My Experiments with Truth is a chapter in Class 6 DAV English Literature book. This chapter revolves around Mahatma Gandhiji and his life incidents. Question 1: Which two books inspired Gandhiji a lot during his childhood?

Ans1: Shravan Pitrabhakti Natak (  play about Shravan’s devotion towards his parents) and Harishachandra, these two books inspired Gandhiji a lot during his childhood.

Question 2: Pick out the extract from the text which tells that Gandhiji was punctual.

Ans 2: He used to be a shy student and was very punctual for his school. He always reached school on time and returned back home on time. This shows that he was a punctual student.

Question 3:Why did Gandhji dislike Games and gymnastics?

Ans 3: We can infer this from the fact that he never took part in any exercise in school hours. He only joined gymnastics when it was made compulsary for all the students. Gandhiji used to think that exercises had nothing to do with the education but later he realized the importance of physical training.

Another reason was that he he had to reach home fast so that he could serve his father as soon as possible. Every day after his school he used to hurry towards his home so that he could serve his father.

Question 4: What made Gandhiji ashamed of himself during his visit to South Africa?

Gandhiji had a poor handwriting. When he visited Sout Africa, he saw beautiful handwritings for lawyers and young men. Seeing this, he felt ashamed of himself. He thought that he should have paid attention to his handwriting in his school days.

Question 5: Why did Gandhiji steal gold from his brother’s armlet?

Ans 5: Gandhiji stole gold from his brother’s armlet because he was in a debt of twenty five rupees and he thought by selling a bit of gold he could pay the debt on his head.

Question 6: Why did he confess his guilt to his father? How did he make the confession?

He stole gold from his brother’s armlet but he could not bear the guilt of stealing. He felt heavy and thought of confessing to his father. He felt ashamed of himself.

To confess his sin, he wrote it on a paper. He also wrote that he should be given adequate punishment and also assured that he will never repeat his in future. He felt sorry and with shivering hands handed the paper to his father.

Question 7: What according to Gandhiji is the purest type of repentence?

Ans 7: According to Gandhiji, the purest type of repentence is: A clean confession with a promise of never doing the sin again in future.

Ans 1: He who is truthful will do no evil. It conveys that a person who is truthgful will always be strong from within. he will never think of doing any wrong to anyone.

He will have a pure heart and will think thrice before doing any sin. He will always try to speak truth. Speaking lies lowers our self esteem and we start losing our self respect and confidence. Truth always gives you confidence.

Question 2: Confessing one’s mistake to one’s parents gre at mental strength. Would you describe Gandhiji as a brave boy?

Ans 2: Yes, it is true that it takes a lot of courage to confess one’s mistake in front of the parents. You need a lot of mental strength for doing this. One has a fear of getting scolded and that guilt feeling.

Yes, Gandhiji was a brave boy. He could easily hide his sin and no one could know but he believed in the power of truth. He made up the mind to confess to his father. He was very ashamed and promised his father that he will never do any such thing in future. He was ready for a harsh punishment.

Physical training is as important as mental training. 

Ans: Physical training is as important as mental training. A healthy mind can only stay in a healthy body. We should also focus on our physical fitness with mental health. If your body is unhealthy you will not be able to concentrate better on your work or studies.

A fit body helps us to keep our mind healthy. If you care about your body people will appreciate it. A healthy body is a sign that you care about yourself.

A lot of profession requires the employees to be fit and active especially MNCs. They don’t want candidates that are lazy and low on energy levels. A fit body also improves our self confidence. It enhances our overall personality.
