Apple Events 2024-2025: Next Apple Event could be October

Apple doesn’t participate in big industry-wide events such as CES or E3. The most valuable company in the world holds its own events, thank you very much. Several times a year, Apple invites the press and industry professionals to Apple Park to hear all about its latest products and services. Apple calls these ‘events,’ and streams them live online to millions of watchers.

So far in 2024, Apple has held three events: one on Tuesday, May 7, at which it launched new iPads, a keynote to kick off WWDC on June 10, when the features coming in the new operating systems iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia were revealed, and an event on September 9 at which it unveiled the new iPhone 16 , Apple Watch Series 10 and the new AirPods 4.

In 2023 there were three such events: WWDC in June, the Wonderlust iPhone event in September, and Apple’s second fall event on October 30 (or after midnight on October 31 if you weren’t in the U.S.). Similarly, in 2022 Apple held three events: a spring event on March 8, WWDC on June 6, and the iPhone 14 launch on September 7. In other years Apple has held four events though, and 2024 looks like it will be a four-event year for Apple.

When is Apple’s next event?

It’s not confirmed, but there is a possibility that Apple will hold an October event in 2024 . If it does then, based on previous October events, we expect that the event will be held on or around 28 October.

What time will the next Apple event start?

Apple keynotes usually start at 10 am PT. That translates to the following times in the countries where most of our readers live:

U.S.: at 10 am (PST/PDT), 11 am (MST/MDT), noon (CST/CDT), 1 pm (EST/EDT)
Canada: as above, and 2 pm (AST/ADT)
U.K.: at 6 pm (GMT/BST)
Europe: at 7pm (CET/CEST), 8 pm (EET/EEST)
India: at 10.30 pm (IST)
Australia: Next day at 1 am (AWST/AWDT), 2.30 am (ACST/ACDT), 3 am (AEST/AEDT)
New Zealand: Next day at 5 am (NZST/NZDT)

Sometimes Apple holds events at different times, for example, the October 2023 event was held at midnight in the U.K. If an October event is held around the time that clocks change it could mean that some of the above times are different.

How long does an Apple event last?

Apple keynotes usually last between one and two hours and feature CEO Tim Cook along with various other Apple executives. WWDC and the September event tend to be longer keynotes; the spring and late-fall events can be slightly shorter.

The September 2024 event was 1 hour 38 minutes.

When does Apple usually hold events?

Apple holds three or four live or live-streamed events throughout the year. During these events, the company unveils its latest products and plans during a keynote address. They are usually held during similar times of the year:

March/April: Spring event (in 2024 this was held in May)
June: WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference)
September: Fall event (aka iPhone and Apple Watch launch event)
October/November: Late-fall event(s)

This event calendar is by no means set in stone, though, with the spring and October events being less regular. Some years, Apple doesn’t hold a spring event at all, as was the case in 2023.

The summer and September events are more predictable, with software coming at WWDC in June and iPhones and Apple Watches in September. The October event often sees Apple launch new Macs, but this is another one that changes from year to year.

Here are the events we expect to see in the remainder of 2024, and what could launch.

There could be iPad and Mac events in October and/or November 2024. We are expecting updates to the iPad mini and standard iPad. Apple is also rumored to have a number of M4 Macs in the pipeline so updated as possible for the following:

Here are the dates of the past seven Apple spring events, as you can see, it’s not a regular occurrence, but a Spring event is held slightly more often than not.

As for what could be coming, there are rumors that Apple could launch a HomePod with a screen and it may be time for the iPhone SE to be updated.

WWDC 2024 took place from June 10-14 with the event, kicking the conference off at 10am on June 10, 2024.

Apple uses WWDC each year to unveil the latest versions of its operating systems, so in 2025 we’ll get a preview of iOS 19, iPadOS 19, macOS 16, watchOS 12, and tvOS 19, and an update to Apple’s realityOS.

Apple sometimes announces new hardware at WWDC, so we could see new Macs.

Following the keynote on the Monday, developer events and sessions will run throughout the week.

We are certain to get a preview of the new software, but what about hardware? Any of the Macs that don’t launch in October 2024 are likely to have been announced by June 2024, but if not, this is where we will see them.

iPhone 16 launch event –

Apple always holds an event in September, and almost always uses this to announce a new iPhone and Apple Watch. (The only exception in recent memory was in 2020, as a result of Covid-related production issues. That year the iPhone was announced in October, but there was still a September event.)

Everything Apple revealed at the iPhone 16 launch event: Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4, iOS 18 and more

If you didn't catch the event in real time, here are all of the details about apple's newest phones, smartwatches and earbuds..

September is here and, like clockwork, so are new iPhones. Apple unveiled its latest iPhone models at an event in Cupertino today, and as expected, the iPhone 16 handsets are largely iterative of last year's models. While the smartphones, standard and Pro versions, took center stage, Apple also showed off the new Apple Watch Series 10, two new pairs of AirPods and detailed hearing aid features coming to the second-generation AirPods Pro. The company also went into detail on its latest mobile chipsets that power the new iPhones, and reminded folks what they can expect when iOS 18 launches later this month with Apple Intelligence. iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

Apple unveiled the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus at the event, which feature a water- and dust-resistant design and new colors including ultramarine, teal and pink. The iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. Both of those can achieve up to 2,000 nits of brightness, and can go all the way down to 1 nit in the dark. The Action button has found its way to this series of iPhones as well, and it's just as customizable as the one we saw on last year's Pro-model iPhones.

There's also a new easy-access camera control "button" of sorts, which allows you to quickly control the camera with a slide of your finger. This tool can also tap into Visual Intelligence , an AI-powered feature coming in iOS 18 that can tell you more about anything you point your camera at. It appears similar to Google Lens, and can do things like add live event dates to your calendar after you point your camera at a flyer you see on the street. The camera array on the standard iPhone 16 models includes a 48-megapixel main Fusion camera, a 12MP telephoto lens and a new ultrawide camera with autofocus. This array will also be able to capture Spatial Photos that can be viewed on Apple's Vision Pro.

We confirmed in our hands-on text of the iPhone 16 that it has the same style of camera control button as the more expensive iPhone 16 Pro. It's a physical button, but haptics add another layer of feedback for when you make a "light press" rather than fully pressing the button down.

Both standard iPhone 16 models run on the new A18 chip , which has a 16-core neural engine optimized for generative models. The internals feature a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU, both of which will be crucial for powering all of the new Apple Intelligence features coming to iOS 18.

According to Apple, both the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus have larger batteries than their predecessors, and when combined with the efficiencies added from the A18 chipset and iOS 18 improvements, should make for a much longer-lasting battery lives overall (although Apple did not provide an exact estimate). Both the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are available for pre-order today starting at $799 and $899, respectively, and will be widely available on September 20.

The Pro series of iPhones includes the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max this year, which have 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch ProMotion, always-on displays, respectively. Both are made with Grade 5 Titanium, which Apple claims to be even lighter than stainless steel. These handsets will be available in four new colors: black, white, natural and desert, the latter of which resembles a dusty gold color.

According to the company, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are built from the ground up for Apple Intelligence, being able to take full advantage of all the new features coming in iOS 18. These handsets run on the new A18 Pro chipset, which takes advantage of 3nm transistors and is even faster and more efficient than the standard A18 chip found in the regular iPhone 16 lineup.

The rear camera array on both models includes a 48MP Fusion camera, 48MP ultrawide shooter and a 12MP telephoto lens. The main camera's improvements allow for 4K, 120fps video and slow-motion recording. Both phones also have the new camera control button that provides easier access to the camera and all of its tools, both for capture and editing. There are also four studio-quality microphones built in to both smartphones for improved audio capture, and they allow for Spatial Audio recording, too.

Both the iPhone 16 Pro series and the standard iPhone 16 handsets supports Qi2 wireless charging, and Apple will come out with new MagSafe charging cases that account for the new camera control button. The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will be available for pre-order on Friday, September 13, starting at $999 and $1,199, respectively. They'll be widely available on September 20.

AirPods 4 launched today during the iPhone 16 event, as rumors suggested. These have a redesigned bud shape that's suppose to fit more ear shapes and be more comfortable overall. They have the H2 chip inside, which will provide improved audio quality and enable features like Personalized Spatial Audio. The charging case has a USB-C port, and it's the smallest AirPods charging case to date.

In addition to the regular AirPods 4, there will be a second model that includes support for active noise cancellation and Transparency mode. Conversation Awareness will also automatically lower your media volume level when the buds detect you talking to someone. The standard AirPods 4 cost $129 and the AirPods 4 with ANC cost $179; both are available for pre-order today and will be widely available on September 20.

Apple didn’t reinvent the wheel with the updated AirPods Max . Instead, they’ll be available in a few new colors (midnight, blue, purple, orange and starlight) and support USB-C charging. The new colors can be pre-ordered today for $549 and will be widely available on September 20.

Apple announced new features coming to the second-gen AirPods Pro that are designed to help prevent (and increase awareness around) hearing loss. A feature called "Hearing Protection" will be turned on by default, and users will be able to take a clinically-validated hearing test to see if they already have some hearing loss. On top of that, AirPods Pro will have a clinical-grade hearing aid feature built-in as well, which will work with a hearing profile created after a user takes the hearing test.

Apple Watch Series 10

Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 10 today, the natural successor to last year’s Series 9. It has the biggest display and thinnest design ever on an Apple Watch, and the wide-angle OLED display is even a bit larger than that on the Apple Watch Ultra. The case has more rounded corners and a wider aspect ratio, both of which, combined with the larger screen, should provide more space to interact with graphics and text on the Watch. Apple claims the screen is 40 percent brighter when looked at from an angle, and it'll show a second hand ticking away even when your wrist is down.

The Apple Watch Series 10 is powered by the new S10 SiP chip, which Apple claims is built for performance, power efficiency and intelligence (i.e. Apple Intelligence). One example of Apple Intelligence at work on the Series 10 is the new Photos watch face, which will curate the best photos from your library and serve them up to you automatically.

When it comes to fitness features, Apple announced that the latest version of watchOS will allow the Series 10 to detect signs of sleep apnea, provided you're wearing your Series 10 to sleep regularly. Apple claims it's awaiting FDA clearance, and it expects the sleep apnea detection feature to launch in more than 150 countries. Elsewhere in the activity sphere, the Series 10 will have scuba tracking features and it will support the new Tides app in watchOS 11.

Another new feature is the ability to play audio directly from the Watch's speaker, which could be helpful if you don't have AirPods or another pair of Bluetooth earbuds handy. The Apple Watch Series 10 be available in a new polished, jet-black aluminum finish and new polished titanium finishes. It's available for pre-order today and will be widely available on September 20.

While there have been a bunch of swirling rumors about the next iteration of the Apple Watch Ultra, the company did not reveal the third generation sportswatch today. Instead, Apple revealed a new finish for the Apple Watch Ultra 2 : satin black. There are also new Hermes finishes, and a new Milanese band to accompany the new satin black finish.

What we expect from the Apple event on September 9

Apple has confirmed the date, time title for its fall product launch. And the big event is happening later today, September 9.

Taking place at the company's Cupertino campus, Apple's "Glowtime" event will almost certainly see the reveal of the iPhone 16 series and include a big focus on AI.

This Apple event could be the biggest in years. In addition to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro (which are expected to hit shelves on September 20), we're expecting to see the reveal of the Apple Watch Series 10 (or Apple Watch X) and possibly the arrival of the AirPods 4 .

But the other big news is Apple Intelligence and some of the features it's expected to bring to the table. That includes a major update to Siri , complete with a new glowing animation that could be the inspiration behind the event name. Here's everything you need to know about today's event.

When is the Apple September event 2024?

The Apple September event 2024 has been announced, and it will take place today, September 9, 2024. As is typical, invitations to press and customers were emailed out two weeks before the official date.

The event at Apple Park in Cupertino gets underway at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 6 pm BST. As with previous Apple events, you'll be able to live stream the event on YouTube , Apple.com and on Apple TV. Apple Vision Pro users will also be able to watch in their headset.

Apple September event: iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro

Today's event's headliner is the iPhone. This year, we're anticipating the launch of iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro , with four total devices in the iPhone 16 family: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro.

Likely starting at $799 (although higher component prices may affect that ), the iPhone 16 is expected to come in 6.1-inch standard and 6.7-inch Plus versions. Reports say it'll feature a redesigned camera block , the Action button borrowed from iPhone 15 Pro , and up to 7 color options . If Apple sticks to its current way of doing things, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would inherit the A17 Pro chip we see in the iPhone 15 Pro models, though at least one rumor says it'll get a 3-nanometer A18 chip .

Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro may get a more powerful version of the A18 Pro chip as well as larger display sizes. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman claims the iPhone 16 Pro models will grow by “ a couple tenths of an inch diagonally ,” making them the biggest iPhones to date. The bezels may shrink on Pro phones , too.

All phones will ship with iOS 18 , though it's to be determined whether/which Apple Intelligence features teased at WWDC 2024 will be available to all iPhone 16 models. (The current iOS 18.1 developer beta has many writing and image editing features along with basic Safari improvements; that 18.1 update will likely follow a month or so after iOS 18's initial release.)

And while both regular and Pro iPhones could get an improved telephoto lens and the same 48MP main resolution, the sensor on the Pro models may be larger to improve photo quality . Alternatively, a second 48MP sensor could be added to the Pro model ultrawide cameras to support 48MP ProRes shots at the iPhone's widest 0.5x magnification level.

A recent leak claims the Pro-model handsets will get several new camera features , including the ability to shoot 4K video at 120 frames per second, the option to pause and resume video recordings in the camera app, the removal of wind noise from videos, new Photographic Styles with enhanced machine learning to preserve skin tones, Vision Pro compatible 3D Spatial Photos and support for the JPEG-XL format.

Additional iPhone 16 rumors include larger battery capacities for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max (all but the iPhone 16 Plus) as well as the addition of a Capture Button on all models to make taking photos/video more convenient.

If Apple holds to its usual schedule of selling phones around 10 days after the event that introduces them, the iPhone 16 models would go on sale September 20. That's the date Bloomberg is reporting, though a German blog claims Apple will move up the release date by a day. We'll side with Bloomberg for now, especially with an Apple Store in Sweden set to open up on September 20 . You wouldn't imagine a store would wait until after the iPhone 16 release to open its doors.

Apple September event: Apple Watch 10

The other product we're fairly confident we'll see today is the Apple Watch Series 10, which may also be referred to as the Apple Watch 10 or Apple Watch X. For the 10th-gen iPhone, Apple used roman numeral 'X' branding, so we're eager to see whether it does the same for Apple Watch.

Information about the next-generation Apple Watch has been limited, so we're not sure what improvements we'll see over the Apple Watch Series 9 just yet. That said, we're convinced by rumors that the Apple Watch 10 will feature the watch's biggest redesign in years . A report says the watch will be thinner and come in larger sizes, though no insight yet whether this will impact the Apple Watch band system.

Otherwise, the Apple Watch 10 will adopt the best core features of the Apple Watch: comprehensive workout tracking, support for hundreds of apps, convenient on-wrist communication, safety tools and more. According to Bloomberg, Apple’s next-generation wearables may monitor and alert for signs of sleep apnea and hypertension . But ongoing legal battles with health-tech company Masimo has put those features in doubt.

In good news, a report from The Elec claims a battery life boost could finally happen for Apple Watch 10 . Apple is apparently looking to include low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology on the device's display, improving the display's power efficiency.

Multiple reports suggest an Apple Watch Ultra 3 is also coming this year , as a follow-up to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 . That said, we don't know yet what upgrades it'll offer. Additionally, if Apple sticks to a two-year cadence for coming out with a new entry-level watch, the Apple Watch SE 3 could be on the agenda as well.

Apple September event: AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3

Accessories are usually part of the fall product event, and Glowtime figures to be no exception. We're expecting to see at least one new Apple audio product in the form of the Apple AirPods 4 , and it's possible they could be joined by a new version of the AirPods Pro (though conventional wisdom has that product coming out next year ).

The AirPods 4 are expected to be Apple's new entry-level wireless earbuds, as Apple drops the AirPods 3 and AirPods 2 from its lineup. This new version should have an improved fit with a USB-C charging case. It's also thought that Apple could offer two versions of its basic AirPods, with the more expensive model featuring active noise cancellation.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports the higher-end model will inherit two features from the AirPods Pro 2 : active noise cancellation and a higher-end case with a speaker built in . As with the Pro model, this will make it easier to locate via the Apple Find My network (and presumably alert you to when it’s charging with the same friendly ‘ding’).

A new report tips the updated Pro models to join the AirPods 4 at Glowtime, but we think a staggered release is more likely.

Apple September event: AirPods Max 2

Speaking of audio products, Apple's AirPods Max turned three-years-old in December 2023. Although we didn't see them at WWDC 2024 held on June 10, there's plenty of speculation that a so-called AirPods Max 2 could arrive later today when the Apple execs take to the stage.

We haven’t heard many specific rumors on updates to Apple's premium over-ear headphones, though it's possible they'll just be refreshed rather than completely overhauled. There are rumors the AirPods Max will come in at least one new color and switch to USB-C charging, as the AirPods Pro 2 did last year.

The AirPods Max are extremely popular, but there are convincing AirPods Max alternatives among the best headphones , such as the Sony WH-1000XM5 and new Sonos Ace .

Apple September event: iPad mini 7

The final piece of hardware that may make an appearance at today's Glowtime is the iPad mini 7 . The iPad mini 6 was announced at the September event in 2021, after all.

We haven't heard many rumors about the next iPad mini, but it's gone the longest without an update among the entire iPad lineup. The iPad Air 2024 and iPad Pro 2024 launched just a few months ago, so the iPad mini may be next.

It's possible that Apple also holds a second fall event to deal with Mac releases. If that happens, the iPad mini 7 could be part of that event instead.

WWDC feels like it only just came and went, but it’s already time to turn our eyes toward the next event on the horizon: the highly anticipated September 2023 Apple Event. This is when we’ll get our first look at the new Apple iPhone 15 Series and Apple Watch Series 9 devices, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 — all from the comfort of our own homes.

Apple September 2023 event: Date, time, and how to watch

Invites went out on August 29 confirming that the Apple September event is Sept. 12 , right in line with our predictions.

As with most modern Apple events, the pre-taped keynote will almost certainly be available to stream live via the Apple Events website and Apple’s YouTube channel .

As for when to watch, Apple’s September event will once again kick off at 10 a.m. PT, 1 p.m. ET, and 6 p.m. BST for those in the U.K.

Apple September 2023 event: What will Apple announce?

Apple typically reserves its September event to reveal a new iPhone lineup alongside new Apple Watch devices. Beyond hardware, Apple is likely to take this opportunity to announce release dates for the following operating systems:

Apple iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max

The main focus of Apple’s September 2023 event will be on the all-new iPhone 15 Series of devices, including the core iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus, Pro, and Pro Max — all of which are set to now feature USB-C ports as standard.

The all-new port might have a few tricks up its sleeve however, as a recent leak seems to showcase a mystery chip that could serve as a verification step for Apple's Made for iPhone (MFi) certification. Reportedly, USB-C cables lacking this certification could be limited in charge times and data speed.

However, it could also point to lightning-fast Thunderbolt/USB4 tech inclusion and have something to do with the rumors that iPhone 15 will feature vastly improved 35W charge speeds . Either way, Apple seems to want to claim sole ownership of the best iPhone 15 charging and data speeds.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to make use of Apple’s A16 Bionic chip, the same found in iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. Both devices are also said to feature an upgraded 48MP main camera, Super Retina XDR OLED displays, and up to 512GB of storage.

The two core options differ mostly in screen size and battery capacity with the iPhone 15 featuring a 60Hz, 6.1-inch panel with a 3,877mAh battery and the iPhone 15 Plus housing a 60Hz, 6.7-inch screen and a 4,912mAh battery.

On the other hand, iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to make use of Apple’s A17 Bionic chip , the company’s first 3nm processor. Not only will this bring more performance to Apple’s flagship phones, but also better efficiency, squeezing the most out of the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max’s expanded 3,650mAh and 4,852mAh battery capacities.

While the iPhone 15 Pro Max model will reportedly feature an upgraded telephoto (now periscope) lens (ditching the digital zoom of old for a variable optical zoom), both Pro models will apparently enjoy a new titanium casing with curved edges, up to 1TB of storage, and 120Hz displays at 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches in size.

Apple Watch Series 9

The fact we’ve heard very little about what to expect from the Apple Watch Series 9 might give you an indication of what to expect in terms of its latest refresh.

A recent roadmap laid out by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicates that Apple has been hard at work on two Apple Watch Series 9 models for release this year — likely the 41mm and 45mm aluminum and stainless steel designs of old. When it comes to color options, the aluminum model will reportedly be available in Midnight, Starlight, Silver, (PRODUCT) RED, and Pink. The stainless steel model will be available in three colors: Gold, Graphite, and Silver.

Much of what was the Apple Watch Series 8 will carry over, though Apple has reportedly refreshed the watch’s internals with a more powerful S9 chip . The new chipset will be based on Apple’s A15 Bionic, bringing better performance and battery life to the table just in time to make the most of the upcoming watchOS 10 release.

Apple Watch Series 9 rumors

Apple Watch Ultra substituting Apple Watch Ultra 2

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 , a follow-up to the awesome Apple Watch Ultra , is also touted to make an appearance, appearing on the same roadmap as the Apple Watch Series 9 and similarly earmarked for a 2023 release.

Information about what to expect from the second generation of Apple’s smartwatch is scarce, but it’s likely to receive the same processor upgrade as the Apple Watch Series 9 — resulting in the same S9 chipset performance and efficiency boost.

The next big hardware change we’re likely to notice when it comes to the Apple Watch Ultra’s design will be when Apple begins outfitting the smartwatch with its own in-house micro-LED displays . But don’t expect to see that change until at least 2025.

However, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 will feature changes you won’t automatically notice by way of 3D-printed titanium components that cut the cost of manufacturing the device and reduce its weight. Will the reduced production costs translate into more affordable pricing for Apple’s premium wearable? That remains to be seen.

Apple September 2023 event: What else could we see?

There’s always room for “One more thing…” at an Apple event, and while Apple Park is known to spring more leaks than a TENA commercial, the potential for a surprise reveal still exists. Here are some of our picks for outside chances heading to Apple’s September 2023 event:

Apple iPad Mini (Gen 7)

A recent leak by tipster ShrimpApplePro indicates that at least one iPad could be set to steal some of the keynote spotlight — likely the iPad Mini 7 .

However, while the tipster feels its appearance is a possibility, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman doesn't share the same enthusiasm. In a January issue of his Power On newsletter, Gurman stated that he believes Apple is unlikely to release any significant iPad upgrades this year.

This would also line up with a tweet from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo , who believes that the next iPad mini refresh will begin mass production in Q1 of 2024.

The last iPad Mini launched in September 2021, running on Apple’s A15 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM. While the leak doesn’t go into any further details about what to expect, we can assume Apple would at the very least have an upgrade to the chipset in mind.

Though, before anybody starts dreaming of an M2 iPad Mini, we’d expect an upgrade to the A16 Bionic processor at most.

Get ready to buy some new cables. Apple is about to announce the iPhone 15 and, with it, a change from Lightning to USB-C. It’s one of the biggest changes to the iPhone in years — and one that’s likely to infuriate as many people in need of new cables as it does excite those who are happy to consolidate around just one.

Alongside the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro, Apple is also expected to introduce new Apple Watches. The Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 are expected to be modest updates focused on internal improvements. We’re also expecting a new line of accessories using a more sustainable material and possibly some other gear — like an updated AirPods Pro case — that shifts over to USB-C as well.

The event starts at 1PM ET / 10AM PT, and you’ll be able to follow along with the latest here. What Announcements Will Apple Make?

Apple usually reserves software announcements for the summer WWDC event and introduces new hardware in the fall, typically in September and October. Here's what we anticipate learning more about at the next presentation.

We expect Apple to bring out new Macs that will run the latest Apple Silicon chip, the M4. An M4 iMac , M4 MacBook Pro , and M4 Mac Mini are all possible.

New iPads – which should also run on some version of Apple Silicon, but perhaps not the M4 – are also likely in October. We're hearing about an 11th-generation base iPad and an iPad Mini 7 .

What Was Announced at the September 2024 Event?

As is the norm, Apple announced new iPhones and Apple Watches on September 9.

The iPhone 16 and 16 Pro series have new processors, smarter cameras, integration with Apple Intelligence, and more physical buttons. The programmable Action Button is coming over from the Apple Watch Ultra to let you quickly perform tasks – like turning on your flashlight – without unlocking the device.

Second, the Apple Watch Series 10 has a bigger screen than its predecessors while being significantly thinner. This wearable is also getting a new titanium black finish and sleep apnea detection as part of its fitness tracking.

Finally, we saw new AirPods. The AirPods 4 are getting active noise cancellation (a first for the line), and the AirPods Pro 3 can function as a hearing aid.

Upcoming Apple Products Guide: What's Coming in 2024 and Beyond

The MacRumors guide to upcoming products provides an overview of everything that we're expecting to see from Apple in both the near and more distant future, and the products that have already come out in 2024.

September 2024

In September, Apple will introduce the iPhone 16 lineup and new Apple Watch models.

iPhone 16 - The iPhone 16 models are getting an Action button, a Capture button for taking video when the iPhone is in landscape orientation, and vertically arranged rear cameras that will likely allow for capturing spatial video when the device is held in landscape orientation. We're also expecting the iPhone 16 to adopt a faster A18 chip built on Apple's 3-nanometer process.
iPhone 16 Pro - The iPhone 16 Pro models will have larger 6.3- and 6.9-inch displays, but will otherwise look much like the iPhone 15 Pro models. They'll also get the new Capture button for taking video, with the mmWave antenna set to be relocated to the other side of the device. An A18 Pro chip is rumored to be in the works, but it will likely only bring minor speed improvements. An upgraded 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera is expected, and the smaller iPhone 16 Pro will get the 5x Telephoto camera that was previously limited to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple Watch X - Apple could have a major Apple Watch update in store for the 10th anniversary of the device. Rumors suggest Apple is planning for a redesigned, thinner Apple Watch X that has a magnetic band attachment system to make it easier to swap out bands and to cut down on the space that bands use up inside the device. New health features are rumored, including blood pressure monitoring for detecting hypertension and sleep apnea detection.
New Apple Watch Ultra - We haven't heard specific rumors about a refreshed Apple Watch Ultra in 2024, but Apple will likely do a minor update to add any new health features that are introduced.
AirPods 4 - New AirPods are expected to come out alongside the iPhone 16 lineup. Apple plans to debut two different models for the first time, one that is lower cost and one that has Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), which has previously been an AirPods Pro-only feature. The ANC version will be the more expensive version, but both are said to have a new design with shorter stems and an upgraded USB-C charging case that has a built-in speaker for Find My.

Late 2024 to Early 2025

Apple will begin updating the Mac lineup with M4 chips starting in late 2024 and early 2025.

iMac - The 24-inch iMac will be updated with the next-generation M4 chip in late 2024. The M4 is expected to feature improved performance to support AI tasks, and rumors suggest that Apple will add an updated Neural Engine with more cores.
MacBook Pro - Apple will refresh the MacBook Pro lineup with the M4-series chips in late 2024. The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro will get the M4 chip, while the 14-inch and 16-inch models will be equipped with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.
Mac mini - The Mac mini will be refreshed at the same time as the MacBook Pro in late 2024. Right now, Apple sells a standard M2 version and an M2 Pro version, and we are expecting that to continue with the M4 lineup. The Mac mini will include M4 and M4 Pro chip options.

2025 Mac Refreshes

M4 Mac updates will continue into 2025, and will be spread out throughout the year.

MacBook Air - Apple plans to refresh the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models sometime in spring 2025, updating them with M4 chips. Design changes are not expected, with the focus to be on the chip refresh. Spring 2025 ranges from March 20 to June 20.
Mac Studio - The Mac Studio was updated with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips in June 2023, and it sounds like Apple will skip the M3 chips in the desktop machine. Current rumors suggest the Mac Studio will be updated in mid-2025, and mid-year updates usually happen around WWDC. The Mac Studio will likely get M4 Max and M4 Ultra chips, keeping in line with the current options.
Mac Pro - Apple plans to update the Mac Pro sometime in late 2025. It will be equipped with the highest-end version of the M4 chip, which is codenamed "Hidra," and it could be either an "Ultra" or "Extreme" M4 chip. The Mac Pro is also expected to support up to 512GB Unified Memory.

Products With Unknown Release Dates

There are several new products in the works that don't yet have specific release dates associated with them at this time.

Apple TV 4K - A new Apple TV 4K with a faster A16 processor was originally said to be coming in the first half of 2024, but more recent rumors have indicated a launch is not imminent.
AirPods Max - Apple is expected to refresh the AirPods Max with a USB-C port and new colors.
iPad mini 7 - The next iPad mini won't have any design updates, but it could have an upgraded A-series chip and new front and rear cameras.
Low-cost iPad - Apple is working on an 11th-generation iPad with a faster chip and support for Wi-Fi 6E.
Home Hub Device - Rumors suggest Apple is working on a smart home display that would serve as a central hub for controlling smart home products, and it could launch as soon as 2024.
New Display - There have been multiple rumors of a Pro Display XDR successor, but there's no word on when an update might come.

Further in the Future

iMac Pro - Apple could introduce a larger 32-inch iMac, replacing the previously discontinued 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro at some point. Apple's plans continue to be unclear, and it's not clear if and when a larger iMac will see a launch.
Foldable iPhone - Apple is allegedly working on a foldable iPhone that might be between 7.5 and 8 inches, with a launch date slated for 2027 at the earliest.
Foldable iPad/Mac - Before we ever get a foldable iPhone, Apple will introduce some kind of foldable notebook and perhaps a foldable iPad. Current rumors suggest that Apple is working on a 17-to-20-inch MacBook that has a foldable display, but it won't come out for several years yet.
Vision Pro 2 - Apple is working on a new Vision Pro, or multiple new models. Rumors are a little mixed right now, but Apple seems to want a successor for the current model and also a lower-cost version that would be closer in price to the iPhone.

What's Already Been Announced in 2024

This is everything that Apple has released in 2024 to date.

February 2024 Vision Pro Debut

In February 2024, Apple released the Vision Pro headset in the United States, marking the company's entrance into its first new product category since 2015 when the Apple Watch came out. The Vision Pro is priced starting at $3,500, and it is equipped with cutting-edge technology like 4K micro-OLED displays, the option to swap between augmented and virtual reality, more than a dozen cameras for gesture and eye-based control, the ability to use it as a display for a Mac, a personal theater-like experience when watching movies, and tons more.

Apple also launched visionOS alongside the Vision Pro. visionOS is the operating system that runs on the headset.

Early March MacBook Air Launch

On March 4, Apple announced the new 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch MacBook Air models . There are few physical changes compared to the prior-generation MacBook Air models from 2022 and 2023, but both machines adopt the 3-nanometer M3 chip. The M3 is approximately 20 percent faster than the prior-generation M2 chip, and it has improved graphics capabilities such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Other new additions to the MacBook Air include Wi-Fi 6E, a fingerprint-resistant coating for the Midnight color, and microphone improvements, with details available in our MacBook Air roundup .

May iPad Pro and iPad Air Event

A virtual Apple event on May 7 saw the introduction of redesigned ultra-thin iPad Pro models in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, both featuring new "Ultra Retina XDR" OLED display panels that offer enhanced contrast for improved HDR, better colors, and greater power efficiency. The iPad Pro models also include the all-new M4 chip, double the starting storage at 256GB, and a relocated landscape front camera and Face ID module.

Alongside the iPad Pro, Apple also introduced an updated Magic Keyboard with an aluminum shell, function keys and a larger haptic trackpad, plus a new Apple Pencil Pro with squeeze and barrel roll gestures, haptic feedback and Find My support.

The iPad Air also saw a significant update at the event, with the lineup expanding to two sizes for the first time with 11-inch and 13-inch models now available. Both models feature Apple's M2 chip and a relocated landscape FaceTime camera.

Finally, Apple discontinued the ninth-generation iPad and reduced the price of the 10th-generation iPad by $100, with Apple's cheapest iPad now starting at $349.

June 2024 - WWDC

Apple held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference keynote on Monday, June 10, introducing new versions of the software that runs on Apple devices. WWDC focused heavily on "Apple Intelligence," which is what Apple is calling its set of AI features. AI updates are coming to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, plus there are new features for each operating system.

Apple Intelligence includes tools for helping you generate, edit, and proofread writing, major Siri updates to make Siri more useful, and image generation features for creating custom images and custom emoji, or Genmoji.

iOS 18 - iOS 18 has all of the Apple Intelligence features, along with a revamped Home Screen that lets you move app icons anywhere, recolor icons, and remove the names from your icons. Control Center has been redesigned and is customizable, plus third-party developers can create Control Center controls. There are emoji Tapbacks in Messages, an option to send messages via satellite, a feature for locking apps, and much more.
iPadOS 18 - iPadOS 18 has the same AI features as iOS 18 along with the Control Center and Home Screen updates, plus all of the app features. The iPad now has a Calculator app and in Notes, support for writing out math equations and having them solved right in line. There's also a Smart Script feature that improves your handwriting with Apple Pencil, and Safari can summarize webpages and highlight key info, a feature that's also available cross-platform.
macOS Sequoia - You can mirror your iPhone to your Mac with macOS Sequoia, fully controlling apps, interacting with notifications, and more. And you can do it while your iPhone is locked. There's a new Passwords app that's also on PCs and in iOS 18/iPadOS 18, plus updates to window tiling.
tvOS 18 - tvOS 18 adds new animated screensavers and makes it easier to switch screensavers, and in the Apple TV app, when you watch Apple TV+ shows, you can see InSights, which give you info on the actors in a TV or movie.
watchOS 11 - watchOS 11 includes a Vitals app that aggregates your health data and gives you a wellness score each day, so you can get alerted to any changes you're experiencing. There are new Training Load features for tracking the intensity of workouts and the impact on the body over time, and Smart Stack widgets have been improved with new widgets and support for Live Activities. You can also pause Activity Ring tracking without losing a streak.
visionOS 2 - Apple improved the look of Personas in visionOS 2, and there are new gestures for accessing the Control Center and Home View. Home View apps can be customized, and there's an option to create 3D photos from your 2D images.

All of the software updates are available to developers in a beta capacity right now, with Apple planning for a public release in the fall after several months of beta testing. Not all features are slated to launch right in September, and some of the Apple Intelligence additions won't be available until later iOS 18 updates in 2025.

The next Apple event on the calendar is the iPhone 16 launch, widely expected to take place in early September. So far this year we've had Apple's May Let Loose event, where the company unveiled its new iPad Pro M4 , iPad Air 6 , and Apple Pencil Pro , and the WWDC 2024 unveiling of iOS 18 , iPadOS 18 , macOS Sequoia , and watchOS 11 .

While we don't yet have a fixed date for the iPhone 16 event. It should fall in the early stages of September and is usually held on a Tuesday. With that in mind, September 3 or September 10 seem like the most likely candidates for Apple's next event. Here's everything we know so far.

Apple's next iPhone 16 event should take place in September 2024. It will likely be held on a Tuesday early in the month, either September 3 or September 10, in keeping with previous years.

The iPhone 13 has arrived, with an iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max – all equipped with a slightly tweaked design and a good swathe of boosted features. That's not all though, with the new Apple Watch Series 7 also making its debut alongside a new iPad and a big refresh for the iPad mini line. It wasn’t an Apple event to knock your socks off but there’s still plenty to get your teeth into.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini

The new iPhone 13 models were a cert to be announced and Apple obliged. The new “13” range directly follows on from the iPhone 12, with even the Mini sticking around.

At first glance the iPhone 13 series does not appear to be a dramatic change. The notch might be fractionally smaller but you’re still looking at a dual-camera phone with those familiar chiselled jaw lines.

However, the most interesting changes are in the camera. The main sensor keeps the same resolution, 12MP, but the size of the tiny wee photosites grows from 1.4 micron to 1.7 micron. Add that to an ultra wide-aperture f/1.6 lens and you get the most light-sensitive camera of any iPhone to date. There’s more.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini also get the sensor shift stabilisation seen in the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple is playing night photography hard ball, and it will consolidate the iPhone’s position as the best phone series for video.

These phones’ wide camera still have a 12MP sensor and f/2.4 lens. The iPhone 13 has a chance of winning a best-in-class title for its primary camera, but the ultra-wide probably doesn’t.

Other hardware changes are standard annual updates. The iPhone 13 jumps from an A14 Bionic CPU to an A15 Bionic. Apple only compared it to non-specific “competitors”, in other words Android phones, saying this the CPU is 50 per cent faster, the GPU up to 30 per cent faster.

But if this were to be a mind-blowing improvement over the iPhone 12, Apple would probably give us the generational improvement figures rather than throwing shade. However, the A15 Bionic does have some efficiency improvements, thanks to a jump to a 5nm manufacturing process.

It says the iPhone 13 mini should last 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 mini, a boost it sorely needs. And the iPhone 13 is rated for 2.5 hours longer battery life off a charge, although we don’t know specifically what these hours involve. Let’s hope it’s not streaming Apple Music with the screen off. Apple says the batteries are bigger in this generation too but, again, there are no specifics as yet.

There are screen updates too. Sort of. The iPhone 13 and 13 mini’s OLED displays are still rated at 1200-nit peak brightness, but the soft limit for general use has been increased from ~625 nits to 800 nits. The screen will seem brighter, even if the panels have the same true peak brightness as last year.

The Top New Features Coming to Apple’s iOS 18 and iPadOS 18

The iPhone 13 starts at £779, whereas the iPhone 13 mini starts at £679 in the UK with pre-orders from Friday, September 17. Meanwhile, iOS 15 will be available as a free update from Monday, September 20.

The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max

As ever, Apple has been slightly behind the curve on certain features but one spec we've been waiting for has finally come to the iPhone – ‘ProMotion’ 120Hz displays. The regular iPhone 13 is still chasing that curve, sticking with a similar display to its predecessor. However, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are now equipped with an LTPO panel – allowing for that 120Hz variable refresh rate, upping your scrolling and gaming game . The rest of the story of the new iPhone 13 Pro models is all about the camera. But, first, here are the key specs:

The Pro models have a completely new trio of cameras, all supported by new software features. The telephoto brings 3x optical zoom along with a 92 per cent improvement to low light performance compared to the iPhone 12 Pro. And the ultrawide is now capable of macro photography. All cameras support Night Mode too with SmartHDR 4 offering improved colour, contrast and lighting.

Apple’s most interesting new camera feature is Photographic Styles, letting users select a theme ahead of taking a photo – making it clear to the iPhone 13 Pro what look you’re going for and what information it needs to prioritise. Some of the styles include Rich Contrast, Vibrant and Vibrant Warm. Both Photographic Styles and the new Cinematic Mode are coming to the regular iPhone 13 as well. Cinematic Mode allows fast and clean shifting of focus while recording video, an impressive feat if Apple has pulled it off successfully. On video, along with the new camera hardware, there’s support for video editor-friendly ProRes video – bringing 4K 30fps ProRes to the camera app.

The iPhone 13 Pro starts at £949 while the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a base price of £1,049. There’s now a 1TB storage option available as well as a shiny new Sierra Blue colour. You can pre-order these iPhone 13 Pro models from Friday, with the release date set for September 24.

The new “Pro” iPhones neatly follow on from the previous models, with a focus on enticing camera enthusiasts up to the higher-priced range. However, high refresh rates finally coming to the iPhone and even better battery life will surely acquire some new Pro converts too.

You can pre-order all iPhone 13 models from this Friday (September 17), with the release date coming on October 1.

A new Apple Watch Series 7

Many expected Apple to give its smartwatch a full redesign this year, but the Apple Watch Series 7 looks quite familiar. Apple hasn’t stayed still, though, something smartwatches always tell you off for.

The screen is 20 per cent larger and the borders are 40 per cent smaller, measuring 1.7mm. Such a tight layout makes the display appear to bend around the 3D glass of the top display layer, in Apple’s promo videos at least.

Apple says it has done this while “barely changing dimensions” but, well, they have changed. The Apple Watch Series 7 now comes in 45mm and 41mm sizes, up from the 40mm and 44m models of the Series 6.

The Watch Series 7 has “softer, more rounded corners”, and is a little tougher than last time. IP6x dust resistance joins the series’s staple 50M water resistance. Apple says the crack resistant glass is its toughest yet too. It’s thicker and the rounded shape is more resilient.

This is a tweaked design, not a full redesign, and there are no changes to battery life either, which many hoped for. The 18-hour battery life remains, although screen brightness will apparently be 70 per cent higher indoors suggesting there are some efficiency improvements under the shell.

Charging speed has improved as well. Apple says you can get from a flat battery to 80 per cent charge in 45 minutes. So, yeh, while a top-up before bed is advised if you track a long run and want to monitor your sleep, 10-20 minutes will do the trick.

The Apple Watch Series 7’s aluminium models come in five colours this time: blue, green, Product Red, Midnight and Starlight.

Most other new features are part of watchOS 8 rather than being specific to the Series 7, like improved bike ride tracking and a new Pilates mode, but there are some watch faces designed to make the most of the new look. There was no word of a new processor for the smartwatch.

Contrary to some predictions, the Apple Watch Series 7 does not bump the Watch Series 3 off the line-up. It’s the Apple Watch Series 6 that is heading to a new life on CeX shelves, as the Watch Series 3 and Watch SE remain “current”.

The Apple Watch Series 7 will be available “later this autumn”, and as usual stainless steel and higher-end variants are there for the deep-pocketed. UK prices are to be confirmed, but the series starts at $399 in the US.

It may not have been as big of a surprise as Apple dropping the new M1X MacBook Pro models out of the blue but a new iPad wasn’t necessarily expected at the “California Streaming” event. Well, it arrived along with a massive refresh to the iPad mini too.

The new regular iPad still comes with a 10.2-in Retina display but adds an Apple A13 Bionic chip, upgraded 12MP ultra-wide selfie camera and TrueTone. The addition of the A13 chip brings about 20 per cent faster performance, which Apple’s crafty statisticians reckon is three times faster than the best-selling Chromebook and six times faster than the best-selling Android tablet .

It isn’t a huge boost but the base iPad has remained popular for a long time and this helps it keep pace with rivals, even if it is topped by the rest of Apple’s tablet line. A slightly reduced price will only help too, with the new iPad starting at a price of £319. It’s available to pre-order from today and goes on sale next week.

Speaking of the rest of the iPad line, the mini has been given a significant shakeup in the form of some iPad Air-esque upgrades. The new iPad mini has a new 8.3in display – ditching the home button so it can stay the same footprint despite the larger panel. It’s a Liquid Retina display with TrueTone, 500 nits of brightness and low reflectivity.

The new tablet comes with the new A15 Bionic, giving it a 40 per cent CPU performance boost and 80 per cent GPU boost. Like the iPad Air and iPad Pro, you get USB-C with the iPad mini as well as 5G – neither of which are available with the new iPad, which sticks with Lightning and 4G.

The iPad mini's cameras have gotten a shot in the arm front and back too. The rear camera is now 12MP with TrueTone flash and is capable of 4K video. While the selfie camera is a 12MP ultrawide, with Center Stage. The speakers have also been supercharged with stereo audio in landscape mode.

There’s a range of new slim Smart Folio covers for Apple’s smallest tablet as well as compatibility with the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil – which also magnetically attaches to the device’s side.

The new iPad mini looks mightily impressive; it's now a shrunken down version of the excellent iPad Air. However, the price could be the off-putting factor for many. The new tablet starts at £479, with pre-orders starting today and a release date next week.

Calendar becomes even more helpful by showing both events and tasks from Reminders . Users can create, edit, and complete reminders right from Calendar, and the updated month view provides an overview of events and tasks at a glance.
In Journal , an all-new insights view helps users keep track of their journaling goals, the ability to search and sort entries makes it easy to enjoy past memories, and a Journal widget lets users quickly start an entry from the Home Screen or Lock Screen. Time spent journaling can be saved as mindful minutes in the Health app, and users can log their state of mind right in Journal.
The Home app introduces guest access, providing users with easy ways to grant guests control of locks, garage doors, and security systems; set schedules for when guests can access the home; and more. With convenient updates to the Energy category, the Home app also makes it easier for eligible users to access, understand, and make more informed decisions about their home electricity use.
Emergency SOS Live Video allows users to share context through streaming video and recorded media. In the middle of an emergency call, participating emergency dispatchers can send a request for a user to share live video or media from the user’s camera roll over a secure connection, making it easier and faster to get help.
Updates coming to AirPods will transform the way users take calls, respond to Siri, and immerse themselves in their favorite games with AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, and AirPods Pro 2. Voice Isolation helps the caller’s voice be heard in loud or windy environments, while Siri Interactions allow users to nod or shake their head to respond to Siri announcements. AirPods updates also provide the best wireless audio latency Apple has ever delivered for mobile gaming, and add Personalized Spatial Audio for all AirPods models for even more immersive gameplay.
Later this fall, AirPods Pro 2 add a clinical-grade, over-the-counter Hearing Aid capability for users with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. Based on results from an intuitive, clinically validated Hearing Test users can take from the comfort of their own home using AirPods Pro 2 and a compatible iPhone or iPad, this new feature seamlessly transforms AirPods Pro into a personalized hearing aid set to meet the specific needs of the user, making access to hearing assistance easier than ever at an approachable price point. 9
In the Health app , Medical ID has been redesigned to make it even easier for first responders to find the most important information in an emergency. The Health app helps users better understand their data during pregnancy by making adjustments and recommendations to reflect changes in their physical and mental health.
The Fitness app on iPhone now offers users the ability to customize the Summary tab, and Apple Fitness+ has been redesigned with personalized workout and meditation recommendations in For You, more powerful search, and enhanced awards for extra motivation.
New accessibility features include Eye Tracking, a built-in option for navigating iPhone with just eyes; Music Haptics, a new way for users who are deaf or hard of hearing to experience music using the Taptic Engine in iPhone; Vocal Shortcuts that enable users to perform tasks by making a custom sound; and Vehicle Motion Cues, which helps reduce motion sickness for passengers using iPhone in a moving vehicle. Accessibility features are now available for CarPlay, including Voice Control, Sound Recognition, Color Filters, and Bold Text.

iOS 18 is now available, bringing iPhone users around the world new ways to personalize their iPhone with deeper customization to the Home Screen and Control Center; the biggest-ever redesign to Photos, making it even easier to find and relive special moments; and major enhancements to Messages and Mail. Starting next month, iOS 18 will introduce Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system that combines the power of generative models with personal context to deliver intelligence that is incredibly useful and relevant while protecting users’ privacy and security. 1

In iOS 18, users can customize their Home Screen in exciting new ways by placing app icons and widgets to frame the wallpaper or create the ideal layout on each page. Users can also choose how the app icons and widgets are presented — light, dark, or with a colored tint — or make app icons appear larger for a new streamlined look. Control Center is redesigned to be even more flexible. Powerful groups of controls — including favorites, media playback, Home controls and connectivity, and the new controls gallery featuring options from third-party apps — can be organized so that they’re always just a swipe away. Users can also access their favorite controls from the Action button, and for the first time, users can change the controls on the Lock Screen or remove them entirely.

The biggest-ever update to Photos makes it easier to find and relive special moments. The beautiful, simplified layout puts the library into a unified yet familiar view. New collections like Recent Days, People & Pets, and Trips automatically keep the library organized with on-device intelligence, so users can spend less time searching and more time enjoying their memories. Users can personalize their experience with a customizable layout that reflects what is most important to them and pin favorite collections to keep them easily accessible.

Messages offers major updates to the ways users express themselves and stay connected. Formatting options like bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough let users better convey tone; all-new text effects bring words, phrases, and sentences to life; emoji and sticker Tapbacks give users endless ways to react in a conversation; and users can compose an iMessage to send later. For times when cellular and Wi-Fi connections aren’t available, Messages via satellite connects users to a satellite in space right from the Messages app to send and receive texts, emoji, and Tapbacks over iMessage and SMS. 2 When messaging contacts who do not have an Apple device, the Messages app now supports RCS for richer media and more reliable group messaging compared to SMS and MMS.

The Phone app helps users stay organized with the ability to record and transcribe live calls, making it easier to recall important details later. 3 Call participants are notified before a recording begins, and transcripts are conveniently saved to the Notes app, allowing users to quickly search and review what was discussed.

Available later this year, categorization in Mail organizes messages to help users stay on top of their inbox. The Primary category lets users focus on the messages that matter most or contain time-sensitive information. Transactions, Updates, and Promotions are grouped by sender in a new digest view that pulls together all relevant emails from a business, allowing users to quickly scan for what’s important in the moment.

Safari is the world’s fastest browser, and with iOS 18, it offers even more capabilities for browsing the web. 4 Highlights intelligently surface key information — like a location’s address, a summary, or more information about a movie, TV show, or song — after a webpage is loaded. The redesigned Reader brings more ways to enjoy articles with a streamlined view, a summary, and a table of contents for longer articles. With Distraction Control, users can hide items on a webpage that they may find disruptive to their browsing, such as sign-in banners or content overlays within a website.

Passwords is a new app built on the foundation of Keychain that makes it even easier for users to access their passwords and see all their credentials — like passwords, passcodes, and verification codes — all in one place. Passwords is backed by incredibly secure end-to-end encryption; seamlessly syncs across devices; and alerts users when a password could be easily guessed, has been used multiple times, or has appeared in a known data leak.

iOS 18 gives users tools to manage who can see their apps, how their contacts are shared, and how their iPhone connects to accessories. Locked and hidden apps offer users peace of mind that information they want to keep private, such as app notifications and content, will not inadvertently be seen by others. Users can now lock an app, and for additional privacy, they can also hide an app, moving it to a locked, hidden apps folder. When an app is locked or hidden, content like messages or emails inside the app are hidden from search, notifications, and other places across the system. In addition, iOS 18 lets users share only specific contacts with an app, and developers can offer users a more seamless and private experience when connecting third-party accessories with iPhone.

Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated into iOS 18, harnessing the power of Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks — all while protecting users’ privacy and security. The first set of Apple Intelligence features will be available next month, delivering experiences that are delightful, intuitive, easy to use, and specially designed to help users do the things that matter most to them.

With Writing Tools, users can refine their words by rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text nearly everywhere they write, including Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps. In Photos, the Memories feature now enables users to create the movies they want to see by simply typing a description. In addition, natural language can be used to search for specific photos, and search in videos gets more powerful with the ability to find specific moments in clips. The new Clean Up tool can identify and remove distracting objects in the background of a photo — without accidentally altering the subject. And in the Notes and Phone apps, users can record, transcribe, and summarize audio. When a recording is initiated while on a call in the Phone app, participants are automatically notified, and once the call ends, Apple Intelligence generates a summary to help recall key points.

Siri becomes more natural, flexible, and deeply integrated into the system experience. It has a brand-new design with an elegant glowing light that wraps around the edge of the screen when active on iPhone. Users can type to Siri at any time on iPhone, and can switch fluidly between text and voice as they use Siri to accelerate everyday tasks. With richer language-understanding capabilities, Siri can follow along when users stumble over their words and can maintain context from one request to the next. In addition, with Siri’s extensive product knowledge, it can now answer thousands of questions about the features and settings of Apple devices.

With many Apple Intelligence models running entirely on device, as well as the introduction of Private Cloud Compute — which extends the privacy and security of Apple devices into the cloud to unlock even more intelligence — Apple Intelligence represents an extraordinary step forward for privacy in artificial intelligence.

Availability

Apple Intelligence will be available as a free software update. The first set of Apple Intelligence features will be available in beta next month as part of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, with more features rolling out in the months to come. It will be available on iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac with M1 and later, with device and Siri language set to U.S. English. Additional languages and platforms are coming over the course of the next year. Later this year, Apple Intelligence will add support for localized English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. In the coming year, Apple Intelligence will expand to more languages, like Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish.
Apple’s satellite features are included for free for two years starting at the time of activation of a new iPhone 14 or later. For Emergency SOS via satellite availability, visit support.apple.com/en-us/HT213426 . Messages via satellite will be available in the U.S. and Canada in iOS 18. SMS availability will depend on carrier. Carrier fees may apply. Users should check with their carrier for details. Satellite network provided by Globalstar Inc. and its affiliates or third-party network providers.
Call recording and transcription will be available later this year. Transcription will be available in English (U.S., Australia), Spanish (U.S., Mexico), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland), Cantonese (Hong Kong), and Korean (South Korea).

Coming this fall, the Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features will be available in more than 100 countries and regions — including the U.S., Germany, and Japan — where marketing authorization has been received. The Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features are intended for people 18 years old or older, and the Hearing Aid feature is intended for people with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. The Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features will be supported on AirPods Pro 2 with the latest firmware paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 and later.
