This course is designed to prepare students for advanced quantitative methodology courses required of doctoral students. The course begins by reviewing descriptive statistics and data presentation techniques. In preparation for the study of inferential statistics, the next section of the course covers the basic of probability.
January 2023. This sixteen-hour course provides a comprehensive exploration of the scientific method, beginning with a detailed description of its steps, from posing a hypothesis to analyzing and reporting results. Students will learn to judge the quality of sources for literature reviews, ensuring they can discern credible information.
Syllabus 17.802 Quantitative Research Methods II. This is the second course in a three-course sequence on quantitative political methodology, by which we mean the application of statistical methods to problems in political science and public policy.
Indeed, this course demonstrates the ways in which research methods and statistics are related. Upon completion of this course, you should: Understand the logic of scientific explanation, including the relationship between theory and research. Be able to use statistical analyses to answer sociological and criminological research questions.
This course provides an overview of quantitative research methods, focusing on approaches central to undertaking quantitative studies in the various fields of public health.
Inference: Using facts you know to learn about facts you don’t know Specific statistical methods for many research problems How to learn (or create) new methods (Statistical simulation and programming as practical tools) How to write a publishable scholarly paper The syllabus gives an outline instead of a weekly plan.
