Plan a plan b movie review: तलाक को लेकर समाज में नई सोच विकसित करने में यह फिल्म कितनी कामयाब होगी.

OTT प्लेटफॉर्म नेटफ्लिक्स (Netflix) पर आई फिल्म 'प्लान ए प्लान बी' (Plan A Plan B) में महानगरों की चमक-धमक है. इस फिल्म में उच्च मध्यम वर्ग की कहानी है, जहां महिलाएं फैंसी कपड़े पहनती हैं, पार्टी करती हैं. बॉलीवुड के दर्शकों में हर तरह के दर्शक शामिल होते हैं, वह फिल्मों में दिखाए गए कपड़े, भाषा और संवादों से प्रभावित होते हैं. इस फिल्म के पात्रों द्वारा अंग्रेजी संवाद जम कर बोले गए हैं और पात्रों की जीवन शैली से भी आम बॉलीवुड दर्शक जुड़ नहीं पाते, यही कारण है कि यह फिल्म दर्शकों द्वारा ज्यादा पसंद नहीं की जाएगी. इन सब के बावजूद यह बात जरूर है कि तलाक को लेकर समाज में नई सोच विकसित करने में यह फिल्म कामयाब होती है.

आज नहीं तो कल जरूर कमाएंगे शशांक घोष

'प्लान ए प्लान बी' के निर्देशक शशांक घोष (Shashanka Ghosh) बॉलीवुड में फिल्म 'वीरे दी वेडिंग' (Veere Di Wedding) के लिए जाने जाते हैं. इस रोमांटिक कॉमेडी फिल्म को बनाने के लिए उन्होंने स्क्रीन पर रोमांस वाला माहौल बड़ी ही खूबसूरती के साथ तैयार किया है. ऑफिस का सेटअप हो या फिल्म का क्लाइमेक्स, सब कुछ देखने में अच्छा लगा है. आंख में पट्टी बांध कर साथी की तलाश करने वाला दृश्य अनूठा है.

रिश्तों की बदलती परिभाषा और आजकल 'एप' से बनने वाले रिलेशनशिप को भी इस फिल्म के जरिए दिखाने की कोशिश की है.

यह जानते हुए भी कि हमारा समाज अभी भी सेक्स को लेकर खुलकर बात नहीं करता. निर्देशक ने इस फिल्म के जरिए इस मुद्दे को भी छूने की कोशिश की है. जहां एक मां अपनी बेटी से 'सेक्स कर ले किसी के साथ' कहते हुए दिखाती है.

शशांक घोष की फिल्में भले ही आज लोगों को अच्छी न लगें पर दस साल बाद यह पसंद की जाएंगी.

अंत तक बांधे रखती है फिल्म की कहानी

फिल्म की कहानी, संगीत और संवाद शुरुआत से ही दर्शकों का ध्यान खींचते हैं. फिल्म की कहानी एक मैचमेकर और तलाक कराने वाले एडवोकेट के रिश्ते पर केंद्रित है. लड़ते-झगड़ते कब यह दोनों एक दूसरे के करीब आ जाते हैं, इन्हें पता ही नहीं चलता. फिल्म की कहानी बहुत खूबसूरत है. जैसे-जैसे फिल्म आगे बढ़ती है इसके मुख्य किरदारों के बारे में हमें कुछ न कुछ नया पता चलता रहता है. इस रोमांटिक कॉमेडी के अंत तक दर्शक अनुमान नहीं लग पाते हैं कि वह एक हैप्पी एंडिंग देखेंगे या कहानी का दुखद अंत होगा.

दमदार अभिनय के साथ बला की खूबसूरत लगी हैं तमन्ना भाटिया

फिल्म की मुख्य पात्र निराली है. निराली एक मैचमेकर है और अपने पुराने रिश्ते की वजह से किसी नए रिश्ते में नहीं पड़ना चाहती. निराली का किरदार दक्षिण भारतीय सिनेमा की सुपरस्टार तमन्ना भाटिया (Tamanna Bhatia) ने निभाया है. फिल्म में वह बला की खूबसूरत लगी हैं. अभिनय के मामले में भी वह रितेश देशमुख से एक कदम आगे हैं.

शीशे के सामने खुद से बात करने वाले दृश्य में वह दमदार अभिनय करती नजर आती हैं.

रितेश (Riteish Deshmukh) ने बॉलीवुड में अपने कॉमिक किरदारों से अलग पहचान बनाई है. फिल्म में वह तलाक कराने वाले एडवोकेट बने हैं. लेकिन इस फिल्म में उनका कॉमेडियन वाला अवतार कम ही देखने को मिलता है.

वहीं पूनम ढिल्लों (Poonam Dhillon) ने एक आधुनिक मां के किरदार को निभाने में कोई कसर नहीं छोड़ी है.

नब्बे के दशक की याद दिलाता 'कह दो की'

फिल्म का संगीत रिश्तों की मिठास और कड़वाहट दोनों ही दर्शकों के सामने लाने में कामयाब रहा है. इसके गाने काफी लंबे समय तक लोगों की यादों में बसे रहने का दम रखते हैं. 'टल्ली' गाना पार्टी एंथम बन सकता है.

सौरभ दास का गाया 'दिल हो गया जोगिया' सुनने में अच्छा लगता है.

'कह दो की' गाना फिल्म के अंत में है और यह दिखाता है कि कोई गाना भी किसी फिल्म के क्लाइमेक्स में निर्णायक साबित हो सकता है. इसकी कोरिगोग्राफी को बड़ी ही खूबसूरती से अंजाम दिया गया है. 'कह दो की' सुनकर आपको नब्बे के दशक के गानों की याद भी आने लगती है.

काफी सोच विचार कर लिखे हुए संवाद

'प्लान ए प्लान बी' के संवाद बड़े प्लान बना कर लिखे गए हैं. इनमें तलाक से जुड़े संवाद बड़े प्रभावी हैं. 'न शादी गलत है न डिवोर्स, गलत शादी में रहना गलत है' इसका उदाहरण है.

कौस्तुभ के ऑफिस में काम करने वाली सेरेना का निराली से बोला हुआ संवाद- 'डिवोर्स के बाद लगा कि इट्स ऑल ओवर. फिर से प्यार करना मुश्किल होगा, मारता था वो' . उन महिलाओं का प्रतिनिधित्व करता हुआ लगता है जो सामाजिक तिरस्कार के डर की वजह से मानसिक रूप से प्रताड़ित होने के बावजूद तलाक नहीं लेती हैं.

कसी पटकथा, सुंदर दृश्य और कॉस्ट्यूम डिजाइन

फिल्म की पटकथा पर अच्छा काम किया गया है. फ्लैशबैक में जाकर घटनाओं को याद करते हुए दिखाने वाला प्रयोग प्रभावी है. मुंबई में ढलती हुई शाम का सीन दमदार सिनेमेटोग्राफी की गवाही देते हैं.

कलाकारों के मेकअप और कॉस्ट्यूम पर भी अच्छा काम हुआ है. तमन्ना भाटिया की वेस्टर्न ड्रेस हो या रितेश के रंगबिरंगे कपड़े, दोनों ही फिल्म की कहानी के हिसाब से फिट बैठते हैं.

‘Plan A Plan B’ Review: Riteish Deshmukh, Tamannaah Film Is All Over the Place

Netflix's latest rom-com also stars kusha kapila and poonam dhillon in key roles., plan a plan b.

Rom-coms have a pretty simple formula, despite all the twists and turns a story might take – there is a ‘meet-cute’, then the makers pick one of the many rom-com tropes, and then there’s conflict which ends in resolution.

In Riteish Deshmukh and Tamannaah Bhatia -starrer Plan A Plan B , the trope in question is enemies to lovers. And despite the fact that it sticks to many rom-com basics, there’s little else.

Riteish plays Kaustubh, a seemingly successful divorce lawyer and Tamannaah is Nirali Vora, a matchmaker cut straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movie, who inherited the business from her mother (Poonam Dhillon).

When they start sharing a co-working space, their disdain for each other spreads from their professions to each other as people.

The film is directed by Shashanka Ghosh with a script written by Rajat Arora.

Music that you might associate with early YouTube skits tries to tell you when a joke is supposed to land but the laughter never comes.

To their credit, Tamannaah and Riteish both do their best with the material they’re given and the film almost catches a groove when they’re interacting with their friends.

Tamannaah and her friend’s ( Kusha Kapila ) emotional conversations and eventual epiphanies are close to worth watching because of how well they perform the roles they’ve set out to.

But just as they came, the tropes keep on coming. As expected, the cold-hearted divorce lawyer who wants to break marriages soon becomes a messiah for women – all of whom are either overly flirty (I won’t even get started on the tractor to XUV analogy) or have a sad backstory.

Towards the end, the film creates angst and conflict for the sake of it – Kaustubh stops someone from telling Nirali something that he tells her five minutes later anyway. During its 105-minute runtime, the story meanders about before getting to the point everyone knows it will.

All hope is not lost though – Plan A Plan B might enter the ‘awkward makeout’ hall-of-fame. A stronger script would’ve gone a long way to actually establish the arc between them but the plot is choppy and the dialogues are choppier still.

What's the Story?

In PLAN A PLAN B, Nirali (Tamannaah Bhatia), a psychologist hanging out her shingle as a science-driven matchmaker, moves into a shared office space next door to her instant enemy, Kosty (Riteish Deshmukh), a divorce lawyer who gleefully separates people from the source of their unhappiness. She wants to bring joy to lonely people. He claims the joy comes when he releases unhappy people from their unions. Why marry when hookup apps just let you "do it," he asks. If you knew that three-quarters of all parachutes will fail, he goes on, would you go skydiving? Soon the two are engaged in open warfare, insulting each other to the amusement of office mates. Kosty seems to be an oblivious bon vivant who likes to drink and dance until he passes out on his married best friend's sofa. But his character turns around completely to the degree that Nirali's mother wants him for Nirali, even though he has an estranged wife whom he refuses to divorce. Will their hate turn to love?

Is It Any Good?

In Mediocre Romantic Comedy Land, the believability of the outcome of Plan A Plan B depends entirely on our willingness to accept that a smug, superior, controlling jerk is also a really lovely guy. Supposedly he has high moral standards and a soft spot for aging widows. But little in the movie supports that premise. Initially, when Nirali, who has given up on love, meets Kosty, nothing about their interaction predicts she'll find something to love in the jerk, except that that's the outcome written into the rules of romantic comedy. A few clever lines dispersed throughout don't make up for a complete abdication of character-building in this weak script. Why, for instance, won't Kosty give his estranged wife a divorce? He is, after all, a divorce attorney! But, hey, it's Mediocre Romantic Comedy Land.

We've all seen this movie before. Someone tries (not that hard) to tell Kosty that the person he's viciously badmouthing is standing right behind him, but he keeps spewing the vitriol. He finally realizes Nirali has heard his entire tirade against her and, although nothing in his personality has so far suggested he would care, for some inexplicable reason he feels bad. He's been saying equally hurtful things right to her face and Nirali hasn't flinched. Now, equally inexplicably, she is in tears. Of course she is. It's a Mediocre Romantic Comedy.

Sometimes you watch a film and cannot help but think that it was scribbled quickly on the back of a coffee shop serviette.

Shashanka Ghosh’s Plan A Plan B has those feels. The Netflix release pivots on the concept of opposites attracting but also the juvenile adage “Hate is the first sign of love”.

Rajat Arora’s script is pegged to the quirky and catchy idea of having a divorce lawyer and a matchmaker pitted against one another. Nirali Vora (Tamannah Bhatia) is a heartbroken psychologist who united individuals through science and Hallmark card philosophies. Nirali, who has taken over the matchmaking business from her mother (Poonam Dhillon), speaks like an eternal romantic but is blind to her own needs and prejudices.

Across the foyer from Nirali, in the same co-working space, is a successful and seemingly cold-hearted divorce lawyer. The immaculately dressed Kaustubh (Riteish Deshmukh) has OCD about everything. He cannot bear Nirali’s easy-going attitude and hokey methods. Kaustubh nurses his private hurt by swiping right on dating apps and offloading to his friend Girish.

A chat with Kaustubh’s wife and Nirali begins to thaw towards “Caustic”, while a man-to-man with a pre-teen is all it takes for Kaustubh to warm up to Nirali. Their mutual attraction is not borne out of any meaningful conversations but from listening to members of their respective coteries.

There is no Plan B in this story, no will they-won’t they suspense. You know where the story is headed – as does everyone else in Nirali and Kaustubh’s orbit – and yet it takes excruciatingly long for the 105-minute film to get to the point.

The jaunty background score has to work hard to suggest comedy, when what the script needed was wit. The styling and costumes are a huge distraction from the performances, though Deshmukh and Bhatia do manage to uplift the material and eke out a modicum of an emotional connection when required.

Plan A Plan B may not offer much of a good time, but it might be remembered for one of the most ungainly make-out scenes you can find on Netflix.

Netflix’s Plan A Plan B Movie Review Contains No Spoilers

In Shashanka Ghosh’s Plan A Plan B , we meet Nirali Vora (Tamannaah), a psychologist who works as a matchmaker. She helps people find an ideal partner and get married. There’s Kaustubh Chogale/Kosty (Riteish), a divorce lawyer who will do everything to ensure married couples (his clients) get a divorce. Nirali and Kaustabh’s professional world and beliefs are opposite.

When their world collides, there’s conflict and also romance. How will the two deal with each other considering one helps to find love and one breaks the relationship?

Director Shashanka Ghosh and writer Rajat Arora have presented an interesting and delightful idea of a rom-com between a divorce lawyer and a matchmaker. However, the idea seemed amazing on paper because the execution was weak.

Even after 20 minutes, I was not bothered about Nirali or Kosty. To kickstart their love-hate relationship, the makers made Nirali set up her office next to Kosty’s. However, everything that follows between the two is unconvincing and unfunny. Their arguments and taunts/sarcastic remarks had no effect.

The problem with Plan A Plan B on Netflix is the characters have no appeal. As a viewer, I had no emotional connection with either of them. Even though their professions are established, we seldom see them working. Just like their petty fights appear unrealistic, their romance seems shallow. How can you make two people fall in love without having any buildup? There is no chemistry. I didn’t have one good reason to root for the couple on screen.

Tamannaah Bhatia and Riteish Deshmukh give an underwhelming performance, mainly because of the weak script and bland characters. At times, it seemed like Tamannaah was plainly reading the dialogues. Poonam Dhillon and Kusha Kapila add nothing to the story. Bann Chakraborty and Saurabh Das’ music compositions are good. But the visuals and storytelling don’t let the tracks shine.

Plan A Plan B Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the Netflix Hindi romantic comedy lacked both romance and comedy. The premise was promising, but the execution was inefficient. It was a story of opposite attracts, but the people in love here have zero chemistry.

The movie is now streaming on Netflix .

Plan A Plan B Review: Far Less Intelligent Than It Thinks It Is

Pure piffle paraded as profound punditry, Plan A Plan B is a rom-com that skims the surface of matters of the heart as men and women, whether entering into matrimony or opting out of it, negotiate the sharp bends on the way. The film potters around without much of a roadmap. The result is a flimsy affair that leaves far too much to the actors to salvage.

Streaming on Netflix, Plan A Plan B , directed by Shashanka Ghosh (Khoobsurat, Veere Di Wedding) and written by Rajat Aroraa (Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, The Dirty Picture), presents an uninspired take on the cliched opposites-attracted-to-each-other theme and delivers a facile tale that revolves around a matchmaker/marriage counsellor/psychologist who plies her trade out of a shared workspace that also houses the office of an uptight divorce lawyer.

No prizes for guessing, Nirali Vora (Tamannaah Bhatia) and Kaustubh 'Kosty' Chougule (Riteish Deshmukh) have no love lost for each other. The two have been unlucky in their respective relationships and the past rubs off on how they deal with their obsessions and mental blocks.

Plan A Plan B swings between the vacuous to the odious in search of a sweet spot. All it manages to hit is the bottom of the barrel. The film volunteers a lot of information about the two principal characters and yet does not get us invested in their fate.

While the amiable Nirali thrives on bringing people together and saving marriages that are on the brink of collapse, the latter, an attorney who specialises in divorce and child custody cases, derives pleasure from helping couples part ways for good. No point fixing what's broke, he insists.

Nirali has inherited the matchmaking business from her widowed, fun-loving mother Kiran (Poonam Dhillon), who continues to live it up because she believes age is only a number. But the daughter is unable to live down a personal tragedy. Her friend Seema (Kusha Kapila) wants to help her deal with the loss and move on. Nirali struggles to put her past behind her.

The crusty Kosty is worse off. His marriage has imploded. His estranged wife Runjhun (Bidita Bag in a lively cameo) wants a divorce right away. Kosty, very quick to jump the gun when it comes to his clients, is hesitant. Bitter and forlorn, he drinks, dances and hooks up with girls on a dating app.

The lead actors deliver their very best but, saddled with a patchy screenplay that swims in shallow waters, their game effort to liven up the proceedings fails to make a meaningful difference to how the film shapes up.

Plan A Plan B looks pretty and smart at first flush, but none of its witticisms, hopelessly hackneyed as they are, lands. "Matchmaking in the times of Tinder", Kosty mocks Nirali's calling. A slogan on a doormat outside the man's cubicle reads "Marriage is dead". But Kosty is loath to give his own failed marriage a decent and quick legal burial.

In the adjoining glass room, Nirali strives to make bickering couples see logic and give each other a second chance, but she cannot stop herself from reacting angrily to the constant needling that Kosty subjects her to. She calls him "Caustic Chougule" and does not hold back when indignation gets the better of her.

With unlike poles and all that bundled into the film without any room for novelty, it is easy to see the final twist coming from a mile and a half away, which in film footage terms would translate into the entire 100-odd minutes of Plan A Plan B .

As a host of other tertiary characters walk in and out of Nirali and Kosty's offices, the film dwells on the relationship between the two bickering people and moves in a direction that it signals from the very moment that it gets underway. The twists and turns, if any, are superficial at best and add little value to an emaciated storyline.

That is not to say that Plan A Plan B has nothing at all to offer a discerning fan of relationship dramedies. It starts breezily enough as it sets the stage for the Nirali-Kosty fireworks. However, it is all downhill from there on as a predictable thaw sets in (and passions are ignited) thanks to a bond - it rests on his penchant for dance - that the divorce lawyer develops with the matchmaker's mother as the latter prepares to celebrate her 60th birthday.

Plan A Plan B exhaust whatever potential it has in double quick time and gropes in the dark for an elusive Plan C. That is where the film goes haywire.

Riteish Deshmukh does a great job of embodying the grumpy male protagonist. Tamannaah Bhatia serves as the ideal foil as a woman who represents positivity despite her own troubles. Poonam Dhillon, although perky and buoyant, does not exactly walk away with the film.

Kusha Kapila, playing the heroine's friend and confidante, does get a word or two in edgewise, but the character does not evolve beyond being a mere sounding board. Bidita Bag, in an appearance that is made up of two scenes, leaves an impression that belies the abbreviated nature of the role.

Plan A Plan B is far less intelligent than it thinks it is. It certainly isn't brainless, but far too much of the film beats about the bush and peddles notions that have been done to death by better, more impactful movies.

The two-star rating for Plan A Plan B is solely for the two stars who stay on course even as the film goes all over the place.
