Essay on Daily Routine

Essay generator.

In the fabric of life, our daily routines are the threads that weave together our days, giving structure, predictability, and a sense of normalcy to our existence. For students, establishing a well-organized daily routine is not just about managing time effectively; it’s about cultivating habits that foster growth, learning, and personal well-being. This essay delves into the significance of a daily routine, outlines a comprehensive example of an effective routine for students, and explains how such routines can enhance various aspects of life.

The Importance of a Daily Routine

A daily routine refers to the structured schedule of activities that one follows throughout the day. This could range from morning rituals, academic tasks, extracurricular activities, to relaxation before bed. The importance of a daily routine for students cannot be overstated. It instills a sense of discipline, improves time management skills, reduces stress by removing the unpredictability from the day, and ultimately contributes to achieving academic and personal goals.

Establishing a Morning Routine

A productive day begins the night before. Setting a consistent bedtime and wake-up time ensures adequate rest and sets the tone for the day. Upon waking, engaging in a morning routine that includes hydration, exercise, and a nutritious breakfast can energize the body and sharpen the mind. A brief period of planning can also help prioritize tasks and set a clear direction for the day.

Academic and Extracurricular Balance

The core of a student’s daily routine revolves around academic responsibilities. Allocating specific blocks of time for attending classes, studying, and completing assignments can help manage the workload effectively. It’s crucial, however, to intersperse these periods with breaks to avoid burnout and maintain productivity.

Incorporating extracurricular activities into the routine is equally important. Whether it’s sports, music, art, or volunteer work, these activities provide a much-needed break from academics, fostering personal growth and skill development.

The Role of Leisure and Downtime

While it may seem counterintuitive, scheduling time for relaxation and leisure activities is a vital component of an effective daily routine. This downtime allows for mental and physical recovery, boosting overall well-being and creativity. Engaging in hobbies, spending time with family and friends, or simply relaxing can rejuvenate the mind and body, preparing students for the challenges of the next day.

Evening Wind-Down

An evening routine plays a critical role in signaling the body to prepare for sleep. Limiting screen time, reflecting on the day’s achievements, and planning for the next day can ease the transition into rest. Reading or meditating before bed can also help calm the mind and ensure a restful night’s sleep.

The Impact of a Daily Routine on Student Life

Academic performance.

A structured daily routine enhances focus and efficiency, allowing students to dedicate ample time to their studies. By breaking down tasks into manageable segments and avoiding procrastination, students can improve their academic performance and achieve better grades.

Physical Health and Well-being

Regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, and sufficient sleep are fundamental aspects of a daily routine that directly impact physical health. These habits boost immunity, increase energy levels, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases, enabling students to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.

Mental Health

The predictability of a daily routine can significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels. By providing a sense of control and accomplishment, routines can improve mood, increase self-esteem, and foster a positive outlook on life.

Time Management and Productivity

Effective daily routines teach students the value of time management. By prioritizing tasks and minimizing distractions, students can enhance their productivity, leaving more time for personal interests and relaxation.

Building Life Skills

The discipline and self-control required to adhere to a daily routine are invaluable life skills. These habits encourage responsibility, independence, and resilience, qualities that are beneficial beyond the classroom and into adulthood.

Enhancing Creativity and Innovation

Contrary to the belief that routines stifle creativity, the structure provided by a routine can actually free up mental space for creative thinking. By automating decision-making for mundane tasks, students can channel their mental energy towards innovative projects and creative pursuits.

A well-structured daily routine is a powerful tool for students, offering a multitude of benefits that extend far beyond academic achievement. It lays the foundation for a disciplined and organized approach to life, cultivates healthy habits, and fosters personal growth and development. By embracing the principles of an effective daily routine, students can navigate the challenges of their academic journey with confidence, balance, and a sense of fulfillment. In the grand tapestry of life, the consistency and structure of a daily routine enable students to paint a vibrant picture of success, health, and happiness.

My Daily Routine

I am a student who follows a simple daily routine. Once I wake up, I perform my morning duties. Then I take my pet dog and go for a walk across the nearby lake. The fresh air in the morning makes me feel refreshed and energized for the rest of the day. My school being very close to my house, I prefer walking to school. By 7:30 AM, I finish my breakfast, take my school bag, and head towards the school.

There are two things that I never miss: the canteen and the library. Reading the encyclopedia and autobiographies of various artists always makes me happy. After the regular classes, I return home and enjoy lunch with my mom and dad. I sleep for about an hour or so. Then I play with my friends in the colony. In the evening, I also attend my tuition which end at around 8 PM. Once the homework is done, I switch on the television to watch some of the variety shows.

My mom serves us dinner by 10 PM. I spend some time chit-chatting with my family members and playing with my pet. I go to bed by 11 PM and get enough sleep to start a whole new day. Sundays are a bit more relaxed. Once in a while, we have family get-together or picnics. Having a daily routine keeps me disciplined and focused in my everyday life.

I genuinely enjoy learning new things, and each day at school presents an opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills. The interaction with my classmates is equally rewarding. We share ideas, collaborate on projects, and support each other through challenges, enriching our learning experience.

After school, I return home by 4:00 PM, grab a light snack, and then dive into my homework. I believe in staying on top of my assignments, as it helps me manage my time effectively and keeps stress at bay. Post-study, I allocate time for hobbies and personal interests, which vary from reading books to experimenting with coding projects or simply unwinding with some music.

Evenings are reserved for family time. We dine together, sharing stories and laughter, reinforcing our bonds. After dinner, I may spend some time watching a documentary or engaging in light reading, focusing on topics outside my school curriculum to broaden my horizons.

Before heading to bed, I review my tasks for the next day, organizing my schoolwork and setting out my clothes. This nightly routine ensures I’m prepared for the morning, allowing me to enjoy a restful sleep without worries. By maintaining this disciplined yet flexible routine, I balance my academic duties with personal development and leisure, making the most of my days as a ninth grader.

My Daily Routine Essay For Class 10

As a tenth grader, my daily routine is structured yet flexible, allowing me to balance my academic responsibilities with personal interests and social time. My day begins at 5:30 AM, a time when the world outside is still quiet and peaceful. Waking up early gives me a head start, and I use this tranquility to engage in prayer. This morning ritual helps me center my thoughts, reflect on my gratitude, and set positive intentions for the day ahead.

After my morning prayers, I freshen up and prepare for a brief session of play and exercise with my friend. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a bike ride, or a game of catch, this early interaction is not just about physical activity; it’s a cherished moment of camaraderie and laughter that energizes me for the day.

Breakfast follows, which is a crucial part of my routine. Sitting with my family, I enjoy a nutritious meal that fuels my body and mind. We share plans for the day, and this family time is a source of strength and motivation for me.

School starts at 8:00 AM, and the journey to and from the institution is an extension of my social time, as I often commute with friends. The school day is packed with lessons across various subjects. As a class 10 student, I am keenly aware of the importance of this academic year, and I engage deeply in my studies, participating in discussions and eagerly absorbing new information. The subjects I study are diverse, challenging me to think critically and creatively.

After school, I dedicate time to homework and revision. This discipline is crucial, as it helps reinforce what I have learned during the day and prepares me for upcoming assessments. Despite the academic focus, I ensure there is a balance. I take short breaks to rest my mind, sometimes playing a quick game or sharing jokes with my friend over the phone.

Evenings are reserved for relaxation and family. After dinner, we might watch a show together or discuss our days. This downtime is essential for my well-being, allowing me to unwind and connect with my loved ones.

Before bed, I spend a few moments planning for the next day. This includes setting out my clothes, packing my school bag, and jotting down a to-do list. I aim to be in bed by 10:00 PM, ensuring I get enough rest to face another day with energy and enthusiasm.

This routine, with its blend of discipline, learning, and leisure, shapes my daily life as a class 10 student. It not only prepares me academically but also teaches me the value of balance, time management, and the importance of cherishing moments with friends and family.

The word “routine” can bring to mind words like mundane or ordinary. During the pandemic’s disruptions to daily life , routines may have felt boring and restrictive. However, as an occupational therapist and researcher of the impact of activity and participation on mental health , I know that routines can be powerful tools. They can support cognitive function, boost health and provide meaningful activities and social opportunities.

Early in the pandemic, researchers pointed to the value of daily routines to cope with change. As the two-year anniversary of the pandemic coincides with the relaxation of public health measures across the country, reflecting on routines and their value is useful when moving toward a “new normal.”

Routines support cognitive function

First, having a daily routine and regular habits supports cognitive function and may even free people up to be more creative. Research has found that having regular work processes allows workers to spend less cognitive energy on recurring tasks, which can support focus and creativity for more complex tasks.

Think of typical morning routines that existed before the pandemic: helping family members get on their way, taking a usual route to work, grabbing a warm beverage along the way, saying hello to coworkers, flipping on a computer or opening a calendar. Having habits like these can set the stage for a productive work day.

A review of the daily rituals of influential artists found that many artists have well defined work routines which may support their creativity rather than constrain it. Memory research shows that regular routines and habits can support older adults to function better in their home environments.

If taking medications at the same time and putting the keys in their spot is part of a daily routine, less energy will be spent looking for lost objects and worrying about maintaining one’s health, freeing up time for other things people want to do in their day.

Routines promote health

Regular routines can also help people feel like they have control over their daily lives and that they can take positive steps in managing their health. For example, making time for exercise within routines can help meet recommended daily activity levels . This is especially relevant now, since research shows that people who reduced their activity levels during the pandemic could experience enduring health effects.

As people increase activity outside their homes, they might consider taking transit to school and work, returning to organized fitness activities and the gym and opportunities to include movement throughout the day. Other ways that routines can support health include regular meal preparation and getting enough sleep , activities that seem simple but can pay dividends in healthy aging over a lifetime.

Routines provide meaning

Regular routines can also go beyond the streamlining of daily tasks and add some spice to life. Evidence indicates that a health-promoting activity like walking can offer chances to enjoy nature, explore new places and socialize.

Research on the concept of flow , a state of full absorption in the present moment, shows that activities like sports, games, fine arts and music can be fulfilling and reinforcing. Regular participation in meaningful and engaging activities can also contribute positively to mental health .

Small steps to build routines

If you think your daily routines could use a tune up, consider some small steps:

• Use a day-timer or smart phone app to organize your activities and put the things you want to do in your schedule.

• Choose a regular time to wake up and to go to bed and try to stick to it most days of the week.

• Make physical activity manageable with neighbourhood walks or bike rides a few times a week.

• Start a new hobby or re-engage in a past one, like playing sports or games, making arts and crafts, playing an instrument or singing.

• Keep an eye out for meaningful activities that may be popping back up in your community, like a book club at the library or a social walking group.

Routines have the power to help us manage our health and our work, home and community lives. Two years after the pandemic changed everyone’s lives, people now have an opportunity to consider the routines they want to keep and the meaningful things they need in their daily lives to stay productive, happy and healthy.

18 Reasons Why a Daily Routine Is So Important

All of us are aware that kids need a routine to provide structure and discipline in their lives. When we were younger, most of us were told to go to bed at a certain time, wake up at a certain time, do our homework after school, eat dinner at a regular hour, shower, even play with our friends at a specific time. But what about adults? Many grownups do not have a set daily routine and ‘wing’ their day. They have no idea what they are going to do when they wake up each morning because they have not thought about creating a schedule to adhere to. As a result, many people feel like they are stressed, anxious, overwhelmed and falling short of their goals and true potential. The answer lies in carefully designing a routine that works best for each of us, one which helps us be productive, in control, and be the best person we can possibly be.

I used to view having a routine as being boring, rigid, and stifling, and I know that many people share this view. They live their lives in a capricious and whimsical manner, believing that it frees them somehow. On the contrary, I have learned that designing and adhering to a personal daily routine is the path to freedom, productivity, happiness, and fulfilling our true potential. Here is why all of us would be better off with a set routine:

1. Makes Us More Efficient When we have a routine that we follow daily, it reduces the need to make decisions each day. It enables us to know exactly what tasks we need to do each day without having to contemplate, decide or think too much. When we are finished with one task, we know what comes next without much thought. Activities become standardized and we become more efficient as a result. 2. Reduces Our Need to Plan When we carefully design a set routine to follow, it eliminates the need to plan our activities every morning and budget and allocate our precious time. It takes the guesswork out of our day and allows us to wake up and ‘do’ instead of wake up and ‘plan’.

3. Creates Structure in Our Lives A daily routine provides structure and a logical sequence in our lives. It provides the framework within which we live our lives and conduct our daily activities. Soon we become familiar and comfortable with what we have to do each day. It allows us to experience a flow to our day.

4. Saves Time, Our Most Valuable Resource Time is the most precious asset at our disposal because, once lost, it is non-retrievable. By following a routine, we free up time that would otherwise be spent on planning, decision-making and preparation. Our routine has predetermined our schedule, allowing us to use our time efficiently.

5. Instills Good Habits The secret to building good habits is repetition. When we design a personal routine that works for us, it facilitates developing good habits by encouraging us to repeat the same tasks over and over again. Just like brushing our teeth every morning, adhering to a routine allows us to foster habits that match our goals and aspirations. 6. Breaks Bad Habits While our routine helps us develop good habits that are in line with exploiting our full potential, it also helps to eradicate bad habits that do not serve us well. We can slowly replace our bad habits with good ones through repetition.

7. Helps Us Become More Proficient When you have a routine, you start to become better at doing certain things because you do it regularly. That is one of the keys to mastering any skill. Think about something you are skillful at. More likely than not, you developed your skill because you have performed the task over and over again. Practice makes perfect!

8. Helps Us Get the Most Important Tasks Done When we carefully design a personal routine and stick to it, it allows us get the most important things done first and out of the way. There is no room for forgetfulness or neglect. Because the most important tasks have been predetermined by us, as long as we follow our routine, we know that we will complete what is important and not spend time and effort on frivolous things. 9. Prioritization The beauty of designing a set routine is that it forces us to prioritize and decide what is important to us. Rather than make these decisions on a daily basis, we already know what we need to do and in what order because we have carefully planned it. For example, after some soul-searching and careful introspection, I decided that being mindful and healthy were goals that I wanted to attain, so I incorporate meditation and exercise into my daily routine.

10. Reduces the Need for Determination and Willpower When we brush our teeth in the morning, it does not require a lot of determination or willpower because most of us have made it a daily ritual. We hardly think about having to brush our teeth; we simply do it. The same holds true for other tasks when we follow a routine. It simply becomes, well, ‘routine’!

11. Reduces Procrastination When a set of tasks and activities become routine, it reduces the chance that we will procrastinate doing them. It becomes ingrained into our system and we almost do it subconsciously. For example, I do a few minutes of yoga every morning when I wake up. I do not have to think about it. I simply do it because it has become a habit. We all know that procrastination is a waste of time and having a routine is one way to combat it.

12. Builds Momentum As we all know, when you do the same things repetitiously, it builds momentum, making it easier to persist. That is why going to the gym gets easier the more frequently you do it. Momentum is a huge factor when it comes to ensuring success and following a routine helps build that momentum.

13. Builds Self Confidence When we adhere to a routine and stick with it, it helps build self confidence and gives us a sense of tremendous satisfaction. That provides us with the ‘fuel’ to continue our routine and reap the benefits associated with it. And a lack of self confidence is one of the main reasons people find it difficult to change their lives for the better.

14. Saves Us Money When we follow a routine and do the same things over and over again, it can help us save money. For example, part of my routine involves juicing fruits and vegetables each morning. Because I know that I will follow this routine religiously, I can buy my fruit and vegetables in bulk, saving me money. The same holds true for many other things such as the cost of a long-term gym membership.

15. Helps Reduce Stress and Facilitate Relaxation There will always be things in our lives that are beyond our control, and we need to accept that. However, there is so much that we can control, especially if we follow a routine. When we design and stick to a routine, it eliminates a lot of stress because we do not have to think and worry about what needs to get done. The act of ‘doing’ gives us a sense of control and helps us relax instead of fretting about the tasks at hand.

16. Frees Up Our Time Contrary to what some people believe, following a routine that prioritizes repetitive tasks actually provides us with more free time to do as we please. Not every aspect of our lives needs to be scheduled or incorporated into a daily routine. There is a time and place for leisure, relaxation, and ‘non-doing’, and adhering to a routine frees up the time for it. In fact, as we discussed before, our routine makes us become better and more efficient at performing certain tasks. This means that we often spend less time completing the tasks listed in our routine via repetition. 17. Helps Us Achieve Our Goals Our goals and aspirations are rarely, if ever, achieved all at once. Successful people accomplish their goals by doing the same things over and over again. An athlete gets good at his sport because he practices daily. An artist hones his craft through repetition. Developing and sticking with a routine that is congruent with your goals is one of the surest ways to ensure success.

18. Keeping Track of Our Success When we slack off and fail to follow our predetermined routine, it is a clear sign that we are falling short. It is an excellent way to monitor our progress. We can subsequently make adjustments and get back to following our personal routines while having the confidence that we are on the right track again.

Keep in mind that it is fine if you decide that you only want to follow your routine on weekdays and not on weekends, or if you have a different routine on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, etc. It is also perfectly okay to set aside certain times to do nothing. The point is that you have thought about it carefully and are mindful about your choices. After all, having a routine is nothing other than a conscious choice to live your life in a certain way through healthy repetition. It is one of the keys to success and happiness.

Each of us is different and has different goals, needs, desires, and resources. That is why it is important to develop our own routine after carefully deciding what we want to achieve in our lives. The rewards to be reaped are definitely worth the effort. Today is a brand new day and it is never too late to start your own routine.

I am a morning person and consider it the most productive time of the entire day. In the morning, nature looks so calm and peaceful. Even my parents and teachers suggested waking up early in the morning. I respected their suggestion and followed it.

So, I get up at 6 a.m., brush my teeth, and wash my face with water. After that, I go for a quick stroll in the park. I consider a morning walk essential for a healthy lifestyle. I walk for almost half an hour and also do some exercise. After doing the morning walk, I come back home and freshen up. It keeps me strong and active for the entire day.

Then I eat my breakfast, and after that, I study Science and Maths in the morning. I consider morning the best time to study, and it helps you memorise the concepts and topics efficiently.

School Time

Around 9 a.m., I get ready to go to school. My father drives me to school, and at around 1 p.m., I get my lunch break after four continuous classes. My school gets over by 4 p.m., and my mother comes to pick me up. Every day, she comes because it takes 20 minutes to reach my home from my school by car. I love going to school and learning new things.

For me, school time is the best time. I get to spend time with my friends and play games during recess. My best friend’s name is Anne; she always stands beside me in good and bad times. I love her so much and will never break my friendship with her. To me, she’s more than just a friend, she’s my family.

Eat and Sleep Routine

When I go to school, I carry my lunch with me. I have my lunch during recess. My mother knows what I love and prepares lunch accordingly. My favourites are pizzas and burgers but my mom doesn’t let me eat from outside. So, she prepares it by herself and I love the food she cooks.

At night I watch TV with my family for some time, and around 10 p.m., I go to bed. When I go to bed, I think about my entire day, and sometimes I read novels or story books.

Holiday Routine

When it’s vacation time, my daily routine differs. I get a lot of spare time. I spend time playing video games, going out with friends and family, and visiting my grandparents. Sometimes I enroll myself in summer vacation camps.

Conclusion of Daily Life Essay

That’s all about my daily routine. I always try to follow this routine. But sometimes, I need to bring some changes to the routine. And when I spend holidays and off days from school, I can’t follow this routine. I think this routine is helping me to use my time efficiently and to complete my study tasks correctly.

Daily Routine Essay for Working Person:

As a working person, finding balance in our daily routine can be challenging. Our days can feel like they are consumed by work, leaving us with very little time for ourselves and our loved ones. However, it is important to remember that having a healthy and well-balanced daily routine is essential not only for our physical health but also for our mental wellbeing.

One of the key aspects of a successful daily routine is time management. This means prioritizing tasks and setting specific times for each activity throughout the day. This can help us avoid feeling overwhelmed and stressed, as well as ensure that we are able to accomplish all our necessary tasks.

Another important aspect is self-care. It may seem counterintuitive, but taking breaks and making time for ourselves can actually lead to increased productivity and energy levels. This can include activities such as exercise, meditation, or simply unplugging from technology for a period of time.

In addition, it is important to have a healthy balance between work and personal life. It can be easy to get caught up in the demands of our jobs, but it is crucial to make time for our hobbies, interests, and relationships outside of work. This can help us recharge and avoid burnout, allowing us to be more present and focused when we are at work.

Furthermore, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule is crucial for our overall well-being. It is recommended that adults get 7-9 hours of sleep each night in order to function at their best. Establishing a bedtime routine can help with falling asleep and staying asleep, leading to better rest and increased productivity during the day.

Lastly, don’t forget to take care of your mental health. This can include seeking therapy or counseling if needed, practicing mindfulness and self-reflection, and surrounding yourself with a supportive network of friends and family. Remember that it is okay to prioritize your mental health over work at times and to take breaks when necessary.

In conclusion, creating a well-balanced daily routine can greatly benefit working people in all aspects of their lives. By managing our time effectively, prioritizing self-care and personal life, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, and taking care of our mental health, we can find balance and fulfillment in both our work and personal lives

Essay on My Daily Routine in Simple Present Tense:

My daily routine is something that I have been following for years now. It includes various activities and tasks that I do on a regular basis, from the moment I wake up to the time I go to bed at night. In this essay, I will be discussing my daily routine in simple present tense, as it accurately reflects my current habits and actions.

I wake up at 6 am every morning, without fail. After getting out of bed, I stretch my body before heading to the bathroom for my morning routine. I brush my teeth, take a shower, and get dressed for the day ahead. Once I am done with my hygiene routine, I make myself a cup of hot tea and sit down to meditate for 15 minutes. This helps me clear my mind and set a positive tone for the rest of the day.

As I work from home, my work routine is quite flexible. After meditating, I check my emails and respond to any urgent ones. Then I make a to-do list for the day, prioritizing the tasks that need to be done. I start working at 8 am and take short breaks every hour to stretch my legs and grab a snack or a glass of water. My workday ends at 5 pm, after which I spend some time planning for the next day’s work.

After finishing work, I take a walk outside to get some fresh air and sunlight. This helps me relax after a long day of work. Once I am back home, I prepare dinner while listening to some music or a podcast. After dinner, I spend time with my family or catch up on my favorite TV show. Before going to bed, I have a cup of chamomile tea and read a book for 30 minutes. This helps me wind down and fall asleep easily.

Weekend Routine

On weekends, I like to sleep in a little later than usual. After waking up, I make myself a hearty breakfast and spend some time catching up on household chores. In the afternoon, I either go out with friends or family or spend time pursuing my hobbies such as painting or gardening. My evenings on weekends are usually spent relaxing and unwinding, either by watching a movie or going for a walk.

1. My Daily Life as a Student – Essay  by Mili

“I get refreshed with the morning walk or a little exercise and then prepare myself for the study with utmost sincerity. It is against my principle to put off today’s work for tomorrow or to have any private tutor.”

Mili shares her simple life in this essay by describing everyday activities every student does, such as brushing her teeth and exercising. She mentions her classes and recess at 2 PM, where she and her friends eat snacks, play games, and chat. As a student, Mili has a busy six-day schedule but visits theaters after washing her uniforms on Sundays. You might also be interested in these essays about reflection .

2. Write an Essay on Your Daily Life  by Darshan Kadu

“Life is too precious to be idled away in lethargic existence and in useless ventures. My daily routine is jam-packed with actions and activities and keeps me and my mind busy all the time. The adventures of daily life make it interesting and an exciting journey.”

On school days, Kadu’s daily routine includes jogging, getting ready for school, and having breakfast with the whole family. After school and attending meetings, he usually plays with friends in the field. Kadu also mentions how he spends his holidays. He believes that even though he has a daily routine, it’s exciting and full of adventure.

“Ancient Egyptian’s daily life revolves around the Nile and the rich soil around it… daily lives of people have changed a lot since then.”

This essay shows how religion helped the Ancient Egyptians run their daily lives. The author discusses changes in festivals and the treatment of gods and royalty. To make an effective comparison, they use three examples: the importance of family, the Nile, and slavery.

The writer mentions that the Nile was essential in Ancient Egypt because it provided food to the people. Modern Egyptians no longer depend on the Nile river and its rich soil. As for working, people used to be enslaved by the rich and were forced to farm. Now, while farming is a work option, slavery doesn’t happen anymore. Early marriage is also forgotten, but the importance of family is still the same for all Egyptians.

4. My Daily Life  by Ken Subedi

“Sometimes I feel that I am really becoming a machine to have a strict time table. But I also believe that if we do everything on time, success will kiss us and we can lead a qualitative life.”

Subedi believes that people spend the day depending on their roles. Because he’s a student, he talks about how a typical school day goes for him, noting how he follows a strict schedule to do his homework, play with friends, and prepare for the next day.

Subedi mentions how Saturdays and holidays distract his daily routine and shares how he feels like a machine with the readers. However, he also says that he knows it’s necessary to have a successful life. You might also be interested in these essays about New Year .

5. Long Essay on Television In Our Daily Life by Prasanna

“There are channels that beam programs 24 hours a day. Whereas this may be a boon for the people who do not have much to do anyway, it becomes a source of great distraction for children for whom the priority should be their studies.”

Technology like television is essential today but can also be a distraction to many. Prasanna refers to television as the most common form of entertainment that provides information on what’s happening worldwide. However, some shows have mature or violent elements that have adverse effects, especially on children. Additionally, those who spend too much time watching television will miss the thrill and excitement of going out and meeting other people.

Shraddha Mishra

Key Points To Remember When An Writing Essay On Daily Routine For Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on daily routine in english for kids, a paragraph on ‘my daily routine’ for children, essay on ‘my daily routine’ in 150 words for kids, long essay on ‘daily routine’ for children, what will your child learn from this essay.

A daily routine for kids allows children to be happy, productive, and energetic during their childhood. Any routine is key to success, and it is important to plan things out well before getting to work. Readers are recommended to go through our essay on daily routine for classes 1, 2, and 3 for more ideas on this. It’s crucial to note that routines should be over the top and realistic enough for kids to follow. You don’t want to overwhelm your little ones with complex matters; make a simple schedule that keeps young minds clutter-free. This essay will cover all the points required to write a creative essay on a daily routine topic from a kid’s perspective.

Routines are about consistency, and an excellent daily routine should be easy to follow. Given here are some key points to remember when learning how to write an essay on daily routine:

  • The essay should have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.
  • It should talk about the timings of the schedule and see if it’s flexible for students
  • A paragraph should be covered on the importance of having a daily routine

A daily routine is essential for kids as it gives a planned direction to their daily activities. Here is what you want to include in your essay for classes 1 and 2:

  • I take notes every day in my diary and make sure I pay attention in the classroom.
  • I wake up at 6 am as part of my daily routine.
  • My routine keeps me motivated and allows me to complete homework faster.
  • Life is so stress-free when I follow a routine since I know what to do.
  • I have a very organised schedule and follow it with complete dedication.
  • I work out daily in the morning as a part of my routine.
  • My daily routine has intervals for nutritious meals in between.
  • I stay mentally sharp and feel relaxed thanks to my daily routine.
  • Bad days are significantly less, and most of the year is filled with good days thanks to this discipline.
  • My overall performance has increased as I follow my schedule with heart.

A routine helps children stay accountable, and on track, and they have something to look forward to every day. Here is a paragraph about daily routine for children:

You can know how well we perform as kids in school, home, and outdoor environments just by chalking out our daily routine. My parents have carved an amazing daily routine for me, which allows me to be free, healthy, and active in a disciplined way. Every day, I wake up at 5 am and brush my teeth. I answer nature’s call and go outside for a morning walk. After exercising in the fresh air, I come back and enjoy a healthy breakfast. I pack my bag and leave for school. My evening routine includes playtime with friends, study hours, dinner, and bedtime.

Understanding how to utilise one’s time effectively is an essential aspect of managing one’s daily routine. Below is an essay for classes 1, 2, and 3 on my daily routine for kids:

I understand the value of time, which is why I follow a daily routine. After a light exercise in the morning and enjoying a healthy meal, I pack my bag and prepare for school. My friends and teachers are people I look forward to meeting every day, and that is because they enrich my life. I follow a very well-made timetable, and I stay true to it. I return home from school in the evening and say my evening prayers. Then I change my uniform and take a rest for an hour. If I’m not sleepy, I might play a board game with my sibling or enjoy 30 minutes of video game time. I go for a stroll or play basketball with my friends in the evening. Then I do my revision and finish my school homework. We finish our dinner early at night, and I spend quality time with my parents. Before going to sleep, I say thanks for having such a lovely family and environment.

A routine isn’t something you think of at the last minute but is well-structured and organised. The purpose of a daily routine is to avoid cramming before tests and ensure you’re always prepared and at your best. Here is a long essay for class 3:

All people, including the ones who go to the office for work or school, should have a daily routine. A routine is a schedule that keeps one organised and energetic and gives you peace of mind. Without a good routine, there would be no law and order but complete chaos. We are living in strange times when kids think that a routine is a discipline when in reality, it is what grants them freedom. Entertainment is a part of every good daily routine, and I watch TV and play video games with my friends sometimes at home.

What I look forward to from my routine is proof of progress. It’s what makes all the hard work worth it. A person with a strict daily routine is under less stress because they know they are getting things done. I understand the importance of a daily routine and realise it will help me succeed.

Importance Of Daily Routine

Without a daily routine, I do not know where I would be. The importance of a daily routine as a student is that it is almost non-negotiable. We make great progress if we don’t take our routine for granted and stick to it. And it’s never too late to start! A sense of discipline is the key.

Morning Routine

A morning routine is essential to have an enthusiastic start to the day. One should wake up early, go for a walk or meditate to energise the body and soul and prepare for a challenging day. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So, one should never skip it. Make a checklist of all the crucial tasks of the day in the morning and make time to complete it.

School Routine

My school routine is:

  • Attend morning prayer at 8:30 am
  • Work through classes
  • Lunch at 12:30 pm
  • Go to the school library
  • PE classes on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Go home at 4 pm

Routine For Eating And Sleeping

Here is my routine for eating and sleeping:

  • I always go to bed by 9 pm and not any later.
  • I have oats, a banana, and a glass of orange juice for breakfast at 8 am.
  • Lunch should be pretty basic- dal, rice, meat, ground eggs, and coconut water.
  • Dinner should not go past 7.30 pm. For dinner, I take soup along with a hearty meal.
  • Including fruits and nuts in your diet is essential for a healthy body and mind.

Your child will learn a lot from the essay on daily routine. They will learn how to eat well and sleep on time. Additional soft skills such as spending time with friends, taking responsibility for your actions, etc., are also covered.

So, embrace a progressive routine and enjoy a stress-free, managed lifestyle. Feel free to comment on our daily routine essay below and let us know your thoughts.

The Importance of Maintaining Structure and Routine During Stressful Times

Verywell / Bailey Mariner

Key Takeaways

  • Even if you don't typically thrive on a strict schedule, having a routine can be helpful in times of unpredictability, uncertainty, and stress.
  • Implementing a structure to your day can give you a sense of control. It can also improve your focus, organization, and productivity.
  • Having a routine is about more than just your day-to-day responsibilities and your work—don't forget to make time for self-care.

Some people love to have a solid daily routine, while others shudder at the thought of having a predictable schedule. During times of great stress, however, maintaining structure and routine can help you feel more organized and in control.

Having a routine can be helpful at any time, particularly if you are trying to establish healthy habits, but these routines can be particularly important when aspects of your life feel uncertain.

A Sudden Lack of Structure

Many people are either working from home or faced with the prospect of an unknown period of unemployment. Those working at home may quickly discover that the constant isolation and lack of a normal schedule can be mentally taxing.

Rachel Goldman, PhD

When people don't have a routine or structure to their day it can cause increased stress and anxiety, as well as overwhelming feelings, lack of concentration, and focus.

A lack of structure and routine can actually exacerbate feelings of distress and make you pay more attention to the source of your problems. As Rachel Goldman, PhD, a psychologist and clinical assistant professor at the NYU School of Medicine, explains: “If people don't have structure and are sitting around with less to focus on, then they also probably will find themselves thinking about the stressful situation more, which can also lead to additional stress and anxiety."

One way to get out of this cycle that promotes ruminating over the source of your stress is to maintain some structure and routine throughout your day.

The Benefits of Having a Routine

Research has consistently shown that routines can play an important role in mental health. One study, for example, found that routines could help people better manage stress and anxiety.

Having a regular routine can help you:

  • Lower stress levels
  • Form good daily habits
  • Take better care of your health
  • Feel more productive
  • Feel more focused

Getting necessary tasks out of the way can also help you find more time for healthy behaviors like exercise and leave you more time to enjoy fun activities and hobbies.

Focus on Things You Can Control

Managing your own behaviors can help you feel more in control of the situation. Goldman recommends focusing on the things that are within your power to control.

A good place to start with creating a new routine is to set wake-up and bedtimes, as well as meal and activity times.

The key is to create a routine that adds structure and a sense of predictability to your day. Of course, your schedule may change somewhat depending on the day of the week, but sticking to a basic structure for when you will wake, eat, work, do activities, and sleep can help you feel less stressed out and more organized.

Structuring your day also ensures that you accomplish those basic tasks that must be done, which will leave you with the time to schedule in other things that you want or need to accomplish.

You’ll feel more organized and productive with a regular routine, which will help you feel more proactive and in control in the face of a stressful situation.

Follow a Routine That Supports Your Health

There are some things that you can make a part of your daily routine to help manage stress levels. These include:

  • Staying active and getting regular daily exercise
  • Making sure that you are well-rested
  • Eating healthy meals on a regular schedule
  • Setting realistic goals
  • Trying to stay positive
  • Preparing for challenges but not ruminating on things you can't control
  • Staying in touch with friends and family members
  • Setting aside time for activities that you enjoy

Of course, the situation you personally are coping with can also affect how easy or hard it is to stick to a daily routine.

Make Your List

One helpful activity is to make a list of the things that you normally do during the day. Include everything from work to meal preparation to household chores. Once you have an idea of the basic tasks you need to accomplish, you can start creating a general outline for what you might need to accomplish each day to stay on track.

Stress can make it hard to concentrate, so outlining these daily activities can help you better focus on what’s important.

While its important to get the essentials done, be sure to find things that you can look forward to, whether it’s watching a favorite television show or calling up a friend. Making these little rewards a part of your routine can help you stay upbeat and focused when you are working on a task that you might not enjoy as much.

Find What Works for You

Is it better to have a structured daily schedule or just a general to-do list for the day? Some people might thrive with a highly structured daily schedule that outlines activities in specific blocks of time , while others might do well with a loose list of things they need to get done in the day.

How do you decide which approach is right for you? Consider your motivations as well as what you need to get done. “If it is something that is of high importance and needs to get done on a specific day, then scheduling it into your routine and carving out that time may be necessary to make sure it gets accomplished,” Goldman recommends.

In other words, deliberately schedule a specific time to take care of those high priority tasks. Knowing that you have that time set aside for those tasks will leave you free to focus on using the rest of your time effectively. Goldman also suggests that it may be helpful to schedule things that you may not be motivated to do.

When we don’t feel motivated to do things, it is very easy to procrastinate doing them and they will continue to get pushed for the next day and the next day.

Knowing that you need to do those tasks at a certain time on a certain day will help keep you on track and hopefully overcome the urge to just keep putting them off.

Remember It Takes Time and Practice

Just like trying to create a new habit , starting and sticking to a new routine takes some time and effort. You know yourself best, so if something doesn't seem to be working, try tweaking your schedule to make it work for your needs.

Goldman recommends paying attention to how you feel throughout the day in order to determine what times of day you are the most productive. "If you feel like each day you feel unmotivated and lethargic at a certain time, then that is a sign that you may need a mental break at that time," she says.

When you find yourself in those moments, think about what you might need to feel better and get motivated. That might mean that you need to take a break, go for a walk, have a snack, or spend some time working on a hobby.

Structure your day to make the most of the natural ebb and flow of your energy levels. You'll get more done and ensure that you're getting what you need in terms of rest and relaxation.

“Plans don’t always go as planned, though, so remember to be kind to yourself,” says Goldman. “This is not the time to put extra pressure and expectations on yourself. It's not easy to create new routines, or add structure to a day, when our lives feel completely disrupted and turned upside down, so it may take some time to get used to this "new" routine and be able to feel accomplished.”

What This Means For You

While having a routine is important, give yourself some flexibility and don’t beat yourself up if you have trouble sticking to your own schedule. Everyone copes with stress differently. Having a routine can help you maintain a sense of normalcy and focus through tough times, but don’t stress yourself out more if you sometimes deviate from your plans.

The Importance of Self-Care Routines

The Importance of Self-Care Routines

Self-care is consciously engaging in activities and behaviors that preserve or improve one’s mental and physical health. In today’s fast-paced world, self-care has become increasingly important to manage stress, prevent burnout, and maintain overall well-being.

An essential aspect of self-care is disease prevention . This approach focuses on maintaining health and preventing disease rather than treating symptoms after they appear. Regular health checkups and screenings are important components of preventive care, allowing for early detection and intervention of potential health issues.

This article explores the importance of establishing self-care routines and provides practical tips for incorporating self-care into daily life.

Why Self-Care Routines Are Essential For Health and Well-Being

The benefits of self-care routines.

In recent years, there has been a significant shift in how we view mental health and its impact on our overall well-being. This growing awareness has highlighted the critical role that self-care plays in maintaining good mental health.

Mental Health Benefits

Regular self-care practices can significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to decrease or eliminate anxiety and depression symptoms, lower stress levels, and increase overall happiness.

One survey has shown that self-care activities can boost self-confidence (64 percent), increase productivity (67 percent), and enhance happiness (71 percent) among participants.

Furthermore, the “Joy Pie” project , which included five self-care strategies, improved mental health among college students by enhancing their belief in their ability to perform self-care behaviors and regulate negative emotions.

Self-care activities like exercise and proper sleep contribute to better mental health . Regular physical activity can elevate mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, while good sleep quality is linked to a lower risk of mood disorders.

Physical Health Benefits

Self-care routines such as exercise and proper sleep significantly improve physical health. Regular physical activity is associated with improved sleep quality , including increased sleep duration, better sleep efficiency, and fewer awakenings after sleep onset.

Physical exercise also improves cardiovascular risk factors , including diabetes, dyslipidemia, and obesity. Exercise enhances platelet function and reduces oxidative stress, contributing to better vascular health.

Introducing dietary modifications alongside exercise can also effectively manage chronic conditions like endometriosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease .

Emotional and Social Benefits

One study found that self-care promotes emotional well-being by mitigating stress and enhancing personal wellness, increasing job satisfaction, and reducing physical symptoms of stress.

Self-care also plays a role in reducing burnout . It is important to set boundaries, take breaks, and engage in activities that promote relaxation and personal fulfillment.

Incorporating Preventive Medicine In Self-Care

The role of annual health checkups.

Regular health checkups allow for the early identification of diseases such as cancer , cardiovascular diseases, and other chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Early detection often leads to better treatment outcomes and can prevent the progression of diseases.

‍ Studies show that individuals who participate in annual health checks have lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure, which helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, monitoring BMI during annual checkups can help predict and manage metabolic disorders, which is essential for preventing conditions like diabetes and hypertension .

Importance of Health Screenings

Health screenings play a crucial role in preventive healthcare and are essential to a comprehensive self-care routine. Regular screenings can detect potential health issues before they become serious, leading to early intervention and improved health outcomes.

Specific screenings such as mammograms for breast cancer, colonoscopies for colorectal cancer, and blood tests for diabetes and cholesterol are vital for the early detection of life-threatening diseases. Ezra offers an annual screening service that can screen for cancers, potentially detecting them early.

Integrating Preventive Practices Into Daily Life

Integrating preventive practices into daily self-care routines is vital for overall health and well-being. To make these practices a seamless part of everyday life, consider the following strategies:

  • Create a health calendar that includes reminders for regular check-ups, screenings, and vaccinations based on age and risk factors. Incorporate brief health assessments into your morning or evening routine, such as checking your blood pressure or performing self-exams.
  • Make preventive practices more engaging by pairing them with enjoyable activities . For example, schedule a health screening and a lunch date with a friend. This positive association can help reinforce the importance of these practices.
  • Viewing preventive care as an essential investment in long-term health rather than a burdensome task can shift perspective and increase motivation

Common Self-Care Practices to Incorporate

Mindfulness and meditation.

Mindfulness-based interventions have been found to increase emotional clarity , improve emotion processing , and reduce emotional intensity , leading to enhanced mental clarity and emotional balance.

Starting mindfulness can be simple and rewarding:

  • Choose a quiet space: Find a comfortable spot where you can sit or lie down without distractions. This will help you focus and relax.
  • Set aside time: Dedicate a specific time each day for your mindfulness. Start with a few minutes and gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable.
  • Focus on your breath: Begin by taking deep breaths . Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This helps to center your mind and body.
  • Practice mindful observation: Engage in mindful moments throughout the day. This can be as simple as savoring your morning coffee or noticing sounds around you.
  • Use guided meditations: Consider using apps or online resources that offer guided meditations . These can provide structure and support as you develop your practice.
  • Be patient and kind to yourself: Remember that mindfulness is a skill that takes time to develop. Don’t judge your thoughts; acknowledge them and return your focus to the present moment.  ‍
  • Incorporate mindfulness into daily activities: Try integrating mindfulness into routine tasks, such as walking, eating, or washing dishes.

Nutrition and Hydration

Nutrition and hydration are fundamental aspects of self-care, assisting in maintaining physical health, mental clarity, and emotional well-being.

To integrate healthy eating into daily life, plan meals in advance to ensure balanced nutrition, keep nutrient-dense snacks readily available, practice mindful eating, incorporate a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, and keep a water bottle handy to stay hydrated.

How to Create a Self-Care Routine That Works For You

Assessing your needs and priorities.

Self-care is highly personal, and identifying your unique needs is crucial for developing an effective self-care routine .

  • Conduct a self-audit: Regularly evaluate different aspects of your life, including physical health, emotional well-being, relationships, and work-life balance.

Overcoming Common Barriers

Many people struggle to prioritize self-care due to time constraints, lack of motivation, financial concerns, and feeling overwhelmed. These can be overcome by scheduling self-care activities like appointments, reframing self-care as essential for overall well-being rather than selfishness, setting specific, achievable goals, exploring free or low-cost self-care options, and starting with a tiny, consistent self-care habit.

Remember, overcoming barriers to self-care is a process. Be patient and persistent in developing sustainable self-care habits.

Is India a Safe Place for Women? Another Brutal Killing Raises the Question.

The rape and murder of a trainee doctor at her own hospital has brought up, once again, uncomfortable truths about a country that wants to be a global leader.

Young women protesting with raised fists and holding a banner saying “we want justice”

By Anupreeta Das and Sameer Yasir

In December 2012, a 23-year-old physiotherapy student boarded a bus in New Delhi a little after 9 p.m., expecting it would take her home. Instead, she was gang-raped and assaulted so viciously with an iron rod that her intestines were damaged. She died days later as India erupted in rage.

Nearly 12 years later, the nation is convulsing with anger once again — this time, over the ghastly rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in a Kolkata hospital, as she rested in a seminar room after a late-night shift. Since the Aug. 9 killing, thousands of doctors have gone on strike to demand a safer work environment and thousands more people have taken to the streets to demand justice.

For a country desperate to be seen as a global leader, repeated high-profile cases of brutal sexual assaults highlight an uncomfortable truth: India, by many measures , remains one of the world’s most unsafe places for women. Rape and domestic violence are relatively common, and conviction rates are low.

This week, the Supreme Court of India took up the Kolkata case as one of fundamental rights and safety, questioning how hospital administrators and police officers had handled it and saying new protective measures were needed. “The nation cannot wait for another rape and murder for real changes on the ground,” Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said.

Gender-related violence is hardly unique to India. But even as millions of Indian women have joined the urban work force in the past decade, securing their financial independence and helping to fuel the country’s rapid growth, they are still often left to bear the burden of their own safety.

Longstanding customs that both repress women and in many cases confine them to the home have made their safety in public spaces an afterthought. It can be dangerous for a woman to use public transportation, especially at night, and sexual harassment occurs frequently on the streets and in offices. Mothers tell their daughters to be watchful. Brothers and husbands drop their sisters and wives off at work.

As a Teenager in Europe, I Went to Nudist Beaches All the Time. 30 Years Later, Would the Experience Be the Same?

Image may contain Princess Antonia of Luxembourg Sandro Botticelli Art Painting Adult Person and Wedding

In July 2017, I wrote an article about toplessness for Vogue Italia. The director, actor, and political activist Lina Esco had emerged from the world of show business to question public nudity laws in the United States with 2014’s Free the Nipple . Her film took on a life of its own and, thanks to the endorsement from the likes of Miley Cyrus, Cara Delevingne, and Willow Smith, eventually developed into a whole political movement, particularly on social media where the hashtag #FreeTheNipple spread at lightning speed. The same year as that piece, actor Alyssa Milano tweeted “me too” and encouraged others who had been sexually assaulted to do the same, building on the movement activist Tarana Burke had created more than a decade earlier. The rest is history.

In that Vogue article, I chatted with designer Alessandro Michele about a shared memory of our favorite topless beaches of our youth. Anywhere in Italy where water appeared—be it the hard-partying Riviera Romagnola, the traditionally chic Amalfi coast and Sorrento peninsula, the vertiginous cliffs and inlets of Italy’s continuation of the French Côte d’Azur or the towering volcanic rocks of Sicily’s mythological Riviera dei Ciclopi—one was bound to find bodies of all shapes and forms, naturally topless.

In the ’90s, growing up in Italy, naked breasts were everywhere and nobody thought anything about it. “When we look at our childhood photos we recognize those imperfect breasts and those bodies, each with their own story. I think of the ‘un-beauty’ of that time and feel it is actually the ultimate beauty,” Michele told me.

Indeed, I felt the same way. My relationship with toplessness was part of a very democratic cultural status quo. If every woman on the beaches of the Mediterranean—from the sexy girls tanning on the shoreline to the grandmothers eating spaghetti al pomodoro out of Tupperware containers under sun umbrellas—bore equally naked body parts, then somehow we were all on the same team. No hierarchies were established. In general, there was very little naked breast censorship. Free nipples appeared on magazine covers at newsstands, whether tabloids or art and fashion magazines. Breasts were so naturally part of the national conversation and aesthetic that Ilona Staller (also known as Cicciolina) and Moana Pozzi, two porn stars, cofounded a political party called the Love Party. I have a clear memory of my neighbor hanging their party’s banner out his window, featuring a topless Cicciolina winking.

A lot has changed since those days, but also since that initial 2017 piece. There’s been a feminist revolution, a transformation of women’s fashion and gender politics, the absurd overturning of Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction in New York, the intensely disturbing overturning of Roe v Wade and the current political battle over reproductive rights radiating from America and far beyond. One way or another, the female body is very much the site of political battles as much as it is of style and fashion tastes. And maybe for this reason naked breasts seem to populate runways and street style a lot more than they do beaches—it’s likely that being naked at a dinner party leaves more of a permanent mark than being naked on a glamorous shore. Naked “dressing” seems to be much more popular than naked “being.” It’s no coincidence that this year Saint Laurent, Chloé, Ferragamo, Tom Ford, Gucci, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and Valentino all paid homage to sheer dressing in their collections, with lacy dresses, see-through tops, sheer silk hosiery fabric, and close-fitting silk dresses. The majority of Anthony Vaccarello’s fall 2024 collection was mostly transparent. And even off the runway, guests at the Saint Laurent show matched the mood. Olivia Wilde appeared in a stunning see-through dark bodysuit, Georgia May Jagger wore a sheer black halter top, Ebony Riley wore a breathtaking V-neck, and Elsa Hosk went for translucent polka dots.

In some strange way, it feels as if the trends of the ’90s have swapped seats with those of today. When, in 1993, a 19-year-old Kate Moss wore her (now iconic) transparent, bronze-hued Liza Bruce lamé slip dress to Elite Model Agency’s Look of the Year Awards in London, I remember seeing her picture everywhere and feeling in awe of her daring and grace. I loved her simple sexy style, with her otherworldly smile, the hair tied back in a bun. That very slip has remained in the collective unconscious for decades, populating thousands of internet pages, but in remembering that night Moss admitted that the nude look was totally unintentional: “I had no idea why everyone was so excited—in the darkness of Corinne [Day’s] Soho flat, the dress was not see-through!” That’s to say that nude dressing was usually mostly casual and not intellectualized in the context of a larger movement.

The Bride Reworked Her Late Mother’s Wedding Dress for Her Emotional Wedding in Portofino

But today nudity feels loaded in different ways. In April, actor and author Julia Fox appeared in Los Angeles in a flesh-colored bra that featured hairy hyper-realist prints of breasts and nipples, and matching panties with a print of a sewn-up vagina and the words “closed” on it, as a form of feminist performance art. Breasts , an exhibition curated by Carolina Pasti, recently opened as part of the 60th Venice Biennale at Palazzo Franchetti and showcases works that span from painting and sculpture to photography and film, reflecting on themes of motherhood, empowerment, sexuality, body image, and illness. The show features work by Cindy Sherman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Louise Bourgeois, and an incredible painting by Bernardino Del Signoraccio of Madonna dell’Umiltà, circa 1460-1540. “It was fundamental for me to include a Madonna Lactans from a historical perspective. In this intimate representation, the Virgin reveals one breast while nurturing the child, the organic gesture emphasizing the profound bond between mother and child,” Pasti said when we spoke.

Through her portrayal of breasts, she delves into the delicate balance of strength and vulnerability within the female form. I spoke to Pasti about my recent musings on naked breasts, which she shared in a deep way. I asked her whether she too noticed a disparity between nudity on beaches as opposed to the one on streets and runways, and she agreed. Her main concern today is around censorship. To Pasti, social media is still far too rigid around breast exposure and she plans to discuss this issue through a podcast that she will be launching in September, together with other topics such as motherhood, breastfeeding, sexuality, and breast cancer awareness.

With summer at the door, it was my turn to see just how much of the new reread on transparency would apply to beach life. In the last few years, I noticed those beaches Michele and I reminisced about have grown more conservative and, despite being the daughter of unrepentant nudists and having a long track record of militant topless bathing, I myself have felt a bit more shy lately. Perhaps a woman in her 40s with two children is simply less prone to taking her top off, but my memories of youth are populated by visions of bare-chested mothers surveilling the coasts and shouting after their kids in the water. So when did we stop? And why? When did Michele’s era of “un-beauty” end?

In order to get back in touch with my own naked breasts I decided to revisit the nudist beaches of my youth to see what had changed. On a warm day in May, I researched some local topless beaches around Rome and asked a friend to come with me. Two moms, plus our four children, two girls and two boys of the same ages. “Let’s make an experiment of this and see what happens,” I proposed.

The kids all yawned, but my friend was up for it. These days to go topless, especially on urban beaches, you must visit properties that have an unspoken nudist tradition. One of these in Rome is the natural reserve beach at Capocotta, south of Ostia, but I felt a bit unsure revisiting those sands. In my memory, the Roman nudist beaches often equated to encounters with promiscuous strangers behind the dunes. I didn’t want to expose the kids, so, being that I am now a wise adult, I went ahead and picked a compromise. I found a nude-friendly beach on the banks of the Farfa River, in the rolling Sabina hills.

We piled into my friend’s car and drove out. The kids were all whining about the experiment. “We don’t want to see naked mums!” they complained. “Can’t you just lie and say you went to a nudist beach?”

We parked the car and walked across the medieval fairy-tale woods until we reached the path that ran along the river. All around us were huge trees and gigantic leaves. It had rained a lot recently and the vegetation had grown incredibly. We walked past the remains of a Roman road. The colors all around were bright green, the sky almost fluorescent blue. The kids got sidetracked by the presence of frogs. According to the indications, the beach was about a mile up the river. Halfway down the path, we bumped into a couple of young guys in fanny packs. I scanned them for signs of quintessential nudist attitude, but realized I actually had no idea what that was. I asked if we were headed in the right direction to go to “the beach”. They nodded and gave us a sly smile, which I immediately interpreted as a judgment about us as mothers, and more generally about our age, but I was ready to vindicate bare breasts against ageism.

We reached a small pebbled beach, secluded and bordered by a huge trunk that separated it from the path. A group of girls was there, sharing headphones and listening to music. To my dismay they were all wearing the tops and bottoms of their bikinis. One of them was in a full-piece bathing suit and shorts. “See, they are all wearing bathing suits. Please don’t be the weird mums who don’t.”

At this point, it was a matter of principle. My friend and I decided to take our bathing suits off completely, if only for a moment, and jumped into the river. The boys stayed on the beach with full clothes and shoes on, horrified. The girls went in behind us with their bathing suits. “Are you happy now? my son asked. “Did you prove your point?”

I didn’t really know what my point actually was. I think a part of me wanted to feel entitled to those long-gone decades of naturalism. Whether this was an instinct, or as Pasti said, “an act that was simply tied to the individual freedom of each woman”, it was hard to tell. At this point in history, the two things didn’t seem to cancel each other out—in fact, the opposite. Taking off a bathing suit, at least for my generation who never had to fight for it, had unexpectedly turned into a radical move and maybe I wanted to be part of the new discourse. Also, the chances of me going out in a fully sheer top were slim these days, but on the beach it was different. I would always fight for an authentic topless experience.

After our picnic on the river, we left determined to make our way—and without children—to the beaches of Capocotta. In truth, no part of me actually felt very subversive doing something I had been doing my whole life, but it still felt good. Once a free breast, always a free breast.
