchen, we saw that only the dish in which the cake was kept is there and the cake has disappeared and the boys are standing there whistling as if nothing happened and when we asked them that where the cake is, they said that one moment it was there and the next it magically disappeared.
We knew from the look on their faces that they are lying and they ate the whole cake so we planned to get revenge. It was the first time we baked something alone and never even got to taste it. This incident happened on a weekend so we had plenty of time to plan.
On Monday, I and Disha were prepared to get our revenge and give justice to the beautiful chocolate cake. We went to school armed with prank ideas and get to work. When the break came and the boys went outside to play, we took all the copies that contained their homework and went to the respected teachers and informed them about our prank.
The teachers agreed to play along after we promise them that we won’t cause any disturbance in their class anymore. After the break was over, the boys came back and asked for water from us and we gave all three of them their water bottles.
As soon as they took a sip, they spit it out all over each other as the water was full of salt. After that when the teachers asked specifically them for their homework copies, they couldn’t find them anywhere and had no explanation for this and when they asked us, we said it magically disappeared.
They immediately realised that we were taking revenge on them. After the day was over, all three of them apologize to us and we forgive them.
Then there was another incident. A teacher of our school was quite rude and always irritated with us for some reason that we had no idea about. One day that teacher gave all five of us punishment for being two minutes late. After three days of that incident, all five of us went to school and skipped two of our classes and went to re-decorate the said teacher’s car.
There were no guards or cameras where the teachers’ cars were kept. So, we sneaked in easily and decorated his black car with bright yellow spray paints and sparkly glitters and on the windshield it we wrote that “Newton’s third law says – For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”.
The next day when we went to school, during first class, we were called by the principal. We already knew that we were in trouble. It is safe to say that we got suspended for a week and got an earful from our parents and the principal. We got tracked down because of the cameras.
However, when we went back to school after the suspension was over, all the students congratulate us for what we did. The whole school knew not to mess with us by then. The said teacher never picked on us after that and before leaving the school, we also apologized to him but didn’t regretted doing that at all.
Later that night after doing a lot of reminiscing past humorous incidents we went to sleep. I and Disha decided to play a prank on the boys for old times’ sake. So, after midnight we covered our faces with scary looking masks and went to wake up the boys to scare them.
But it didn’t go as planned. We were tiptoeing around the living room and when we went to open Raj’s bedroom door, the door opened from the inside and the boys came out wearing scary masks like us and when we all saw each other we screamed extremely loud and scared each other even more.
Who knew that the 3R’s had the same idea as us. After screaming and shouting, we removed our masks and look at each other for a long time and then said good night and went to our respective rooms. Five minutes later all of us burst out laughing at the same time.

Students are often asked to write an essay on An Incident That Changed My Life in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.
Let’s take a look…
Introduction.
Life is a series of events. Some leave a deep impact on us. For me, it was my first camping trip that changed my life.
That incident made me brave. I learned to face challenges head-on. It also ignited a love for nature in me.
That camping trip was a turning point in my life. It taught me resilience and made me a better person.
A day at the shelter.
One cold winter’s day, I found myself in a bustling homeless shelter, surrounded by faces marked with hardship and resilience. The shelter, a beacon of hope for many, was a place where the less fortunate could find warmth, food, and a sense of community. My task was simple: serve meals and engage in conversation.
Among the many people I met, one man’s story struck a chord. A former engineer, he had fallen victim to circumstances beyond his control and lost everything. Despite his dire situation, he radiated positivity and hope. Our conversation was a stark reminder of life’s unpredictability, and it shattered my preconceived notions about homelessness.
The encounter made me reflect on my privileges and the transient nature of success. I realized that compassion and understanding were more valuable than material wealth. It also unveiled my passion for social work and ignited a desire to contribute to society more actively.
The day at the shelter was an incident that profoundly changed my life. It taught me to value humanity over materialism, and it guided me towards a path of social service. Life is indeed unpredictable, but it’s these unexpected moments that hold the power to redefine our purpose and transform our lives.
Life is a series of events, some ordinary and others extraordinary. Often, it is the extraordinary incidents that have the power to transform our lives completely. This essay delves into one such incident that not only changed my perspective but also my life’s trajectory.
A lesson in resilience.
John was a retired teacher who had lost everything due to a series of unfortunate events. Despite his circumstances, he never lost his spirit or his love for teaching. He would gather the children in the shelter every evening and teach them with an enthusiasm that was truly inspiring. His resilience in the face of adversity was a lesson in itself.
One day, I mustered the courage to ask John how he managed to remain positive. His reply was simple yet profound, “Life is not about what happens to you, but how you respond to it.” He explained that he chose to focus on the things within his control, like his attitude and actions, rather than dwelling on his misfortunes.
