Apple Event 2023: Today Is the Expected iPhone 15 Reveal and More
Today, we could see the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and, maybe, an iPhone 15 Ultra announced.

Apple sent out invites for a Sept. 12 event. The tagline is "Wonderlust."
Today is Apple's Wonderlust event , and we expect to see the rumored iPhone 15 and new Apple Watches announced. You can watch Apple's Wonderlust event stream starting at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT. This will be the first event since Apple unveiled the Vision Pro at WWDC earlier this summer. The annual fall iPhone event has become a cultural touch point heralding the end of summer, right up there with pumpkin spice.
For months, a seemingly endless flow of iPhone 15 rumors have circulated online. Some hint at a rather straightforward round of year-over-year upgrades, while others point to the possibility of a rebranded larger Pro model called the iPhone 15 Ultra . As the anticipation builds, here's everything you can expect from today's Apple's fall event.
Wanderlust or wonderlust?
The event's invite is characteristically enigmatic, showing an Apple logo made up of tiny, dustlike particles. The logo has grooves carved out of it, a bit like the forms you see on windswept sand dunes.
The tagline, "Wonderlust," is of course a play on the word " wanderlust," which means a strong longing for or impulse toward wandering . Does wonderlust mean a strong longing for or impulse toward wondering? Like everyone else, we're trying to read something into the invite and wondering what it has to do with Apple's upcoming announcements. Could the grooved cutouts in the logo refer to a less boxy iPhone design? Could the particles refer to improved cameras capable of capturing more detail? Could the colors -- metallic shades of gray, blue and even gold -- be a reference to the colors of the new iPhone or Apple Watch?
Or is this all just Apple acknowledging the fleeting nature of existence? No idea. But I expect the iPhone 15 Pro will be the headliner.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus
As in the iPhone 14 series, there will likely be four models in the new iPhone lineup: the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has a solid record when covering Apple leaks, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will basically be a repackaged iPhone 14 Pro without the telephoto camera or stainless steel body.
The new phones would inherit a 48-megapixel main camera and the A16 chip from the 14 Pros. On the outside, the two phones will trade their display notches for the Dynamic Island cutout that also debuted on the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.
Apple brought the Plus model back for last year's iPhone 14 series. It replaced the spot previously reserved for the iPhone Mini model.
Despite the addition of the Dynamic Island, don't expect any other changes to the screen. Display analyst Ross Young said in a September 2022 post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he isn't expecting base iPhone 15 models to get a high refresh rate like Apple's Pro iPhones.
And according to a May report by ChargerLab, a battery and charging specialist website with a steady track record for rumors, all four iPhone 15 models will support 15-watt wireless charging using the Qi2 open standard announced earlier this year . If this turns out to be true, it could mean the iPhone 15 would open up a whole new world of wireless charging devices that don't necessarily need to be licensed Apple MagSafe accessories.

But the biggest change expected for all four iPhones will be the shift away from the Lightning connector. Likely driven by pressure from the European Union, which passed legislation adopting USB-C as a common charging standard , the iPhone 15 series will have a USB-C port instead of a Lighting port. The last time Apple switched the iPhone's power port was in 2012, when it debuted the Lighting port on the iPhone 5, which spelled the end of the wide 30-pin iPod connector that was previously used.
It's a bit hazy how exactly Apple will handle this, like whether USB-C will be on all new iPhones globally or just in the EU. But it's highly likely that all new iPhone models will be sold with a USB-C port for the foreseeable future.
The lenses on the iPhone 14 Pro Max stick out quite a bit. Apple might put its next telephoto lens inside the body of the iPhone 15 Pro Max via a periscope assembly.
The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
Of everything Apple's expected to announce, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max could have the biggest changes. According to Bloomberg's Gurman, stainless steel is gone, and instead the Pro model's frame will be made from titanium. The shift in materials could help reduce the overall weight of each phone, which is hefty even without a case.
The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will likely get a new chip called A17 that features a supertiny, 3-nanometer processor, Apple's smallest silicon to date. Around the front, the two phones will likely have thinner display bezels.
A close-up of the Sony Xperia 1 V's camera bump. The bottom lens is actually a mirror that allows the periscope lens that's mounted horizontally in the body to take photos.
The Pro models' biggest change will be the USB-C port, which in a break from the regular 15 and 15 Plus could support faster data speeds for things like transferring files and ProRes video files .
The iPhone 15 Pro Max may get a new 6x optical telephoto camera. Ming-Chi Kuo, a noted Apple analyst with TF International Securities, predicts the iPhone 15 Pro Max will have a horizontal mounted periscope lens and camera unit inside the phone's body, similar to ones in the Pixel 7 Pro, Galaxy S23 Ultra and Sony Xperia 1 V.
Doubling the native optical zoom from 3x to 6x should enable you to capture zoomed-in photos with better detail, resolution and dynamic range compared with the 6x digital zoom on a current iPhone 14 Pro.
The HTC U12 had no physical button. Instead there were nubs where buttons would normally go that were touch sensitive. Apple is rumored to be doing the same on its iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
Kuo's report also hints at both Pro models having solid-state volume and power buttons, which would further differentiate them from the regular 15 and 15 Plus. The buttons wouldn't be mechanical and would be more akin to the touch sensitive area that debuted on the iPhone 7 and acts like a "home button" thanks to some clever haptic feedback. Back in 2018, the HTC U12 had solid-state buttons instead of mechanical ones; however, the experience using them wasn't great.
There are a couple of rumors that have been circulating despite being a bit dated or unlikely. The first is that the iPhone 15 Pro Max may be rebranded as the iPhone 15 Ultra. Bloomberg's Gurman mentioned the possibility nearly a year ago, but that should be taken with a grain of salt since more recently Gurman hasn't brought it up.
Another up-in-the-air rumor comes by the way of MacRumors, which found code in a beta version of iOS 17 that describes functionality for an action button like the one on the Apple Watch Ultra. Such a hardware addition would be a first for Apple, and the iPhone's action button would be for more-phone-oriented tasks like shortcuts or triggering the camera shutter. We'll have to wait until the 12th to find out.
Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2
Apple Watch Ultra (left) vs. 41mm Apple Watch Series 8.
In a less ambitious update, it seems the next regular Apple Watch will likely be a relatively modest year-over-year iteration of the Apple Watch Series 8. The Series 9 could come in a new color. As reported by MacRumors, based on a post by X/Twitter user ShrimpApplePro, the Apple Watch Series 9 might come in a new pink color.
The Series 9 will likely be powered by a new S9 chip, which Bloomberg's Gurman, posting to his Power On Discord channel back in May, described as bringing improvements to performance and efficiency. That's another way of saying the battery life might be better.
The Apple Watch Ultra could see a second-generation version. The rugged watch debuted last year, and a new version could bring a faster chip and come in a black titanium finish, according to an X/Twitter post by ShrimpApplePro. A black version of the Ultra could look amazing!
All right, let's talk about everything else.
Potpourri and wrap-up
Will the Vision Pro make an appearance at Apple's Sept. 12 event?
The AirPods case could see a new version with a USB-C connector . iOS 17 and WatchOS 10 will likely get an official release date. And I can't imagine that Apple would pass up a chance to update everyone on its Vision Pro headset that was announced in June at WWDC.
Obviously, until Tim Cook and crew walk onto that stage in the Steve Jobs Theater and make their announcements, we won't know anything for certain.

Apple iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
The main focus of Apple’s September 2023 event will be on the all-new iPhone 15 Series of devices, including the core iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus, Pro, and Pro Max — all of which are set to now feature USB-C ports as standard.
The all-new port might have a few tricks up its sleeve however, as a recent leak seems to showcase a mystery chip that could serve as a verification step for Apple's Made for iPhone (MFi) certification. Reportedly, USB-C cables lacking this certification could be limited in charge times and data speed.
However, it could also point to lightning-fast Thunderbolt/USB4 tech inclusion and have something to do with the rumors that iPhone 15 will feature vastly improved 35W charge speeds . Either way, Apple seems to want to claim sole ownership of the best iPhone 15 charging and data speeds.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to make use of Apple’s A16 Bionic chip, the same found in iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. Both devices are also said to feature an upgraded 48MP main camera, Super Retina XDR OLED displays, and up to 512GB of storage.
The two core options differ mostly in screen size and battery capacity with the iPhone 15 featuring a 60Hz, 6.1-inch panel with a 3,877mAh battery and the iPhone 15 Plus housing a 60Hz, 6.7-inch screen and a 4,912mAh battery.
On the other hand, iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to make use of Apple’s A17 Bionic chip , the company’s first 3nm processor. Not only will this bring more performance to Apple’s flagship phones, but also better efficiency, squeezing the most out of the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max’s expanded 3,650mAh and 4,852mAh battery capacities.
While the iPhone 15 Pro Max model will reportedly feature an upgraded telephoto (now periscope) lens (ditching the digital zoom of old for a variable optical zoom), both Pro models will apparently enjoy a new titanium casing with curved edges, up to 1TB of storage, and 120Hz displays at 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches in size.

Apple Watch Series 9
The fact we’ve heard very little about what to expect from the Apple Watch Series 9 might give you an indication of what to expect in terms of its latest refresh.
A recent roadmap laid out by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicates that Apple has been hard at work on two Apple Watch Series 9 models for release this year — likely the 41mm and 45mm aluminum and stainless steel designs of old. When it comes to color options, the aluminum model will reportedly be available in Midnight, Starlight, Silver, (PRODUCT) RED, and Pink. The stainless steel model will be available in three colors: Gold, Graphite, and Silver.
Much of what was the Apple Watch Series 8 will carry over, though Apple has reportedly refreshed the watch’s internals with a more powerful S9 chip . The new chipset will be based on Apple’s A15 Bionic, bringing better performance and battery life to the table just in time to make the most of the upcoming watchOS 10 release.
- Apple Watch Series 9 rumors
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 , a follow-up to the awesome Apple Watch Ultra , is also touted to make an appearance, appearing on the same roadmap as the Apple Watch Series 9 and similarly earmarked for a 2023 release.
Information about what to expect from the second generation of Apple’s smartwatch is scarce, but it’s likely to receive the same processor upgrade as the Apple Watch Series 9 — resulting in the same S9 chipset performance and efficiency boost.
The next big hardware change we’re likely to notice when it comes to the Apple Watch Ultra’s design will be when Apple begins outfitting the smartwatch with its own in-house micro-LED displays . But don’t expect to see that change until at least 2025.
However, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 will feature changes you won’t automatically notice by way of 3D-printed titanium components that cut the cost of manufacturing the device and reduce its weight. Will the reduced production costs translate into more affordable pricing for Apple’s premium wearable? That remains to be seen.

Apple September 2023 event: What else could we see?
There’s always room for “One more thing…” at an Apple event, and while Apple Park is known to spring more leaks than a TENA commercial, the potential for a surprise reveal still exists. Here are some of our picks for outside chances heading to Apple’s September 2023 event:
Apple iPad Mini (Gen 7)
A recent leak by tipster ShrimpApplePro indicates that at least one iPad could be set to steal some of the keynote spotlight — likely the iPad Mini 7 .
However, while the tipster feels its appearance is a possibility, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman doesn't share the same enthusiasm. In a January issue of his Power On newsletter, Gurman stated that he believes Apple is unlikely to release any significant iPad upgrades this year.
This would also line up with a tweet from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo , who believes that the next iPad mini refresh will begin mass production in Q1 of 2024.
The last iPad Mini launched in September 2021, running on Apple’s A15 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM. While the leak doesn’t go into any further details about what to expect, we can assume Apple would at the very least have an upgrade to the chipset in mind.
Though, before anybody starts dreaming of an M2 iPad Mini, we’d expect an upgrade to the A16 Bionic processor at most.

Apple Event 2023 — all the product announcements just revealed in new report
Expect to see the iPhone 15 series, new Apple Watches and USB-C charging AirPods among other big reveals
Apple’s September event — “Wonderlust” — is almost here. On September 12, Apple is set to officially unveil the iPhone 15 , iPhone 15 Pro and more of its most highly anticipated new products. Also tipped to make an appearance are the Apple Watch Series 9 , the Apple Watch Ultra 2 , changes coming with iOS 17 , and the latest AirPods.
Rumors have been swirling for a while now about what to expect, but a Friday report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman gives us our most comprehensive glimpse to date into Apple's plans. While we aren't likely to see a flashy new product like the Vision Pro headset revealed at Apple's June event, expect a packed showcase for Apple's flagship devices like the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods, Gurman said, citing unnamed sources familiar with the company's plans.
Check out our guide on how to watch Apple's Wonderlust event , including where you can find a live stream and what to expect. And read on for everything you can expect at Apple's September showcase based on Bloomberg's report.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro
First up is Apple's next-gen iPhone 15 series. Apple is expected to debut four models: the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and the 15 Pro Max , which, contrary to rumors, will keep the "Max" naming system instead of being called the iPhone 15 Ultra as some have speculated, Gurman said.
The standard iPhone 15 and larger 15 Plus will keep the same aluminum sides and glass back as we saw on the base models of the iPhone 14 series. Their screens will remain the same dimensions as well, using a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display, respectively, but will appear slightly larger as Apple has shaved down the bezels to just 1.5mm . To create the slimmer bezels, Apple's employed a new manufacturing process called LIPO, or low-injection pressure overmolding.
The non-Pro models will also get the Dynamic Island first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max . It's one of the iPhone's latest and most novel features, replacing the traditional iPhone notch with an interactive way for users to access their notifications and mini-players in an instant. The camera upgrades we saw with last year's high-end models are also coming to the standard iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, which will move from a 12-megapixel main camera sensor to a 48-megapixel version.
Meanwhile, the high-end options, the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, are set to switch from stainless steel to titanium frames that are more durable and lighter. "The titanium on the Pro phones has a brushed look and replaces the fingerprint-prone steel used since the iPhone X line," Gurman said.

But a new look isn't the only upgrade in store. The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will reportedly pack Apple's lastest-and-greatest A17 Bionic chip for a massive boost in terms of performance and especially battery life. The Pro phones will also ditch the ring/mute switch in favor of an Action Button , which users can program with handy shortcuts such as enabling Do Not Disturb or Low Power Mode and more. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is set to get the biggest camera upgrade of the bunch: an updated periscope-style telephoto system capable of up to 6x optical zoom.
All four iPhone 15 models are expected to finally make the switch from Apple's proprietary Lightning port to USB-C in accordance with EU regulations. As well as feature a U2 ultrawide-band semiconductor to enhance location capabilities for more accurate tracking in the Find My app. As for color options, Gurman said the regular models will come in pink, black, white, blue and yellow, while the Pro phones will come in gray, black, dark blue and white.
Apple Watch 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2
On the wearables front, Gurman says Apple has two announcements in store: the Apple Watch Series 9 — available in the current 41-millimeter and 45-millimeter sizes — and the second iteration of its more rugged Apple Watch Ultra , which sticks with the 49-millimeter size.
Aesthetically, these new Apple Watches aren't likely to appear very different from their predecessors. Though Apple is planning new materials and colors, including using more recycled metals and a black Ultra option.
The biggest upgrades are under the hood, as the watches are set to get their first new chip since 2020's Series 6. As with the iPhone 15, the Series 9 and new Apple Watch Ultra will pack a U2 ultra-wideband chip for enhanced Find My capabilities. Several sensor and internal component upgrades are also in the works, including a new version of Apple’s optical heart rate sensor.
AirPods with USB-C
Last but not least, we can expect to see the iPhone 15 line's USB-C charging capabilities make their way to AirPods as Apple shifts its Lightning-based accessories over to the new standard. At the top of that list are the AirPods Pro , though we could see its standard AirPods and AirPods Max upgraded to USB-C charging as early as next year.
Beyond switching out the charging port, the earbuds will get a software update that adds the ability to mute and unmute from the AirPods themselves, improved automatic device switching, and a new feature called Conversation Awareness that silences media automatically when it detects people speaking to the wearer. New health features like body-temperature sensing and a new hearing test system are also in the works, though Gurman says Apple's likely to release them later on.

What to expect from Apple’s ‘Scary Fast’ Mac event
Apple is playing halloween tricks with this surprise event that will likely include new macbooks and an imac — here’s what to expect..
By Umar Shakir and Wes Davis
It looks like some new Macs are on the way. Apple is holding an online-only launch event on October 30th, where it’s expected to introduce its next big chip updates and some Macs to go along with them. Apple is calling the pre-Halloween announcement the “Scary Fast” event, and its YouTube channel playfully invites viewers to “Treat yourself.”
Almost every Apple event invitation includes a themed Apple logo that hints at what to expect. This time, the company’s event website has an animated Apple logo that morphs into the Finder icon, all but confirming some new Macs are in the cards. Meanwhile, “scary fast” seems to hint at the possibility Apple will announce brand-new M3 processors, which could debut in some updated Macs — including a long-awaited iMac desktop refresh. Will it be faster than Qualcomm’s apparent M2-beating X Elite processors ? We may not have to wait long to find out.
- All the news from Apple’s ‘Scary Fast’ Mac event
When does the Apple event start?
The “Scary Fast” Apple event is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 30th, 2023, at 8PM ET / 5PM PT. The livestream is, uncharacteristically of Apple, happening in the evening instead of the morning like most of the company’s other product announcements.
How to watch Apple’s “Scary Fast” Mac event
Apple provides livestream access via its homepage and YouTube channel ; the YouTube stream is embedded above. You can also catch Apple event livestreams on Apple TV boxes inside the TV app under the Apple Event category and follow along with our live updates right here .
Let’s break down the speculation about what Apple has in store for us.
The debut of the M3
Apple finished rolling out its M2 chips earlier this year, so now it’s time to move onto the M3 lineup. On Monday, we’re expecting to see the first set of those chips, which are likely to offer bigger performance gains than the M2 generation.
The new M3 chips are reportedly being built on TSMC’s 3nm process , the same process that was used in the A17 Pro chips in the new iPhone 15 Pro. The smaller process should make the M3 chips faster and more efficient than the 5nm process used on the M2 line. Apple has reportedly locked down TSMC’s entire production of 3nm chips for roughly the next year , giving the company’s hardware an edge over competitors’.
Apple’s M-series chips have been lauded for being powerful, cool, and efficient, but they are suddenly facing some real competition. Qualcomm this week said its new Snapdragon X Elite will be 50 percent faster than Apple’s M2. That means it’s a good moment for Apple to debut something even faster.
Whatever computers Apple announces, it’s the M3 that will be the star of the show.
A new M3-powered iMac
The iMac hasn’t been updated since the M1 model appeared with a brand-new design in April 2021 . But rumors have popped up all year about updates to Apple’s all-in-one, including some discussion about a much larger form factor. We probably won’t see that larger 32-inch iMac until next year, but it sure sounds like we’re getting a new 24-incher.
The updated model is expected to feature a brand-new chip, too: Apple’s M3 processor. Bloomberg ’s Mark Gurman also said Apple had been testing M3 chips with eight-core CPUs and 10-core GPUs, which matches previous base-model M chips. TSMC has said the 3nm process could lead to up to a 15 percent speed boost with a 30 percent power savings.
The updated iMac is also reported to get some shuffled internals and a tweaked manufacturing process . But on the outside, the design is expected to be very similar or the same as before.
Faster M3 chips in faster MacBook Pros
Although they were updated earlier this year, Apple’s stock of 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops with M2 Pro and Max chips has been dwindling. This could point to an M3 refresh for the two larger MacBook Pro models before the month is out.
Apple will announce M3 Pro and M3 Max versions of the 14- and 16-inch laptops at Monday’s event, according to both Bloomberg and an early October DigiTimes report suggesting that the new MacBook Pro models would arrive before year’s end with more efficient Mini LED displays. Apple had reportedly been testing new MacBook Pro models using M3 Pro and M3 Max chips with 16-core CPUs, 40-core GPUs, and 48GB of memory. Those core counts are up from the current models, which max out at a 12-core CPU and 38-core GPU for the 16-inch Pro laptop and have no 48GB memory option. (Instead, they’re available with 32GB, 64GB, or 96GB memory options.)
The launch, just 11 months after the last MacBook Pros, practically makes this a mid-cycle update. But I doubt anyone is really complaining — unless you just bought one of the M2 models.
Okay, what else is coming?
Some of the shakier rumors include a possible 13-inch MacBook Pro or new MacBook Air models. Apple uses the same chips in the Mac Mini, too. So far, nobody seems to be predicting an update, though it wouldn’t be a huge surprise .
Over in Apple accessories world, it would be weird if a new iMac didn’t also come with a new USB-C Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad, right? So there’s a real chance we’ll see those. (Is it too much to hope Apple will move the charging port on the mouse?)
Besides that, there haven’t been strong indications of anything else coming this year. There were rumors of updated iPads — but since Apple just announced a new Pencil on its own, those probably aren’t coming till next year. All the other big rumors, like a 32-inch iMac, OLED MacBook Pro, or redesigned iPad Pro, are a year or more out. And the Vision Pro is still slated for early next year.

Apple Events 2024: Apple’s event plans
Apple doesn’t participate in big industry-wide events such as CES or E3. The most valuable company in the world holds its own events, thank you very much. Several times a year, Apple invites the press and industry professionals to Apple Park to hear all about its latest products and services. Apple calls these ‘events,’ and streams them live online to millions of watchers.
In 2023 there were three such events: WWDC in June, the Wonderlust iPhone event in September and Apple’s second fall event on October 30 (or October 31 if you weren’t in the U.S.). Similarly, in 2022 Apple held three events: a spring event on March 8, WWDC on June 6, and the iPhone 14 launch on September 7. In other years Apple has held four events though, and in 2024 has already held two events: one in May one a month later in June. Will Apple hold four events in 2024?
Read on to find out what events and new Apple product launches the company has in store for 2024.
When is Apple’s next event?
The next event is likely to be the iPhone launch event in September, that being the usual timing for the new iPhone models to launch.
Based on previous years, we expect the iPhone launch event to be held around September 10 or 11.
What time will the next Apple event start?
Apple keynotes usually start at 10 am PT. That translates to the following times in the countries where most of our readers live:
- U.S.: at 10 am (PST/PDT), 11 am (MST/MDT), noon (CST/CDT), 1 pm (EST/EDT)
- Canada: as above, and 2 pm (AST/ADT)
- U.K.: at 6 pm (GMT/BST)
- Europe: at 7pm (CET/CEST), 8 pm (EET/EEST)
- India: at 10.30 pm (IST)
- Australia: Next day at 1 am (AWST/AWDT), 2.30 am (ACST/ACDT), 3 am (AEST/AEDT)
- New Zealand: Next day at 5 am (NZST/NZDT)
Sometimes Apple holds events at different times, for example, the October 2023 event was held at midnight U.K. time.
How long does an Apple event last?
Apple keynotes usually last between one and two hours and feature CEO Tim Cook along with various other Apple executives. WWDC and the September event tend to be longer keynotes; the spring and late-fall events can be slightly shorter.
When does Apple usually hold events?
Apple holds three or four live or live-streamed events throughout the year. During these events, the company unveils its latest products and plans during a keynote address. They are usually held during similar times of the year:
- March/April: Spring event (in 2024 this was held in May)
- June: WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference)
- September: Fall event (aka iPhone and Apple Watch launch event)
- October/November: Late-fall event(s)
This event calendar is by no means set in stone, though, with the spring and October events being less regular. Some years, Apple doesn’t hold a spring event at all, as was the case in 2023.
The summer and September events are more predictable, with software coming at WWDC in June and iPhones and Apple Watches in September. The October event often sees Apple launch new Macs, but this is another one that changes from year to year.
What Apple events will take place in 2024?
Here are the events we expect to see in the remainder of 2024, and what could launch.
iPhone 16 launch event: September 2024
Apple always holds an event in September, and almost always uses this to announce a new iPhone and Apple Watch. (The only exception in recent memory was in 2020, as a result of Covid-related production issues. That year the iPhone was announced in October, but there was still a September event.)
What else could we see? A new iPad mini and 11th gen iPad . The AirPods could get an update (or two) and we might even see a HomePod with a screen .

iPhone 16 Pro
When is the iphone 16 event happening here’s what to expect.
It’s August, so we’re officially only a month away from iPhone event season. Apple has debuted its new iPhone every September for years. But when, exactly, is the iPhone 16 event happening? Here’s what to expect.
iPhone events in recent years
Over the past three years, here is when Apple has announced its latest iPhone:
- 2023 : Tuesday, September 12
- 2022 : Wednesday, September 7
- 2021 : Tuesday, September 14
Another important data point to keep in mind is the proximity of these dates to Labor Day. The US holiday moves around from year to year, but it’s always the first Monday in September.
In 2023, Apple’s iPhone events was 8 days after Labor Day. In 2022 it was only two days after. While in 2021 it was again 8 days later.
Based on this history, we can observe that Apple favors Tuesdays and Wednesdays as iPhone event days. Tuesdays are preferred, but it pushes the event to Wednesday when it happens the same week as Labor Day.
Essentially, the company wants a full business day to happen in a new week before the iPhone event.
So what will Apple do this year with the iPhone 16 event?
Date for Apple’s iPhone 16 event
2023 and 2021 present an identical pattern. Both iPhone events took place on the second Tuesday of the month, a full 8 days after Labor Day.
Following this pattern, Tuesday, September 10 is the most likely date for the iPhone 16 event.
2022 did deviate from the pattern of adjacent years, but here’s why September 10 is still the most likely option for 2024.
Labor Day is especially early this year. Landing on September 2, it’s almost the earliest it could possibly be.
That makes Wednesday, September 4 unlikely. Especially because in parts of the US, schools won’t have even kicked off the fall semester yet. In New York City, for example, the first day of school is Thursday, September 5.
Apple probably won’t hold its biggest event of the year when plenty of people are still transitioning out of vacation mode. It has happened before, but Apple then reverted to a later date the following year.
Because of Labor Day being so early, and some schools starting so late, an event the first week of September is probably out.
Which again supports Tuesday, September 10 as iPhone 16 event day.
When to expect the iPhone 16 to release
If Apple announces the iPhone 16 on September 10, it will likely go on sale for pre-orders a few days later on Friday, September 13.
The iPhone 16 lineup should then arrive in users’ hands as soon as Friday, September 20 .
The latest rumors indicate we’ll get some nice new color options with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16, plus a variety of camera upgrades , bigger screens for the Pro models, and more .

What to expect from Apple's 'Wonderlust' iPhone 15 event today
All iPhone 15 colors
Last updated 10 months ago
Apple confirmed that the first fall special event is taking place on September 12, sending invitations out to the media to watch a special Apple Event broadcasting from Apple Park.
It will be a presentation that will be broadcast online at 10:00 a.m.Pacific, 1:00 p.m. Eastern, via Apple's dedicated Events page and the Apple TV app.
The title of the event is "Wonderlust," a play on the term "Wanderlust." The customized Apple logo for the event is one that features a sculpture-like appearance, with blue and yellow swirling particles acting like sand on a dune.
As usual, neither the name nor the sandy Apple logo graphic provide much clue as to what exactly Apple's product launches will offer.

Apple is habitual when it comes to special events, with the reliable-as-clockwork tech giant set to hold its fall special event or events. It's a high-earning period for Apple, thanks to the upcoming holiday shopping period, so it saves the launch of its most lucrative and important products for this pre-sales period.
Here's what you can expect from Apple for its fall 2023 product introductions.
How many Fall 2023 Apple Events will there be?
For the fall Apple Event schedule, September is the main month for activity, as it has commonly been when the event takes place, or the first in a series of events.
There's no guarantee that Apple's September event will be the only one, as it does frequently expand its product launches into October. In the case of 2020 , it held events in September, October, and November, prompted by various issues caused by COVID.
The number of events Apple will ultimately hold depends on many different things, outside of a pandemic. This can include the intended release schedules for its various products, as well as any production issues that may get in the way and interfere with prearranged plans.
The quantity of products can also result in Apple splintering off a category or two into a second event, if only to prevent the first from being too cluttered for its own good.
Late August rumors have claimed that Apple will be holding an October event, intended to show off new Mac models.
Even with such rumors, there's no guarantee of an October event at all.
Over the last ten years, Apple had October events in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2021. October events didn't happen in 2015, 2017, 2019, nor in 2022.
There have been claims of the September event being pared down to a smaller range of products, but with a number of other items expected to ship in 2024, that could severely reduce the number of launches in October. Rather than an event, Apple could end up issuing press releases in October if the number of updated products is too few to do a full production.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
The standard iPhone model for 2023, the iPhone 15 and its supersized counterpart, the iPhone 15 Plus, will form the non-Pro tier of the iPhone range.
One size and weight leak indicates that the iPhone 15 will be very close to the iPhone 14 in all of its main dimensions, and weight. There are slight changes that are less than a millimeter, and a one-gram weight loss.
The rumors largely center around smaller upgrades rather than massive shifts, such as gaining the A16 used in the iPhone 14 Pro lineup.
For the display, there have been rumors of the inclusion of a slimmer bezel , which could give it more of an edge-to-edge appearance than in previous generations.
The displays will also allegedly inherit the Dynamic Island from the Pro models, bringing the welcomed replacement for the infamous notch to the standard models.
The cameras on the rear may also get a boost, in the form of a 48-megapixel Main sensor and lens combo. Just as with the iPhone 14 Pro's update, there will be the ability to take 12MP photos using pixel binning, but it won't have the use of the ProRAW format directly.
A low-key change will be the switch from Lightning to USB-C for the physical connector port, which rumors say has resulted in Apple requiring Made For iPhone certification for third-party accessories.
A late leak on September 8 detailed a lot about what to expect from the iPhones, and while it recapped most rumors, it also added in the introduction of a U2 ultrawideband chip, marking the first update since the 2019 U1's launch.
As for colors, rumors point to there being a pale green option for this year. On August 30 , images of leaked color options seem to indicate that the range may be fairly pale or mute in tone for 2023.
iPhone 15 Pro, plus iPhone 15 Pro Max and/or iPhone 15 Ultra
Continuing Apple's tendency to offer a quartet of iPhones, the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to be joined by the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Though there has been speculation that the naming convention may be changed.
Following on from the Apple Watch Ultra , Apple could end up renaming the iPhone 15 Pro Max as iPhone 15 Ultra.
On more concrete changes, the design could be made more rounded at the edges, with a titanium body instead of steel to save weight.
According to data leaked on September 9 , the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max could have a narrower display and a thicker body than its predecessors, while also being lighter. It is likely that this last point is due to the titanium switch.
Like the iPhone 15, the thin bezel theories have extended to the Pro range, though the display may still see another change. There have been claims Apple will slip the proximity sensor into the Dynamic Island area, instead of mounting it underneath the display.
Display technologies like ProMotion and Always-On are expected to stay a Pro-tier benefit .
Inside, the A17 is expected to offer considerable speed improvements to the range, in part thanks to a decision to adopt TSMC's 3-nanometer manufacturing process rather than a 4-nanometer version.
For the cameras, the 48-megapixel sensor reappears in rumors, but with the Pro Max or Ultra having a more pronounced camera bump . This would allow Apple to include a periscope lens arrangement, which can help improve the optical zoom capabilities of the camera.
On September 7 , a late leak said the Pro model cameras will consist of a 48MP Main Camera using the IMX-803 image sensor and an f/1.78 aperture, with a 12.7MP f/2.8 Telephoto and 13.4MP f/2.2 Ultra Wide counterpart. For the Pro Max, the addition of the Periscope lens will offer a shift in zoom from 3x to a 5x to 10x, though it has also been speculated to be 6x.
That camera could end up being a major selling point for the model for this year.
The mute switch may not be included in the Pro models anymore, with numerous rumors claiming that a new " Action Button " will be used instead. This multi-function button could be used in many configurable ways, including acting like a traditional camera shutter button.
The switch to USB-C, as well as battery capacity bumps, have also been rumored.
Current rumors have Apple offering three shades of gray and a dark blue color, with the invitation alleged to be hiding the colors in plain sight .
Along with a new color, leaks indicate Apple will be making changes to at least one of the iPhone accessories. Fake leather cases have been discovered on social media, supposedly made from multiple materials.
While the iPhone 15 Pro line will launch on time, there was the threat that production problems could've caused the release of the models to be delayed. However, on August 30 , a report reckoned that issues with "stacked SCIS, panels, batteries," and titanium frames were mostly resolved before the crunch production period.
A price hike is also anticipated, ranging from $100 extra for the Pro Max compared to normal, to a possible Pro line increase of $200 to $300 .
Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra
With the introduction of watchOS 10 , you'd expect that Apple would be keen to make changes to the Apple Watch Series 9 to reflect the milestone. However, rumors have repeatedly indicated that the changes won't be that major for the wearable device.
Indeed, the bulk of hardware updates relate to the Apple Watch X instead.
The Series 9 is expected to be offered in 41mm and 45mm size options.
What is anticipated to be a bigger change is the performance of the S9 chip. After relatively minimal chip improvements in previous models, the S9 is believed to offer a lot more performance by comparison.
An updated Apple Watch Ultra is also thought to be on the Apple Watch roster , but there's not much else to expect other than the chip upgrade at this stage.
A September 8 infodump proposed the other upgrades due include sensor and "internal component" changes, such as an upgraded heart rate sensor, complete with accuracy and efficiency improvements. The switch to the U2 Ultra Wide Band chip will apparently improve the capabilities of Find My too.
One late August rumor claims that Apple is using 3D printing for the chassis of a future Apple Watch, with testing carried out on a stainless steel Apple Watch Series 9, though not necessarily for production at the moment.
iPad and iPad Pro
Apple has introduced new iPad models in the fall for the last couple of years, and the last set it did was the October launches of the gen-10 iPad and the updated 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro .
It's entirely plausible that Apple could refresh the models in the fall, but exactly what Apple will introduce is a bit difficult to determine due to the relative lack of rumors. There's even a chance that the launches could be extremely minimal.
So far, rumors have offered an updated iPad mini 7 could land in the fall , though others say a 2024 launch is more likely. A revamp with OLED and a new Magic Keyboard has also been claimed in late August for an early 2024 release.
One late rumor from September 9 has Apple skipping iPads entirely during the September event. However, the same claim puts forward that the iPad Air could be updated via a press release in October, rather than a typical formal presentation.
For the iPad Pro , an update to M3 isn't entirely out of the bounds of believability, but since there are rumors of an OLED iPad Pro release in 2024, Apple may wait until then.
But wait, there's more
If Apple does end up splitting the product pile into two events and adds an October event to the schedule, its Mac changes are usually the ones to be bumped over to it. Rumors have already put forward this narrative, though it may not be an event and could end up being a press release debut for the updates.
There's even a chance that there won't be any Mac launches this fall at all.
If there are actual Mac launches for fall 2023, that effectively means the shift over from the M2 generation to the start of the M3 , and therefore entry-level Mac options. As usual for Apple, the M3 Pro, M3 Max, and M3 Ultra launches will be further down the road.
Apple tends to make the 13-inch MacBook Pro , the 13-inch MacBook Air , and the Mac mini the first models to ship in a chip generation, and they are still good candidates this time around. The 24-inch iMac is also awaiting an upgrade, missing out on the M2 generation, though there's less of a chance of an M3 15-inch MacBook Air since the M2 hasn't been around that long.
Then again, on September 8 , just days ahead of the "Wonderlust" event, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo declared that there may not be an M3 MacBook Air or MacBook Pro launch before the end of 2023. If Kuo is right, Apple may just skip Macs entirely for the event, in favor of a more full M3 launch in early 2024.
The other big name that could get bumped to a follow-up event is the Apple Vision Pro . Following the WWDC introduction and ahead of an early 2024 release , there's a good chance that some form of update will be offered by Apple.
The magnitude of the headset without any sellable units in time for the holidays means it could be given a lot of time to be talked about in an October event update.
Whether it gets talked about in September or bumped to October is up for debate, but Apple won't be missing an opportunity to talk about the future of its headset.

Is this officially announced? I don’t see it on Apple.com…
Something something nextgen carplay something.
Title and imagery don’t seem so mysterious. Perhaps referring to the hardware colorways and camera capabilities (I.e. looking into and recording video and photos of space, seeing the grains of sand in a desert, etc. the horsepower bump is likely to be huge so I imagine Apple is doing a lot of hidden ai tricks with the cameras.
On my birthday! Thank you Apple!

Apple October 2023 event – 3 things we could see at the surprise Mac reveal
What might be on the way, according to the rumors
We've got another Apple event to look forward to: with the tagline "scary fast" attached to it, the event is scheduled for October 30 at 5 PM PT, or 12am GMT / 11am AEDT on October 31. As usual, Apple isn't giving much away – but we can make some educated guesses about what's going to be unveiled.
Remember this is following the grand unveiling of the iPhone 15 series, the Apple Watch 9 , and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 on September 12. That was an in-person event with a live audience, whereas this October event will be live streamed over the web.
Considering we've already seen new phones and new smartwatches, and that new iPads aren't expected until March , it seems the stage is set for Macs to be front and center this time around – and Macs powered by new M3 chips .
Here's what we think might be arriving on Monday, October 30, based on previous launches and current rumors.
M3 MacBook Pros
According to one of the best Apple analysts in the business, Ming-Chi Kuo, MacBook Pros updated with brand new M3 chips will be the main focus of the October event. Considering Kuo's track record, we'd say new 13-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch models are likely.
What's more, the mention of an "M3 series" suggests that M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips could all be unveiled at this event. Kuo had previously said that these MacBook Pros would launch in 2024, but sluggish M2 MacBook Pro sales may have forced Apple's hand .
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman – another top-tier Apple source – has also weighed in to say that 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros running M3 Pro and M3 Max chips have been tested internally by Apple. Gurman says he is certain these new laptops will be launched next week, but that the designs will remain largely the same .

I believe M3 series MacBook Pro will be Oct 30th media event's focus. I previously predicted a launch this year is unlikely due to limited 4Q23 shipments (less than 400-500k units in total). If new MBPs launch in Nov-Dec, tight supply will last into 1Q24 unless demand weakens. pic.twitter.com/R6tVIYyQop October 24, 2023
M3 MacBook Air
We got a 13-inch M2 MacBook Air last year, and then a 15-inch version earlier in 2023, which makes us think that a new M3 MacBook Air isn't due quite yet. Apple could always surprise us, but this is the laptop that Apple has refreshed most recently.
The latest rumor we heard around an M3 MacBook Air was that both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are now in testing and being readied for production, but that a launch won't happen until the first half of 2024 at the earliest.
We're arguably due a new iMac, considering the 24-inch model was last updated in 2021 and the 27-inch model last got a refresh back in 2020 , but there are conflicting rumors about whether or not we're going to see an updated iMac of any size at this October event.
Only last week we were hearing from well-placed sources that the 24-inch M3 iMac wouldn't be showing up until 2024, with a larger 32-inch version of the all-in-one – featuring mini-LED display technology, on the schedule for 2025.
Hang on just a moment though, because more recent rumors suggest that this 24-inch model will indeed appear this month after all.
To further confuse matters, this update could well stick with the current M2 chip rather than taking on fresh silicon.
There's clearly a lot of confusion about what exactly Apple is unveiling at this October event, with leaks and rumors building up over the months . We haven't yet mentioned the Mac mini, though that computer isn't expected to be updated until 2024 .
However, considering the Apple logo turns into the macOS Finder logo on the October event page , it seems a safe bet than new Apple Macs of some description are indeed in the pipeline and ready to be shown off to the world.
We will of course be covering the event for you live, and as it's being streamed online you can watch along with us as all the announcements are made. In the meantime, expect a few more leaks and rumors in the coming days.

Apple event September 2023: When and how to watch, what to expect and more
Set for september 2023, the apple event is poised to debut an array of new products from the company including the greatly awaited iphone 15 lineup.
As the calendar turns towards September, tech enthusiasts and Apple aficionados around the world are gearing up for one of the most highly anticipated events of the year: Apple’s September event. Scheduled to take place in September 2023, this event promises to unveil a range of exciting new Apple products including the highly anticipated iPhone 15 line.
When is the Apple event happening?
The event date for Apple’s upcoming event has not been disclosed yet, but we anticipate it to occur in early September. The dates that appear most probable are September 12 or 13, 2023.
With no official announcement from Apple yet, we can’t say for sure. Nevertheless, based on Apple’s history of hosting this keynote event it would most likely take place on the initial and second weeks of the month.
What time will the Apple event start?
The event is set to start at 10:00AM in California and is expected to last around an hour. Here in the region, the event will begin at the following times:
- UAE: 9:00PM
- Saudi Arabia: 8:00PM
- Europe: 7:00PM (CEST)
- India: 10:30PM
Is the Apple event live?
Probably not. Apple has not hosted a fully live event since 2019. Instead, it opts to present a mix of live presentations and pre-recorded videos. Frequently, there is also a limited hands-on section to exhibit the new products for those attending the keynote at Apple Park in California.
What to expect from the Apple event
As with every year, Apple’s September event will see the launch of the new iPhone lineup. The new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely take centre stage. Following closely in prominence will be the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. Additionally, other products are also going to be announced including the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. We may also witness the introduction of a fresh iPad mini, along with the much-discussed AirPods Lite. Furthermore, the potential debut of new Apple Earpods featuring USB-C connectors to replace the current Lightning iterations adds to the intrigue.
During the iPhone event, it’s highly likely that Apple will disclose the launch date for the upcoming iOS 17 and watchOS 10 operating systems. This unveiling is projected to occur shortly after the event concludes, possibly within a few days. Additionally, Apple is expected to shed light on the availability timeline for the upcoming updates to the tvOS and HomePod software.

Next Apple Events for 2023
In this article you will find the following:
Even before the previous event has finished, Apple enthusiasts eagerly await the next Apple keynote. At these events, CEO Tim Cook and numerous other important figures within the company share what the Silicon Valley giant is working on.
For example, in the summer of 2022, Apple used its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) to announce numerous new products and software. We learned more about iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, in addition to what we could expect from the M2 chip that is becoming more commonplace in its Macs.
2023 will surely be another big year for Apple and its fans, but when’s the next Apple announcement? What can we expect the company to release? Let’s find out.
- When is the next Apple event?
At the time of writing in February 2023, the next Apple event hadn’t yet been announced. However, rumors in the tech space suggest that you’ll get to tune into a spring event sometime in March.
If we look at previous years, March is a good time to expect an Apple presentation. The 2022 spring event occurred on March 8th, and the 2020 edition commenced on March 18th. Meanwhile, the 2019 version was held in the same month. However, you might need to wait a little longer; for example, the 2021 Apple event was held on April 20th.
In essence, Apple’s keynotes build up the new products and software that the company usually releases in the fall. The spring event usually involves announcing new products—such as the next MacBook and iPhone.
Considering that Apple has already revealed its 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro, along with the M2 Mac mini and HomePod, you can expect more of an explanation of how these products will work. You can already buy the M2 MacBook Pro, but before purchasing, consider reading how to use MacBook .
- Apple spring event 2023
Apple hasn’t yet announced a date for its 2023 spring event, but we do know a little more about the products we can expect to become available later this year. Below, I’ve listed what you’ll probably hear more about at 2023’s first Apple keynote:
14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro
M2 mac mini, mac pro with m2 ultra chip, 27-inch external display.
Now let’s dig deeper into each of these one by one.
On January 24th, Apple released the latest 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. I think we’ll learn more about what you can do with these laptops as a creative; Apple mentioned in a press release that the “MacBook Pro is capable of transforming pro workflows across a wide range of disciplines.”
Below are some features that Apple might cover in more detail:
- Processing speeds for different apps, such as Adobe Photoshop
- The longest battery life ever on a MacBook
- The improved Wi-Fi connectivity options
Apple released the M2 Mac mini on January 24th, and I believe Apple will talk specifically about how the product might help you become more productive. Expect similar topics to the following to be discussed:
- Gameplay speeds
- Rendering speeds with Final Cut Pro
- How the M2 Mac mini works with the new MacBook range
Apple also unveiled the Mac Pro with an M2 Ultra Chip in January. At the next Apple event, I think the company will discuss the following:
- Why you won’t get user-upgradable RAM
- A release date
- How the new Mac Pro compares to the 2019 version
Apple hasn’t yet announced when it’ll launch the 27-inch external monitor. Rumors originally suggested Q1 2023, but that might not be the case. The spring event is a good opportunity for Apple to provide an update, and I think they’ll do that at the very least.
If the company decides to announce more information about the product, expect to hear how it’ll work with the Mac mini and Pro.
Apple released the newest HomePod in February 2023. It marks the return of the larger HomePod, which the company originally discontinued in 2021. At the spring event, we might see Apple discuss how it fits in the broader ecosystem—such as when using Apple TV.
- Apple digital WWDC event 2023
The WWDC, which is usually in June, often acts as an Apple new launch event for software. In previous years, CEO Cook has revealed what we’ll see in the upcoming iOS, iPadOS, and macOS updates. In recent times, we’ve also learned about new products and innovations. Below are two products you may hear more about at the 2023 WWDC:
AR/VR Headset
15.5-inch macbook air.
Read on to hear the details.
In 2023, we could finally see the Apple AR/VR Headset come to life. At the very least, I’d say that we’ll hear an update on when (and if) we can expect a launch.
Some rumors have suggested that we’ll learn more about the headset at the 2023 WWDC. If we do, Apple will likely talk about:
- How much the headset costs
- How the headset works with Apple’s other products and apps
In 2022, Apple announced the latest MacBook Air at the WWDC—and I think it’ll do the same this year. If that happens, you’ll probably hear about:
- When the MacBook is out
- How much the MacBook will cost
- September event Apple 2023
Historically, the September Apple event is when we find out the release dates for the next version of iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. And for iPhone fans, this keynote is when you hear about the newest devices—plus their release dates.
Here’s what I expect Apple to talk about during this year’s fall event:
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro
Apple watch series 9.
Find out more below.
Rumors have suggested that the iPhone 15 will feature a USB-C port. And considering that the iPhone 14 didn’t look too different from its predecessor, we might see a different look for the next batch of Apple’s flagship smartphones.
Instead of the Pro Max, some have suggested that the iPhone 15 Ultra will come to the market. We’ll probably get clarification on these, along with:
- Hearing how much the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro costs
- Extra special features that these phones will have
- The camera and filming quality on the latest iPhones
If you plan to get the latest iPhone, you can reset Apple ID password if you’ve forgotten it on your old device.
Apple typically announces the new Apple Watch in September. At this year’s event, I believe we’ll learn about:
- The Apple Watch Series 9’s design
- How much the Apple Watch shall cost
- What to expect on the new version of watchOS
- Apple events summary
Every Apple presentation is eagerly awaited, and each has several exciting announcements. You might want to watch the spring event to learn more about the latest MacBook Pro models, and the September version is where you’ll find out about the new iPhones.
You can follow each Apple event online, and it’s worth keeping an eye out for the official dates when they’re announced. In the meantime, connect with fellow Apple fans online to discuss your further product expectations and check your intuition.

What You Need To Know Ahead of Apple's Earnings Report
Samsul Said / Bloomberg / Getty Images
UPDATE—Aug. 1, 2024: This article has been updated to reflect more recent analyst estimates and share price information, as well as news related to Apple Intelligence.
Key Takeaways
- Apple will report third-quarter earnings after the bell on Thursday, Aug. 1.
- Analysts expect revenue and earnings to grow from the year-ago period.
- Investors will likely be watching for signs that iPhone sales are stabilizing in China.
- The iPhone maker could also provide updates related to artificial intelligence.
Apple ( AAPL ) is set to report fiscal third-quarter earnings after the bell on Thursday, Aug. 1, with investors likely to be watching for sales results in the China region and updates related to artificial intelligence (AI) .
The iPhone maker is expected to report revenue of $84.44 billion, according to estimates compiled by Visible Alpha, which would represent about 3% growth from the year-ago period. Net income is projected to be $20.66 billion or $1.35 per share, an increase from the third quarter of 2023.
Analyst Estimates for Q3 2024 | Q2 2024 | Q3 2023 | |
Revenue | $84.44 billion | $90.75 billion | $81.8 billion |
Diluted Earnings Per Share | $1.35 | $1.53 | $1.26 |
Net Income | $20.66 billion | $23.64 billion | $19.88 billion |
Key Metric: iPhone Sales in China
Worries surrounding slowing sales in China have weighed on Apple's stock, but analysts said the third quarter could be the end of the decline, ahead of recovery.
CFRA analysts said they believe "the company’s fate is turning around in the region," based on increased iPhone shipments in China driven by pricing discounts .
Analysts project Apple will report a 2.6% decline in sales in the region for the third quarter, according to consensus estimates compiled by Visible Alpha. CFRA expects the China iPhone sales figure will represent a revenue trough ahead of the anticipated new iPhone 16.
Business Spotlight: iPhone 16 Anticipation Builds
Apple is expected to release its iPhone 16 in September, with artificial intelligence features reportedly set to follow in October , after Apple recently unveiled iOS 18 with Apple Intelligence and an AI partnership with OpenAI.
The iPhone maker could be on track to reach a $4 trillion market capitalization, Wedbush analysts said , with a new iPhone upgrade cycle in the near future. The company could discuss its ongoing AI initiatives during the earnings call, offering investors greater clarity on how the emerging tech could affect Apple.
Apple shares have gained about 14% so far this year, at $219.58 as of 11:45 a.m. ET Thursday ahead of the company's earnings after the bell.

What to Expect From the 'Scary Fast' October 30 Apple Event
Apple earlier this week surprised us with an unexpected October event, and curiously, it is set to take place on Monday, October 30 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Apple has never hosted a nighttime event before, so Monday should be quite interesting.
play Subscribe to the MacRumors YouTube channel for more videos. The "Scary Fast" event will be focused on the Mac, which has been confirmed by Apple's artwork for the event. On Apple's website, there is an Apple logo that morphs into the Mac Finder icon, so it's Macs that we're going to see.
Rumors have been mixed about what we can expect at the event, but it's sounding like we'll get the entire M3 chip lineup. We've outlined what we've heard is coming, but we might also get some unexpected announcements.
14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models were updated with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips in January 2023, so it is early for an update, but it is not unheard of for Apple to refresh a Mac twice in a single year.
The base M3 Pro chip will have a 12-core CPU and 18-core GPU, with upgrades available for a 14-core CPU and 20-core GPU. The base M3 Max chip will have a 16-core GPU and a 32-core GPU, with an option to upgrade to a 40-core GPU.
Upgrading from M2 Pro/M2 Max to M3 Pro and M3 Max should bring notable performance improvements, especially when it comes to the GPU and the ability for the MacBook Pro to run high-end games.
There was a recent rumor from DigiTimes suggesting that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will get more power-efficient miniLED displays, so there is a chance that we'll also see tweaks to display performance.
If we get the M3 upgrade and a new miniLED display, the MacBook Pro models could have significant improvements to their battery life. Aside from the new chips and the possible new display, we are not expecting any other design changes for the MacBook Pro models.
Apple hasn't refreshed the 24-inch iMac since 2021, and it's still using the M1 chip. The iMac is expected to get an update at Apple's event, and the new version will use the M3 chip, the same chip that will be in the 13-inch MacBook Pro.
There won't be notable design changes to the display of the iMac, but Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman believes that Apple will tweak the stand. Some of the internal components in the iMac will be relocated and redesigned, with a new manufacturing process used to attach the stand.
An upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E is likely, as is Bluetooth 5.3. These are technologies that have been introduced in other Macs over the last year. The M3 iMac is reportedly being tested in orange, blue, pink, and silver finishes, so we should see some of the same color options that were available with the M1 iMac.
USB-C Accessories
Apple is expected to eliminate the Lightning port in several of its Mac accessories, including the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard. Instead of Lightning, these devices will adopt a USB-C port as part of Apple's transition to USB-C across its entire product lineup.
Other Possibilities
Aside from the iMac and refreshed 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, there are no other rumors that suggest other devices are getting updated.
Initial information indicated that the 13-inch MacBook Pro could see a refresh with an M3 chip, but Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman has since confirmed the 13-inch MacBook Pro will be refreshed at a later date.
Other Macs, including the MacBook Air , Mac mini , Mac Pro , and Mac Studio won't be updated until 2024, and the same goes for the iPads and AirPods. We are not expecting new iPads or new versions of the AirPods until next year.
How to Watch
Apple's "Scary Fast" event begins at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, October 30. Apple is streaming the event on its Events website that can be viewed on any web browser, plus there will be a livestream on YouTube .
For those with access to the Apple TV app on the Apple TV set-top box or a smart TV, Apple will also offer an event livestream option for your TV.
For those unable to watch, MacRumors will be providing full event coverage on MacRumors.com and the MacRumorsLive Twitter account .

What to expect? People who spent a ton on a MBP in January to be disappointed? I would be no matter the explanation. I’ll still watch even though I’m not in the market for any more Macs this year.
The disappointment is the lack of innovation at Apple. Look at all the other laptop manufacturers. They are releasing new form factors, new features, new visual looks & honestly have started to close the gap on quality/luxury that Apple offered.

It ended up filling my heart with exactly the opposite of what led me to become a foster parent. My hope in sharing all of this with you today is that you will embrace the 4 tips I share with you and that it will help you to stay in a place of Grace, acceptance and Gods love through your foster care and adoption journey. Stocks just finished their most volatile day since 2022.
Joseph Adinolfi
U.S. stocks saw huge intraday swings on Thursday. According to one metric, it was the market's most volatile day since November 2022.
The S&P 500 was up 0.8% ahead of a key reading on U.S. manufacturing activity. After the report added to the picture of economic weakness that appeared to spook investors, stocks began a relentless decline that saw the large-cap index fall as much as 2% at the day's lows.
This 2.8 percentage-point spread between the session high and session low was the widest since Nov. 30, 2022. On that day, investors bid up stocks after Fed Chair Jerome Powell affirmed that the central bank would slow the pace of its aggressive interest-rate hikes during a speech at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
The S&P 500 ultimately finished down 75.62 points, or 1.4%, at 5,446.68 as stocks pared their losses during the final hour of trading.

Dow falls nearly 500 points as recession fears reemerge
A late-day bounce off of session lows managed to save the Dow from its worst daily drop since early 2023.
But the blue-chip gauge still tallied a nearly 500-point drop on Thursday as markets were buffeted by weak economic data and jitters ahead of two highly anticipated earnings reports due after the bell.
The Dow finished down 494.82 points, or 1.2%, at 40,347.97, according to FactSet data.
Meanwhile, the S&P 500 fell 75.62 points, or 1.4% to 5,446.68 after dropping 2% at its lows earlier in the session. The Nasdaq Composite was off by 405.25 points, or 2.3%, at 17,194.15, after falling 3% earlier.
Gold scores another record high, with room to move even higher
Myra P. Saefong
Gold prices have rallied to fresh record highs three times in less than three weeks, topping $2,500 an ounce at their peak, with the potential to rise even further as the precious metal’s distinction as a “protective asset” continues to take hold.
Gold for December delivery climbed $7.80, or 0.3%, to settle at $2,480.80 an ounce on Comex Thursday. It traded as high as $2,506.60 during the session to touch a new record intraday high.
“There can be no question that geopolitical uncertainties surrounding the conflicts in Europe and the Middle East , coupled with continuing belligerence from China toward Taiwan and an increasingly ugly U.S. presidential election , still encourage investors to seek to increase exposure to protective assets such as gold,” George Milling-Stanley, chief gold strategist at State Street Global Advisors, told MarketWatch Thursday.
If the economic and political environment becomes “more favorable for gold — for example, with growing weakness in the dollar because of rate cuts — a trading range for the metal of between $2,500 and $2,700 could be possible,” said Milling-Stanley.

2-year Treasury yield drops by most in a single session all year on economic jitters
Vivien Lou Chen
Rising concerns about the strength of the U.S. economy on Thursday sent the policy-sensitive 2-year Treasury yield down by the most in a single session all year.
The 2-year yield dropped 17.4 basis points to 4.163%, the lowest closing level since Jan. 12. Thursday's drop was the biggest for a single session since Dec. 13 of last year.

Treasury yields finished at their lowest levels in months on Thursday after a weak reading from the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index gave rise to growth scares in the market.
'Markets are approaching panic mode'
José Torres, senior economist at Interactive Brokers, captured Thursday's mood across markets in his latest commentary.
"Markets are approaching panic mode as many economic factors converge, supporting a drift away from risk assets. Investors are dropping stocks like rocks and opting for Treasurys and Swiss francs," Torres said.
Defensive assets and currencies like Treasurys and the Swiss franc were rallying on Thursday as the Dow headed for its worst day of 2024.
Strong earnings from Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. could provide stocks with some short-term relief in overnight trading, with gains potentially extending into Friday if the July jobs report is well-received, Torres said. But expect more losses to follow as the third quarter is "all about the bears taking back some of the gains from the bulls."

Arms Index showing now signs of panic selling, and maybe even some dip buying
Tomi Kilgore
Despite the stock market's sharp selloff, the NYSE and Nasdaq Arms Indexes aren't showing signs of panic-selling behavior.
The Arms, which is a volume-weighted breadth measure, usually rises above 1.000 as the market falls, as volume in declining stocks increases relative to volume in advancing stocks. Many market watchers tend to view a rise above 2.000 as an indication of panic-like selling.
The S&P 500 was down 1.8% in recent trading and the Nasdaq Composite was shedding 2.8%.
The NYSE Arms was up to 1.607, as the number of declining stocks outpaced advancers by a 2.39-to-1 margin, and down volume beat up volume by a 3.85-to-1 margin.
But the Nasdaq Arms was down to 0.857, amid a decliner-versus-advancer ratio of 3.81-to-1 1but a down volume-versus-up volume ratio of less than that, at 3.26-to-1.
The last time the NYSE Arms closed above 2.000 was April 12 at 2.25 when the S&P 500 fell 1.5%, while the last time the Nasdaq Arms closed above 2.000 was Aug. 24, 2023 at 2.01, when the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.9%.
These stocks are dragging down the Dow during worst day of 2024
The Dow is on track for its worst day of 2024 with a little over an hour left of trading on Thursday.
These companies were adding the most to its decline.
Caterpillar Inc. Shares of the heavy-equipment manufacturer were down $17.88, or 5.2%, at $328. It contributed nearly 120 points to the Dow's losses.
Home Depot Inc. Shares of the purveyor of home-improvement products were down $13.82, or 3.8%, at $354.34, contributing nearly 90 points to the Dow's decline.
Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Shares of the investment-banking giant were down $13.17, or 2.6%, at $495.86, contributing nearly 90 points to the Dow's decline.
Boeing Co. Boeing shares were down $13.06, or 6.9%, at $177.55. They were contributing just over 85 points to the Dow's decline.
Salesforce Inc. Shares of the cloud-based software provider were down $8.46, or 3.3%, at $250.31, subtracting 55 points from the average.
Plenty of other stocks contributed to the average's drop. Shortly before 3 p.m. Eastern Time, only eight of the blue-chip gauge's 30 member stocks were trading in the green. Other notable decliners included Chevron Corp. , American Express Co. and JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Micron's stock could log its worst daily performance in over four years
The selloff in semiconductor names Thursday could mean the worst daily decline for Micron shares since the start of the pandemic.
Micron's stock was down 8.7% in afternoon trading, tracking toward its largest one-day percentage drop since it fell 19.8% on March 16, 2020, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
Western Digital, which also plays into the memory market, reported earnings late Wednesday that indicated weakness in some consumer areas. "Weaker trends in consumer and channel markets are impacting bit demand, which we think is the reason behind the softer [fiscal first-quarter] outlook," Raymond James analyst Srini Pajjuri wrote.
Shares of Western Digital were off 12.9% toward the end of Thursday's session.

Why analysts say to stay positive as Arm shares sink
Analysts still see reason to be upbeat about Arm’s potential, despite a miss on royalty revenue that’s sending the chip designer’s stock down about 17% in Thursday trading.
“Assuming Arm will be part of whoever comes out on top of AI seems like less of a risk than almost anything else, other than maybe Nvidia,” Guggenheim analyst John DiFucci wrote.
He noted that the company’s licensing business saw “robust” growth, and licenses now tend to lead to royalties down the line. “We think it’s safe to say that a customer wouldn’t purchase licenses without a plan to convert them into products for sale,” DiFucci wrote.
BofA’s Vivek Arya took a similar long-term view, saying that if you block out the “quarterly noise,” Arm’s “big picture [is] on track.”
He wrote that “the surge in licensing revenues, growing double digits annually is a strong leading indicator of Arm tech adoption and eventual conversion to recurring royalty revenues.”
As Arm’s stock slides, these analysts say to keep the faith
One analyst says that “assuming Arm will be part of whoever comes out on top of AI seems like less of a risk than almost anything else.”
