5 Ways to Put PowerPoint Presentation on Web

Want to share your original and creative presentations with others all over the world? Putting PowerPoint presentation on Web sounds a good idea. Especially in this era of Internet on which everyone can view various resources using their computers.

Here are 5 different ways to put PowerPoint presentation on Web. Each way has its cons and pros.

Method 1 Upload and link PowerPoint File directly

Yes, you could just upload PowerPoint file to your web site and link to it. Visitors click and download the file to view the presentation on their computers.

Visitors should download the presentation before viewing.

Visitors should install

to view it.

The presentation file may have a big file size.

Just upload your presentation to your Website and link to it.

Share your presentation with all the animations and special effects.

Method 2 Share presentation on Slideshare.net

Slideshare.net is a famous presentation sharing website. Think of it as something like YouTube for slide shows. You can upload your presentations in PPT, PPS or POT formats to SlideShare and they’re converted into shared media.

All the animations, multimedia files in the presentation will disappear.

The presentation can be viewed on any computers.

Method 3 Publish as HTML web page

PowerPoint lets you save your presentation as HTML, as a web page (Office button -> Save As -> Other Formats, and then choose Web Page in the “Save as type” pull-down menu).

Each slide is saved as a separate image, with its own page, so you have to upload an entire folder of files to your server.

It will not display properly for website visitors who aren’t using IE.

Free open source software may be a stronger choice in this instance. OpenOffice Impress , the PowerPoint look-alike from http://www.OpenOffice.org , lets you create a PPT presentation from scratch, and it will also convert an existing PowerPoint presentation to HTML in a form that’s compatible with a broader range of browsers.

Method 4 Flash it using Wondershare PPT2Flash

Actually, OpenOffice even offers to export your presentation as a Flash (SWF) format, but animations will disappear.

Wondershare PPT2Flash, an add-in of PowerPoint, lets you convert PowerPoint presentation to Flash with one-click.

3 steps to convert your presentation to Flash:

Download and install PPT2Flash -> Import PowerPoint presentation -> Click “Publish” to convert.

Flash can be shown properly on any computers.

The conversion retains all the animations, hyperlinks, multimedia file in your presentation.

Flash is difficult to modify .

Method 5 Record it using Camtasia Studio

Download and install Comtasia (http://www.techsmith.com) on your computer and then follow the steps below.

Step 1, save your PPT file as PPS file.

Step 2, Set Camtasia studio to record the whole screen.

Step 3, Play your PowerPoint PPS file and Press “F9” to start recording the screen.

Step 4, when you reach your last blank slide, Press F10 to tell Camtasia Recorder to stop recording. You will be prompted to save the captured slideshow, so choose a directory and enter filename.

Step 5, save your capture in SWF format.

It will a little time-consuming if there are many slides in your presentation.

Best way to publish your presentation on Web

If you want to make animated and protected presentation on Web in minutes, converting PowerPoint to Flash using Wondershare PPT2Flash sounds downright elegant!

Showing a Flash movie on web is most often as easy as uploading your SWF file to your web space and using a few lines of object / embed code (http://www.w3schools.com/flash/flash_inhtml.asp) to embed the file on your page.

Camtasia can record the screen and sound when your play your PowerPoint, but should pay $299 to buy which is higher than PPT2Flash ($59.95). For Mac users, you can upload your presentation to slideshare.net . If you only want to create static presentation on web, using OpenOffice to export your presentation to HTML or Flash would be better.

How to embed a PowerPoint presentation into a website or blog

Do you want to know how to add a powerpoint presentation to your website or blog without having to upload multiple slide images or a video of the entire presentation .

In this guide, I'll show you how to make your presentation more interactive and engaging for your audience on the web. I'll explain how to upload your presentation slideshow directly to your blog, so your readers can enjoy all the functions of a PowerPoint presentation directly on your website or blog page.

To help you understand better, I'll show you an example of a presentation that has already been uploaded to this blog. With the help of PowerPoint for the Web, you can make your presentations more accessible and engaging for your audience. So, let me guide you through the process of seamlessly integrating your PowerPoint presentation into your website or blog.

The only version of PowerPoint that allows users to create embed code is PowerPoint for the Web .

Historically, consumers were able to save a presentation as a video and embed it onto a website. But it wasn't the same as allowing readers to click through the slides, and download if needed. Microsoft heard from their clients and added the ability to embed the web application into the latest iteration of PowerPoint (for Web). With that said, let's check out this feature from Microsoft!

Let's get started Embedding!

Now that you've seen what a PowerPoint looks like once embedded, let's get into the process of completing the task at hand.

Begin by opening the PowerPoint 365 Web Application (link here !)   Note* You may need to sign into your Microsoft Office account before you start.

After the site is open, select the presentation you'd like to embed into your website if already uploaded (or start from scratch).

If you haven't uploaded your presentation to PowerPoint for the web, choose the upload option.

Okay, once you've upload or selected your PowerPoint file it will load into the PowerPoint web application.

Next, click "File" from the upper left corner of PowerPoint and select "Share" from the options on the left side.

Then, select "Embed" from the two option on the right.

The default embed code in my PowerPoint is 476 x 288.  As a rule, 610 x 367 will fit on most websites comfortably, but if you want your viewer to have a full-screen experience, then 1186 x 691 dimensions would be preferable.  However, this option is customizable, so you can choose any size you desire.

Copy the Embed Code and paste it into the body of your website or blog.

Last, but not least, be sure to save the code in your site or blog, and voila! You've successfully embedded a PowerPoint presentation into your website.

In this blog post, you will learn how to easily convert your PowerPoint slides into interactive and engaging web-enabled presentations using HTML5.

What you’ll need You will need a Windows PC/laptop or a Mac and a copy of Adobe Captivate. ( You can download a free 30 day trial of Adobe Captivate here. )

Step 1 Create a PowerPoint slide deck in Microsoft PowerPoint and save it. Remember where you saved your PowerPoint slide deck.

Step 2 Open Adobe Captivate. If you are on a Mac, you’ll find your installed version of Captivate under Applications. If you are on a Windows computer, you’ll find it under the Start Menu.

Step 4 A dialog box will open. Chose the PowerPoint slide deck.

Step 6 Select File: Publish from the menus.

Step 7 In the Publish dialog, select the SWF/HTML5 tab (top left). Then set the output format to HTML5 (you can turn off SWF.) Finally, click Publish.

Your published HTML5 web page will now be available. But if you’ve never worked with HTML or HTML5 before it might not look the way you expected. Web pages are stored as individual elements (like graphics etc.) and a set of instructions in a text file that is usually called ‘index.html’

To put your new web slide show online you’ll want to copy the folder with your converted PowerPoint deck into your web server. By Default, Captivate publishes files into a folder called ‘My Adobe Captivate Projects’ in your Documents folder. Here’s a view of the PowerPoint that I just published, shown as a folder inside that directory.

I am just discovering Captivate. I am wondering how to use Captivate to convert pptx files to editable HTML5. I tried publishing a few files, but all my custom shows were lost. All Captivate did was make my slides into un-editable graphics that displayed sequentially, instead of in the shows I set up. It also removed all my links in the slides. Any way to make this work like a real PowerPoint show? Thanks.

I am new to it too.. I am trying to publish an animated PPT deck to html 5.. And not a single animation will work.. Even the most basic one.. life fade text in..

Is this discussion group still active? I’ve been trying to import Powerpoint 2011 Mac pptx into Captivate 7 but I get an error message? Is this a known issue and is there a fix? Anybody?

It does convert it to HTML5, but all of the animations/transitions are lost. What can be the reason? I am using the trial Captivate 7 for now.

Is it because there is no “High Fidelity” option? How do I enable it? Thanks!

If you’re converting it to HTML5 for the purpose of viewing the presentation on an iOS device, this issue is that the PowerPoint conversion process turns your PowerPoint animations into Flash SWF objects. Since Flash won’t play on an iOS device, you will not see the animations.

Hi, Diliara! Do you use any other platform besides Mac? There’s a great tool called iSpring which preserves all effects in pure HTML5, but it’s for Windows. Sorry if that doesn’t help the situation… (I do realize this is a pretty old post, so I hope you’ve found a solution by now!)

How to publish a PowerPoint presentation to the Web

PowerPoint can create an impressive Web site, if all conditions are just right. First, you create the presentation in PowerPoint on a local system. Then, you save the presentation to HTML format. Finally, you upload the HTML files to a Web server. But even though it seems easy, the road to Web success is riddled with potholes. That’s because a PowerPoint Web presentation works best in Internet Explorer (IE). If you can guarantee viewers will be using a recent version of IE, you’re in luck.

The basics of publishing to the Web

Publishing a presentation to the Web begins with converting the presentation to HTML as follows:

• With the presentation open in PowerPoint, choose Save As Web Page from the File menu.
• Using the Save In control in the resulting Save As dialog box, browse to the folder where you want to save your presentation. (If you can connect directly to the server, you can save the files to the server, which is considerably easier. But for most of us, that’s seldom an option.)
• Change the filename, if you want.
• From the Save As Type drop-down list, choose Single File Web Page or Standard Web Page. If you save your presentation as a standard Web page, PowerPoint will generate an HTML file and a folder that contains a number of additional files that the presentation needs. Saving your file as a single file Web page creates one file that contains everything. Don’t choose Single File Web Page unless you know what you’re doing.
• If you want to change the page title, click the Change Title button and update the text accordingly. This is what will appear in the browser’s title bar.
• Click Save.

The above process is easy, but often you’ll require a bit more flexibility to customize the resulting Web page(s). When this is the case, click the Publish button (in the Save As dialog box from step 1 above). The resulting Publish As Web Page, shown in Figure A , offers a number of options:

• Publish What?: Use these settings to specify exactly what goes to the Web. You can include all or a subset of slides. In addition, you can include your speaker notes. See Table A to view the many options available by clicking the Web Options button.
• Browser Support: Supporting older versions of Internet Explorer (IE) requires a larger file. There’s nothing wrong with forcing users to upgrade to see your presentation. The All Browsers Listed Above option will create a large file that’s slower to download. However, this option lets viewers see the presentation regardless of their IE version.
• Before publishing, you can also change the page title and the filename.

Use the Publish As Web Page options to customize your Web files.

Transferring your Web page to a Web server

If you have access to a Web server, you can save the presentation directly to it. However, most of us have to save the files to a local system and then move those files to a Web server. This process will be unique and specific to your ISP or your company’s intranet. Either way, you must contact the ISP or your network administrator for specific instructions. If you didn’t save the presentation as a single file, be sure you transfer all of the supporting files during this process.

You must create the same folder structure on the Web server and transfer the files exactly as they are on your local system. If you don’t, the slide show won’t work properly. This problem accounts for almost all missing graphics and broken links. All files must be in the same folder or subfolder and all files must retain the same names. Change nothing about the structure when transferring these files.

You can test the new Web page at just about any time. You don’t even have to save your presentation to view it as a Web page. For a quick preview, select Web Page Preview from PowerPoint’s File menu. PowerPoint will open the presentation, slide by slide, in your default browser. When you’re done, simply close your browser. After you publish the Web page, test the results thoroughly:

• Check for missing pages and graphics. If anything’s missing, you probably didn’t transfer all the supporting files properly.
• Test all links using a computer other than the one you used to save the presentation to a Web page. That way, if something’s linking to your computer, you’ll find the mistake. In addition, remember that links break quickly and often. Check them frequently.
• View your Web site in as many different browsers as you can.
• View your Web site using every possible resolution setting.
• View your Web site using both a Windows PC and a Mac, if possible.
• View your Web site using an operating system other than Windows, if possible.
• Test your Web site using different connections. You might want to change or even eliminate elements that slow things down.

If you’re publishing your presentation to a controlled environment where you know the operating system, browser, and resolution, you don’t have to be as thorough.

The devil’s in the details

Publishing a PowerPoint presentation to the Web seems easy enough, but you’ll seldom get what you expect. There are a number of limitations:

• Use the most recent version of IE possible. If you must support older versions of IE, consider creating additional versions of your presentation for older browsers. It’s difficult to get anything but the most basic presentation to run well on all versions of IE.
• Only IE supports the single file format. Don’t use it unless you know viewers will always be using IE.
• Don’t expect to get it right the first time. Start with the default settings, unless you know up front that a default isn’t adequate. Then, rework the presentation as needed.

PowerPoint to the Web

Although PowerPoint can transfer a presentation to the Web, the results can be disappointing. The biggest issue is the viewer’s environment. When you are sure viewers will use IE, PowerPoint Web pages are stable and effective. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to support a PowerPoint Web presentation in any browser other than IE. Public viewers may be very dissatisfied with what they see, regardless of how you hard you try to accommodate other browsers.

Embed a Powerpoint in a Web Page

Is there any way to embed a PowerPoint slide show in an HTML page using just the standard tags etc? I tried using a iframe, but that just results in the PowerPoint being downloaded.

I am looking for a way to show the slide show using only standard stuff. I realize I could use google docs or flash or something, but I'd rather have a simple implementation.

Does the web just not know how to process a PowerPoint presentation?

Plain and simple...this is the best method to embed any Microsoft or Adobe file into a HTML website.

Just to update this question - as there is a new way to embed Powerpoints in a web page. If you have an account on OneDrive , do the following using Powerpoint Online (accessing Powerpoint via the browser) to embed a Powerpoint:

Web browsers don't understand power point, but there are solutions besides Flash.

You could export it to HTML or a PDF. Or you could also upload to site like slideshare and make use of their players which are built for this problem.

I have decided to take a hack route and upload the powerpoint onto YouTube and then just include the youtube video in the iframe.

I know, it's cheap, but it's also easy.

I eventually checked my page as XHTML Strict, which does not support the <iframe> tag. So I used the object tag instead.

I tried answer posted by Shane, which looks exactly right and how MS used to have PPT viewing online earlier but it didn't worked for me. After doing some research I found out that the link has changed a bit.

I was able to do this by saving the PPT as an mp4 (Save As > MPEG-4 Video (*.mp4)) and then using the video tag.

If you are using Google slides you could easily publish it on the web and also embed the slide in an iframe.

and then in your HTML file use the below code to show slides in fullscreen mode.

There's not a simple way to fully convert a multimedia HTML file into a PowerPoint presentation. Much of the Hypertext Markup Language is referential, meaning that the text code points to content that's elsewhere, so when it's imported into PowerPoint, the linked content is lost. If you want to import an outline that was originally created using HTML, PowerPoint can format the text and automatically create slides based on the heading level of each section. But if you want to capture the visual representation of the HTML, use the screenshot tool in PowerPoint to insert a picture of the website.

Insert Outline

Launch PowerPoint. Click the arrow under "New Slide" on the "Home" tab.

Select "Slides from Outline" at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Navigate to your HTML or HTM file and double-click to insert it into PowerPoint. PowerPoint will insert the text into slides in the presentation.

Launch PowerPoint and click on the "Insert" tab.

Launch your Web browser to the HTML that you want to convert into PowerPoint.

Click the "Screenshot" button in the Images section in PowerPoint. A thumbnail representation of each window you have open will appear. Click on the thumbnail for your Web browser. A picture will be inserted onto the slide.

Click "Screenshot" and select "Screen Clipping" from the drop-down list. PowerPoint will minimize and your mouse pointer will turn into a crosshatch. Click and drag on the screen to select the area you want to insert as a picture into PowerPoint. Use this option if you don't want the address bar of your browser to appear in the image.

Repeat for each section of the HTML you want to display in your PowerPoint presentation.

PowerPoint's animations and transitions can help you grab your audience's attention, present information in bite-sized chunks, and—when used sparingly—deliver a more professional presentation. In this article, we'll run through the nuts and bolts of these useful PowerPoint tools.

Animations are effects you can add to your slides' text, pictures, shapes, graphics, tables, and other elements. There are four different types of animations:

• Entrance animations—These are the effects you can add to make an object appear on your slide in different ways.
• Emphasis animations—You can add an emphasis animation to an object already visible on your slide, such as changing its size or color.
• Exit animations—The opposite to entrance animations, exit animations make objects disappear from your slide through different effects.
• Motion paths animations —You can make an element on your slide move to a different place, with your audience seeing this movement from where it started to where it ends up.

You can use more than one animation on a single object. For example, you can apply an entrance animation to some text, followed by an emphasis animation.

A transition effect dictates how your presentation progresses from one slide to the next, and you can choose from three different levels of complexity:

• Subtle—These are the most basic types of transitions in PowerPoint, aiding speed and slickness as you jump from one slide to the next.
• Exciting—You can make your transitions more visually entertaining.
• Dynamic—A dynamic transition applies to all parts of a slide, except for the background, giving the illusion that the content is rolling through on a single page.

Only one transition effect can be added to each slide, and it's important that you apply the transition to the slide that will be visible once the transition is complete. For example, if you have two slides and want to create a transition effect as you move from slide 1 to slide 2, you will need to apply the transition to slide 2.

Before you add animation and transition effects to your PowerPoint presentation, bear in mind the following tips:

• Don't add too many animations and transitions . Overusing these features can distract your audiences in ways you didn't intend to, and they can also look tacky and unprofessional. Ask yourself, "Does this make my presentation better?" If the answer is no, don't add it.
• Another issue with using too many animations and transitions is that it could significantly slow down your PowerPoint file's processing speed , as it adds volume to your file size.
• Keep things professional in the right contexts. For example, if you're presenting a formal business plan, you don't want to add funky transitions that take ten seconds to complete. Try sticking to slick effects that last less than a second.
• Use the same transition effect for each slide and, if you can, the same animation for each item.

It's a widely shared opinion that Microsoft 365's desktop apps offer more flexibility and functionality than their web-based counterparts. However, the exact opposite can be said for adding animations, which is significantly easier to do on PowerPoint for the web than via the subscription-only app. So, to create the animations for screenshots in this section, we have used PowerPoint online, rather than the desktop app, and we recommend that you do the same.

Before you add any animations, click "Animation Pane" in the Animations tab on the ribbon. This will open a pane on the right side of your window, which will make seeing and managing your animations much easier.

Now, select the item you want to animate. If you want several items on a slide to animate in the same way at the same time, hold Ctrl while clicking them all. Then, click the down arrow in the Animations tab, and choose the appropriate effect.

You will then see an animation card in the Animation Pane for the effect you just added. Here, you can change the animation type, how it is activated (whether via a click, with the previous animation, or after the previous animation), and the duration and delay.

If you have more than one animation on a slide and want to reorder them, click and drag the six dots next to the relevant animation card upwards or downwards.

Finally, to remove an animation, click the trash icon on the appropriate animation card.

You can also animate paragraphs of text within a text box. To do so, select the relevant text, and follow the same process.

Whether you're using PowerPoint's desktop app or the online version of the program, adding transitions involves a very similar process.

First, select the slide you want to transition to (for example, you'll select slide 2 if you want to create a transition from slide 1 to slide 2) in the slide thumbnail pane, and then click the "Transitions" tab on the ribbon.

To see more transitions, click the down arrow on the right-hand side of the Transition To This Slide group.

Clicking any of the transition effects on display will do two things—first, it will show you a preview of what that transition will look like, and second, it will apply that transition to that slide.

You can then amend the options (such as the direction of the transition) and timing of the transition using the settings on the right side of the Transitions tab. This is where you can also add a sound effect to the transition, or decide whether the transition effect occurs when you click your mouse or automatically after a given length of time.

If you want to apply the same transition effect and options to all slides, click "Apply To All" in the Timing group of the Transition tab when you have finished setting up your transition's parameters. You can then select individual slides to make further adjustments if needed.

To remove a transition, select the slide in the slide thumbnail pane, and click "None" in the Transitions tab.

PowerPoint's Morph is a transition effect that recognizes differences between the same items on two slides, and smoothly transitions between them when you proceed from one slide to the next. For example, you might have an image on slide 1, and the same image in a different position on slide 2. The morph transition gives your audience the impression that you're still on the same slide, but the objects are merely moving and resizing.

This is different to the motion path animation, which you can set for different items and activate at different times on your slide. The morph transition, however, moves all items together as you move from one slide to the next, saving you from having to apply motion path animations to individual objects. Any objects on the first slide but not the second will simply fade away during the morph transition. Similarly, any new items on the second slide will appear gradually.

In this example, we have a title and an image on slide 1, and the same objects on slide 2 but in different places and different sizes. We created this scenario by copying and pasting the whole of slide 1, and then changing the text and image on slide 2. However, you can also create a blank slide, and then copy and paste the different elements you want to morph.

Then, we need to select slide 2, and click "Morph" in the Transitions tab on the ribbon.

Then, press F5 to see your presentation, and witness the smooth morph transition from one slide to the next. You can also use this transition effect to zoom into an image or fade an image into the background. Just ensure that you copy and paste from one slide to the next before you create the transition, so that PowerPoint recognizes them as the same.
